Title: Lil B - Angels Exodus LP
Post by: sncere on February 15, 2011, 02:04:58 AM
what do ppl think of this album?

i watched a couple of his music videos and they were fucking garbage. like the worst shit i've heard in ages.
but i just gave this album a spin and it's so different from those videos. the beats are real nice and chilled and his lyrics are better.

though i gotta say he doesn't deserve all the hype.

Lil B is the shit. People just don't understand that Based shit. To me, he's on some ODB level shit. What's good about him is that he can also be profound. Not the best lyrically, but he has his own style, slang, and approach. I respect that.

LOL. That's my point. He is trying to be serious. He wants to come off as a "serious" rapper & you find it funny because he's so bad.

Eminem used to kid around on songs earlier in his career. He didn't take things serious in every song & that's fine, but he was going for that "I'm just fuckin' around here".

If you haven't noticed by now, Lil B has a multitude of different styles and concepts for his songs. Sure, he has his ignorant songs like "Suck My Dick Ho" or "Rich Bitch". Do I see Lil B being serious with these songs? Hell no. Dude is laughing his ass off rapping these tracks on his videos. He does have some songs that are serious like "The Trap", "Age of Information", "The World's Ending", etc. I don't see anyone laughing about B rapping about taxes or poverty or other more serious tracks.

I shouldn't even be wasting my time typing up these responses when you've obviously written off the dude.

It's a lot easier to write off Lil B then to actually take the time and listen to the multitude of tracks he's provided for free on his YouTube. Sadly, his more ignorant fun tracks get more attention then his other material.

lol, bro. There is really no reason to take offense to people disliking Lil' B; you're looking at the West Coast Gucci Mane, just slightly more lyrical, but his awkward lisp thing almost cancels that out lol.

Take it from me, not everyone likes your favorite artist. ;)

West Coast Gucci Mane? Now that's just being ridiculous.

As Paul just said, why is everyone ignoring the great tracks just posted up proving Lil B can rap about serious matters without it being a joke? I hear a bunch of hating with no merit. Here's another track I would like to add as evidence:

^Like I said earlier about another song, it's not that bad, but it's not that good.

Not feeling that whole "I am the sky...I am the Earth..." for a solid 50 seconds.

You know people say "Lupe Fiasco isn't as deep as his fans make him out to be". This is very similar, just because he says he's different & he says he's deep, doesn't mean he is.

But since DIRTY ASS FANS said "If you want to listen to an old man crying" (aka Joe Budden shot), it's pretty funny that this song should be posted. Sounds pretty emo himself on this one.

Well considering most of the hate that goes his way is based off his beat selection & mixing (apparently the most important factor to making albums) & his lyrics are usually on point, I don't see the connection.

LOL, excuse the typo. & yeah, that's how you guys play it off. That's not an exact quote, but you clearly think he's good enough to the point where he has to be defended anytime somebody says something negative about him. You wouldn't do that if he was "pretty good" & people were just "overlooking" him; you'd just understand he's not everyone's cup of tea. Some people on this forum blow him up worse then I do Joe Budden. & from what I'm told, that's not a good look.

I'm just wondering out of aspects of Hip Hop what this guy brings to the table? He has an awkward flow. He slurs most of his words; mumbling some of the time. Lyrically...C'MON SON. I mean, I know I come off sounding like a hater. But that's what I've heard. What am I missing? What are you all hearing that I clearly am not? Is he one of those Lil' Wayne-like artists with a swag about him you find so fresh it attracts you to his music?

I don't have to because I can post lyrics. Post Lil' B's best verse & I'll post a "pretty good" Joey verse & I'm pretty sure unless Lil' B has something hidden, my verse will be far superior. But don't bother doing that. No reason for you to post some average ass verse & have these truly unbiased people give their opinion on to who is better. ::)

Because you guys bring him up a million times more then I would ever randomly bring up Lil' B. Look at this very thread, you clowns brought him up.

& defend Budden like when I said Saigon beat him in that little exchange of disses they sent to each other? Yeah, a real stan move there. ::)

The sooner you guys realize this little group in here WANTS to make me out to be some Joe Budden stan & that YOU guys bring him up, it's you guys being haters & I'm just defending my beliefs. What am I defending him over outside of me defending that he's a good artist? I do nothing more then anything that's been done here for Lil' B. But me calling you guys "stans" & "running to his defense" is blasphemous. ::)

You guys can say whatever you want about me to go out of your way to make me look bad, but don't all be hypocrites when you're all acting the same lol.

LOL. Riiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiight.

the only reason he hasn't owned every track was because Joe Budden & Royce are two of the best rappers in the game; i'd put them at 1 & 2.

Haha!  I like that you're a stan of Budden.  You can take the critics with humor and unlike most you aren't oblivious to other artists talent.

lol, thank you sir.

i try to stay unbiased as much as i can, but with Joey i can get a little crazy lol.

Budden is basically saying "I'm above all of you; you have to prove to me that your near my level, so get at me.".

i dont even have a problem with buddens like that i have a problem with being told why i dont like somebody by somebody else LOL

then have them argue when i tell um why i dont like him hahaha

LMAO, whose your favorite rapper though?

i bet your favorite rapper fits all those things (a,b,c,d,e) but he gets the slid because he isn't Joe Budden lmao.

Joe (& Royce & Crooked) >>> rap! 8)

He's got some dope songs but none of them are radio friendly.  I guess The Future is but it isn't that good.   I guess they're all too long and "too" conceptual for the average consumer.

i would make a bet if he dropped Exxxes on the radio 99.8% of the people wouldn't understand the concept behind it.

same goes for In My Sleep.

Joe just goes over people's heads.

