With his fourth studio album, The R.E.D. Album, dropping this summer, Game is packing serious heat. The Compton rapper played it mellow, chopping it up with VIBE about his new project, the new West, Shyne and the return of the D.R.E
VIBE: What was the difference between working with Dr. Dre on the first album [The Documentary] versus this one?
I’m a lot more polished. I think that I’m close to my prime, as far as my lyrical content… just the development of my pen alone. And then Dre, you know, we’re both a little older and a little wiser. Now it’s not like polishing off the rookie, its like he gets in he knows what to do and I know what to do and he knows me and we just gel. What comes out is nothing short of classic.
Compare that to the Pharrell experience.
We worked for 40 days and 40 nights. Long hard nights, until the morning. Mind you, Pharrell leaves the studio at 10 [p.m.], that’s his norm. But working with me, you don’t leave til’ the sun comes up. We grinded it out and we made smashes, man.
If you were to put a tour together right now to support this record, who would be on it?
I think Dre’s talking about a tour, so that would be dope. And me and Pharrell talked about going on a tour together, which would also be dope. So I think just the benefit of getting up on stage with new music for my fans, it don’t really matter who I go out with. I can go out by myself and get the job done all the same. I just cant wait to grab the mic hit the stage and hear those cheers again.
Talk to us about working on that Detox album.
I’ll let you know that right now it’s definitely, definitely going to come, and Dre’s been working harder than ever. Everybody’s been in and out the studio. I’ve been in grinding with him, I’m going back in tomorrow to actually work some more, and get it to where we can all come to that happy medium where we’re like. ‘Damn, we finally got Detox and man it’s crazy.’ I can definitely guarantee you that however long he makes us wait—he can push it back for eight more years and it’ll just be that much bigger, man—’cause Dre’s not gonna put it out until it’s 100 percent the idea he had when he started, and hopefully he picked the dates. I don’t pick the dates but I just can tell you I’ve been working on it.
You talked to Shyne while he was incarcerated, and he gave you some advice. Have you had a chance to talk to him since he’s been released?
I had a chance to talk to him real closely since he got out, not about music at all, mostly just about his head and standing up and just checking up on how he’s doing. He’s just a good friend of mine, sort of like a brother to me in hip-hop and, you know, doing all that time, everybody expected him to just come out and be like the old Shyne, but it’s gonna take a while. I’m sure he’s rough around the edges. It’s kinda like if Kobe just decides to sit it down, and you come back out your first three, it’s probably gonna be an airball, you know? You just gotta give him a little room, a little space, let him breathe and I’m sure you’ll get the old Shyne back.

That’s him man, and I’m glad he can take that 50 Cent beef with him. I’m slowly but surely phasing it out, and I might poke a little fun here and there but for the most part I’m over it.
How do you feel about the new artists out West?
I think it’s just the evolution of the West. Everybody likes to talk about the “New West” and you sort of taint those young guys when you tab them like that. You gotta give them room to breathe and let them do their thing. The most prominent out of all the new ones, I think, is probably Nipsey [Hussle] meaning that he’s gotten around the world faster than the others, and everybody else is still regional, everybody else is still on the uprise.
Okay, let’s talk about basketball. I know you’re a gamer, not just a rec player.
I really play man I still go out there 3-4 days a week and shoot it out with my boys. You know we get it on Sundays with the offseason NBA players. Now that it’s the playoffs, players from the teams that didn’t make it are available to hoop with us. A couple of cats out there from the Clippers and—
You and Baron Davis grew up together, right?
Yeah me and Baron grew up together, me and Gilbert [Arenas] grew up together. Shout out to my boy Gilbert in the halfway house doing his time for the mistake that he made, but he’s gonna get back out and ball on them next year. I’ve been talking to him and we’re gonna send him some music so he can hold his head while he’s uptown and yeah we get it in on the court, and anybody can come on out.
What do you think about Kobe Bryant and the Lakers this year?
We good. I think I could see a Denver or maybe a Dallas getting a game on us, but everybody else we going straight through. We going straight through to the championship, and I think we might catch LeBron [James] this year, and that would be beautiful, ’cause everyone wants to see Kobe and LeBron this year. Everybody wants to see that, and you know we’re gonna win that. Ain’t got no beef with LeBron, he’s a monster, but that Kobe, man, he’s that Black Mamba not to be played with.

