jacked this from another form............
"lets put this in perspective its like nelly dropping in 2020 an still be relevant
its like hove dropping in 2016 an still being relevant
its like 50 droping in 2023 an still being relevant
its like nas dropping in 2014 an still being relevant
yall get the picture
LL has an the greatest longevity of any artist ever in hiphop.
1985 radi drops......20 years later 2004 he drops another LP that debuts high on the charts an has the #1 video on 106 an park.We will never see an artist who spaned the run DMC,whoodinee Fat boy era an is doing it in the kanye west,nelly,eminem,50, outkast, hov era"
by the way, i dont feel the album at all but you have to give him MAJOR props for what he has done..........

his shiet sell just cuz people like to hear all his albums went platinum. same with Snoop. I wouldnt be suprised if Def Jam pulled some cards to make that happen.
-
Nah, def jam doesn't have to do anything to help him. LL has tons of fans, older folks who've listened to him for years. There's probably 500 thousand women in America who buy every album he puts out. Maybe some of them haven't heard he's got a new album out yet, lol.
-
I actually had the displeasure of listening to the album. It's a solid 1 mic. I feel sorry for anyone who spent money on it. I give LL props for staying in the game for so long but he may want to consider hanging up the mic for good.
-
actually I do think if Nas still drops in 2014 it will be still relevant.
LL doesnt make the best music, so no Goat to me. He's been in the game for a while, and still dropping. Wow.
You think Dre wouldnt sell a shitload if he wasnt to scared and arrogant to release further Albums? Huh?
Not to forget pac lol.. since the early 90's in the game, since the mid 90's dead and still selling ...
Further, I'd rather see MC's stopping to put Albums out after 10 good years than see them ruining their lagecy with whack ass Definitions.
-
I don't know if his legacy would ever be passed. Pac would've done it but for now his record is untouchable

Eminem is the only one that I can see still doing this later on. If Jimmy Buffet can move major units at his age, I think Em could as well.
-
can LL just retire...
-
99% of his fans wear high heels

props to LL

DATS IMPRESSIVE I MUST SAY.

99% of his fans wear high heels
LL still won

shit l.l can got platinum in new york alone..he really dont need any other states
pac cant be compared 2 l.l. kuz l.l. been goin platinum since 85 so that means his 1st album went platinum as well...pac shit didnt do nuthin until his demise...
its only 6 people in the game now that are close to catch l.l.'s platinum streak and thats
outkast
snoop
jay-z
eminem
nas
and its funny wit all this shit been said...canibus coulda ended his career... but l.l ended his shit be4 it got even started..much talent as canibus has..he couldnt stay in the spotlight long enough 2 dethrone him
cube woulda past him..but he fell off big time..
-
DATS IMPRESSIVE I MUST SAY.
-
I fully agree with you.
I have major respect for LL, although I stopped buying his shit after "Mama Said Knock You out". I'm from the era when LL came up in the game and it's an unbelievable achievement to still be relevant after 20 years. LL was on top of the game, fell off, and came back. He won battles and lost battles, but LL is still here now and where is Canibus? Where is Moe Dee?
Out of respect I'll probably listen to his new shit, but I'm quite sure I won't buy it. Still, major props to Cool J ;).
-
i didn't even bother to listen to the album but i admire him for his longev. Goddamn, 20 years in the game (almost) 11 albums and still sellin like a muhfucka...impressive
-

That's great news for LL. He can still push units like anyone else.
-
Cube from the same era, sold more and makes better music nowadays.
-
yep, its not even debatable.
ll never put out bad albums until after mr smith.
-
LL didn't even hit gold with his last album "10" and "G.O.A.T." only went gold. He hasn't been platinum since "Phenomenon". Props to LL though, he still one of my favorite MC's due to his early work since his "B.A.D." album was the first album I ever bought. He still drops hot tracks here and there.
P.S. Pac never sold until his demise? LOL! He went gold with his first album while he was alive and every other album he released during his lifetime went platinum.
-
LL's shit is 10 times better than anything Ice Cube has released since 98
-
LL's shit is 10 times better than anything Ice Cube has released since 98
I gotta go with my man on that one.
-
the war disc was better than any of ll's newer works, and cubes singles have been better as well.
-
cube got 6 albums out, not 11 and since the war disc came out he's been quite boring except a few tracks maybe
-

8...You're forgetting "Kill At Will" and "Bootlegs & B-Sides"...Then you got the 2 WSC albums...Then the 2 NWA albums he was part of...All together, Cube has 8 solo albums and 4 group albums...Together that makes 12.

What about KRS? I know he never sold that much, but he's been releasing album after album since '87, and I think the count is up to like 13 albums, and I don't think he's ever released a complete flop, critically speaking. Besides going platinum doesn't mean shit to an artist's wallet. They make all their money off tours, and I've never seen LL sell out a football field. Unless your album went diamond you don't see that much money with out touring. Selling albums only means a bigger record contract.
So as far as longevity GOAT I'm going with Kris.
-
since 99 both cube an LL have been equally as wack both having a few bright moments since than tho. Question tech, where did you hear Cube sold more cuz i could of sworn his tops sales wise is 2 million. And LL's put up those numbers a couple of times.
-

Okay one flop. Even as a devout christian I wasn't feelin most of that album. But LL's got a whole lot of flops. And 85 compared to 87 isn't that big a deal. It just means Rick Rubin found this guy instead of that guy. Now if Rick had went to South Bronx and picked up KRS then he would been around since '85.

