After a first listen... its a good album. Not soundin' like i was think bout' but i like it! i know it will grow in me. Stand out tracks for me are (at the moment): Intro, Questions, All That I Want, I'm Drunk, I'm The Man & Scrape
i will review it later cauze its 3.30am here & i'm little high & tired.
I still will buy it!! Show some support to Kurupt one of the best ever.
-
"Questions" is a good song like i expected. I'll post a little review later when i've been bumpin' this for a while.

just bumped the Intro, real smooth sound; great start to an album.
it was compared to "Press Play", but personally, i don't hear it AT ALL lol.
-
Not a big fan of the album. It sounds like a lot of tracks were replaced because it just isnt sequenced right. A bunch of it just sounds like some bullshitting around in the studio ie: "I'm Drunk." which could have been alot better with another verse and shorter hook intro. "In Gotti We Trust" would have made a much better intro track for the album and the sound should have followed off of it too. The actual intro track is pretty dope to me, probably my favorite on the album. If the album was more consistent with a sound like "Yessir," "Intro," "In Gotti We Trust," and "Street Lights," it would have been more appealing. This would have been much better in EP format, and a LP format if it were put together/executive produced better.
And before Kurupt decides to read this and call me a hater, I would have no problems telling him directly that I personally dont like it, and would be willing help him create records that might be more appealing to a larger audience.
-
I haven't finished listening yet, but Questions is crazy hard.
Too bad I heard so many joints on this already.
-
I'm digging this album, and I think Kurupt reads everything we say - hence the song "Questions". LOL.
-
i'm the man has one of the dopest beats i've ever heard! :o shit is too sick. the intro and in gotti we trust are also really dope. the rest range from good to average.
overall a pretty good record. looks like i'll be buying this one! 8)
-
just listened to it once on my computer. Pretty cool...best I have heard from kurupt in awhile. I never really heard any of the songs beforehand other than bounce rock skate, and I heard I'm burnt a couple times from the 420 mixtape
-
this is fucking ill.
Streetlights should have been longer & that shit could of been absurdly classic. ;D 8)
-
I'm sorry but this ishh is fire......you demand it u got it..now lets support it. The new version of bounce rock skate is something serious
-

