Do you know which track(s) he produced?
-
I'm surprised and blown away by how clean this sounds. I have a feeling these tracks sound so much better than the other stuff WideAwake has put out because they probably had final mixdowns (and possibly even mastering) done back when they were recorded because this album was completed and ready to be released. The majority of the other stuff WA has put out were obviously incomplete tracks, hence the bad mixes.
I seriously don't have a single complaint about this album other than that there's a few (already released) tracks that aren't on there. I'll have to recompile it with those other tracks but that's no big deal. WideAwake only fucked up on the promotion with this one. No disrespect to Sneed but it's common sense that between LBC Crew and Sneed that they should have put more money behind the LBC Crew project. They very easily could have promoted it as unreleased Snoop Dogg.
Very few albums (let alone unreleased albums) that were made over 15 years ago could sound this dope in 2011.
-
my dude said it was a dream lmao, then someone said hes buying a copy for the bedroom.
the other guy said it gave him a boner...all i can say is wow.
it was nice to hear this shit properly mixed and mastered though.
-
shocked at how great it sounds..didnt think the mastering would be this good. :o
-
I hope all WIDEawake releases will sounds this good (sound quality wise) from now on. Had this shit on repeat for hours. 8) I also hope they continue putting out albums every month.

I like how it turned out. I also think it's kinda cool how Snoop wove in little clips of it into Tha Doggfather. If they were put out right after that album it would've been a really good year for Doggystyle Records because IMO their sound was rich and funky, but also distinct. It wasn't just your basic G-Funk ripoff that so many no name artists and labels had at the time.
That's what every successful label has - a distinct sound so people can tell it's them.
And the first Eastsidaz album also had a similar sound so I kind of see all three albums as a trilogy - Tha Doggfather, LBC Crew and Tha Eastsidaz. After that, Snoop and Doggystyle abandoned that sound to start following trends.

maybe if snoop had stayed on death row the trilogy would of been doggfather, lbc crew, doggumentry.
cant blame him for leaving.

lmao at the overreactions here..alot of these r the same old bootleg q mp3 rips that ftp would have.....some of the songs were lower volume than others which means the album wasnt mastered right or at all..(which i fixed..hate playing a cd then having diff volume tracks)...one of the songs right in the middle of the cd is a radio drop for 92.3.....
...all that being said its a cool little compilation to have
-
cant believe it but Wideawake did really good job on this one ;D When that 19th Street compilation is droppin?

Was wondering that too. It's less than a week, but I haven't seen any pre-orders for it. I hope it didn't get pushed back.
-
now that's the shit that give me flashbacks...damn...how time flies...
too bad that i'm not allowed to blaze one, at the moment... :'(
-
The "Out the Moon" Remix is noticeably different than the radio rip we had before, mainly the chorus... Sucks they couldn't secured the rights for "Beware of My Crew" and those two tracks that were on The Ultimate DR Boxset should have been saved for this project instead. Nonetheless an outstanding release. Kudos Wideawake.
-
No way this release would have gone platinum in '97. Gold maybe; at most it may have sold 600-700k copies if released 14 years ago. But given how big Puffy was getting (by taking advantage of Biggie's death), no way this would have been a mainstream success.

95/96 this woulve went multiplatinum without a doubt

Everybody should support this release and go pick a copy of it on February 8 so WideAwake can fix what they had already fucked up and give us more of that classic Death Row shit 8)

That's true, however it wasn't on the docket for '95, and '96 was dominated by 2pac's two albums and Snoop's second album. It would have been a '97 release date at the earliest.

Just listened to the album in its entirety a couple times… gave it another day and listened again with fresh ears. Here are my thoughts:
This is a really solid album. I’ve been a hater on WideAwake because they’ve sloppily released every single project they’ve attempted and I refuse to buy anything in the unprofessional condition they’ve released these records in… and don’t get me wrong this album is no exception. The post-production quality here is on par with WideASPEEP’s M.O. which I’m convinced goes something like: “1) grab the records from the vault. 2)Make sure not to listen to them or do any type of quality check what so ever. 3) dunk them directly in toilet 4) send them off to be pressed.
Upon first listen of the record you can tell it wasn’t mastered—no question there. The mixing however is a lot better that we’re used to with these WA releases. This has absolutely NOTHING to do with wideawake mind you, it’s indicative to how far along this project got within Death Row at the time. It’s clear the album was about 80% mixed (some songs aren’t mixed down well/may only be “show” mixes) and ready to go off to be mastered if Suge wanted to pull the trigger.
The beats and rhymes are great; classic 96 sound. Had this album dropped back then it would have been cool but nothing groundbreaking. It is really fun to hear it now though.
Quality issues aside the good news here is the music sounds great and I can do the mastering anyways … which I’ve already started and it sounds f%$king phenomenal. Many of you heard the Nate Dogg album I did a while back and this is going to sound equally good.
Stay Tuned!

