Amazing on the first listen. 8)
-
Raekwon stays true, after first listen not close to OBFCL2 tho its very nice. Chop Chop Ninja is nice..
-
sounds great to me! 8)
-
threw it all on the iPhone... on my way to the gym now to give it a spin 8)
-
1. Shaolin Vs. Wu-Tang - 4/5. Not much rapping, but dope (typical) Wu intro
2. Every Soldier in the Hood - 4/5. Again, typical short, good Wu-Tang sounding song
3. Silver Rings - 4/5. I'm not lazy, but this song gets the exact same explanation as ^ lol
4. Chop Chop Ninja - 4.25/5. The beat is so dope; story telling raps here. That Wu-Tang/ninja feel. Estelle is a nice addition too.
5. Butter Knives - 4/5. Again, great example of that classic Wu Tang sound were used to hearing.
6. Snake Pond - 4.25/5. This one has a bit of a darker vibe; story telling raps again.
7. Crane Style - 4/5. Cool beat. Real short song; too bad; still dope. Busta killed it "throw 'em in the trash ain't no recycling bin for rappers" lol.
8. Rock 'n Roll - 4.5/5. Dope ass Khalil beat. Kobe on the hook as always baby. Great verses as well; Jim Jones surprises.
9. Rich & Black - 5/5. Dope beat. Love Sean C & LV production; part of the reason I loved Jay-Z's "American Gangster" album so much. Nas' verse is old apparently but dope as fuck. This is the albums best record and its no surprise.
10. From the Hills - 4.5/5. Cool beat. Raheem sounds really dope on here. One of my favorite joints thus far. Real dope.
11. Last Trip to Scotland - 4.25/5. Dope beat again. Rae flowing real calm & nice. Cool Lloyd Banks verse as well.
12. Ferry Boat Killaz - 3.75/5. Alchemist beat. Not my favorite on the album though; it kinda' bores me.
13. Dart School - 4/5. Great traditional Wu sounding track again.
14. Molasses - 4.25/5. Cool beat. Rae drops a dope verse. Haters must despise seeing Ross on here lol; I love it. His verse is dope and fits well. Ghostface was tight too.
15. The Scroll - 3.5/5. Solid record but at the same time seems forgettable next to the rest.
16. Masters of our Fate - 4.25/5. Real Hip-Hop shit right here. Black Thought drops a really nice verse too. Great record.
17. Outro - N/A
As usual, a great Raekwon album. He stays true to his sound as always. He knows what his loyal fanbase wants to hear and he always delivers. Another gem from the extensive Wu Tang catalog.
-
Hate the Jim Jones on this but apart from that this is the best from him since OB4CL 2... This is around that level...
-
^^^ I thought Jones actually came the nicest on that track with all his rock references, gonna have to give this a spin, last album was straight

Jones had the best verse on the track.
This is the album iv been anticipating this year. Glad im off work today to listen to this, Lupe and WC
-
great album, just a notch below OB4CL2 IMO
-
Album of the year by far.
Flows beautifully from track to track. Production is great and the guest features work really really well. That Estelle hook is 8)
4.75/5 as a whole for me.
My only little gripe is some of the tracks could be longer.

Let me guess, it's the same old usual wu sound people jerk off to yet criticize other artist for reproducing their same old sound record after record.
Sure it's good but stop gassing ya selves.

you just convinced me to check that saigon album, i hope you ain't trippin'.
-
I'll also be bumping Saigon's album a lot more than this one. Don't get me wrong, this is really fucking dope but it's same old Rae. Saigon finally puts out a debut album and has a lot to say. A whole lot more than Rae has to say at this point.
-
On 2nd listen now. Would of been flawless without "Rock and Roll". Breaks up the vibe

Rae never really had anything to say lol, 90% of his shit is coke raps, probably even more than that, he's just got a sick flow and he's ill with the pen

Should have been an itunes bonus track
I still love the track

the difference is it is still the same good hip hop sound while 90% of the other artists are reproducing the same garbage pop type of songs to sastify the radios ... that's a huge difference

Not really. You're just making excuses.
Note, I don't have an issue with Raekwon's music just his pathetic fanbase.
-

what artists in particular are you talking about? If anything its the rappers who aren't doing what they used to do who get criticized.
-

i agree fully and that's not just cuz of jim jones, I'm just not really feeling the song...but been bumping the album all day and its all around good fuckin' music
-
Six Spins in: Album is solid. I don't see too many people who don't dig this. Yeah it's similar to his older stuff (if you really need to criticize!) but like peeps have said: This is the sound they want from Rae. Just like WC's new album... Noone wanted to see him and Lil Wayne trading verses! They wanted straight up WestCoast G shit and they got it. Rae fans wanted 90s Wu sound and they also got it. If you don't dig this than you arent a fan or you think OB4CL is all he ever dropped... Dude still delivers in my books and I will be BUYING 8)
-
Good album only track I don't like is Rock N Roll - breaks up the flow of the album and the chorus is horrible.
-
crane style and the track with nas are ace :bandit:
-
crane style and the track with nas are ace :bandit:
Those two and the track with black thought are my top 3, album flows really well apart from rock n roll which doesn't fit the vibe. 3.5-4 album for me due to a lot of the tracks sounding like something Rae has done 10x before, which is also part of their appeal, just don't see the majority of this having much replayability.