There's nothing to get. I can make a song about something random, throw a couple related lines in and then tell you its really about something else. That doesn't automatically make it a dope concept record. If it fails to make sense that means it sucks as a concept record.

For example, let me use I Used to Love H.E.R. as an example. Someone might hear the entire song and not even get what's its really about til Common says its about hip hop at the end. But once he says that you'll go "ooohhhh" and everything will start to make sense and fall into place. Everything he has been saying will make sense as a part of the metaphor. Budden tries to make a concept record and even if he tells you what its about it still doesn't make any sense. That's why it sucks conceptually.

If I had to guess I'd say you probably looked up what the song was supposed to be about online and automatically assumed it was dope because "people can't understand it". But its not about being too complex for someone, its just there's nothing there to understand. How do you describe in detail how you met a girl and fucked her and then expect us to believe the girl is a metaphor for you? I can't see anyone besides a Budden fanboy thinking this is dope conceptually. And at that point I have to question your interpretation skills.

A "couple" related lines? The entire song is about himself lol. He hints that it's himself in each verse. I'll admit I didn't know it was about him the first few listens, but then the lines that hint that he's talking about himself didn't apply to it if it was about an actual girl, so I went back & when you put it all together, you realize it's about him. I don't see what isn't dope about that besides the artist that made the song. ::)

& while this thread too has spiraled out of control, I can make this point without getting too much further off topic then it's already gotten. As I said on DBA & earlier in this thread, Joe only comes up when you guys have to resort to bringing him up. I pointed out Lil' B is a pretty poor rapper & you guys RAN to bring up Joe Budden; pathetic. Now you're calling out a pretty dope song & acting like it's a stupid idea when we all know if Immortal Technique made the song, it could do no wrong & this is supposedly me being defensive lol.

Funny how this mostly happens during a Gucci or Lil' B related thread, showing how weak of an argument you guys have to "defend" (gotta love that word) them. Because that's what you're doing right? You're defending an artist you like? Sadly though, the method taken in this thread is bringing up another artist who doesn't relate. & if you don't like him, then you REALLY have no business being in this thread taking it that much further off the topic of B's LP lol.

Completely absurd. They should ban all discussion of Joe Budden's music on this & DBA's forum lmao. Then I'm the one whose "ignorantly, elitistly, absurdly-biasedly formulated an opinion" on Lil' B. ::)

I'm sorry do these lines make any sense to you if he's talking about himself???

Quote
She don't got a name so for now let's call her ashley
Had her gym clothes on, seen her when she passed me
Met her up at Exxon, her body was the nicest
Cursin up a storm, she complainin bout the prices
She just left Toronto, for Jerz bought a condo

Quote
Gave me the ass the first night, and I gladly tossed it
The best part was I aint have to ask for it
Her period dont ever come in, when i dick her down
She always runnin but she be callin my name

Quote
She like to scream so the neighbors might hear her
For some reason liked it in front of the mirror

This line makes no sense unless he's screaming and jacking off in front of a mirror. Which I'm fairly sure he's not intending to say.

Quote
I tap it, though she below my average it deceives me
She be talkin marriage sayin she'll never leave me

Too good for himself?

Quote
I be wantin to strangle her, throw her off the balcony
Dangle her, mangle her, how long have I carried this anger for
How come when we argue, we gotta get physical
we crucial conflict, she end up in critical
Habitual, happens daily like its her ritual

Okay I guess this quote could make sense if he's meaning to tell us he hits and chokes himself all the time.

Quote
Apologize for anything that she did
said without me, she cant think of no reason to live
said she'll miss gettin piped down

awww, he's gonna miss spanking his monkey....

Quote
she said i love you, and hugged me, took her pants off,
and proceded to fuck me.

I guess he's masturbating again? lmao fuck outta here

He's talking about his old self though, not like some current alter-ego self. Kinda like how on Eminem's "My Darling" he's talking to a voice in head that's the old Slim Shady.

You're taking each line in a super literal sense. Like the mirror line is just he sees the reflection of himself. The marriage line is how his old self won't leave him. The "choking himself" bars is how he hates himself.

The entire song is about him dealing with his past depression, how he acted like a bitch & how even though he fights with it & wants to get rid of that part of his life it always comes back & "fucks him".

Look man, I've understood this for quite a while now lol; you & a select few REFUSE to give Joe Budden props for anything at all; the message has been driven home time & time again. You have nothing to worry about. Given that Slaughterhouse doesn't make that much noise on Shady, Joe Budden will never get any props from a high majority of people. He will forever stay in that negative light that you guys so desperately try to portray him in; it's fine.

Its an extremely weak attempt at a concept song. Its not just literally, the lines don't make sense figuratively either. You can't talk about meeting a girl at a gas station from Canada and expect people to believe its about you. Budden's old self isn't from Canada. Nor did he meet it at a gas station. If I really have to do any more to show you how it fails then you're a lost cause. You clearly don't understand what makes great concept songs great in the first place. Its not about lyrics being "hard to understand." Its about them having a connection to the subject being expressed.

Joe Budden is a cool dude, but as an artist his voice and flow are so boring. I tried so many times to give him a listen, and although his lyrics are interesting sometimes, he's just not interesting.

Why is he constantly crying like a bitch? He became successful at age 23 and fucked some of the hottest women, why whine all the time? Is somebody in his family very ill? Or is he ill himself? Does he have financial issues? Was he abused as a kid? I just don't get it... I think he suffers from continuous ''weltschmerz''.

As for Lil B, he has some talent and is hilarious, but the nose ring and clothes he wears are really gay.

When I first listened to Lil B I thought he was garbage. After hearing some of his better songs I'd say he has potential. He can make some great music when he's focused but he's too inconsistent with his verses.

He's got some dope production behind him which also helps.
