Not even top 20, or 30 even.
dare i say 40? :P
-
Don't make my top 10..
But his work WITH Premier is defo one of the best duo's ever.
That said, R.I.P. Guru.
Respect.
-
No, but I'm sure people will start saying that now that he's dead.
I remember people putting Pimp C in that category when he passed lol
-
In my personal favorites, yeah, I loved Gangstarr and even when I was the biggest westcoast head in the early 90's in San Bernardino, I still banged Gangstarr. Now with that said, no his not top 10, I'd say maybe top 40, if I was pushing it top 25, but not top 10.

Dig down into his solo stuff like the "Jazzmattaz" albums. They were very good. And, let's examine this closely. To make a top 10 rappers list is pretty damn hard, especially since there's many good rappers (not many today, but i'm mainly talking about the 90's rappers.) Guru is not a top 10 because there are other rappers that are more lyrical and their flows are more unique and inspiring. I'd put him in the top 20. And there's nothing wrong with putting a rapper like that in the top 20 because there's so many other good rappers out there! With so many different top 10 lists out there it shows you that there is so much talent in hip hop. I think you all should be thinking of a top 20 or top 30 list instead of just a top 5 or top 10 list but that's just my opinion.

This is what I hate when motherfuckers dying, not the death but the Legacy being Raped. Giving it 2 much or 2 little and not proper is basically biggest disrespectful thing motherfuckers can do.
-
No, but I'm sure people will start saying that now that he's dead.

Whenever someone dies why do they have to go through this lame ass review of their career?
Guru was dope. Gangstarr was dope. Nuff said
-
Top 20 or 30 perhaps
RIP Guru
-
top 10 to me
2Pac
Rakim
Nas
Ice Cube
Scarface
KRS-One
Notorious B.I.G.
Big Daddy Kane
Melle Mel
Kool G Rap
-
lol... r u serious... top 100 maybe.
*just as an example*
Bizzy Bone >>>>> Guru
Kurupt >>>>>> Guru
DMX >>>> Guru
Guru >>>>>> Masta Killah
Guru >>>>>> Shyhiem
Guru >>>>>> Mack 10
and that's how it should be looked at. But Pimp C is up there tho, ain't too many that can fuck with Sweet James Jones even after his death. and that's tha bizness
*and truthfully imo, i'm being Generous towards G. he never really made me wanna just go in depth and listen to his music :sign_werd:. he just didn't attract my attention/curiosity like that. but now he's dead i'ma have 2 hit up amazon.com and go thru some samples lol
-
no but he still is knot on the mic and that's all that matters, yell
-
1. Guru
2. Pimp C
3. Dolla

NO

Taste is relative, so top ten lists labeled as anything other than "personal top ten" are useless.
-
No, but I'm sure people will start saying that now that he's dead.

Gurus definitely got classics under his belt with Gangstarr, but as a stand alone emcee, nah bro, monotone lyrics and standard flow, didnt really go out of the box. He's dope, and definitely left a huge impression on hip hop with his Gangstarr work, but thats about it. R.I.P. to the man though
-
yeh bro u got me. this is straight from preemo himself:
MOSTLY, I WILL CHERISH EVERYTHING WE CREATED TOGETHER AS GANG STARR, FOREVER. I’M GONNA MISS HEARING HIS SIGNATURE MONOTONE VOICE WHEN HE WALKS IN THE ROOM, BUT THE SONGS WILL ALWAYS BRING IT BACK TO ME….
no disrespect to the man but lol he got it right on
-
Hes undisputedly a top 100 emcee of all time, his ranking in that list is a personal choice and therefore no answer is right or wrong.
-
honestly it's hard to believe most west coast fans opinion on anything muthafuccas go out they way to put west mc's in anything i'm just wait'n for someone to say kurupt is a top 10 mc of all time or quik yell
-
I wouldnt say he's anywhere near one of the top 10 on the mic at all no, but I would say that he, along with DJ Premier as Gang Starr, has been part of one of the top 5 most influential hip-hop groups of all time. Which in my opinion is a much higher accolade.

whos your top rapper bro, im curious now
-
iight i take back what i said about Kurupt being better than Guru. I don't know what tha fuck I was thinking lol. not tryna go on Gotti tho. but in the 90's Kurupt had him beat. i can't really come to a conclusion. overall tho, Kurupt is better, but as far as in depthness go, Guru had him beat. So it's like a tie but it ain't a tie. i'm smacked. but still tho
-
In the Gang Starr days, top 20.
-
whos your top rapper bro, im curious now
Kool G

not a top 10 mc for all the reasons others have mentioned, but he is and will always be one of my favourites just off the strength of his work as one half of gang starr...
the whole top 10 of all time argument is really played out btw...everyones different, everyone has their own reasons for listening or liking someone, we're never all gonna agree, leave it at that 8)
