This should be dope. Any release date?
-
It's about time Nas damn been waiting on this release for so long. I wonder how different the tracklist will be as compared to what most fans thought would make the cut back when the first mention of the album surfaced? He better drop some never before released tracks as well as some remastered versions of songs that have been out for so long already.
-
rather hear snoops lost sessions 2, but i’ll take

Not yet.

looking forward to this, first Lost Tapes was on par with Nas best albums
-
Cannnnnnot wait. First Lost Tape is a classic.

True. I wish this had some older songs on it too though. Lookin' at the tracklist, it seems that this is newer material.

Ya he's got a lot of old songs we still need in cdq.

Exactly.

Glad to see that the release date isn't very far away. Seeing the tracklist took my anticipation down a notch tho. I was hoping for some older material as well.
Would've been nice to get a few of the older gems in CDQ. Production lineup looks decent but seeing Swizz Beatz doing 3 tracks, RZA doing 2 (he hasn't been as impressive to me lately as he was in his younger years), & Pharrell on 1 track doesn't make me think that this has the potential to be on par with Lost Tapes 1 which I rank as 1 of Nas' best albums. Surprised to see 2 Pete Rock joints on here & that Alchemist track should be dope. As far as familiarity goes I only recognize the song names "Who Are You?" (pretty good song) & "You Mean The World To Me" (sounds dope but the sequencing of the version that was released seemed off) which I really liked.
On a side note I wish they would've kept the original version of "No Idea's Original" on The Lost Tapes rather than the Barry White sampled version but they may have changed it due to sample clearing issues so who knows

iono, I fux with it. Not necessarily something that we are used to Nas doing which might explain why people don't like it tho
-
Yeah, the first single is trash. Nas needs to say that it was a street single and release somethin' else.

Nas said volumes 3 and 4 comin' out soon too. We'll see.

Nice hopefully we get more 90s Nas

what?

I guess I’m different than most because I don’t care about the production that much and I kind of feel like less is more when you have a great lyricist like Nas. Like the last shit he did with Kanye was overproduced and trash to me. I loved Lost Tapes 1 because the beats were very simplistic and it just felt like Nas was all in the studio alone off in a zone.
Take an artist like Ras Kass and he got panned for his beats on Soul On Ice but I actually loved him on those beats because you could really zero in on the lyrics and storytelling.
I’m hopeful though just because of the title. And Nas is one of those great artists like PAC who carries backlogs of unreleased gems that could fill full albums and I play in rotation for years and years. I got about 2-3 unreleased Nas albums of classic material, so he’s gotta have some heat in the canon
-
nasir was far from trash ... and the beats on soul on ice was great
but yea, some artists can definitely make a good song on an average beat. they’re few and far between tho.

Naw homie I totally agree with you, I love the beats on Soul On Ice. But the critical perception in such magazines as the Source, etc was that the album was a failure at the time cause of his choice of beats.
The critics said the same thing to Canibus they said his first album was a failure cause of the beats, but how do? Wyclef was in his prime in those days, but those East Coast journalists are just on the dick of Premier, Large Pro, or whatever I don’t know
...btw, Nasir was trash and I’m no fan of Kanye

I DIDNT THINK NASIR WAS HIS BEST WORK, BUT THERE WAS SOME DOPE JOINTS ON THERE, AND OVERALL WAS A SOLID ALBUM.....BEATS WERENT THE BEST BUT THEY WERENT BAD EITHER.

lmfao... why did that comment make me hear the song before actually hearing it?
I just peeped it, not feeling that but I'm downloading the album now, hopefully this is the only skipper
-
For me I’m a fan of Lost Tapes 1 so I was hoping for something similar or like his other great unreleased and bootleg stuff over the years.. I need some more time for it to grow on me but so far it’s better than that Kanye trash he last put off... “War Against Love” and “Queens Wolf” seem to be worthy tracks... but so far I can’t get a grasp on it...
Btw “World To Me” is dope but Id already heard that one, maybe even several years back not sure but I know I used to bump it
-
Solid album, "Beautiful Life" should have been "Life Is Good" closer, perfect ending.
My other favorite ones are "Lost Freestyle", "Royalty", "The Art of It" and the single, it's easy to hate (and I'm sure he was expecting this, that's why it's even better) but I like the Jazz/Scat vibe, it's something different and funny.