Fresh off the marathon track “400 Bars” Game shared details with XXLMag.com of his upcoming LP The R.E.D. Album and mixtape project The Red Room.
As previously reported, Game has been in the studio heavy with both legendary producer Dr. Dre and also Pharrell Williams. Game playfully shared with XXLMag.com that even though Williams has a more laid back recording style than Dre, he’s helped Game produce “over a thousand songs” to be used either on the album or mixtape.
Although the West Coast MC jokes excitedly about the project he’s somber in sharing that it’s almost ready to go and is full of features including 2010 XXL Freshman Nipsey Hu$$le.
“Nipsey’s all over the mixtape,” Game said of the DJ Skee-assisted mixtape. “Along with Canary, this [female] artist I’ve been working with and developing. Mad Max, Lil Wayne, Lil Boosie, Snoop, a gang of people on there.”
As far as a release date, Game says these things take time.
“We’ve just been waiting for the right time to drop the mixtape. You never know I might go into the studio and add some tracks tonight. But when I feel like it’s ready we gone put it out… It’ll be real soon though.”
The official release date for The R.E.D. album, however, has been confirmed. His fourth studio effort is scheduled to drop on June 15, the same day as Drizzy Drake’s highly anticipated debut Thank Me Later. The Doctor’s Advocate is not worried about the competition though.
“Drake hasn’t sold one record yet!” he says before mellowing out. “Naw but seriously, ain’t nobody going in the store and picking up Game album and leaving Drake and no one is picking up Drake and leaving Game. That’s how it is and it’s all love.”
Game also confirmed previous reports that the album will be released on Aftermath.
“It’s Aftermath, Black Wall Street, Star Trak it’s so many emblems on the back of that album it looks like a t-shirt,” he said.

^Straight up, why is everyone assuming that Shake is gonna be on the album? It was made clear that Shake was for Red Room. Just cause he shot a video to it doesnt mean its an album single. Dont you remember that 911 is a joke video? That was a mixtape track but they filmed a video to it.
But props on the thread, it is a lot more organized this way. I like that remark he made when they asked about Jay Rock, He made it obvious that if Jay Rock makes a diss towards him he would fuck his career up. Jay Rock may be a good rapper but hes not a polished as Game.

Yea he's not that much bigger than jay rock or g malone for example but his the first "bullets" mixtape dropped under 2 years ago & now he's one of the biggest "New West" artists. so he accomplished in 2 years the same which took Jay Rock 4 years.

Some good interviews there. I laughed at what he said about Drake being competition and about Dre not knowing about the filming at his house. And when they say that Pussy Fight track "was" on the album, you see how bad it really would have been if Dre/Aftermath didn't completely change the direction. I still don't understand the whole Aftermath situation though and would like to hear more on that. And Eminem is dropping right after this? Let's see if this all stays as planned.
And I NEVER look at twitter, but I was real curious if Jay Rock had anything to say about Game, and I saw this:

Haha, I have a feeling that there is going to be a direct jab at Game on that track. 100 Bars and running, thats a pun on Game alone, I cant wait to hear what he actually says. Now I am a fan of Jay Rock but I think that he is doing this because he is butt hurt. Remember a while back when someone asked Jay Rock on his twitter if he would be on Game's album? His reply was that Game hasnt returned any of his calls. To me he was looking for a reason to get at Game. Its obvious, then he starts talking about he doesnt need to be co signed by anyone and this and that, when in fact Game co signed him in that Blackwallstreet Journal time frame. But he acts as if nobody ever put him on. Why? Cause hes butt hurt. Game even put on K Dot. Jay Rock said that Game was gonna executive produce his album and everything, But I think Game may have lost faith in Jay Rock's ability to go mainstream and just stoped fucking with him. I get it, and if I were Jay Rock that shit would burn me too, but beefing with Game is not gonna advance his career, that shit may have worked back in the day but its simply looked at as a desperate move these days. Ever since the climate of selling records went to shit everyone started beefing with everyone to stay on top, people are tired of that shit.

Spider didnt get his career fucked up only because Game made him look stupid on 240 bars. Spider's career went no where because his music is garbage, nobody gives a fuck how much work you put in when you bangin, this is Hip Hop and if you cant make good music that people can ride too then your not meant to do this shit....Not every Gangster is meant to be a rapper.