There's also a dude named Too Short still around doing his thing...Anyone know of him?
-
krs has the best discography in rap history, but hes no longer relevant. neither is short dog. start crying...im just speaking the truth...ll is still selling...they never really were in the first place
-
This album was a complete piece of shit, even though it sold 187k, it still sucks, and LL fell the fuck off. And I don't know why everyone is hating on Cube, he's released shit I've liked since 98.
-

I wouldn't exactly call LL relevent. 187,000, big deal! It probably won't sell too much more. You wanna talk about relevent after 20+ years then mention U2, or Aerosmith, 30+ years Bruce Springsteen and Michael Jackson (except for the wrong reasons), after 40+ years Bob Dylan and the Rolling Stones. KRS One is still relevent to the rap community and that's all we can expect from rap artists. No rapper stays on top of the music community for than a few years, sometimes they get a comeback for a couple more years but that's it. LL may be more relevent that KRS but that doesn't mean he's that relevent.
KRS won a Billboard founders award (for Hip Hop) along side Isaac Hayes (who won it for RnB) in 2004. I'd like to think that is at least somewhat relevent.

how many niggas on your block were anticipating/prasing/even talking about digital or keep right? exactly. even if its only women buying ll's albums, hes still relevant, cause people wanna hear his shit. krs aint. he reminds me of that old bitter man whos still trying to cling on to his past. talking about whats real hiphop and whats not?nigga, shut the fuck up. you didnt create this shit. making hiphop bibles and all that nonsense, fuck outta here.

When I said KRS One is still relevent to the rap community I didn't mean to imply that he was relevent, I just meant he isn't completely forgotten about. LL is more relevent than KRS, and he always was. I just don't think LL is that relevent to begin with.

6 solo albums
3 group albums
1 EP
Kill At Will is an EP, I wouldn't consider Bootlegs & B-Sides a real album and I don't know if you've heard the second N.W.A (probably not) but he wasn't a member of the group then. So group and solo that's nine LPs and an EP.

Bullshit.
Cmon man , GOAT and 10 were both wack. I gave this piece of shit a listen and turned it off by track 8.
Vol 1 War > any Cool J album since mr. smith
-

Based on random facts, figures and sources Ive seen through out history, Ive come to the understanding that the following are Cubes sales
AMW- Platinum
DC- 2 Platinum (Cube was King)
KAW- Platinum
Predator- 2 platinum (Good day blew for him on mtv)
Lethal Injection- Platinum
Bow Down- 2 platinum (recently certified)
Vol 1 War- Platinum
Vol. 2 Peace- Gold
Terrorist Threats- Gold
Ice Cube Greatest Hits- didnt sell nothing
Also Lench Mob went Gold.
Thats like 12 million, not including NWA
And Cube never spit for the hoes, until he became Don Mega
*remembers You Can Do It*
*shudders*
-
Where are you, Mr. C2Knuckles?
-
There's also a dude named Too Short still around doing his thing...Anyone know of him?
YES !!!! THANK YOU......THERE GOES A REAL LEGEND !!!!
16 or so albums deep......had demos out in 83......STILL DOIN IT BIG !!!
-
since Cube changed his style to that slacky whacky style he became a bitch. sometimes he still spits straight fire like in "call 911".
-
WTF? "NWA & The Posse" was NWA's first album...Then "Straight Outta Compton"...He was still a member during "Straight Outta Compton"... ::)
I'd call that a compilation. Straight Outta Compton is thier debut.
"Featuring Eazy E, Dr. Dre, Ice Cube, M.C. Ren, Yella, Arabian Prince, The D.O.C., Dr. Rock, The Fila, Fresh Crew, Ron-De-Vu, Fresh K, And More"
It's like give credit to Nas for QB's Finest.

Okay, where is this official list?
Go into any record store...Look in the "Artist" section...Look under "NWA"...That album will be there!! :D

What about the Beastie Boys? They don't have as many albums as LL but they have been dropping albums since 86 and everytime they do it's significant. 5 Boroughs was more significant than any LL album in the past couple years.

i was just about to bring them up, peace.

i dont like LL's new album.
btw, how many copies sold young buck in his first week? which was his best chart position though?
-
Newsflash: LL wouldn't have pushed 187,000 if he didn't have Timbo on the beat. That is a club song through and through. That chorus gets stuck in your head like a motherfucker. I don't give LL ANY credit for this song blowing up, its all timbaland. You could have put any rapper on that song as long as you kept the beat and that hook, it would be blowing up. LL figured the same thing out with 10. He had the neptunes do a couple of singles for that, and it resulted in sales.
I guess I shouldn't say I don't give LL any credit, he flashes his muscles and licks his lips every 3 seconds, and chicks dig that. But as far as his lyrical prowess, it ain't the reason.
Too Short has had several gold albums and 3 or 4 platinum. On the intro of get in where you fit in he says "5 nationwide, 2 gold, 2 platinum, and that was clear back in what 93 - 94?. Get in where you fit in went plat, I believe cocktails went plat. He's done his thing. Short ain't never had mind blowing lyrics, but he's put together dope albums.
