No, I don't like MCs with bad voices, (and that's just the beginning of his problems) but Ant is good.

Blah, Blah, Blah @ Backpacker shit.Atmosphere to me at least, is like an entry level underground act, not to say there weak, or wack or whatever, but if you judge thier scene or whatever it is you think they fit in with, just on them, you're selling yourself short.

Anyways, my most, but not all, fav' Atmosphere tracks are mostly from the Lucy Ford album, i really didn't feel the latest release(sevens travels).

Fav' tracks(Which i encourage anyone who is interested to peep):

Like Today
The Woman With The Tattooed Hands
Don't Ever Fuckin' Question That
Nothing But Sunshine
WND
Gods Bathroom Floor
Cats Van Bags(Feat' Brother Ali), Brother Ali and Slug also made the track "Blah, blah, blah" for Ali's album, but i think it's wack so fuck it.
Free Or Dead
If I Was Santa Clause
God Loves Ugly
Party For The Fight To Write

and Collabs:

Sage Francis, Eyedea and Slug - Embarrassed
Eyedea and Slug - Forget Me
Eyedea, Slug and DJ K Salaam - A Wake
Doseone, Jel(Themselves) and Slug - Program To Hunt 2007
Slug, Aesop and MF Doom - Put Ya Quarter Up

Atmosphere is one of my favourite groups, although I think there are many producers that got better beats than Ant, so actually I'm more like a Slug fan - he has a dope voice and his flow is so damn tight 8)

My favourite of their albums is definitely "God Loves Ugly", which also includes their best track: "One Of A Kind" 8) Slug's parts are amazing on this track...

I also love his part on the Abstract Rude track "Frisbee". Check it out...

Slug's one of the best emcees in the game and Ant's production fits him very well, all of their releases are very dope, but like the homie t'cha said u gotta check the whole God Loves Ugly album, especially tracks like One Of A Kind, Saves The Day, Lovelife, Blame Game, Fuck You Lucy, Godlovesugly...

even love songs which I usually don't like at all are dope as fuck when Slug spits them

This falls under the same category as Cunninlynguists. Whiny-emo-Rap. Don't like it. Stop fucking crying cuz your bitch broke up with you. Faggot.

Brother Ali is dope, but that track he did with Slug was weak. Ant's production is hit or miss.

now its just Slug (vocals) & Ant (production)

their first album "Overcast" was Slug, Ant, Beyond, Spawn, & Stress

I was having a argument about this today and i came to the conclusion that nerd rap is WACK. Anticon is the laughing stock of hip hop ..The shit is so close to punk rock its not funny. Thats why punk rock kids appeal to the nerd rap...The Nerd Rap Movement is killin' hip hop. I'm glad i don't have to wait long until that genre turns into emo- punk rock

i love how people call atmosphere things like "Nerd Rap" "Space Shit" "Scientific Shit" etc...since when has atmosphere ever been scientific? i can see some things being called that (buck 65 for example)...but then again canibus' lyrics are more scientific than buck 65 ever could be but people automatically assume they're wack because they are underground (and/or white)

*Nerd Rap* isn't a genre, it's a buzzphrase.Correct me if i'm wrong, but i thought HipHop was about representing what you are, why are people made that they express themselves and what they personally feel?Lol, anyways, Atmosphere, Slug himself isn't too far out at all, listen to WND, Party For The Fight To Write, Trying To Find A Balance, And you'll see alot of similiar themes that relate to all of HipHop.

we dont all get along, but we sing the same song, party for the fight to write, well right on.

Before i listened to as much independant HipHop as i do now, i was so mislead as to what it was about, i found it so suprising, refreshing and just plain exciting and how familiar yet so creative cats like Slug, Brother Ali, Aesop, Eyedea and MF Doom could be.

Truth be told, most of the wack Nerd rappers are white. But, then again, Canibus is wack("Look what Harry Potter did to Andrew Gollotta kid" wtf?), Louis Logic is corny, and various others. DON'T make it a race thing.

Is it our fault Atmosphere, El-P, Eyedea, Abilities etc are white? Na. It's THEIR fault for being nerdy, wack and corny. Fuck a grown rapper crying because his girl broke up with him.