Quik came through correct.
& Kurupt just WENT OFF at the end. :o
-
1. Intro - 4/5 - dope opener
2. I'm Burnt - 4/5 - loved it since it premiered..Problem is sick for club records
3. Questions - 4/5 - love the concept
4. In Gotti We Trust - 5/5 - 2nd favorite song on here. That X hook is something serious.
5. Face Down - 3.25/5 - Alright
6. Yessir - 4/5 - pretty good
7. All That I Want - 3/5 - not feeling it too much
8. I'm Drunk - 3.25/5 - Heard this style a lot from the camp over the years..it doesn't really catch me; it's ok
9. Scrape - 1/5 - This is terrible.
10. Riot in the Club - 2/5 - average lil jon club music
11. I'm the Man - 4/5 - back on the right track
12. I'm Burnt Remix - 4/5 - solid remix
13. Streetlights - 5/5 - Best song on here. Beat is unreal, Tone KILLED the hook and Kurupt was sick.
14. Bounce ,Rock, Skate Kurupt Mix - 4/5 - Always loved this joint.
1. Streetlights
2. In Gotti We Trust
3. Intro
4. Questions
5. I'm the man
6. Yessir
7. I'm Bunt
8. I'm Burnt Remix
9. Bounce,Rock,Skate Remix
9 good joints outta 14, the first 4 will get A LOT of burn.
decent album, probably Kurupt's best since "streetz iz a mutha"
-
only feeling the intro. the rest sucks. sorry!
-
I don't understand the sense of this album... "Yessir" and "Bounce Rock Skate" are 5/5 to me but they're hella old, a nice intro and nothing else.
The market has changed, Kurupt not... no disrespect, but this ain't gonna sell not even 5K.
-
Just woke up. Gonna make breakfast while bumpin the shit outta this. Gonna be an early Saturday for my neibours ;D
-
I WANNA HEAR THIS ALBUM!!!!
i ordered it off amazon but probaly wont get it til next week in the mail. im gettin impatient
-
Decent album overall , 5-6 standout tracks , the rest is pretty much forgettable , wasn't too much impressed with T.Martin production and Kurupt needs to get rid of that whispered flow he's using on some tracks
-
Good to hear TRi-Star
-
Kurupt is pronouncing the "S" really funny on the Intro.
-
Great album, is Virginia Slim related to Kurupt? She was the chick that was screamin on Makavelis Me & My Girlfriend and and was most active in Tha Row days
-
Album has a contemporary sound. Not very funky in terms of being rooted in traditional Westcoast influences (synth melodies laid on top of thick baselines). Instead, Terrace opts for a more modern club sound with keyboard bips, bops and tones and some choral overlays with classical instrumentation (mentioned later). Personally, I go for more propulsive bass rhythms and groovy melodies and those kinds of arrangements that we love the Westcoast for. Overall, the album has a cohesion that is very important, and I'm grateful for that. However, it's not really my preference. Fred Wreck's work with Kurupt was more the traditional Westcoast sound that I prefer. The closest this album comes to a traditional Westcoast arrangement is I'm Drunk. Not hating on this album -- just saying upon analysis this isn't my cup of tea. However, I admit my taste is very outdated these days. ;D
As for Kurupt, he performs really well, I think. He's energetic on just about every track. There are some missed opportunities, though -- on Questions, Kurupt acknowledges the topics we want answers to...but then doesn't answer them! Does he say anything on this album? Not really, but Kurupt was never a conscience rapper to begin with. He's actually more substantive on this one than on Streetz, that's for sure. So I applaud Kurupt for his artistic growth.
Album is well mastered, because Kurupt sounds consistent throughout. But let's be real -- this is not close to Streetz Iz a Mutha in terms of pure entertainment value, nor does it sound like a sequel to it. That was a gangsta "street" album; this is more a club album is every respect (concepts & musical direction). Not much replay value for me, but I think the young people brought up on this overall vibe will like this album a lot. Should have called this album Clublights ;). The songs I like are the Intro, Yessir, I'm Drunk, I'm the Man, and Bounce Rock Skate. But none of the songs get me to nod my head, aside from Bounce Rock Skate and slightly I'm Drunk. The album also goes by fast.
All in all, well done album presuming you appreciate the direction Kurupt and Terrace took with this one. I will grant Terrace this much: he's developed a very modern sound with classical, varied orchestration including piano, violins, brass, (non classical) guitars, etc. That's a good feat to make a sound that feels contemporary but is rooted in classical instrumentation. And Kurupt took a step forward as a maturing artist.
In sum, good job, Kurupt and Terrace, but not great (lacks entertainment value). I'll give this a grade of B.
-
Album Is DOPE!!!
Kurupt Is A Grown Man On This Album, But Still Gangsta!
Grown Man "Streetz Iz A Mutha"
DPGC!!!!!
Keep It Up KURUPT!!! You Dropped A Sick Album!!!
-
Kurupt Killed this album!!! wow.. great job! lyrically Kurupt was more than on point, subjects were great! beat wise I like it too!! IM DRUNK got that old school vibe and the rest of it is all fresh!!!
Good Job Terrace & Kurupt.

well if it doesn't sell, he can always say that it wasn't an official Kurupt solo album ;D
anyway, like the other poster said, Kurupt was on fire, but the concept of picking up where Tha Streetz left off is a joke.
i'm really getting tired of the club music.
honestly, i didn't expect an album full of songs like In gotti we trust, but i did expect more songs along those lines.

I thought this was a really really really good album...better than I expected, but cant say kurupt suprised me cuz i knew he had this in him...Terrace is a great producer. I love the sound of this album
Lets stop hating on good west coast music because that's the reason were not on top right now!
-
The title track is bangin'.
-
it's aight...I'm fucken wit it.
-
All in all, I'm happy. This is a nice project. It's not my favorite when compared to projects like Space Boogie and Streetz, but it's a solid effort.
The only thing is that since they did include older songs, I think they should have put "You Know" on there, that was a great song.
BTW: Why wasn't "Massacre Central" on this album? Was it a left over or for something else all together?

Massacre Central is for Dame Grease's project.

Yessir is still as fresh to def to me as when it first dropped. Bout halfway through and so far, so good. Gonna cop this 4/20.
-
good luck with selling dope  :D ;)
LOL
4/20 is shaping up to be very expensive between coppin' quite a few CDs as well as buddah 8)
Yessir is still as fresh to def to me as when it first dropped.
co-sign, was thinking the same when it came on as I was bumpin' the album
-
^well you can always pull a Game & 'borrow' the cds
-
Although it's a couple of years old "yessir" sounds so fresh. Ill be playing this in 10 years I know. Modern classic.
Maybe having a drink while listening is altering my opinion but the track is that good. Pete rock - 8)

Yessir lol. Such a fresh beat. Bounce Rock Skate with the extended verse from Gotti even makes it that much better.
-
Bounce Rock Skate is just epic.
Im loving the album.
I'll prob do a short track review in a day or so.