Game Says Jay Electronica is His Favorite Emcee Right Now
When Game made his 2004 debut The Documentary, revered by many as a classic album, the Compton, California emcee told the now defunct Elemental magazine that he wrote the album listening to Jay-Z’s Reasonable Doubt, Dr. Dre’s The Chronic, Nas’ Illmatic and albums from Snoop Dogg, Kool G. Rap and Notorious B.I.G. These albums were reportedly a recovery gift from brother, Big Fase 100, as Game laid in a hospital bed from near-fatal gunshot wounds.
Speaking with HipHopDX Tuesday evening, the Aftermath rapper was asked what music he’s listening to this go-round, as Game records his fourth major label album, R.E.D. He cited several artists who have yet to release an LP as some of his favorite emcees of the moment.
“My favorite emcee right now, in the world, is Jay Electronica. I like what he got to say. I think he’s dope, and there’s a reason for that. ‘Cause he’s older and he’s polished, and he’s been doin’ it for a while now. That’s definitely the emcee that I’m ridin’ to the most. Anything he drop, I’m downloading it, throwin’ it in the whip, and it’s on.” Game also mentioned two younger emcees, leading the new class charge. “I like J. Cole, man. He’s pretty dope. Drake, of course, is on everybody’s radar, man. The kid, he’s nice. Other than that, underground shit. I’m always lookin’ – not to sign, but just lookin’ for who’s next, on a fan-level. I’m tryin’ to keep Hip Hop goin’, if only in my whip.”
With such an awareness of the musical goings-on in Rap, Game was asked if he actively pays attention to weekly store shelves from a fan’s perspective.
“The shit that’s hittin’ the shelves every Tuesday, that ain’t shit, man. I think the classic albums are the ones that we wait on, and the ones that you look forward to. There’s always people who have given you classic albums before, and they’re the ones that don’t let you down.”
As an established emcee embracing the trends and new voices of the culture, Game explained, “Hip Hop is Hip Hop. We all coexist – the dope rappers with the wack ones. The new kids with the skinny jeans and the niggas with the hoodies, we all in it together. I’ve learned in the last year or so, to not hate any aspect of Hip Hop. To embrace it all. Every time Hip Hop changes – ’cause it’s multi-faceted, change with it, but don’t lose yaself. You’ll find yourself running into less problems and frustrations in your own career.”
Game’s fourth major label album, R.E.D., is presently due June 15 on Aftermath/Star Trak/Interscope Records.

Game: Just so one day someone could ask me why, no reason. (laughs) “The” is like Dr. or Mr. It didn't really mean anything actually, I dropped it because I got tired of people calling me “The Game.” “Hey The Game how you doin?” (laughs) It looked good on paper, but I'm cool, its just Game.

Game: That ain't a game.
AllHipHop.com: Now for someone who is always saying your not beefing with anyone, your always going in on someone.

Game: Naw, he probably cares. I'm sure it affects him in some kind of way.
AllHipHop.com: So you just do it to antagonize him?
Game: Yea, you know kick him while he's down.

Game: Maybe not financially, but in rap, he's down.
AllHipHop.com: I guess its a little ironic considering he was trying to kill your career and all, how did you manage to come out on the other side?