I agree with you. As I stated earlier the good quality is due to what happened back in the day, not today. I did notice some low volume levels but figured I'll just be happy it doesn't sound as bad as the other releases. Looking forward to your remaster. Make sure to include the tracks that didn't make the album please!

Yeah, I know what you mean about the sound quality. Unfortunately, I have a feeling that the sound quality on these projects will probably continue to be spotty at best with the people who are currently in charge. At least with this album though, they exercised good judgment over the track selection. I'm not nearly as selective as some when it comes to sound quality, because I just don't have an ear for it. But I do get pretty frustrated with the tracks Wideawake often chooses to put on their albums. With this album though, I have no gripes. I think this is probably the best thing they've put out, so far. I'm glad to hear people saying they're going to support it too, because if this sells substantially better than their other cds, maybe Wideawake will get the picture that this is the way we'd like to see future projects handled.

Definitely. I planned on putting Six Shooter and Doggystyle '96, are there any other ones I’m missing?
I put "Who Got Some Gangsta Shit" from MWTC, "Droppin Bombs" from The Show soundtrack, "I Will Survive" OG version, "Gang Bangin Ass Criminal" from Daz's RRGB, "Gold Rush" from Tha Doggfather, and "Beware Of My Crew" on my burnt copy.
Anyway, classic material on this album. A couple complaints, though: 1.) On "Jacca's Reunion", wtf is up with the phone ringing constantly throughout Technique's verse??, 2.) "Six Shooter" is better than "One 213", imo. Seems like they remixed that into "Six Shooter" which sounds better to me, 3.) "Flossin"" beat sounds a lot like "Who Got Some Gangsta Shit". I like both songs, though. Props to WideAwake for putting out a quality release and working with what they have here.

this shit sounds like the perfect companion album to dogg food...listen to them back to back shit flows seamlessly.
real nostalgic vibes.
personally im greatful for wideawake giving us this lil peek into the vaults...but i cant lie some of that shit was a lil disappointing that they have dropped.
very poor mixing mastering and sequencing with that said with out them doing what they did we wouldnt have heard ANY of that shit...it takes me back to the days when the FUCK DEATHROW tape by snoop dropped...the quality was fucking garbage but niggas was just so happy to have some new doggy dogg they didnt give a fuck. same with the makaveli bootlegs that came out summer of 97 imo we are all spoiled by the internet and bitrates and shit.

But people PLEASE buy the album if you like it...

Agree on that comment, I was thinking that same thing. This shit is classic I had to download it, but I will be buying a copy if I can find one, I hope places got it in stock.
I added Beware of my Crew, 6 Shooter & Doggystyle 96 and then moved the songs around, the beinging i used the same tracklist as the advance notes that have been floating around for a while.
Im really diggin Doggfathers Diciple, classic vibe to it, similiar to 6 Shooter. I just wish it was a whole song and not a radiodrop, when the singing hits in at the end u could tell it would have been a hit. Finally glad to get Jaccas Reunion in good quality.Gangsta & Feels Good 2 Be DPG are good songs too.
I think Havnt You Heard= Intro 2 Indo, its just been renamed.

I'm sure WideAwake know that the LBC Crew album won't outsell anything by those artists. You just want each release to do as well as it can and they will keep releasing more.
Just wish people would be happy this stuff is coming out at all. I've had MP3's of these tracks for approx. 10 years so it's amazing to have them released in great quality after all this time. I'm not looking to analyse the fuck out of each track or expect HD sound. Just enjoy....

ur right. Those crappy rips floating around the net for the last few years were great. The mixing and mastering on those was pretty much top notch. In fact I went ahead and deleted my WA version of this album and will just continue to listen to the old rips that I have had. Excellent point man.

dont see the pouint, wit rearranging the tracklist for the LBC Crew-compilation like this and labeling it as the"original album"..
this isnt the compilation in its og-form..
the compilation basicaly turned in to a "compilation" :P
preciate the new additions, but they couldve just added that stuff as bonus-tracks.