The first word I can think of with this album is fresh. Completely understand Terrace's analogy on creating this album now. Gives Kurupt a whole new soundscape. Similar as to what Kurupt did once he started working with Fred Wreck, and less with Daz
-
Streetlights on Dre Studio headphones= :o
-
pretty good f-ing album.
-
Streetlights on Dre Studio headphones= :o
yep. Even one of the weaker tracks "scrape" bangs big time on them!!
-
Streetlights on Dre Studio headphones= :o
Co-sign I don't my have my proper music equipement cause i'm in vacation in Helsinki
but I brought my Beats by Dre headphones and damn album sounds so clean with it
-
why they never released Bounce, Rock, Skate video?
-
why they never released Bounce, Rock, Skate video?
Yeah, i wanna know this too. They should definitely release it now at least, since it's on "Streetlights".
-

2. I'm Burnt (Feat. Problem) - 3.5/5

A dope album!! Thanks Young Gotti!!
-
shit's off tha hook!
-
yeah this album is dope. "Questions" is a great song.......only thing I can say against Streetlights is that some of the best songs are a little short. but overall, i'm very impressed with this & it's easily better than Malice
-
gotta say I was a lil disappointed with this. but there are some nice tracks on here!
3.5/5 for me.
-
4-20-10 I'm sparkin up and supportin the big homies Kurupt & Kokane...big day 4 the WestCoast!!! Yall make sure to grab urs!!
-
I'm Drunk is so fucking smooooth. 8)
-
It's hard to say anything about this album. I ain't gonna knock his hustle but this album ain't for me and neither is Kurupt anymore.
-
you know where to get it!!!
-
Alright i peep this album and it reminds of Warren G's last album G Files a little bit , The Intro is dope , then after that Yessir is dope , then Im The Man .
and everythings else is filler to me . meanings its either average or im just not feeling it . Space Boogie album was much better to me .
Ill give it 5/10 its not bad its just seems like i heard this album before .
-
WOW!! I knew it would be dope and it sure is!! main complaint is that most of the best tracks only have 2 verses of less from kurupt which is a bummer cause Id love a 3rd one!
Best tracks (all 4-5 star star tracks)
Intro
In gotti We trust
Yessir
Im drunk (very nice!!! easy to listen to!)
Im Burnt remix
bounce rock skate kurupted mix (WOW THIS SHIT IS A MONSTER!!)
the only weak songs i felt were:
scrape
face down
i rated every track and give it a 4/5 VERY GOOD KURUPT!!!!
-
gotta say I was a lil disappointed with this. but there are some nice tracks on here!
3.5/5 for me.
yeah reminds me of Warren G's G Files album not that great
-
Standout tracks:
- In Gotti We Trust
- Yessir
OK tracks:
- Intro
- Questions
- All That I Want
- Scape
- Bounce, Rock, Skate
The rest is wack..
Overall - it turned out just as I expected from hearing the snippets.. it's def Kurupt's worst album.
Shame..
-
Got my streetlights cd early. I'm loving this album from start to finish. ;D
i think for the non west coast hip hop fan hearing this album they'll be hella surprised and love it, cause the album is rocking. For some of us because 4 tracks had leaked we might not rate it as higly. But to be honest i love this album. I think the whole project is strong. i like how different producers bring out a different kurupt and terrace has definitely done that. A special edition with the leaked songs like 'murder fitness', 'that's a lie', 'two turntables and a mic'and some of the others would be awesome too
i know you guys might not agree but for me it's 4.5/5 for me. Just missing another classic DJ Quik/Dr.Dre track instead of the 'i'm burnt remix', but if murder fitness was on there i might think different.
So far it's been a good year for West Coast hip hop, with hopefully more to come. The albums from 09/10 i'm playing in heavy rotation are..
- E-40 - Day Shift& Night Shift
- Brotha Lynch Hung - Dinner and a Movie
- Murs & 9th Wonder - Fornever
- The Kendric Lamar EP
- UNI - A Love Supreme 2.0
- NoCanDo - Jimmy The Lock
and now street lights! :)
any suggestions for good albums i might have slept on would be much appreciated.

Here is a good review of the CD http://www.hiphopdx.com/index/reviews/id.1408/title.kurupt-streetlights
Mietek23 - you clearly know nothing about music and whoever thinks Space Boogie is better than or anything else for that matter is silly...
This is Kurupt' best since Streetz...

