Crooked I will drop "Sex, Money and Hip Hop" on December 16 through SMH Records.
It features guest verses from Slaughterhouse, Emanny, Horseshoe Gang, Shale, Bo-Roc & Novel and productions from Justice League, Jonathan Hay and Mike Smith, Sarah J, DJ King Tech, Aktive, Rick Rock etc.
Nipsey droppin, Now Crooked, this december is looking great so far 8)

So he really changed his name?
-
Kinda anoid his name is king crooked. It messes up his library for me, like when Roscoe changed to scoe.
-
I liked him better as humble storytellin' Crooked I:

So what is this?? Official album? Or just another half-ass project?
-
So what is this?? Official album? Or just another half-ass project?
It's an original body of work being labeled as a "mixtape experience". It's all new music, professionally mixed by King Tech / Iceman. Hard copies available at: www.smhmerch.com
Going to be a dope project.
-
wood carved album cover? the fuck?? lol

It's already sold out, pretty cool idea. If I still bought CDs I'd be getting it.

It should be good. I'm interested to hear the sound on this one. There's a lot of producers that he hasn't worked with before I'm wondering what they have cooked up.

remember when he used to always work with Focus and Complex?
-
Crook changed his name because this project is without his Business Partners Tr Records, so with this project his gettin more money 5000 bucks ;)
-
so the Jonathan Hay who executive produces this is dubcnn's Jonathan Hay ?

Same one yes. Although I haven't done anything with Dubcnn for several years. Dubcnn was a great outlet for me to interview all my hip-hop heroes, etc. Much love for this place.

gives you an idea what to expect in album sales wise lol
-
I'd like to hear the album before dropping anything. I felt his last album was a waste due to the production. Hopefully this is better. Don't mind buying something that's good.
Anyone get it yet? Let us know how it is. Hopefully good.
-
i'll let you know when i get it
this is gonna be real hip hop 8)
-
anyone here got their CD yet?

Was just about 2 order this but they want $10 4 shipping 2 Canada. Call me cheap but that doesn't seem reasonable. Hopefully this pops up on ebay sooner than later bc that tracklist looks intriguing minus the Sauce Tha Boss interlude.
-
10 bucks to go to Canada? damn, it was 2.99 here in the states
-
still no leak, smh
Yeah, that's why he's on SMH Records lol...
so you are joking that the label is somehow a failure for the album not leaking yet??
confusing comment.
-
$ 9.99 + $ 14.99 for shipping overseas? seriously? if it's as disappointing as his previous releases this is not reasonable at all. don't get me wrong, I'm not saying that I don't like his music, I'm just wondering if he really expects people paying $ 25 for a mixtape
-
Received my copies this afternoon. I'm positive that those who made a purchase will not be disappointed. The packaging is professional and the CD looks great. Musically, this is really more of an "album" if anything, but do labels on projects even matter in 2014 anymore? Good music is good music. Those who are on the fence should definitely take a chance on this and fans will not regret their purchase. Enjoy! 8)
-
still no copy yet, hope it arrives before Xmas.
-
Hey guys,
All orders in the USA will arrive before Christmas if it was placed before yesterday. As far Canada shipping, that's how much it costs. Have you looked to see how much shipping is during the holiday season for international? It's crazy. We are losing money on a lot of it - and as a added bonus we are giving people two cd's for the price of one.
As far as why it's not online, have you not read Crooked's Open Letter To the Internet? If not, read here - http://watchloud.com/king-crooked-i-open-letter/
Thanks fam!
-
getting 2 CD's for the price of 1 is pretty 8)
nice idea too, can give one to a friend to Xmas this way.
-
ok, fuck the money. I'll order it now. Can't wait.
-
Honestly, this "mixtape" should be labeled as an album. From beginning to end this is actually one of Crook's most complete / cohesive bodies of work. We get a variety of styles, topics and sounds on it. The production is top notch too, don't be thrown off by some of the new producers appearing on it. They did a great job on this. Definitely a nice surprise for the end of the year.

Thanks for the feedback EFFex and all the work you do. It's not a "mixtape", it's a "mixtape experience"... it's a concept album called a mixtape expereince. 8)

That's not a problem man, I'm still down for the movement even though I can't always put in as much time as I want to these days.

Is the track [Freestylin' Under Oath] a re-make? Has anyone heard that shit on another album or something? It sounds familiar, like I heard that beat somewhere else.
-
it didn't sound rerecorded but i haven't listened to them back to back
i'm sad this project leaked so early but the world needs to hear it 8)
Drum Murder part 2 is over a remake of an old NWA classic beat....not gonna spoil it
-
Kinda disappointed after hearing this record, too much hype ruined it IMO & not as good as YOUNG/BOSS, PSALM or PIGFACE.

you kidding me? this shit is fire. and there was literally no hype, this came out of nowhere bro.

