Didn't beatz say he would?
I'm sure Dre-Day will support it too.
Dre should just sell Aftermath to Jimmy, and start over... Aftermath has lost all it's credit with those garbage artists and albums they have put out.

i hope they do homie!

sounds interesting but i dk if he would ever do that...but would love to see it happen ;D

what do you mean?
at least jerry gave his artists artistic freedom and got the albums RELEASED! (do I need to bring up hittman and king t?). Just bought the Jerry Heller book,I've flipped trough it. Some interesting shit comes up,there's at least two sides to the story.

The  A&M Studios was the arguably the finest recording studio in the world between 1986 and 1998. In 1998 Polygram was sold to Universal, who had no use for a studio. The studio was stripped to a skeleton staff and run at a bare minimum until it could be sold. In 1999 it was finally sold to Jim Henson productions, but not before Mr. Jimmy Iovine - head of a division of MCA - took most of the unique and wonderful equipment for his own studios, leaving the well-designed rooms. The Henson company has invested in replacement gear and is operating the studio at this time. The old website has been removed and the Henson company has been purchased by a German firm.

Dr. Dre, Jimmy Iovine To Announce New Product At CES Show

Legendary producer Dr. Dre and Chairman of Interscope Geffen A&M Records Jimmy Iovine will announce the debut of Monster Cable's latest product at a press conference tomorrow (January 6) in Las Vegas.

Dr. Dre is expected to reveal the details about a new product tomorrow during the press conference, which will take place at the Venetian Hotel at 3 p.m.

The press conference and announcement has been incorporated into this years Consumer Electronics Show.
In addition to the press conference with Dr. Dre, Monster Cable will also host a number of other events at the Consumer Electronics Show, including the Monster Retail Awards and a Monster Concert featuring Mary J. Blige, and more. Monster Cable was founded in 1979 by Noel Lee and has quickly become the world's leading manufacturer of high performance cables. The company also offers a number of products for home theater and audio, amplifiers, computers, mobile devices, and much more.
Monster Cable's 4,000 products are sold in over 80 countries across the world. Dr. Dre’s Detox album is scheduled to hit stores sometime in June.

In related news, Dr. Dre’s daughter Manaj will also make an appearance at the CES show this year, promoting TM Media Group’s new online video and collectible card game, Street Cred. Manaj, 23, is also the first Hip-Hop artist signed to TM Media’s new Hip-Hop imprint and is planning to release a full-length DVD titled Daddy’s Shadow.
According to a press release, the DVD centers around Manaj’s quest to "break into the music industry despite her legendary multi-millionaire father’s objections and lack of support." Daddy’s Shadow is slated for a Spring 2008 release.

it's an interesting idea, but if he died, rest assured there'd be some other corporate honcho to do the exact same shit he does.

what we have to do is stop supporting mainstream rap. when the bottom falls out of the system they currently operate with, those who gain power in the aftermath (no pun intended) will know they have to run thins differently.

You´re smart enough to understand that "Jimmy" is a metaphor.... or?

what we have to do is stop supporting mainstream rap.

It´s funny because "everyone" hates pop rap,but when one their albums drops "everbody" goes crazy....
Just look at all the threads the last 50 and Kanye albums got,hypocrites.....anyone?  :P :P
So actually "we" should take a look at "ourself"....

So why get mad at the kid that's number 1, because your guy isn't number 1?
The guy who's number has nothing to do with whether your guy is number 1!
You know what I'm saying?
A lot of people are mad, they have this anger, they wanna be mad at somebody, but they don't really know who to be mad at!
If you're a consumer, you gotta be mad at yourself!

if i read the whole thread, i probably would have gotten that some of y'all mean it metaphorically. but all the posts i read (ie: the first page mainly) actually discussed killing Iovine LOL

I look at the political system like one of those old school water powered energy converters. Those windmill like devices that require water pressure moving through it to power shit?

The contraption is the political system, and the water is political participation/votes. If it ain't getting water, that wheel ain't spinning. If we ain't voting, the political system ain't doing what we want it to do.

The system ain't broke; we ain't using it.