Then don't cheer. That just means you are not a huge fan of the LBC Crew. For instance, so many people on this forum are highly anticipating Detox, but I on the other hand have zero anticipation for it. Nothing wrong with that.

I like tha album. I think it's tight! Snoop Dogg was doin' things on his own along with a great collaborator with Big C-Style. Tha LBC Crew album is a good release. This would have been cool if it was released back in 1995/1996. Oh yeah, according to those at Wideawake/Death Row: "You guys with conspiracy theories need to chill. This release was mixed mastered and on CD from 1995. Literally all we did was take it out and remove beware of my crew and 6 shooter (since it was on the boxset) and put on the Out The Moon [Daz Remix]. Anyone who thinks we mixed or mastered any of this is sadly mistaken. This release wasn't almost complete back in 95, it was complete in 1995. Mixed mastered and sequenced."
-

That's the one flaw of this release -- why did they go out of their way to remove BOMC and 6 Shooter? Just leave them on there. So what if it was on your box set. What, they can't be on both releases? Or are you using those two tracks to try to persuade people to buy the box set? I'll probably buy this official release, but I'm looking forward to homie's remaster here on DubCC that includes those two tracks. Pisses me off that they actually REMOVED tracks.

Why the fuck do people keep asking why Beware Of My Crew isn't on the album? This has been answered a billion times. Legally WA cannot use the track because another company bought the rights to it when it appeared on the Soundtrack to A Thin Line Bewtween Love & Hate.

well i think their motivation is funny, as they didn't have problems putting previously released songs on the new releases.

Ok, thanks, but that only answers half the issue. What about 6 Shooter? Putting Doggystyle 96 on there as a bonus cut would've been appreciated, as well, even though I can understand them leaving it off if it wasn't on the OG album.

They are sorely mistaken.
I don’t know what’s more frightening…. that they are so disorganized they don’t know this isn’t a mastered release or that they are so incompetent they can’t discern with a quick listen that this isn’t mastered. And they’re wrong about it being fully mixed, the lack on de-essing on several songs is a dead giveaway. Fully mixed by the recording engineer maybe to demo to the label, but not mixed by a pro like Tommey D or someone for worldwide release… the way Death Row would have done it.
I could show them 100 examples of what I’m talking about but all they really need to do is go to a record store, buy the gridlocked soundtrack, play “Out The Moon” then immediately play the same song off this LBC Crew album. Hear the difference? That’s what you call professional mixing and mastering.
I can’t fault Wideawake completely at this point, they have tried. The problem is they just don’t know what they’re doing. They did master that Snoop album but the problem was the songs weren’t properly mixed prior… so it still ended up sounding horrible.
I’m going to have this album professionally mastered and posted for download here on the site (after the album is released) then we can talk about it. I may even send it to them and if they like it I’ll work for free.
-
did you ever remaster the snoop album? if so i need that
-
I mean, I totally understand why they didn't include those two songs. It makes sense, I just would like to know where they would have been on the tracklist. I can't complain, we offically now have all of the tracks that made the final cut for that album. It's not a bad album. Wideawake/Death Row are really tryin' to give the fans what they want. It's a tight album. I just wish that the Sam Sneed project was all of the original material from 1994-96 era and maybe include the new stuff as a bonus disc or for a later release.
-
So can I get this from Best Buy? I don't see it on their website or in their weekly ad... I guess I'll just have to go there in an hour and a half.

Looking forward to this. On a second listen I noticed the volume levels were way low. And ya the mixing wasn't perfect either BUT I'm just thankful this album made it as far as it did so that we wouldn't get another WideAwake release that sounded like ass. That's funny they are claiming that it was mastered in 95 because I remember seeing WA advertise this album as being REMASTERED. Well it looks like it wasn't mastered then or now. They're pretty bad at lying. I'm done bitching though, I'm happy with the quality we're getting and am optimistic about what Efrain can do for the album.

I am really looking foward to your version! I was going to do this myself as the bass sounds horrible for most of the songs, overall sound is flat and bass is real hard. I was kind of surprised as the doggystlye 96 and 6 shooter sounded much better to me, I figured they would at least be on that level. anyway, like everyone esle, I'm just glad we finally have this classic material in our hands. if it wasnt for WA we'd never gotten the chance to clean it up and make it sound good hehe...so I support them...
-
Dope album, def agree it would have gone platinum back in '96...idiots.
I got this on iTunes were there any liner notes or anything with hard copies? I wanted to see production creds and sheiiiit. Can anyone hook that up?
Too bad there weren't a few more unheard tracks though but I guess some got effed up by Lil C Style.

