DPG DOES drop G-Funk tracks and it is one of the reasons I don't even pay attention to them dudes anymore. If Dre dropped a hyphy track you would probably bust a nut too. Dre dropped a G-Funk track, then yeah maybe I would "bust nuts over it(no homo)" as you put it. The reason: This is Dre we're talking about. Anything he touches is gold; you know it will be good. As for Snoop Dogg, hell no I wouldn't care if he dropped a G-Funk track. The reason I like Snoop is because he is isn't afriad to do something new. There is always something to look forward to, not the same old thing (unlike a dude like Daz or Kurupt).

people got the wrong perception of what the "movement" was. E-40 & BME were foolish to put that phrase up into the video. There are very few Bay Area artists who even do hyphy music ( E-40, Keak, The A'z, Sick Wid It, Mistah Fab ). If it was called the Bay Area movement, more attention would have been payed, even though the Federation did just sign a multi-million dollar deal with Warner. Groups and artists like The Team, Bailey, Ya Boy, Turf Talk, Balance, San Quinn, The Jacka and others are who should be having the attention put on them. The hyphy stuff is cool, it was just blown outta proportion because it was labeled as a movement, which is what it was never supposed to be in the first place. There are alot of diverse styles in the Bay, but with people thinking all they have to off is hyphy....then R.I.P.

BTW The Team sold 4,000 records in 2 weeks, not bad for an unknown group

I feel what you are sayin as far as callin it a "movement"....however, the Bay has a MUCH better chance of blowing up under a specific style or sound, such as hyphy is, versus just comin out with various styles. The reason people outside the west are interested in hyphy music is because it sounds different from a lot of the music out there. Most people in the south aren't really lookin to hear Bay rappers who are dope lyricists, or who sound similar to anything heard before. Basically, the only reason the bay, and the west have any attention right now is because of hyphy. One reason L.A. has been dead is because there are too many different styles coming out, and nothing at all is distinct.

And for hyphy bein dead, yeaaah right...it's just now startin to pick up steam. I am in Florida, and people are jockin the dances and "Tell me when to go" hard as hell. All it needs to build up and stay alive is a few more tracks to get pumped nationwide.

The problem is everyone is quick to try and categorize west coast music. When gangsta rap was big, the bay was benefiting also. But the minute something gets stale or does not make it big for a while (G-Funk, Hyphy or whatever else is cool not to like) people don't want to claim it. We as west coast fans need to stop doing that and try to support the music. That's all it is at the end of the day. Hyphy and G-Funk aren't gangsta rap and there is nothin wrong with that. Let it be. E-40 is still a westcoast legend in my book, no matter what his album does or doesn't do.

i just wanna know, what do you all mean when you say "g-funk" because i have a feeling that different ppl mean different things when they say it, like some ppl may think it's basically anything from warren g or old deathrow or anything derived directly from that, but other ppl might just mean any kind of melodic kick back west coast party music such as quik or battlecat.  i tend of think of g-funk as the former and as such, yeah it's dead but that quik/battlecat shit still has a chance in my opinion, even if it aint super poppin right now.

I don't look at Quik's current music as G-Funk. He once made G-Funk, but dude re-invents himself and his sound as the years go by. A dude like Battlecat or Warren G are making the same ass music to me, and that's played out ass G-Funk. I can say fuck G-Funk because, well, G-Funk hasn't been worthwhile for damn near 10 years now. I'm all for remembering the classics, but there comes a time where you just have to let go.

Houston has a different sound than they did 10 years ago. Miami has a different sound than they did 10 years ago. Chicago, New York, Philly, The Bay, etc. ALL have different sounds and their fans are loving it. But in L.A., switch your sound, you've sold out. You're not true to the West Coast. You're now wack.

Hyphy and G-Funk aren't gangsta rap and there is nothin wrong with that.

What?  G-Funk is pretty much THE definitive sound of gangsta rap.  Which isn't to say only gangsta rappers used it (Warren G wasn't that gangsta), but yeah, G-Funk mostly definitely = West Coast gangsta rap.

Houston has a different sound than they did 10 years ago. Miami has a different sound than they did 10 years ago. Real talk +1.  L.A. is still livin' like it's '95 and cats wonder why their records ain't selling?  It's cause they're irrelevent, why else?

Although SOME cats manage to re-invent themselves without being called "wack", Quik being a good example.

Mistah Fab is getting signed as we speak. 40 and Keak will be on 106th & Park PERFORMING "Tell me when to go" with the dancers from the video Today. The clubs are going KRAYZIE rite now with this shit, from the bay to LA to Daygo, ask anyone who's actually out there, like SGV above. You gotta be in the streets to feel the movement, you ain't gonna see it just because the E-40 topics died down on the forums. It's bigger than that, it's huge right now, the West Coast has to stand up cuzz we got something going here. LA has shown much love recently, look at this video from Long Beach for example:

It's different, from the culture to the dances to the slang to the swagger and the way everyone carries themselves. But at the same time, both sides enjoy each other's company. It's a beautiful thing and all you no life ass square bears that are criticizing it need to get slapped the fuck up because the sides JOINED forces, who the fuck are y'all to say anything about it? Look at the positives!!!! Federation gettin signed to Warner Borthers too, mann, we ain't even done with the appetizer of the movement!! It's bout to be summer time, shit is going down!!!!!!!!!!!!

man this is real talk right here dogg...the problem is that LA hasn't created a new sound that's all their own, all we've been doing is trying to make LA crunk music or rap on LA Kanye West beats and rap with that east coast jiggaman swagger...hyphy is blowin up cuz its a new sound and its particular to that region so its like they didnt bite off no one they made up their own shit, that's what we need down here not "rock the chain/ pop ya brain/ cop the range" fabolous imitators lol...