after more than a few listens it is not nearly as good as Lost Tapes 1 but very dope nonetheless
can't get into the 1st single at all though no matter how many times I listen to it
-
Fucc it...(I work abroad) but I’m back in the states for the summer and my life is shit here and I’m the biggest fuccin loser here...
....so since I’m stuck here a few more days I just decided I’m so fuccin depressed I don’t even have the energy to do shit else.... so I’m just gonna sit here listen to this album for like 60 hours straight and force it to grow on me... I’m too depressed to do anything else so fucc it... expect a thorough ass review...
I’m taking it back to the days when you could only buy an album every few months so you were stuck with it till it would eventually grow on you... I’m going back to that

I knew they’d say that... just keep shoving it down your throat... the ears will adjust a bit more after each listen... it’s a grower...
It is different it’s a lot of free association rhymes without themes and concepts like the first lost tapes... but you can still get lost in it and zone out to the wordplay and the stream of conscious
Some good ones....
7/10 “Adult Film” is dope...hypnotic, feeling the piano and repetition
8.5/10 “War Against Love” feel good track — ...went from a Christ nicca to an Allah nicca 8)
6/10 “The Art of It” Dope, nice rhymes, feel good, but nothing spectacular
8/10 “Queens Wolf” vintage Lost Tapes style joint all the folks complainin it ain’t enough like Lost Tapes 1 this track could’ve been on the first Lost Tapes
9/10 “You Mean the World To Me” — I love this one maybe my favorite only problem it’s old I remember bumping it on some Nas unreleased stuff some years ago and the tracks to short but Nas revs shit up like a race car cipherin round the track on some cool shit 8)
7.5/10 “Beautiful Life” — track would’ve fit well on his Life Is Good album, quality track Nas fans should enjoy
6.5/10 “No Bad Energy” — Nas supplicatin comin almost on like a spiritual tip it’s like a prayer, dope track it just doesn’t bang but still ill
7/10 “Jareau of Rap” interesting track kind of like jazz or orchestra type shit it’s pretty smooth kind of reminds me of that single he did with his dad back in the day on Streets Disciple, won’t blow you away though
6.5 “Tanasia” interesting track, kind of like an East Coast version of Snoop’s “Shes In Love With A Thug” from the Top Dogg album though not as dope
8/10 “Royalty” - another feel good track but kind of for the ladies, Nas sounds a bit hypocritical telling ladies to “close their legs” and then spending most of his career bragging about bitches he fuccs but it’s all good I mean he has a daughter and people are monoliths we experience a myriad of contrasting emotions and ideas. It’s a bit like an underground version of that single from “God’s Son” — “I Can”

Nas does it again, another classic 8)
True story. Album actually relieved my depression. After like a 24 hour listening period I’m cured. First great new album I’ve heard in rap since Dre’s Compton. I was beginning to think my only hope was digging into old music

I mean it's actually nice that they at least still sell CDs as merch (that's for most Def Jam releases), but it also makes it harder/more expensive.. Just found out they did the same with YG new album (online shop only) and it's sold out already ::)

The only songs I'm not really fuckin' with are "Jarreau Of Rap (Skatt Attack)" and "You Mean The World To Me" and that's 'cause of the beats. There's a few weaker songs too, but again, it's the beats that I'm not feelin' that much. I really like the album. I remember people hatin' on the Swizz Beatz songs when the tracklist came out. Suprisingly they're both some of the best songs on the album IMO. It's a shame there's no DJ Premier beats on the album though. Hard to believe he hasn't been workin' with Nas or maybe he just didn't wanna include songs they have did since 2006. I remember Premo sayin' that when they get together they just like to kick it instead of workin' on music, so maybe that's why there's no new music from those two?

forced myself to listen again ala infinite and its pretty dope overall. not classic, but nothing bad on here.
overall, nothing really jumps at u but it’s an album that u can listen to all the way through.

I underrated this at first as well. Now it’s one of my favorite Nas albums. Really grows on you