Title: Re:Anyone here feelin Atmosphere?
Post by: Ras Kass' Toothpick on February 29, 2004, 12:47:26 PM
It's got a lot to do with the voice too.  Slug voice and delivery make him sound like a nerd and with some of his content and being corny he qualifies as nerd rap.  Same can be said about Sage Francis and Aesop Rock, they sound like nerds.  Shit like "Makeshift Patriot" is just laughable, it's just so damn corny.
Keith Murray kicks some retarded rhymes with big words and space shit sometimes but I wouldn't call it nerd rap cause it doesn't sound like it.

HoeHopper: How'd I know you would come with some insanely dumb comment?

It's one thing to make a Love song for a girl. I don't find a problem with that. But, when you start whining, getting on your hands and knees and shit for this bitch, that's when I lose respect.

SGV(Check The Sig)*<--ain't that clever*: I have yet to see a post of urs which referes to a post of someone else and manages to 1.answer the questions if any happen to be asked and 2.doesn't ignore either a part of, or the whole point, made in the post.. maybe 'insanley dumb' is ur translation for 'sorry, I don't get it' so lemme tell u.. even though there was no question mark there was still a question asked :'how are lyrics about different topics like for example love childish when u like lyrics with the only message "I'm the realest, I'll kill u, I'm in a gang" which is the kinda lyric cats like C-Bo spit'.. also lemme tell u love is not the only topic Slug raps about.. but how could I expect a dude who will listen to an album and doesn't seem to listen closely enough to recognize the name of the rapper (the verbal hologram) or misses half of a verse of a diss song (Bully) and still claims to know it well enough to consider it wack, to catch that..

I guess u go by what u heard when talking about an artist.. u heard Slug is a nerd who always raps about love, u say it.. u heard jedi mind use the word nigga, u say it.. u did not hear about the nicknames of jedi mind's rappers though so.. u dunno it.. kinda sad.. but at least it makes u capable of talking some shit in every thread about any artist on a forum so it does the job..
Title: Re:Anyone here feelin Atmosphere?
Post by: SGV on February 29, 2004, 02:02:35 PM
Here we go again.

You comment was dumb for the fact that I never insiuated that lyrics had to be gangsta to be tight. So...possibly YOU don't get it.

I never noticed the question about "Love being childish, while gangsta lyrics aren't" hence why I didn't respond.

"Bully" is beyond horrible. I got the track, what are you talking about?

LOL. I've heard that "Betty Ford" album and "Sev7ns Travels." I heard a good amount of emo-ness in those albums. Again, what are you talking about?

As for Jedi Mind. Uh...I have "The Psycho Social...," "Violent By Design,"  and "Visions Of Ghandi." I bump VBD and VOG on a regular. I've heard a good amount of them to know that Vinnie Paz has said nigga.

I never knew you had to know a rappers nickname to comment on them. LMAO. Get on with that man.

HoeHopper, I don't know why you really go out of your way man. You bring up shit that has NOTHING to do with a post/thread and still don't prove shit.

By the way, you got your name from Dr. Dre. I made mine up. Who's clever? LOL. Clown ass.
Title: Re:Anyone here feelin Atmosphere?
Post by: D.R.E.-Dogg on February 29, 2004, 02:28:11 PM
lol^^ funny the way u act like u dunno what I'm talkin about

once a dude posted half of the lyrics of bully saiying "what's wack about those lyrics" all u had to say was "those lyrics are from Bully?" u don't wanna tell me u listened to the track and instantly forgot half the verse?

as for jedi mind.. what I brought this up for is the fact that Vinnie sais his nickname a whole lotta times in his lyrics, so if u really heard all 3 albums and did not recognize him refering to himself as the Verbal Hologram once.. that's saying something about the way u listen to shit.. the Intro of 'The Psycho-Social..' for example basically consists of him repeating his nickname

if u really wanna tell u missed that I can't be surprised about u thinkin Slug only raps about love, even if u heard all albums.. or to say it in a more general way.. I can't take ur judgement on subject matter any serious since u are simply not capable of keeping lyrics in mind, or not capable of listening to lyrics closely enough to know what they are talking about.. simple as that

I hope u got it this time

and since, as a matter of fact, u like C-Bo u obviously think those kinda lyrics are tight.. I never said u said lyrics have to be gangsta..

so now, after further explanations.. won't u finally answer the question..

how the fuck are the kind of lyrics Slug spits nothing a grown man should spit when
lyrics with the only message "I'm the realest, I'll kill u, I'm in a gang" which is the kinda lyric cats like C-Bo spit'
are the kind of lyrics a grown man should spit

that whining shit ain't no argument, whining about something isn't more childish than recording an album full of pointless threads

LOL @ you remembering EVERYTHING I say.