Game: Man people don't understand, that's what it started as. He just got mad, he got a little jealous that Dre was working more on my album than on his but I didn't understand that because I thought we were all in it as one big bang, but he tried to kill me.
AllHipHop.com: So you really think that's what it was, he was jealous?
Game: That's what it was, I ain't gonna tell you no lie, that's what it was. So he came at me and I had to defend myself, my honor, my family and keep milk in the refrigerator as I call it.
AllHipHop.com: You know its funny to me some of the people you go at aren't just random rappers, you go at people who can pull plugs. So what's your kryptonite Superman, what makes you feel so untouchable?
Game: It ain't about feeling untouchable, I don't know it's just about how I feel after I brush my teeth in the morning I guess. But ain't nobody pull no plugs, we still here, we still doin it, but you know what it is? People. Like regular, normal, people really like me.
AllHipHop.com: Yea, because you talk so much ish and people never know what's gonna come out of your mouth.
Game: Yea, but I'm sure there's probably some other reason's, that ain't really no reason to like somebody (laughs) but people really genuinely like me cause I'm cool. Let's go with all the A list rappers that have sold millions I've met them all, and I've heard about people meeting them all and I'm definitely the coolest. I'm the chillest. I just be chillin.
AllHipHop.com: So far, so good you've been pretty cool to me. But you're not cool when your on a record.
Game: That's not the place to be cool.
AllHipHop.com: So how much of it is real and how much of it is just to entice a reaction?
Game: It's all real. It's all real. It all can be done. It all can happen. You never know but all it is is just life. Life should be taken seriously, but some people take life too seriously. You gotta chill. What's gonna happen is what's gonna happen. We all know that know that from a baby your mom changes your shi**y diapers, then you get older, then you get old and go back to shi*y diapers, then you die, so we know what's coming. So during the in between just do what you want. I'm not saying break the law and be an outlaw, but I'm saying just have fun with your life. Do what you want to do and that's what I do, I do what I want.
AllHipHop.com: Yes you do. R.E.D.S. What does that mean?
Game: It's re-dedication. I'm rededicated to my craft, my family, my friends, my music. It's not a new me, it's just like reenlisting in the army, you already been there, now its time to go back in and go to war. You know now i wanna go in and do another two year term.

AllHipHop.com: Why did you feel like you needed to be rededicated?
Game: Because after The Documentary I toured for years after that and it took so much out of me, it was unexpected. I was so new I didn't know the obligations were so much and when I used to be at home chopping up whatever I was chopping up, and doing whatever I was doing ,I thought you see a rapper in a video rapping on TV, you get a chain, you get some hoes, you get a car and you just pop some bottles and that's it. There's so much more that comes along with it that I didn't know about and took a part of who I was and it started to affect myself and how I felt about being a father. King wasn't born yet, but Harlem was and I felt like I wasn't there for him so I spent the last two albums after that trying to find a chemical balance between the two and I found it.
AllHipHop.com: I have to applaud you as a Black man for caring enough to take that time for your sons. How did you go about finding the balance.
Game: I just did it. I started doing less Hip-Hop and more of my kids and I was still getting enough work done to still co-exist with everyone else in this big thing called Hip-Hop. It's like every time I talk about my son's my tear ducts start getting all crazy on me because its such a sensitive subject for me my kids and their welfare and the things that I have to do to take care of them until they're able to take care of themselves, and then beyond that, I just do it.
AllHipHop.com: Now that being said, don't you think that's being reckless, and I don't mean to call you reckless, but some of the things you say can be construed as reckless if someone chooses to act on it.
Game: It's just saying it.
AllHipHop.com: Yes, but sometimes people cant handle you just saying something.
Game: Like who?
AllHipHop.com: I don't know, I'm just saying ,you could just walk down the street and say "What up blood" to someone wearing blue and that's just saying something that might spark a reaction.
Game: I'm not necessarily gonna do that.
AllHipHop.com: You might not do that, but having a lifestyle in Hip-Hop that can be perceived as kind of reckless, how do you safeguard your children against that?
Game: Harlem's 7 and still don't know I'm a rapper. I asked him my name the other day and he said "Jayceon," and I said "What's my other name?" And he said "Game," and I said "Why you think people call me that?" And he said, "Because you play video games a lot," and I was like "Cool, he's safeguarded." And then my oldest son, Wild child, he definitely knows but his days are the same, it's like Ground Hog Day, he wakes up and they go to school and I go to work, but my kids are in good hands, they're protected.
AllHipHop.com: So what about when they want to follow in daddy's footsteps be it banging or rapping?
Game: I'll do whatever I can to keep my kids away from the negative energy that the earth may provide when we come to it, but until then I ain't focused on that, we'll cross that bridge when we come to it, but they've lived a totally different lifestyle than I did so they gonna be some fake as gang-bangers cause you ain't from Compton, you from the Valley dude, I'll tell em right now (laughs) there ain't even no gangs where my kids are at, but they'll be good. They're not even going to be privy to the things that could render them helpless in those situations like Compton, you open the door and it all right there for me.
Game Defends G-Unit Jabs, Details Epic '400 Bars' Recording
Game said his “400 Bars” 20-minute freestyle was probably his single most epic undertaking ever.