Well, unfortunately it wasn't at Best Buy... I figured it wouldn't be, but it wouldn't hurt to check.

I probably wouldn't have noticed this until much later had you not mentioned it, but I agree. I've really given up any hope of a properly mixed and mastered WIDEawake release at this point. I'm just gonna have to change my perspective I guess and just be glad they are releasing material that is of better sound quality than the bootlegged/ leaked stuff and tracks we would have never heard at all if it weren't for WA.

I'll have it up by Tues or Wednesday of this week. I'm working with some new software (in addition to what I always use) that sounds incredible but I'm trying to get it just right. Here's a little preview... (final might be a slightly different)

They misspelled Dave Swang's name wrong in the credits...repeatedly. And they missed giving Big Tray Dee and Deadly Threat their feature credits.

None of those tracks were recorded on Death Row, so no. I don't even think any of those had all three LBC Crew members on 'em.

Yes, they were. Check out that huge interview with Big C-Style that's on youtube. None of those tracks are "LBC Crew" tracks except for "Flossin" though. Actually Kurupt is on the original version of "Rap Killer" and that track will be on Big Style's new compilation.

yeah Gangsta has leaked. Its Lil' C-style and snoop dogg. Chorus goes "He would grow up to be nothin but a gangsta" It heavily uses a sample, although I can't think of the original sample off the top of my head. hopefully it comes out in cdq.

Beware Of My Crew [DJ Pooh Remix] was never released on a full lenght album, only a single. That's why I'm counting it as unreleased. Gangsta by Lil' C-Style and Snoop leaked years ago but is still unreleased.

so a song is "unreleased" in your book, unless its featured on an album/compialtion?
-
Exactly. Also, that single is out of print and hard to find. I'm just telling him why I listed it. I'm not saying everybody has to consider a track only released on a single as unreleased. That's just me.

The vocals sounding like that is a product of 1) lack of proper de-essing during mixing (see my earlier comments) and 2) the format it was recorded on deteriorating (Digital Audio Tape—DAT).
Other than that if you can’t discern any noticeable difference between those two (the retail and my remaster) then your ears may be seriously damaged… or you probably hold some job at WideAwake ;D
I wanted to have this done earlier but like I said, I’m working with some new software that sounds so clean and rich, but calibrating it and incorporating into what I usually use has been time consuming.

the song "gangsta (when u grow up)" was taped off the radio back in 96, thats why its in poor quality sound.
the beat samples "never too much" by luther vandross.
also there's another lbc crew track that is still unreleased, which is:

I'm not dissing your work at all, but as you know that noise from tape duplication/deterioration + lossy encoding, EQing and recompression is only going to accentuate the flawed part of the audio and add new compression artifacts in the precess. For me the CD is going to sound the cleanest every time because it's the purest reproduction of the 'original' source. No hate! 8)

does anybody know why this album was never released? I was fucking with them on the thin line between love and hate. Most of the artist in the crew ended up being successfull though.
-
it will be worth the wait. efrain is great as remastering. i listened to the grouprip once and now i'm just waiting on the mastered version 8)
-
Thanks guys!
The LBC Crew is mostly done, about 90% and it sounds great. I’ve got the presets on everything I’ve just been holding off on pulling the trigger. I wanted it sound as good a possible so I’ve taken my time. But I’ll have it up here by Monday come hell or high water.
Everyone is going to be real pleased when they hear it though, I promise. Definitely worth the wait. If you liked the “Baby Come Home” sample I put up before, then you’ll love the final one. More rich and solid.. little less bright. The whole thing sounds great I’m so happy we got the album in the form we did (so we can fix it!) lol
And I’m throwing a couple bonuses in there too ;D
-

It’ll be up tonight by 12:00 EST, US. I’ll make a new thread for it. I may upload a portion (half) then PM the other half+ bonuses to members who respond with feedback so the thread doesn’t get deleted. I definitely want a thread to be here and available to the public, but putting up the album in full—even if dramatically different in quality—may come across as pirating and I don’t want dubcc to catch any heat from WA… besides that really isn’t the point here anyways. WA should know what their target market/customers think and I want them to be able to hear this and see the feedback in earnest. … the proof is in the putting. They can say theirs sounds fine all they want but the fact is, it doesn’t.
After listening to a any track off mine you realize ‘something ‘aint right’ with the WA version pretty quick, lol. I'll be sure to send them a copy too 8)

I'll be sure to send them a copy too 8)
definitely look forward to it