Albums decent, more of the same. It's funny seeing people who hate on people like Ross and jeezy but praise this stuff. The subject matter and lyrics are on par with eachother

You do know who Raekwon is? Stupid post.
-
What's stupid about it? I'm well aware of who he is. I'm just pointing out the hypocrisy of people who act like wu and Rae are gods when they complain about other rappers who have pretty much the same lyrics
-
lol @ the heavy Wu backing in this thread.
Every other defense of every other artist is a "stan", but you can't be a "stan" of Wu..."that's stupid".
This forum never ceases to amaze me lol.

Wu is for the children. Budden is for the stans. Understand this principle and you will walk the path of enlightenment

I already posted the artists but you dumb mutherfuckas can't read.
Additionally, I have yet to criticize Raekwon's music. I just called out a hypocrisy that I often see when it comes to the Wu. I'm not the only one who sees it either.
-
The hypocrisy pretty much pertains to anything that came out in the 90s. I mean you have people critiquing slaughterhouse for not making sings but 85 percent of wu tangs group songs were just random verses thrown on a track together
-
You mean Jay-Z, 50, Joe Budden, Nas? I thought you meant you didn't buy their albums.
I've never heard anyone criticize those artists for keep the same style, because they don't. Nas gets criticism for NOT dropping another illmatic. Jay-Z gets criticism, well for being Jay-Z and staying current with the times. Joe Budden gets criticized for being wack, and 50 gets criticized for going soft and NOT dropping another Get Rich or Die Tryin'. None of those artists have tried to remaking their classic sound (well Budden doesn't have a classic sound) or been successful at it. I don't see your point at all.
-
great album, just a notch below OB4CL2 IMO

Wonder how long it would take for slaughterhouse to be brought up ::)

Except 50 didn't go soft, his music has been, with the exception of 10 or so tracks, the same. Again, Jay-Z switched up but when he does drop material that's in vein to reasonable doubt he's criticized (american gangster). If you think Budden is wack that's your problem. He's talented even if you don't like it.
-
People can't just admit they don't like certain artists, they have to label them wack for some reason. I don't enjoy certain artists say for instance redman but I recognize the talent, he's just not for me. People look for some reason to hate an artist to justify it but in reality turn a blind eye to thier preferred artist for doing the same thing
-

Listen to any complaints about 50 and it will stem from him dissing Ja Rule and then turning into Ja Rule. He's clearly changed, otherwise that's not what everyone would be complaining about.
American Gangster? What are you smoking? That album got great reviews. Way better than his previous and following album.
I'm not saying Budden is wack. I'm saying the people who dislike him think he's wack and have always thought he's wack. We're talking about getting criticism for sticking to a particular style that people used to love. Budden doesn't have a style that people love.
-
So what this boils down to is Budden stans hurt that people love a Wu album. Pathetic. That beef was ages ago. Let it go and move on. You take the L for showing your hurt feelings, just like Budden took the L with a chin check.

I can see your argument about each of the artist I picked and the weaknesses in my own.
Despite that, I still sense there's an inherent hypocrisy that comes form stannery when it comes to anything Wu related but perhaps it's only with recent material because it's a return to their original sound.
I'm more a 50 fan than Budden so when 50 created Before I Self Destruct and it got hated on because of his content, I can't but shake my head and laugh when those same people praise Raekwon for returning to the same old content.
Perhaps, they're not listening to the lyrics at all and just want to hear a particular sound.
-
I really liked Before I Self Destruct
-
now this thread has turned into a discussion about 50's albums
my point proven

. You were the one who brought up buddens name Stanley. People don't care what you love, Just the fact that your a hypocrite and a Stan. Feeling the need to label people wack just shows real insecurities in your opinion. If you don't like an artist just say it, don't make up a bunch of half baked critiques. " oh crooked I needs to grow and not just rap about gangsta shit" lmao then your in the next thread praising Raekwon , give me a fucking break
-
^hahaah now this tool's bringing up crooked I. I see where this is going. You Slaughterhouse groupies kill me. The beef is over, let it go. And wait until your favorite rapper drops a
decent album before you compare them to Raekwon.
-
Exactly, you have no argument. Your transparent as fuck.
-
I enjoy wu just as much, notice I'm not calling them wack. I just don't have false pretensions of what they are. your opinion is flawed, or you just love being a troll. Probably both
