It certainly helped turn the WWE around. Bret Hart played a big role in all this though. He first made Austin a main event star with his pair of matches with him and his heel Canadian gimmick helped make Austin the number #1 baby face in the company. I think we could have seen a Bret Hart/Steve Austin Wrestlemania 14 if Steve never got injured in the Owen match. But who knows. Regardless Austin was the reason WWF turned around and this was his coming out moment.

What I have to mention is that one month before this on May 27, 1996 Scott Hall walked out on Nitro and teased a WWF Invasion of WCW. The following 5 Nitros were filled with great Hall and Nash moments that really made the new era of the cool heel, which was topped off with the huge turn of Hogan at Bash at the Beach two Sundays after Austin made that great speech, but after the Hogan moment Nitro beat Raw by a full rating (3.5 to 2.5) and Nitro had already taken the lead during the Hall/Nash invasion.

did you know that Orignally it was Supposed to be Sting that was the third guy at Bash at the Beach 96?

I would say that this was. But what cemented it was the Bret Hart match at WM 13. CLASSIC. the fact that the guy NEVER tapped out, bloodied and shit and flipped off Shamrock when asked if he quit.....PRICELESS.

no one had ever done no shit like that.

Steve Austin became Stone Cold to me at WM13. IMO

debatable, if there was no Stone Cold the WWE would be way diff, Stone Cold had a much greater affect on the world of wrestling

Shallow is right. Without Bret Hart, there would be no Stone Cold. Before he left the WWF, he put Austin over big time. That WM 13 match will always be in my top 5. Just an amazing match.

That whole era was incredible. WWF began to put out a great product. WCW making history with the nWo. ECW was a great alternative.

Yeah I know. It was going to be any number of people. No one realy knew who the mystery guy was going to be during the Hall/Nash angle. I even heard they were trying to see if Bret would leave the WWF and come over. Either way, the best possible situation happened with Hogan. The problem was they didn't end the feud or angle. They just kept it running until people got sick of it, and then they let it run one more year. Hogan and Nah are more responsible for the downfall of WCW than anything McMahon could could take credit for. Near the end the writers made it suck but they were playing from behind and getting desperate trying to catch up to WWF.

true, he was gonna sign with WCW in mid 96 for a FAT SUM, but McMahon made a nice offer for 20 years, not as much money, but longevity and it wasnt about Money To Bret he just wanted to stay with WWF and he was still a top draw so McMahon had to do what he could to keep him. Then Late 97 he left, once McMahon let him out of his contract

Bret would have been willing to work something out according to all acounts, but Vince was telling him to take the WCW offer. My theory for years now has been that Vince pre-planned the Montreal screwjob from the moment he decided he didn't want Bret anymore. The only variable not completely in Vince's control was Bret deciding he didn't want to lose in Canada to HBK, but having HBK tell Bret that he'd never job to him may have been enough to know that Bret wouldn't job either. I'm convinced Vince knew exactly what was going to happen and wanted publicity. He uses the "I couldn't risk my champion taking my belt to another show" excuse just to add to the controversy. As smart as Vince is he wouldn't tell his champion that he wasn't going to keep him and had to let him out of his contract until the belt was already off him. And Bret could have just as easily taken the belt from HBK after he beat up Vince and showed up on Nitro with it (something he should have done). That's what I think anyway.

Dude that Scott Steiner gif is hilarious!  Plus you had that one earlier with him slipping off of the mat when he was jumping out of the ring for a double axe handle or whatever.  Shit is fuckin dope.  WTF is up with Scott Steiner?  I'm sure his heart is gonna explode soon.