The thing about "Bully" at that moment, I had no clue that the full version of "Bully" came out. From the 2 minutes or so I had of the track, I thought it was real wack.

Where did this whole Vinnie Paz thing come from? That "Ikon" thread? I was MISTAKEN. I thought he was talking about Crooked I. Excuse me for making a mistake. LOL. You're constantly reaching.

Like I said, and hopefully YOU understand this, from those 2 albums I've heard, Slug has a good amount of Emo-bullshit in his lyrics.

As for C-Bo. I used to like those kinds of lyrics, when I was growing up. I'm starting to stray away from that shit. The WCM mixtape was aight. Mobfather the same. He comes with a hot flow and sometimes busts about you real shit, but I don't really get down with much gangsta music anymore.

A grown man should not whine over a bitch. Period. A grown man should not rap about being gangsta. Period.

Slug's rhymes are pussy. A grown ass man SHOULD NOT whine about losing a girl. If he does, he's a pussy. Real life and in Hip Hop.

A man in his 30s, like C-Bo, should not rap about gangsta shit. That's plain tired.

If you don't understand my quote then I'm sorry. It's self-explanatory. And it's obvious that I know Vinnie Paz' nickname, hence why I caught on to what you were saying.

So now that you've proven nothing. Back to the REAL topic.

No. I'm not feeling Atmosphere.

what I mentioned just turned out to be different, yet not less pathetic

1.u judge diss tracks as wack after hearing an a few sec. snippet

2.sometimes u overlook what's written right in front of u and just see the parts u want to see..

back to the topic.. like i said before, to express emotions u need lyrical skill, Slug does have this skill --> Slug is not wack

if u think emotional lyrics are wack that's ur problem, it's not on u to say what rappers are allowed to rap about withouth being wack, as long as they somehow prove skill it's not wack

back to the topic.. like i said before, to express emotions u need lyrical skill, Slug does have this skill --> Slug is not wack (LOL @ this. Emotional raps are wack, when about women. If your content is wack, then you really don't have skills.)

if u think emotional lyrics are wack that's ur problem, it's not on u to say what rappers are allowed to rap about withouth being wack, as long as they somehow prove skill it's not wack (Like I said, just because you "got skills" doesn't mean your tight. Canibus has tons of lyrical skill. But, his content is beyond garbage. That makes him wack.)

I didn't keep the snippet as I didn't have a reaon to but I don't think it was that long, anyway as u learned by seing that the better half of the track was the second half, u now know that a diss track is not to be jusged before u heard all verses.. congrats

and yes, as u recently found out urself the title of the track had the key words "verbal hologram" in it.. so there's no way u could enter it without either overlooking it or not knowing who's name it is if u reply thinkin it's crooked I

and how many times will I have to repeat it his content is not wack.. u just think it is but that doesn't mean shit.. all it means is that u ain't gonna listen to him but nobody gives a fuck if u do.. emotional rap being wack is bullshit, it's just something u don't like but others like it so what.. people who say Bis is wack say that cuz he doesn't say anything at all in his rhymes in the end.. but Slug does.. whether the shit he does say is wack or not is not on u.. he does have a point/message, he does have skillz, he's not wack

^^ I send it to you right now. It's 1:56. If 2 minutes of a diss track isn't good, then he really did do his job.

Actually, before I even quoted myself from that thread, I had already knew what you were talking about. Kill that noise.

So wait a second, I'm not allowed to think someone is wack based on content. Damn. I'm sorry I had no clue we weren't allowed to base an opinion on content. I guess if every rapper came out rapping ABCDEF etc. I wouldn't be allowed to say they're wack.