“To even think about doing ‘400 Bars,’ you need a lot of patient people in the studio with you,” Game said earlier this week in L.A. “I had my whole team in, my whole crew. We was in the studio, the same studio. We were here for a day, 24 hours. Nobody went home, nobody ate, nobody brushed their teeth — we just grinded it out. It came together. I stayed in the booth for a little bit over eight hours, on my feet. At the end, I felt paralyzed. It just took that much out of me. It felt like I got jumped by 30 people. That’s how much it took to do ‘400 Bars.’ I don’t advise anybody to try to do it or top me. Not that I think they could. It’s a long process. Then, you have to keep people entertained for 20 minutes. You can’t just spit something and it not make sense. Piecing it together was crazy. But I did it, and the response was pretty cool.”
“The next day, I dropped it on the Internet, and I slept until maybe like 9 p.m.,” he said. “I went to the blogs, everybody was going crazy for it. So I went back to sleep.”
You know there’s no way Game could have unleashed “400 Bars” without some sort of controversy. Jay Rock wrote on Twitter that people felt like Game was throwing subliminal jabs at him.
“I get on Twitter n everybody hitting me sayn @ihategame getting @ me in his freestyle,” Rock wrote. “Same as Cube, n—as need to have ba–s to say names.”
“I’m not scared to go against nobody all n—a have to do is say my name and it’s on with who ever. I don’t feel I need to apologize to no1,” he later wrote.

“You’ve gotta understand the difference between G-Unit [jabs] and a beef,” Game explained. “It was a beef [years ago]. I see 50, nobody is gonna do nothing to him. He sees me, nobody is gonna do nothing to me. It’s over with. The beef is over, but I can still throw a few jabs here and there and poke a little fun. Ain’t nothing wrong with being a comedian of some sorts. That’s all it was. I say maybe eight or 10 bars out of 400. 390 bars about other sh–, and 10 bars worth of jabs ain’t gonna hurt nobody.”
Producer the Alchemist was one person who didn’t applaud Game’s efforts. Al took to Twitter to give his “400 Bars” review. “400 bars=snooze. Less is more,” Al wrote.
Game responded on his Twitter page by writing, “@AlanTheChemist you already know me ALAN, don’t get ya teeth knocked out !!! then you can Snooze 4 real!”
Al continued the back-and-forth with a sarcastic response: “I just got jumped by 75 bloods at the 7-11. thanx alot @ihategame. Twitter is powerful!”
“He responded like he was supposed to, because he’s a G-Unit affiliate,” Game told us. “I responded like I was supposed to: the first thing that came to my head. I was serious about mine. He can take it lightly if he wants, but stay outta my way.”
Game is finishing up his R.E.D. Room mixtape with DJ Skee. Lil Wayne, Hurricane Chris, Jim Jones and the Birdman all appear on the project.

