curious as to thoughts on this, have never seen discussed.
I like them both alot but I not only like Nas more but I feel he's somewhat better than Biggie as well as far as depth and lyrics. Both definitely sick. My bias stems from me liking Illmatic more than Ready to die but I can definitely see an argument against nas cause of stuff liike Nastradamus and such.
thoughts?

hard one..for me its a matter of taste, i like nas shit and i think hes one of the best in the game but i like biggies shit more..
he's stuff is pure entertainment..sick flow, great party tracks that always brings back memories
not to take anything away from nas though

I could listen to Biggie forever. I could listen to Nas forever too but Biggies more appealing. He had the sickest multiples besides Big L.
-
always hated biggies flow....Nas for me big time...not too many ppl can fuk wit Nas on a gd day
-
Nas
...I was always into Biggie, back in the day when he was alive I liked him even more than Nas, he was my favorite East Coast artist. But I think he's way over-rated now.

thats about right.

yeah to me if the greatest classic beats the greatest classic it's probably the better artist.

I don't know that dude was over-rated. I think he was insanely talented, BUT I just think Nas's shit is deeper and that nas has more artistic versatility.

I still think Big was over-rated, but I agree with you that the reason we love Nas more is that Nas comes with a broader perspective.

I go with Nas, Illmatic over Ready to Die, and It Was Written and I Am over Life After Death.
I will say his a better all around artist, but those that pick Biggie, it's not much of a margin so it's very understandable. It's all about preference.

No one will ever rhyme the way Big did. It was just amazing to listen to that, but outside of that Nas wins this one. Introspection, diversity... Nas got it.

Nas is more of a poet and speaks on alot more things than Biggie did. In other words hes more of the conscious type than Biggie was. Biggie was more about his hustle and flow but was also a great lyricist and he was down with Puff Daddy. Thats why he got more mainstream appeal and fans than Nas did. Right now Nas would be more celebrated than Biggie still is 10 years after his death. Nas has released 2 classic albums, 2 near classics, and the rest of what he put out is solid so that means he has one of the strongest catalogs in hip hop history. This is a hard comparation i really can't decide who I would prefer actually. If this was 7-10 years ago i would prefer Biggie easily though.
And yeah T thats Nas.

Nas - AND im going to see him perform TONIGHT!!! WHOOP WHOOP!
Nas = Greatest Rapper Alive

I have always though that Nas deserved to get the crown cuz to me he is the king of the big apple.BIG is dope but nas had more stuff to say and his flow is amazing.

big said that, and cube used in his song child support off his last album

It Was Written and I Am over Life After Death.
I dunno about that. I was listenin to Life After Death last night and there are far more dope tracks on that than the 2 nas albums put together.
-
LOL, i dont think so, second disc is straight garbage except for 2 or 3 songs, hella weak record but overrated due to his death...it was written alone >> life after death
-
Nas hands down.

Like the thread says, its preference. And i still think Nas is the better. I find It Was Written boring personally.
-
nas...don't get me wrong i like biggie but my choice goes to nas just cause of the beat choices
-
Biggie has more charisma but I like Nas' music much more so I'll go with Nas.
I don't feel any Biggie joint as much as feel joints like
Nas is Like
One Mic
What Comes Around
The World Is Yours
and others
-
I'd say Biggie, I got mad respect for Nas but Biggie just had that crazy flow, he had better records than Nas in my opinion, I'd say Ready To Die And Life After Death are better than Illmatic and Stillmatic, not to say that I don't bump all 4 all the time, but Biggie fa sho
-
biggie smalls is the illest
-
I'm sure there's an argument against this but the way I see it Ready to Die and Illmatic and from there Nas just demolishes. There's one good album's worth of material on LAD and then Nas has a couple near classics, stillmatic and HHID that completely blow LAD/duets/born again away. If big lived it'd be a different story but Nas still has a far far broader artistic scope than Big. did they ever collab?

i prefer biggie because he is more of a storyteller, nas comes 2 much intellectual sometimes and it can get boring. I think nas is better and illmatic is one of the greatest album ever done. Ready 2 die has a special place in my hearth though cause it was one of the first album i ever bought when i was real young and i grew up with it

Tough one.
Nas is the better lyricist his lyrics are a lot deeper and have more hidden meaning. "Who killed it" shows that . Also check out an old thread i did a while back for another example http://www.dubcnn.com/connect/index.php?topic=90872.0
Biggie wasnt capable of that, but he could put words together better than most.
Im gonna go with Nas, but if biggie was still alive and and developed more as an artist im not sure who id say.
-
Biggie had one of the alltime great flows in history but had released only 2 albums before he passed, I would have liked to hear more material from him but he is probably my second favorite east coast MC next to Nas
-
After his new album I think it's got to be Nas.
Eminem has fallen off, Snoop has fallen off, but Nas has stood the test of time. He put out a classic more than 10 years ago; and now just this year he released the most important concept album we've seen in years! Hip-Hop Is Dead is the motto for the new year. Check out his list of albums...
Classic Albums
1. Illmatic
2. Stillmatic
Superior Albums (better than 99% of the rest of the industry)
1. It Was Written
2. God's Son
3. Lost Tapes
Wack Albums we'd all like to forgive him for
1. Nastradaumus
2. I Am

5. "What Goes Around"
6. "My Country"

8. "Dance"
9. "Heaven"
10. and every song on Illmatic
-
The crown defiantly goes to Nas.
Infinite, where would you place Street's Disciple?
-
Nas easily.