Not saying that leaders aren't corrupt, but we allowed them to be corrupt by paying more attention to American Idol than the American president.

Sure but do you really think NUMBERS would make any difference?
Title: Re: Who Supports The "Kill Jimmy Iovine Movement"?
Post by: Tanjential on January 30, 2008, 12:46:59 AM
the numbers are just a method of measurement....if most citizens were active participants, the leaders wouldn't have nowhere to hide. we'd get senators to legislate regulations and checks and balances and shit.

So if you ain´t talking about measurements, then you´re talking about actually talking about taking action, right?
There was a thread like year ago about a dude that visited us from the future (yeah, right  :P ),
he said there was a civil war coming. So it might come to this if it really gets ruff.  :P

we'd get senators to legislate regulations and checks and balances and shit.

lol, i expected the movement would get a little more attention than it has right now; oh well, it is what it is  :P

even if the word reached the aftermath "circle" it wouldn't change anything anyway, although it would have been hilarious to see in interviews with one of the aftermath artists, that the movement caught their attention though   :D

oh well, as long as Dre delivers Detox this year and will work on some other good projects (like voice threw hot vessels) i'm satisfied.
fuck the crossover shit, aftermath will eventually die because of that if you look at the current state of the rap music industry.

wait so white people aren't allowed to use controversial terms for artistic purposes? Okay.

and Patti Smith's a ridiculously respected poet and rocker but okay.

either way, I think you're missing the point. Iovine as an individual is whatever, but he's symbolic of larger negative trends in the industry as previously discussed.

i dont care if someone is considered the best at whatever, it doesnt make it fact.  its all OPINIONS.

just because most people think that the beatles are the greatest group ever, it dont make it fact...and someone who disagrees isnt wrong, either...cause its just his/her opinion.

my point is this: fuck jimmy iovine 8)

Busta Rhymes Dropped From Aftermath?!?! (pre-official)

It’s official
- Busta Rhymes got dropped from Interscope/Aftermath. It was reported that Busta Rhymes was dropped from Interscope due to a heated argument with Jimmy Iovine. He later confirmed that the album would be released in late September on Aftermath. www.Aftermathmusic.com contacted the general manager of Aftermath.

“Yes, it’s true. He got dropped.”, so the General Manager of Aftermath.

“Blessed” is scheduled to release in September, but not on Aftermath.

Yes, downloading has hurt no doubt.  But execs who don't fundamentally understand music are calling the shots I think has hurt more than anything.

I love watching the majors crumble.

you make a good point Raide, but it's not 10 bucks. cds are always more than that, around me at least. but if they were 10 bucks or less i may buy more.

now, i am the customer....the industry should cater to me. buying cds is not rewarded. the most practical music listening methods no longer involve cds.

i bought cds until very recently but eventually it became clear to me that downloading (legally through purchase or otherwise) was the way things were going...but my I.E. dwelling ass has yet to buy an ipod or anything like that....I got an external hard drive a while back but between ages 18-21 (i'm 21 now) as i'm sure many of you know...real life hits and i have practical ass broke college kid shit to pay for.

i've supported these artists for years, i have shelves of their records (some much whacker than others. i bought the wash soundtrack for god sakes) and they haven't done shit for me so I feel no guilt for downloading some of the shit, especially since it pisses me off that cats like dre leave so much desirable material unreleased and unconsolidated so once more...no guilt here.

i agree with Jrome, let the majors crumble. rich artists like dre will always have outlets for their work.

as cool as relapse is, it's too little too late.

he'da dropped raekwon's album two years ago, i'da bought it

he'da dropped bishop lamont's album one year ago, i'da bought it

etc etc.

i don't know if y'all noticed, but there's been an economic meltdown since december 2007. music is the last shit regular people should be buying. i buy comic books, because the creators of them don't treat me like shit, don't care that i am not a woman, and are very cool to me. a lot of them do sketches for me and shit...for free as well.

if i ever approached eminem, snoop, cube, dre the way i do comic creators when i have a fan to artist conversation guess the reaction i'd get "get off my dick and tell your bitch to come here"

fuck rappers, they've never done shit for us.