I think it’s just the evolution of the West. Everybody likes to talk about the “New West” and you sort of taint those young guys when you tab them like that. You gotta give them room to breathe and let them do their thing. Since releasing 'LAX' in 2008, Game, has quietly watched California reclaim hip-hop's attention. With his DJ Skee mixtape, 'The Red Room,' dropping today and his fourth LP, 'The R.E.D. Album,' slated for release on July 15, the MC chatted with theBVX about working with DJ Premier, Dr. Dre and Jay Electronica.
Tell us about your new project, 'The Red Album.'
'The Red Album' has crazy production from Dr. Dre, Cool and Dre, and I'm trying to get DJ Premier, too. He said he's down, but he's mourning Guru's death right now, so I am trusting his word. I've also worked Polow Da Don's Hitboyz, Swizz Beatz, and me and Jay Electronica hit the studio last night.
Will the Jay Electronica collaboration make your final track list?
Hopefully it'll survive my sequencing drive. I always drive up to Northern California and back to L.A. on Highway 101 when I'm picking my songs for my album and their sequence. I'm a car dude; the biggest songs in my career were written in my car. A studio's walls can close in on you, but driving, you can see everything around you, and i just get it off.
Are you shooting a video for your first single 'It Must Be Me,' which is produced by and features Pharrell Williams?
We shot the video last Saturday and Decon directed it. They've done most of Jay Electronica's stuff.
How did you link with Jay?
He just randomly popped up in L.A. and we went into the studio. Originally, I had studio time, but then I had to record for Dr. Dre, so Puffy and Swizz Beatz crashed my session. When I got back, Swizz did a hook, then Jay did a verse and killed it. Jay tried to be humble and tell me, "You bodied me," but I wasn't having it. The things that come out of his mouth are crazy. I haven't heard anyone spit like him since Nas.
You're working with Dr. Dre again must feel like a homecoming.
Dre and I have always been cool. I was wildin' during my last couple of albums, so I can understand why, at 40 years old, he didn't want to be a part of that, so he stepped back from the music. Then earlier this year, he called me while I was watching a Lakers game and said, "You wanna work?" Dre is like the Wizard of Oz and working with him is like college and you have to be ready to go to school.
Speaking of legends, Ice Cube recently released 'Drink the Kool-Aid,' which many think attacked new Cali rappers Jay Rock and Glasses Malone. What's your take?
That's Ice Cube. He pioneered West Coast hip-hop, if it wasn't for Ice, I wouldn't even be rapping. I respect his opinion on the West, and all of the new cats have to pay dues. I understand the new rappers want fame, but not by going at Ice Cube. It ain't worth it.
You seem more mature these days, what gives?
I've been mature, but when there's heat, I just don't give a sh*t. Right now, there's no beef so there's no drama. I'm spending time with my sons, who are 7 and 3-years-old, and making this album. What you see as maturity is really just me calm.
So you've officially made peace with 50 Cent?
Me and 50 don't have any beef. We went through it; I came out on top, and if I say anything it's just me poking fun. It ain't like 50 Cent has much of a rap career, but he does have tons of money, so I'm sure he's off doing whatever rich people do. But I'm a rapper, so I'll be here for awhile.
Finally, is Dr. Dre's 'Detox' LP really coming out this year?
With Dre you never know, but I do believe that it's coming out in 2010. Now it might be on December 31, with five seconds left until 2011. I've heard a lot of stuff from 'Detox,' and I guarantee that whenever it does come out it'll be incredible.

XXLMag.com: What’s going to be different about this album?
Well, overall I just feel like it’s my best work to date. I’ve sold millions of albums; I don’t really have anything to prove to anybody or anything so I’m not looking for that. But I think people will listen to The R.E.D. Album and see all of what I put into it.
You have a lot of high profile guests lined up. Who were you most excited to work with?
Justin Timberlake. The song I did with him is probably going to be a single. It was amazing to get a chance to work with him. Jay [Electronica] came through and did a verse at the spur of the moment. We missed getting Nicki [Minaj] on there. Things just didn’t come together for that. I wanted her on there, though.
How was it working with Dre and Pharrell in the studio together?
It works well. I worked with Dre on a few songs and Pharrell is the executive producer of the project. He did the bulk of the tracks. Cool & Dre is on there, too. They did “Shake.” You’re gonna get [Swizz Beatz], The Hitboyz, and Timbaland, too.
How is it different working in the studio with Dre than Pharrell?
You just work and work and work with Dre. You don’t even know what you’re working on. (Laughs) But he’s a perfectionist and I respect his work ethic. He’s a legend. With Pharrell we laid back, ordering pizzas, chillin’, completely different but we still get shit done because he’s a beast, too. With them having my back, I can’t go wrong.
How many songs did Dre produce on this album?
I have no idea. I’m not sure which songs will be on [The R.E.D. Album] yet. We just worked on a gang of shit. Altogether there were like a thousand songs recorded for this album. A thousand! I got songs for days.

People just hyping shit up. [Al] know what it is though and with Jay Rock, to be honest, I didn’t even know that that was Jay Rock that had even said the Cube thing. So when I said what I said on the track I wasn’t thinking about him specifically.
What do you think about what Cube was saying like, basically that it’s not his responsibility to put anyone on?
I mean, do you think it’s his responsibility? Because I don’t think so. People have to pay their dues. I paid my dues and they gotta do the same.

Game is lacking direction with this album, that's the reason it won't come close to The Doc or DA. He has recorded over 1000 songs for it? And if you check his twitter, he still hittin niggaz up to get features... Game just got lazy with this "support" that he's got from Dre/Phrarrell e.t.c... he's better off as an underdog like he was 2006 when he had to prove he could do an album himself.
