Davids fails to make Dutch squad

Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Edgar Davids has been left of Holland's 28-man pre-World Cup squad by coach Marco van Basten.
 
Aston Villa defender Wilfred Bouma is also not in Van Basten's squad.

The Dutch coach has not said whether or not omitted players could be included in his final 23-man squad, which must be named by Fifa's 15 May deadline.

Bayern Munich striker Roy Makaay and AC Milan midfielder Clarence Seedorf are other notable absentees.


Holland 28-man pre-World Cup squad:

Keepers: Edwin van der Sar (Manchester United), Maarten Stekelenburg (Ajax), Henk Timmer (AZ Alkmaar).
Defenders: Khalid Boulahrouz (Hamburg SV), Giovanni van Bronckhorst (Barcelona), Tim de Cler (AZ Alkmaar), Kew Jaliens (AZ Alkmaar), Jan Kromkamp (Liverpool), Joris Mathijsen (AZ Alkmaar), Andre Ooijer (PSV Eindhoven), Johnny Heitinga (Ajax) and Barry Opdam (AZ Alkmaar).
Midfielders: George Boateng (Middlesbrough), Mark van Bommel (Barcelona), Phillip Cocu (PSV Eindhoven), Nigel de Jong (Hamburg SV), Denny Landzaat (AZ Alkmaar), Hedwiges Maduro (Ajax), Wesley Sneijder (Ajax), Rafael van der Vaart (Hamburg SV).
Strikers: Ryan Babel (Ajax), Romeo Castelen (Feyenoord), Klaas-Jan Huntelaar (Ajax), Dirk Kuijt (Feyenoord), Ruud van Nistelrooy (Manchester United), Robin van Persie (Arsenal), Arjen Robben (Chelsea), Jan Vennegoor of Hesselink (PSV Eindhoven).

i loved both of those players especially davids. who was so aggresive and never gave up on the play.

cause van Basten is an idiot, he can't do shit right
it hurts me to say it but Holland won't even make it through the first round

Stam stopped as international after the European Championships from 2004.

And yes, it's a shame that Seedorf didn't get another chance aswell as Davids. They could bring the required experience and balance out the team.

yeah its pretty surprising to me that Makaay and Seedorf arent in the squad...and yet they've got George Boateng in there, id much rather have Davids over Boateng...

Kluivert was more injured than anything else past season. It's logical he didnt got selected.
I think Makaay doesn't fit in the play style of Holland, which is powered by his appearances and goals for the Dutch team.(43 appearances, 6 goals)

I would much rather see Van Der Vaart, Cocu or Sneijder playing instead of Davids. Has anyone even seen Davids play this season? Look at how many times he loses the ball during a game.

And I laugh at people who even try to mention Kluivert  ;D I don't think he's played a full match all year. Nistelrooy, Huntelaar and Kuyt are better options on that position. Kluivert would be better than all of them if he was still in his prime tho but those days are long gone.

Seedorf: I think it's fucked up that he didn't even get 1 chance.

Makaay: doesn't fit into the dutch playing style at all and has also had a bad season.

Kluivert = legend since he's 18 = should be in the roster just for the fuck of it

I stick with it, just out of respect for what he has done he deserves a spot on the bench. It's not like all those 28 are going to play anyway. You should have more respect for vets.

Huntelaar should join the <21 team and play really good at the EC this summer. i dawnt want him to sit on the bench the whole WC.