Well, that's Mietek's opinion. It ain't touchin "Space Boogie" though, but it's a good album. I am buyin' this, i hope i can get it in the stores down here and i won't have to order it from the internet. I always rather just buy an album from the stores than orderin' it, except if it's a rare album.

Here is a good review of the CD http://www.hiphopdx.com/index/reviews/id.1408/title.kurupt-streetlights
I thought the review was pretty decent but the rating system on hiphop dx sucks. i think every good west coast album apart from brotha lynch hung got a 3 out of 5. even fashawn only got a 4
-
Who is Fashawn, Morgy?
Okka - I am going to order the CD from Amazon.co.uk and just be patient...
I think Kurupt is so much better lyrically now than where he was on Space Boogie...
His production is better now too... Look where Terrace took Kurupt on the song, "Streetlights".
-
Sounds fuckin dope! Love the album
Im def coppin this sometime soon.
Questions is AMAZING but that hook.. fuck.. I hope it grows on me..

Who is Fashawn, Morgy?
His album kinda went under the radar but it's pretty awesome. Underground west coast hip hop is really good right now
Fashawn Feat. Evidence "Our Way" - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3agcQNvZWtA - not quite sure how to embed the video...doh

can we get a streetlights 1.5??? it would seriously be pushing a classic album!! the best 9 or 10 tracks off the album wiht the best 3-4 leftovers/mixtape tracks!! talk about a classic!!!
someone hook all the extra terrace/kurupt tracks!!!
-
good album
really enjoyed it!

LOL, if I don't know nothing about music then you must be really deaf if your saying this is Gotti's best album since "Streetz Iz A Mutha".. just because we are in the West Coast section dosen't mean we got to dickride every fuckin' realese from the West Coast cats! It's the same exact bullshit when "BlaQKout" dropped, some people were saying "OMG, it's a fuckin' great album, masterpiece bla bla bla" and IT WASEN'T!
"Streetlights" turned the same way "BlaQKout" did - the hype was super high and the final product just didn't fit the expectations - plain and simple.
Well, that's Mietek's opinion.
Thanks for the defence Okka, lol :)

Your expectations. The concensus has been very positive about the album.

The biggest problem IMO with internet fans talking on message boards is their inability to refer to their statements as THEIR opinions. That's how most of these arguments get started.
If YOU don't like an album, say I don't like it, don't say THE ALBUM IS WACK.
-

You right!
Same as with the blaqkout.
I like that joint, and here everybody say it is wack. :-\
-
Well, I ain't gonna argue with y'all - it's my own opinion and I have the right to say that this track along shits on the whole "Streetlights" album:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ou6VAu3VzV8
Anyway, could someone please zip all the leftovers from "Streetlights" and put it out here - thanks :)

That'd cut reading hours at least by 50%. Real talk.

im impressed with the album over all half is the most personal any DPG member has been on a realease since 1999 if not ever, "Questions" the "Intro" "Streetlights" are great music...however i do agree songs like "Rhymes No Violence" "The Dream" "The Mic" even "Build You Up" fit perfectly but hey atleast theyre all available in perfect quality! got em all in my Ipod playlist...props to both Terrace and Gotti shit is bangin nothing is perfect these days so tracks like "Riot In The Club" are passable but tracks like "Yessir" and "Im the man" make up for it...and on iTunes you can buy the album with 3 extra songs "Pay Me"(ft. SugaFree, Daz & Soopafly) "Smokin 4:20" and "Chuccs"-the weaker of the 3...over all dope album

weird thing - no Kurupt N Daz track on this one, that's the first time on 'Rupts solo i think...
-
kurupt has come lyrically dope on this album on some traks which is the way he should be
my fave traks:
Intro - weird how he mentions how hes not what he used to be on the "Intro"
Questions (Ft. Uncle Chucc) - seemed lweird the gaps he would have in between his lyrics
In Gotti We Trust (Ft. Xzibit)
Face Down (Ft. J. Black, Tone, Terrace Martin)
Yessir
All That I Want (Ft. Snoop Dogg, J. Black)
Im Drunk (Ft. J. Black)
Riot In The Club
Im The Man (Ft. J. Black, Jah Free) - again weird here how he raps slow and then it sounds lik verses where takin from another song but still dope though
Bounce, Rock, Skate (Kurupted Mix) (Ft. Dj Drama, Snoop Dogg, Dj Quick, Terrace Martin) - kurupt killed it with the exteneded verse
7/10 for me
-

I would've liked Poetry and The Mic included in the album but I guess you cannot get everything your own way...
I think the album could've been a bit better - I feel the middle of the album included a couple of filler tracks. I think Riot was a lazy track.
-

Cheers for bonus tracks, havent heard yet but thanks.
Orderd my copy last night, looking foward to hearing the album.