 ::)

Hey, Ja Rule puts emotion into his raps. I guess he's got skill, so he's not wack! Wow!

^^the track is 5:17 long.. u didn't even hear the half of it when u claimed it was wack.. and u were surprised with the dope part that one dude quoted so u know it was obviosly wrong to judge it after only hearing a lil part of it

how retarded are u LoL, abcfuckinef doesn't make any sense so it's wack.. the shit slugs speaks about does make sense and it also expresses something real, it's not some random punchlines that just rhyme so u can't say it's a fact that it's wack
u saying u hate that kind of rap is a totally different thing than saying it's wack.. u can hate someone cuz of his voice but that ain't got shit to do with his skills and the fact that he's a good artist if he is

Ja doesn't put shit in his raps.. that's what makes slug dope he succeeds to do it

I wasn't impressed, I was questioning the guy. Because, like I said, I was unaware that a full a version came out. What's hard to understand?

Wait, you said I can't judge content. If someone raps the Alphabet, that's their content. C'mon, keep your stories straight.

And, Ja has emotions in his raps. But, I guess I proved your throught process wrong, so again, you back peddle.

alphabet is not a content, it doesn't make sense.. are u a retarded child or something?  u really think ur clever with this reatarded comparison don't u LoL

Slug has something to say, he has a message, someone with the alphabet  doesn't, he might as well just make random sounds..

I don't have to back peddle for shit lol my point is proven and it was posts ago.. u just make up new random bullshit to get this discussion to a point where somebody will not reply anymore cuz it's a waste of time like u did before..

if u consider any emotional rap wack and gangsta rap too, what are the types of lyrics u accept LoL? ..what's the great content about Crooked I's 'freestyles'? it's just battle, no message or nothing at all

Hey content is content. What you rap about is your content. Sorry buddy.

I make up random bullshit? LOL. OK Lt. Reach.

Great content, nowadays? There's very little. Immortal Technique can bring some real dope content. Crooked's content isn't top notch, he's a battle rapper. Brother Ali has some coo content. Who else? 2Mex. Gift Of Gab. Shysti. A few others. For the most part, content is really lacking in Hip Hop.

Quote
con·tent1    ( P )  Pronunciation Key  (kntnt)
n.

1. Something contained, as in a receptacle. Often used in the plural: the contents of my desk drawer; the contents of an aerosol can.

2.The subject matter of a written work, such as a book or magazine. Often used in the plural.

Hence, if the alphabet is their subject matter, it is their content.

LoL @u coming with more bullshit by the second I say it.. shit liek that definition is nothing but a waste of time, u know that Im talking about content for a rap song and such content has to make some sense, random letters is not lyricism

so on the one hand u consider Slug wack even though he has lyrical skill just cuz u personally don't like his content, on the other hand u consider Crooked I's verses some of the best ever in hiphop when they're pure battle verses without any meaningfull content..

that's where u're hypocritical
Title: Re:Anyone here feelin Atmosphere?

Hey you're talking content, I proved you wrong, yet again. Rather, dictionary.com did.

But, see, here's the difference. Just because Slug "has meaning" in his verses doesn't make him better than anyone. Crooked I's verses are solid, battle raps are coo, and Slug has some good battle raps. But, Slug kills himself, to me, with his emo shit. That is why TO ME he is wack.

well I never said u aren't allowed to hate his music but when people say somebody's wack I see that as a claim that the artist they talkin about are as a matter of fact wack, like me when I claim Ja Rule is wack cuz there's not a thing about him that could make u say he has skillz

there's rappers I don't like but I don't call em wack if I know they got some skillz so I admit it but still hate their music even when I don't like the whole style.. but I don't consider them wack artists cuz I gotta keep the distance between skillz and the way they do what they do as an artist and on the other hand my personal taste

damn you guys thats 2 out of 3 threads so far i've checked where you two are going at it.

anyways i wanna clarify something about this so called "begging on your hands and knees" shit that you seem to think slug is talking about...i dont hear that much of that shit from them and when i do its generally stuff from the LUCY (not betty sgv) ford album or its songs like "fuck you lucy". i dont think most people realize that lucy isnt an ex girlfriend. or even a real person for that matter.