Yeah i dont see how that Hyphy shit is dead. Its just barely gettin started basically. Lil Jon was puttin out "Crunk" music far before it actually blew up on a national level. He was doin that shit down south way longer then 40, or anybody has been puttin out this Hyphy shit...and it took him a minute before it actually hit. If a year or 2 goes by and theres no word of Hyphy music...then u can call it dead. But for right now, u cant really make a fair judgement of it.

I love G-Funk and Gangsta rap till the death don't get me wrong. I used to be stuck in that if it ain't G-Funk/West Coast mindstate then it sucks to me like I see a lot of you are in. The Funk will be in me for the rest of my life. Any song that has a funk influence will immediately catch my ear before any other genre. But really though I have learned to not be stuck in a box with music at the same time. Hyphy is refreshing to me. It's about having a good time really, it's really uplifting music. It's not for everybody of course, but give it a chance and listen to a song by everybody that is doing it before you make your opinion because theres a lot of different hyphy styles. I can't be bumpin this depressin gangsta rap 24/7. I was at a party last night and they played Mac Dre Feelin Myself and everybody was having such a good time. Go put on Eazy E - Real Muthafuckin G'z and its not gonna get the party poppin like that.

you got it twisted, hyphy is way more than just one album, one artist, hell it even goes beyond the borders of music. that hyphy stuff is a way of life for alot of bay area people that arent even involved with rap. I personally am not too much into super hyphy styled music, but I respect it for what it is: music that will bring attention back to the bay and in trun, back to the west in general. As of right now, no new LA artists are making noise outside of Cali, while The Team, Fab, Federation and E-40 ( who is being looked at as a new artist basically ) are all getting the attention from the majors. Once these deals are in place, artists from the Bay will be able to put out music truer too themselves which is not that hyphy shit. Plus, for mainstream America, "hyphy" is a brand new phenomenom...Gangsta rap & Crunk/Buck rap didn't start doing crazy numbers right away, as for the rest of the nation they are just learning about the bay in the last few months. Maybe E-40 isnt the right artist to pick up major sales ( he still gonna do at LEAST 400K ), maybe The Federation, Ya Boy, Messy Marv or Mistah Fab will do it, it just has to take time. It's definitley picking up steam daily on the East Coast which is big, and E-40 had a song on NY radio regular rotation for the first time EVER. Theve been playing The Federation & Quinn on Hot 97, Keak Da Sneak & Turf Talk videos are getting spins on MTV2 & MTV Jams. This is something that is gonna have to take time, it could be over the summer, it could be next year. All Im saying is dont be so quick to dismiss something and call it dead when it really only just started breathing

You guys are dumb as fuck thinking Hyphy is dead. E-40 has sold 200,000 copies so far and his 2nd single which should be way bigger and appeal to a much wider audience hasn't even dropped yet. Keep hatin and living in the past. When a west coast rapper that isn't Snoop or Dre or Game outsells E-40 then you might have an arguement but until then shut your fuckin mouths. LA's biggest rapper at the moment is Game and he fucks with the Hyphy movement! You have no basis for calling hyphy dead when it's only got one album out so far pushin the movement on a national level. DJ Quik is smart enough to not do G-Funk anymore so take some fuckin notes little kids.

What kind of shit is that? Just because it's "westcoast" doesn't mean I have to like it or support it. I don't like country music so I don't go to shows or buy country cd's. This whole concept of "hatin" has been blown way out of proportion.

This has nothing to do with the hyphy movement. Personally, I haven't heard a lot of it to give an informed opinion but what I've heard hasn't impressed me in the slightest.

Not everyone is going to like something and it doesn't make them "haters". Labeling critics as haters is just an excuse to put out garbage music. It's funny how this work has gotten so prevelant in the last 8 years or so when wack rap like Puffy became popular. It was a good way to shut up legitimate criticism of wack music.

Hyphy Movement is the only thing in California really producing nething. You got Game and BlackWallStreet outta LA, and thats cool. but the only reason that started is cuz Game was signed outta Aftermathe and rapped with 50. But thats it. And Now you got a real genre of rap comeing and thats Hyphy. And yes there is some good rappers out of The Bay. The Pack, E40, Keak, Mistah Fab, Scweez, and RIP Mac Dre. And why is people talking about g-funk in a thread that says "RIP Hyphy movement"? GFunk is completely different than Hyphy. Hyphy Movement is just starting cats. yadadi.

O and im not saying game is the only thing in la cuz obviously hes not im just saying hes the only one outta la that people outside of Ca are listening.

alright 1