The album is solid brotha...but it has a better feel to it IMO when you add the bonus tracks and a few of the left over and take off scrape, riot in the club and possibly all that I want.

Paul...I agree the track itself is a nice track, I do enjoy it. I dunno tho, for some reason I just wasn't feeling it in the track line up...perhaps if it was after I'm drunk. I dunno....I'm just the type that listens to the whole CD from beginning to end...a couple of times to really feel the vibe and then make my decisions on how I liked the CD. Most people I know pop that bitch in and jump around to the stand out tracks and they never really get a feel for the album as a whole. I just felt like there was a wierd transition in the album about mid way right around "all that I want"....the intro was something new and fresh...rupt had a different vibe, im burnt has a dope beat and im feelin the song but its been out for awhile so it wasnt so new and fresh...questions gotta hot beat...new and fresh sound, wish it was longer and kurupt answered some questions but i felt that joint too...same with in gotti we trust even tho it kinda had a dr. dre sound to it (which is dope IMO)...then there is face down which i really didnt feel at all...after the previous tracks...then there is yessir which is classic IMO...but...its dated been out for awhile...then it gets a lil too laid back an slow after all that hype and most all new fresh beats and vibes with all that I want....but I dunno maybe I just need to listen to the album again. I def find myself poppin in the CD and goin straight to all that I want cause I do like it. But Scrape, and Face Down are NO's for me. And Riot In the Club...its iight, its dated and old too....kurupts flow is cool...i could be in the mood for it at the club or something...but I didn't quite feel it in the line up either. Cause then after all that I want it picks back up and gets funky with that old skool sound (something sorta like what a dre beat might sound like on chronic 2001) cause I like I'm drunk ...wish kurupt had a few more verses on there too..but its funky..and then it kinda slows down again with im the man...and then im burnt rmx which is dope then streetlights slows it down again but is HELLA DOPE! and bounce rock skate is EPIC! shits on fire...so I dunno...I do enjoy the album but I wish maybe some tracks were rearranged to have more of a cohesive flow to it or easier transitioning.
-
bounce rock skate is one of the best songs with the dpg crew ever!!!
all of them come so hard!!! no homo,
dj quiks verse is his best ever! shit is awesome!
kurupts shit is awesome and snoops,
the beat is terrace best ever
6/5 dont yall think???
-
style...i do think bounce rock skate is fuccin sicc!!! one of the best cuts in awhile....i think its a classic!
-
Got my streetlights cd early.
I just got this in the post today (I live in the UK) and been listening through track by track on my system.
Initial reactions/mini review:
If I had to describe the album I'd say it's sounds fresh, the track arrangement turns corners and takes you on a ride. There's not one bad track here. I'll agree that Scrape is the weakest track there, but it only stands out because of the generally high standard of music here - not just beats but music. Kurupt and Terrace have achieved what was done with the BlaQKout album and I think, topped it.
From the intro to Yessir the album builds and builds to a peek then flips out and you're like what? But it's actually an interesting change in vibe that plays over the next few tracks (with I'm Drunk really standing out as quality), then I'm The Man pushes the musical depth further, the remix of I'm Burnt sounds twice as dope with the Roscoe verse (so on point!) and by the time you get into the title track 'Streetlights' you really feel like the albums picked you up and taken you on a journey. Bounce, Rock, Skate is just like the icing on the cake and just takes an already great album that bit further.
I'm going to agree with my dude morgy187 and say this CD deserves 4.5/5. A high level album and a fine achievement for Kurupt & Terrace 8)
-
it's good to know that people are still liking the album yell
-
I'm really feeling this album! It's a banger!
-
i hope kurupt makes a trak called answers in the future, in reply with questions lol
-
Album is ok, some fillers but some great tracks as well. Not what I was hoping for but much better than that Same Day Different Shit BS.
-
im feeling the whole album except the ''yessir'' and '' riots in the club''
they just sound out of place. and with all the bass n action the other songs have yessir is just tooooo dead n slow n good subbing and riots is just too old stale n sounds like a studio scrap kurupt is not really built 4 a lil john beat imo
but i bought it n was really feeling the album overall
-
i like this album more than dame and nas' album so that is sayin something! I guess it helps im baingin 1.5 version, (peep back a few pages), but yeah, this shit is GANGSTA. kurupts flow is awesome on this and he definetly kills it. Anyone else think kurupts part on "huh, what" the new dpg song is sick too? he steals the shit easily.
