probably been done a million times, but which of these classics u like better? Nas' was more consistently dope but I think "takeover" had a section that was so dope, made it better than ether.
vote and discuss!
-
Oh god. Before the shitstorm arrives, I voted Ether. But both are both dope as hell.
-
I'm sort of a Doors fan so I'll go with Takeover for the beat alone.
-
nas killed 'em.
-
nas killed 'em.
-
Ether is my personal favorite its 2 grimey.
-
Ether! 8)
-
Both dope. But IMO Nas got him harder.

got that right! ;)
-
ether is what disses are compared too....not many will ever come close to ether 8)
-
Both are dope but I saw Nas do Ether liver at central park so Ether.
-
Ether.
-
Ether. I knew once I heard the 2pac sample at the beginning Nas was going to be on some other shit.
-
Really, to answer the question all you have to do is ask, now 7 years later do people say "you got takeovered" or "you got ethered"?

LMAO!!! +1
But yeah...only biased Jay fans will say that Takeover was better, even though it wasn't as focused on Nas. Jay did kill everybody at the end wit "you only get half a bar....f'k y'all n'ggas!!!" That line was harder than people realize just because a lot of cats were dissin him at the time, just hopin he'd give em a verse or song just to give them publicity...so he burnt them all out.
However....Nas won the rap battles, but damn...Jay f'cked his wife, became even bigger than he was in the rap game, and ended up signin Nas....so who won overall?

-
takeover!!!!! better beat imo
-
....because the beat is the most important part of a diss.
After Takeover, Nas made Ether
...after Ether, Jay cried on the radio and came back with "super ugly"... ::)
not to mention the main diss on jay's record (one was nahhhh and the other was illmatic...) was just wrong.
-
i always sorta prefered Takeover.
-
Ether is the better diss, Takeover is the better song.
-
Ether is the better diss, Takeover is the better song.
Couldnt agree more
-
Jay got at a lot of people on the Takeover and he went in harder on Prodigy then Nas. so the answer is Ether, and if you add up Stillmatic+Ether Vs The Takeover+Super Ugly, then Nas won by hundreds of miles.
-
the verse aimed at nas on take over>>any single verse from ether
but overall ether>>>take over
but blue print 2 was a hard comeback dunno why no-one brings that up when they talk on the beef...imo if jay hadnt dropped super ugly and dropped this instead he woulda won
-
"H to the Izzo,M to the Izzo" ;D
-
Ether is the better diss track. It's one of the best diss tracks of all time. Gay-Z was crying on the radio after Nas released Ether. lmao.
-
the verse aimed at nas on take over>>any single verse from ether
but overall ether>>>take over
Co-sign.
-
Takeover - Better instrumental.
Ether - Better lyrics & style.
-
voted: Ether
"Takeover" was good too though, but Nas murdered Jay with that song.
-
Ether! 8)
-
even jigga admitted in an interview on mtv that nas won the battle in the end but its only gon make him stronger.
Nas ether joint is legendary...both bangin but nas won hands down no doubt.
Poeple use ether as a blueprint for disses
pz
-
the takeover was a good shot but ether was murda
-

-
Takeover was hard but I am gonna go with Ether. Nas killed it with that!!!
-
Ether
I love the fuckin "Doors" sample on "Takeover" though.
-
Ether by alot for me!!!! Nas on his game is WAAAAAAYYYYYY better than Jay Z on his game IMO... This is an example of it!!!!
-
Both are dope but I saw Nas do Ether liver at central park so Ether.
you talking about that free concert he did a couple of summers ago?
-
Both dope. But IMO Nas got him harder.
Agreed.
-
One thing I agree with Jay-Z on, in one of his interviews about the whole situation was that only one verse was aimed towards Nas so it was kind of unbalanced. Who knows what could of happened if Jay-Z focused all his attention on Nas, before he got shook after listening to "Ether". I know he dropped "Supa Ugly", etc. but that was after he was shook. I mean he totally annihilated Prodigy cause that was his main target at Summer Jam, not Nas. It's a "what if", but all in all Nas won.
And HONESTLY, that was the LAST moment in Hip Hop that actually had me excited about Hip Hop again. It was the most important event since Pac and Big passed and Hip Hop hasn't been as exciting since.

co-sign, but on "Takeover" I also feel like there was more energy (that reflects on the beat probablly), and Prodigy basically got his career ended there as well haha
"Ether" still has the edge though IMO

Yea shit was crazy. Hot97 fucked up and didn't tell anyone it was a 3,000 person limit. Something like 10,000 showed up at central park. I got there late but I was by myself so I blended in and cut the whole line to get in. I was skeptical of going b/c everyone says Nas puts on a crappy show. But the energy he had the crowd had was crazy. When he finally came on stage mad cats that couldn't get in bum rushed the stage. Everyone moved 5-10 feet closer to the stage and the cops were about to shut the show down lol. But he had a lot of guest. Q-Tip, A..Z. , Mobb Deep, Busta Rhymes, it was crazy. The crowd exploded when Mobb Deep came out b/c everyone thought they were still beefing.

I agree with both these statements. This battle really was the last thing in hip hop that had me excited about the music. Shit is so watered down compared to a few years back, but these 2 were still on par.
-
this question can't be serious
-
"I rock hoes, y'all rock fellas"
...I'll leave it at that.
-

"we kill you mothafuckin ants with a sledgehammer"
-
Ether all the muthafuckin way. I mean, the Nigga Nas took apart Jiggas song, and responded to each part. Nas proving again that he's a story telling as nigga.
-
Btw, didn't Nas release an answer to Supa Ugly, called H to the Omo?
-
Takeover was the better diss to me, truer lyrics where as nas seemed like some playground micky takes cockafella etc.
Also better production on the takeover.
-
nas killed 'em.
-
"You tae-bo hoe" that line always cracked me up cause of Jay's line in "Girls, Girls, Girls".
-
not off either song but...
"your lil homie jungle is a garden to me"
always thought that was dope...

That came out on a mix tape after the takeover dropped and he only spit a couple of bars going at rocafella and didn't mention names if I remember correctly. I still remember when ether leaked. The album leaked two weeks before it came out on a sunday. And Kay Slay kept playing ether over and over. What happened to hip hop :(

that "freestyle" is called Stillmatic. and he went it on everyone on the Roc.
"rip the Freeway, shoot thru Memphis with Money Bays/
stop in Philly order cheese stakes and eat Beans fast/"
"itīs h to the izzo,mo the the izzo foshizzle/
you phony, the rapping version of Sisqo/"