if they want our money they better do some MINDblowing shit.

relapse is cool, but it's too little too late.

kid cudi's tapes are cool but there's really only 7-10 bangers

etc etc.

we are the consumer, it is their job to make us want to consume. it is not our fault if the art is not good/fair/plentiful enough to compel us to consume it.

don't vilify me; as usual the villains are the rich.

it's the companies own damn fault.

i go to borders, right? sometimes anyway...they got cds for 13.99, 14.99, 15.99 etc. talking about it's a sale everything must go...i say they should sell that shit at 8.99, 9.99 and watch it fly out the door. my friend that works there says that they'd lose money if they did that.

i say...Look at 12.99, 13.99, 14.99 etc. NOONE has bought them shits. at 9.99 at least they're making that ten bucks back. ten bucks back is better than nothing back.....

he'da dropped bishop lamont's album one year ago, i'da bought it

etc etc.

i don't know if y'all noticed, but there's been an economic meltdown since December 2007. music is the last shit regular people should be buying. i buy comic books, because the creators of them don't treat me like shit, don't care that i am not a woman, and are very cool to me. a lot of them do sketches for me and shit...for free as well.

if i ever approached eminem, snoop, cube, Dre the way i do comic creators when i have a fan to artist conversation guess the reaction I'd get "get off my dick and tell your bitch to come here"

fuck rappers, they've never done shit for us.

if they want our money they better do some MINDblowing shit.

relapse is cool, but it's too little too late.

kid cudi's tapes are cool but there's really only 7-10 bangers

etc etc.

we are the consumer, it is their job to make us want to consume. it is not our fault if the art is not good/fair/plentiful enough to compel us to consume it.

don't vilify me; as usual the villains are the rich.

it's the companies own damn fault.

i go to borders, right? sometimes anyway...they got Cd's for 13.99, 14.99, 15.99 etc. talking about it's a sale everything must go...i say they should sell that shit at 8.99, 9.99 and watch it fly out the door. my friend that works there says that they'd lose money if they did that.

i say...Look at 12.99, 13.99, 14.99 etc. NOONE has bought them shits. at 9.99 at least they're making that ten bucks back. ten bucks back is better than nothing back.....

here's where I got to arrest you Tanj..... you're a highly intelligent cat.  ;)
But at the same time you treat showbiz cats as objects.  :-[
These cats are in their alter ego as artists...  so when you have bought their album/seen their movie and what not, their oblagation to you is over.
They don´t have to be in their alter ego when they meet you... they checked out,so now they´re Andre Young,Curtis Jackson and so on.
They don´t want a fan asking questinions about their fairytales.... it´s showbiz, nothing more, nothing less

I think it depends on how you approach them and where. The downside of being a celebrity is having everyone run up to you when you are trying to be low-key or do everyday things. I've chopped it up with a lot of artists (mostly West Coast underground and backpackers) at shows or studios and it makes them much easier to relate to. But rappers aren't required to do anything for the communities or be public servants, so it's unfair to judge them in that manner. Their duty is to make music and that's where it ends. I respect those like Too Short and Mistah FAB who are known for giving back with youth programs and things like that but that's not their job.

y'all totally missed my point.

part of it was, yeah that's fine that you consider "get off my dick and tell your bitch to come here" justified, but i can support the comic book industry, and comics are like 3-4 bucks a pop versus 15-20 bucks a pop, and 90% of the creators are super cool to fans..

so i'm getting more value, respect and interaction from these cats.

rap is constantly putting people down, costs a gang, and rappers are macho assheads for the most part....i don't want to give those fuckers my money anymore.

i've given them so much money for so little over the years....i don't feel guilty at all.

if relapse would have come out pre-economic meltdown, i'da bought it by now.

it's a different time. i still want music, but it straight CAN'T figure into my budget right now..also largely because buying a cd is not the final format i will have this  music in...and i'm SUPER straight on paying for downloads soooo yeah, you can try all day to make me feel sorry for the poor rappers who don't sell the millions of records they used to...they will have to do a lot for me to care to spend money on their shit again and even then, prices have got to go down.
