Well its just confusing isn't it?

So as a mod it's my job to make stuff easier.

And I judged that as a football thread has blown the fuck up to over 100 replies recently, at the moment in this forum real football holds the edge over American Football or Gridiron or whatever.

No...It should be called whatever the hell they want to call it...I didn't invent it, so I don't get to name it.
Title: Re: ARE YOU READY FOR SOME FOOTBALL??? (American)
Post by: Don Jacob on September 11, 2004, 12:19:36 AM
the reason they call it foot ball is because for in order for a team  to obtain poss. of the ball (save interception and rare squandered 4th down attempt)  the ball must be kicked. that's why it's called FOOTball because almost every possesion starts with a guy kicking the ball.

and why are you getting so emotional over the name? just shows how niggled you are.

anyways say what you want about the name. the actual athletes in our football are the best in out of any sport.

any athletic prowess that can be fathomed  is in the NFL and the best of the best are there, unlike in soccer where you run around kicking a ball  for hours , foot ball requires vast amounts of different athletic ability , and requires more intelligence.

soccer....checkers
football....chess

No...It should be called whatever the hell they want to call it...I didn't invent it, so I don't get to name it.

Then I should inform you that what you Americans call Football actually came from the game "Rugby", and there already was a game called "Football" when Americans came up with their own version.
So "American Rugby" is actually more fitting than Football.

Check it:

Quote
HISTORY OF AMERICAN FOOTBALL

Football historians, those who have studied the game and its origins, place the games beginnings in rugby, an English game played with many similarities to football. Rugby began in eighteen twenty-three at the famous Rugby Boys School in England.
(...)
Walter Camp, the coach at Yale and a dissenter from the IFA over his desire for an eleven man team, helped begin the final step in the evolution from rugby-style play to the modern game of American football. The IFAs rules committee, led by Camp, soon cut the number of players from fifteen to eleven, and also instituted the size of the playing field, at one hundred ten yards.(...)

So, pretty much, both Football, Rugby, and American Football originally comes from England.  :)

football is only called soccer in usa, should the whole world change to satisfy the americans?, i think not... like Jome said, real football existed way before american football...

american football requires intelligence??... yea...

somebody passes the ball to some guy who's supposed to drive through the defense and score...
he fails...
...time out...
....new tactic...
somebody passes the ball to another guy who's supposed to drive through the defense and score...

10 min later
SCOOOORE......
bonus kick... (now its time for somebody to actually kick the ball)...
.....

intelligence.... yea

and LMAO at I-bo thinking soccer takes more intellegence

i've played both sports and soccer's whole objective is to kick the ball up field without getting it stolen and get it in the net.....a concept a helmet retard could get.

i-bo do yourself a favor and rent a football game on x box or playstation, get madden 2005 and take a look at those plays that you have to choose at the begining of every play, then tell me if you can even comprehend any of it. now those plays are only a small fraction of the constructed plays that are out there football is a sport that requires a lot of smarts.

now if i'm going to watch a sport which one am i going to follow

soccer...whose poster child is:

i've played both sports and soccer's whole objective is to kick the ball up field without getting it stolen and get it in the net.....a concept a helmet retard could get.
american footballs whole objective is to take the ball up field without getting it stolen or falling, to tuchdown.....a concept a non-helmet retard could get

i-bo do yourself a favor and rent a football game on x box or playstation, get madden 2005 and take a look at those plays that you have to choose at the begining of every play, then tell me if you can even comprehend any of it. now those plays are only a small fraction of the constructed plays that are out there football is a sport that requires a lot of smarts.
ive already played madden 2004... didnt like it at all... the breaks took more time than the periods.

5 billion sounds better than 5,000 million. are you that arrogant to think that people don't know how much 5 billion is.....also that statistic is far too big......i-bo quit being such a jack ass.

where in there did i make a comparison of physicality.....i'm talking about how smart each game is.....any jock can play soccer....you at least have to have a head on your shoulders to be one of the primier possitions in the NFL

and now that you brought up rugby and football........we have rugby in the states too and there's a GOOOOOOOOD reason why rugby players don't wear pads and football players do......if ray lewis, warren sapp,LT, Bruce smith, and reggie white were rugby players, there'd be casualties every sunday and monday after a game.

Rugby players=tough
football players=tougher

maby i was to arrogant... but hey.. there's alotta americans here, so i didnt want anybody to misunderstand (sarcasm)

with "helmet-retard", i thought you were referring to an american football player (they have helmets and they are pretty stupid, you know)

ive also tried EA Links (golf)... didnt like it at all, too many pauses, well maby its too advanced for me aswell (sarcasm)

lets check what the rock have to say, he've tried both games

I've had this argument with a lot of my friends who are in the NFL, They go 'no, NFL is tougher'. I say to them 'picture this. You go play the football game right now. Take all your pads off. Take them all off. Go tackle. Let's see how hesitant you'll be'. In America, we can be hesitant, but rugby players? No way, man. Rugby is non-stop, there's the scrum. It's a lot tougher.

oh wow we're getting a quote from a guy that never even been to the NFL....that sure supports your argument  ::)

again there's a reason why football players wear pads and rugby players don't.........if ray lewis was a rugby player and hit people as hard as he does.......he'd be on trial for man slaughter every week.

"again there's a reason why football players wear pads and rugby players don't.........if ray lewis was a rugby player and hit people as hard as he does.......he'd be on trial for man slaughter every week."

rugby is the tougher sport becasue they don't have pads and it's non-stop

football has the tougher players

does anyone disagree?

I like neither.

But Rugby is non stop.  You do not get a break.

That's all I'll say.
