Pos: Basically, we had did “Ego Tripping” the video [in 1993]. Pac had reached out to us because he thought we were dissing him because he thought that the video kind of mirrored “I Get Around”. He thought we were showing him in the mansion but then we were saying it wasn’t his mansion. Pac reached out like “yo, I love y’all. I love y’all so why are ya’ll dissing me?”. And I reached back to him like “dawg, we’re definitely not dissing you. We’re being clowns making fun of how certain people take the shit a little too serious” and he was like “aight, cool” [when] he reached back. But then I guess around the time when we put Stakes Is High out, and then all that nonsense happened between me and Treach [from Naughty By Nature] and all that other shit, Pac and Treach were tight. And the only reason I know the background behind this is because, maybe two years ago, I ran into Pac’s sister and she let us know that “yo, he loved y’all. He was just hurt when he thought maybe y’all dissed him”. And then how, with Stakes Is High, we came out doing what we was doing, he felt like, with his boys, like “yo, this is what I need to say”. But [Pac’s sister] was like “I want y’all to know, he loved y’all”. And I feel that. I feel like a lot of times [for example] when Shan and KRS-One beef, I don’t think people really hate each other. That’s definitely how it was for us. We loved Pac. We’ve loved so many groups. We’ve never tried to be a part of anything negative.
Ego Tripping and High Steaks lead to Pac's infamous "Fuckin clowns, watchin clips of I Get Around" on the Richie Rich Seasoned Veteran album and obviously the harder disses on he recently leaked "Watch YA Mouth"
found this at tupacnation....very interesting.

u serious?

15 years too late. Who cares now? His "beef" with de la soul is as interesting as his beef with da brat. I'd rather hear about his drama with tut, henchman, dexter isaac, and whoever else was involved in his shootings.

I never knew what that beef was about
and I didn't know that line from the Richie Rich track was aimed at them
btw, he also dissed them on "Against All Odds"
-
Nice, very interesting, to a lot of people this will not be interesting because they cant make anything negative about it. these punk kids hate when some shit flips positive and in Pac's favor.
i was a fan of DLS and its good to read they're side of the situation. i never knew Pac dissed them. 8)

It's pretty hard to diss De La Soul because they're not even that kind of group that relies on a tough-guy image, it's just all about the music and them having classic albums with crazy production and everything

very true but after seeing that video I can certainly understand why Pac felt he was being made fun of

It wasn't anything to do with 2Pac specifically as a particular person if you know all the East coast stuff... De La and Tribe and Brand Nubian and Jungle Bros and X-Clan and all them dudes are all about being down to earth and not having flashy cars and houses and jewels and everything, they all have tons of songs which preach the same message of positivity and not living for money, etc. It wasn't like it was a one-off shot at 2Pac.
Pac was part of that crowd who was in a way glamorizing the high life, but De La weren't plotting like, "let's diss 2Pac," they were just against all the materialistic hip-hop coming out, making it known that when you see an expensive house or car in a rapper's video it's often not true to life, it's some rented stuff to give them that image.
Pac just happened to have a video out with a mansion in it around the same time. But yo, Rakim had that video at a mansion for 'Sweat The Technique', a year or so before, so De La must have been dissing him too?
Nah, because it wasn't no one specific, just their general ideology.
-
De La are definitely those guys I respect for always dealing with things the grown way.
However, I get a sense that they will break your fucking face if someone was to step to them the wrong way.

That's right. Exactly like what The Roots did with their video for 'What They Do'.

i get what u sayin homie & i actually somewhat agree but back then they were younger & were letting people get in their ears about shyt so it did looked like a hidden diss to pac..they didnt even deny it or replied to pac so it's all good...its too late anyways pac is dead & De La don't matter anymore anyways, at least they let pac sister know wassup & vice versa :D

My source just comes from hardcore fans who are in the industry and know the guys personally.
Same goes with Tribe and the rest of the Native Tongues movement.

How about you dont respond to my post if you cant answer it and I dont care about Hip hop trivia...it is just entertainment....I dont plan on studying every single obscure singing groups history....anyway I heard the diss in watch ya mouth....he is saying the group is wack....wow...even more incentive for me to go and stduy them...the most famous artist around thinks they are wack
-
I dont plan on studying every single obscure singing groups history....
LOL, they are one of the most important and influential hip-hop groups ever, with like 3-4 classic albums
It's like a rock fan not knowing who the Rolling Stones are

yeah i think i heard this too...as for the ego trip video...they used to always speak out against the mainstream 'bling, flashy rappers', so it wasn't a specific diss, but more a blanket statement on that style, they've always made statements on the current state of hiphop at whatever particular time (some say they dissed the wu back on the stakes is high album too "the only Italians you know are icy's")...so its no different than any other 'conscious rapper dissing whatever is in the mainstream, which happen all the time

Pac states that since their hit "Me, Myself and I", they've been garbage... 2Pac also showed them a bit of love by mentioning them in "Old School" about them putting pot holes in the game.
De La Soul are that type of group from New York doing tame, and positive rap, like "A Tribe Called Quest", Talib Kweli etc. They were big in 1989/1990, and brought out Potholes in My Lawn, Me Myself and I. Youtube some of the singles from their 3 feet High & Rising, you'll more than likely notice some of their work

Smackdog, I'm sorry but you've lost all credibility on this forum when it comes to speaking on hip-hop. This explains a lot, as you've come off as an ignorant, small minded peon in many of your posts - so it all makes sense now.
De La Soul is a forefather in hip-hop and anyone who is even a casual hip hop fan should at least know "Me, Myself and I."
This has nothing to do with "reading magazines," some things are just common knowledge.
You shouldn't be ashamed - I'm sure there's plenty of wiggers on this forum who have no idea who De La Soul is. I wouldn't be surprised if some of you don't know who Eric B and Rakim, Keith Murray, Erick Sermon or Big Daddy Kane are.
It's like - don't talk politics with someone if you don't know who Ronald Reagan is (come to think of it, I wouldn't be surprised if Smackdog doesn't know who Reagan is).