I agree with your post.
I actually think this is one of his best efforts to date. Definitely some of the best productions, flows, topics, variety. Overall it's polished from beginning to end. You are right about the hype too. Although there was a lot of information about it released all at the same time, there was no long time build up to it like previous projects. It was really a nice treat for the end of the year. Of course everyone is entitled to their own opinion, but I don't see how a Crook fan can not feel this.
-
my brother bought it and like hack said came with 2 copies. gave me one and so im gonna give it a spin. really does look like an album and shit

Listenin' 2 it right now!! :)
-
they put it up for free on the smh records website, guess they gave in to the internet after someone leaked the CD
-
Bump it over the weekend. Some cool songs, but nothing that stands out or will continue to be played by the end of January.
-
I find it funny no one has really shared their thoughts on this mixtape experience.
I tried very hard to listen to this and it's got no substance to it. The production is good, however Crooked just has boring raps over the beats. No excitement. Glad I passed on this so I wasn't burned again like his last album.
I was a big Crooked fan, but his new stuff is getting worse. Let's be real here.
I give them credit for the marketing calling this a piece of art, but that doesn't help a weak CD.
-
the beat for Fallen Rap Gods is :yikes:

That's true but listen to this http://youtu.be/NSBfUAFDgaM
Does it say something in the credits about it or is it just the same sample from a completely different track?

comes fux wit the lamb album then...only 7.99 for international shipping (and 1 cent for the album). 8 bux well spent

but the beat Crooked is on is a better sample to me and the drums too

I have to be honest, I'm a little surprised to see people passing over this project and assuming that it's just a generic effort. This has the most content and diverse topics of any Crooked project in recent memory.
You get the introspective / motivational songs with records such as "Sick of Being Broke", "Know Thy Self" and "Lift Me Up". Then you have the tracks that are simply about the bars such as "Drum Murder Part 2" or "No Plan B". You get the classic street anthems with songs like "Hardest In The Game" and "Fallen Rap Gods". Those that are into that West Coast / gangster rap style should enjoy "The Originals" or "Move Like A G Do". That's only the tip of the ice berg...
As there is literally a song for everyone over some of the best production he's had in a long time, what more else could you ask for? Not to mention, Crook sounds hungry again on this one. I think that people need to realize that 2015 Crooked I is not the same artist as 1998 - 2002 Crooked I. He's evolved as not only an artist, but as a person. So, please don't dismiss this project, go into it with an open mind. I think that is part of the whole "KXNG CROOKED" persona. It's not necessarily just a gimmick for the project, I think he wants people to listen to the music with a fresh perspective.
If you don't like it though, it may just not be your style. And that's fine too. Can't please everyone. 8)

The original track seems to be Lamont Dozier - Rose. http://www.whosampled.com/sample/2804/Shyne-Foxy-Brown-More-or-Less-Lamont-Dozier-Rose/. ... but the beats are so similar that there must be another source. Do u know which track it's from?
I listened to the Shyne track more than a hundred times so at first I didn't prefer Fallen Rap Gods over it. It grows on me tho.
Sex, Money & Hip Hop is a really dope album, I don't regret that I ordered it a couple of days before they offered it as a free download. #COB effex is right that this album is much better than most of the previous projects

the Horseshoe gang song is godly 8)

It's mixtape quality. Rushed. No one will be talking about this in a few months.
Crooked is a great Emcee, but his tracks on here sound like he's rap battling over a beat. The songs need a good hook, limited lyrics, polished production.
Mixtape....Just know that before you buy it. Mixtape Experience was just a fancy word for marketing.
-
who the fuck listens to Crooked i music for "good hooks"??? the dude is about bars. period.

very professional of you to go back and forth with a customer of yours ::)
-
not being unprofessional. you said smh is a dumb name and i simply responded and said hack was a dumb name. its all just a matter of opinion on a public form.
-
I guess we should go back on topic and discuss the album ;) 8)
-
Great album, Crooked is doing what he does best by verbally destroying tracks plus he is rapping over better production. I'd like to see him spitting over some more hip-hop/boom bap beats though.
I agree, who listens to Crooked I for nice hooks, it's like checking Drake's album for hard records.
-
It's a great project better than fuckin apex predator, you can dl
that on the smh website..
-
Finally ordered my copy.
-
aight i've listened to it enough times to pick the best songs for sure
Promethius is the best song, that beat had me like (http://imgur.com/H3N7wIX.png)
other special songs include
Fallen Rap God is a close second. Beat is bonkers and Crooked has some of his best verses.
Drum Murder part 2 has the illest beat (sounds a lot like Appetite by NWA). It's the HSG going back and forth with Crook 4 bars at a time, showing off their bars while rhyming every first line with the others last 2. Great way to show off their chemistry and rappity rap abilities. Would have liked to see Crooked feature them as solo guests on songs that could use 1 more verse. Oh well.
The Originals is a throwback to old school westcoast sounding Crooked. Props to Justice for saving him this beat.
No Joell on the Slaughterhouse song had me going (http://imgur.com/NVcaLFB.png)
Only a fool wouldn't give it a listen 8)

This is a dope album if you like Crooked I and have been following him. His best album by far. This would've been a huge thread if it had been released say 5 years ago.

Crook spit some dope shit no doubt, I have a problem with some of the production which I think is weak and some songs concepts which I find corny (totally subjective, though). that groupie song is cringe worthy, lol.

No doubt! And know (I guess) it's on purpose, but his flow often seems lazy.
