For being such a great rapper Nas always gave the shittiest interviews. He had a great role in the 97 Rhyme and Reason documentary, but that was really a different style of interview all together. That's the only time I saw him come off well in an interview like the person you hear in the music.
Pac ofcourse, always gave the best interviews. Vibe came out with that book years ago, I'm sure a lot of you have it, but it is a compilation of all their articles and interviews for him and it's damn near a masterpiece of hip-hop journalism.
-
With his gravely voice and fake gangsta persona, Game has to be one of the worst. I always enjoy a Snoop Dogg interview.
-
Nas interviews are horrible.. check out the video wit Nardwar, smh
----
Warren G is shitty interview-material. ("...u know im sayin, nahmsayin - Snoop is my brother, Dre is my brother, Nate is mybrother. i have love for all of em. sniff, sniff... nahmsayi?")
and all of the aftermath-staff/artists (...."I cant speak on it right now",I cant speak on it right now" or "Dr Dre is a genius!")
-----
?uestlove (The Roots) is cool
Jay-Z too
oh, n Snoop (depending on his high and mood)
*edit*
cant forget Primo. always insightful
-
Nas can't talk. He can rap but he sounds like an idiot having actual conversations.
Immortal Technique gives good interviews and always drops some knowledge.
-
Bun B gives some very thoughtful interviews. You can always sense that dude is very serious about his craft and you can tell he is intelligent.
Shock G gives insightful interviews too, he knows a lot about hip hop.
Boots Riley gives good interviews, check the one on cocaineblunt.com
Daz has given some of the funniest interviews, involuntary though lol.
Bad Azz gives cool interviews, plenty of anecdotes.
Quik can give interesting interviews with shitloads of worthy anecdotes but gets boring when he starts ranting
------
E-40 gives boring interviews. dude just brags about being humble (paradoxical i know) and says the same shit over and over again. "i provided the independent blueprint. i rep my soil. i stay humble and hungry" bla bla bla
Warren G gives always the same interviews where he sounds bitter and desperate to reconnect with Dre musically, brownnosing.

LMAO, you need a life homie, no offense but you have an un-healty obsession with these hip-hop musicians. i know your prolly 15-17 so you prolly dont have a g.f. either but you sound really miserable towards these GUY's. 8)
-
50 cent gives the best interviews hands down, he's right up there with pac . The sheer entertainment value is off the charts. He's extremely witty and hilarious.
Truthfully I'd rather listen to his interviews over beats then listen to him rap nowadays.
B.g. Gives the worst, he's always high out of his mind on heroin or pills and makes no fucking sense
-
Depends on the interviewer too. If it's some nerdy Eurofuck asking questions over the phone, its bound to suck.
If it's Nardwuar, he'll make sure it's a good interview.

Kanye's interviews are usually pretty decent. Will Smith always gave cool interviews too

Nardwuar is easily the best interviewer in the business. I think anybody that's interviewed him can attest to that
-
^For real. I've watched at least ten of his interviews. The one with Odd Future is great.
-
His one with pharrell is my favorite.

okay, .. so i will not post about music or my opinions in music anymore on this music-forum, cuz i dont want to make u mad... ..... ...... right?
::)
-
tech n9ne, 2pac and mac dre were the best interviews....
-
His one with pharrell is my favorite.
Just checked it. The one with N.E.R.D., I assume.
How does he get all that info & show them shit that they loved like 10-15 years ago? Crazy.
-
LOL, the one with Jay-Z is such a joke. Jay was trying to be serious as fuck.
Nardwuar: Who are you?
Jay: Who am I? I'm a young man from the Marcy projects, who really made the thing they say is the "American Dream" come true. Because I'm not supposed to be here speaking to you. There's a lot people that come from where I come. There are a lot of skilled people who come from where I come, who are not here right now...
Nardwuar: You're Jay-Z.
-
DJ Premier is the best. He got the best memory, he remembers EVEYTHING, it's crazy.

Yeah, I noticed that too about Shock G. Shock is broadly intelligent and insightful. Has a creative mind. One of those smart people who's probably enhanced his mind even more through drug use, lol.
and lol about Warren G, that shit is kind of true about his interviews.... Although Warren G's interview content is similar to his music in a way. Alot of his songs are very nostalgic, rappin about his homies and growing up with Snoop. Which is pretty much the same shit he talks about in interviews.
-

I agree with what you said about everyone like Warren G and Primo... but I think Jay Z's interviews are wack just like his music. It's all just a marketing campaign promoting himself, and very little substance to prove why he ever deserved his position in the first place.
-
DJ Premier is the best. He got the best memory, he remembers EVEYTHING, it's crazy.
No doubt... what you always have to appreciate about DJ Premier is his deep love for hip-hop which supersedes all else.
-
...Also, KRS 1 is always a great interviewer. Kind of goes without saying, dude is the teacher, the philosopher, and great ambassador of hip-hop. In fact his interviews over the past 14 years or so have been even better than his music, and have kept him relevant.
-
Decided to check out some Premo interviews after what you guys said.
Good storyteller, seems like someone I could geek out with over music.
-

KRS is just incredible. I went to yet another of his shows, last weekend, and he never fails to impress with the knowledge he drops.
-
Krs also says some down right retarded things that make you shake your head. Beefing with nelly? Enough said
-
KRS-1 said Lil' Wayne was the best rapper alive lol.
-

real talk

i would agree with the premo and krs-1 picks, but i prefer interviews where we get more of an insight on the persons life than a hip-hop lesson. those are good in its own way, but 2pac, for instance, the way he described his feelings was poetic, even in interviews...he wasnt always tryna educate and what not, he was more of a natural speaker, from the heart...mac dre was like that too. same with tech. those cats didnt even need 2 think, they just said what they felt.
-
2pac hands down!

good point about them being great interviews not having to think or educate but just saying what they felt
-
I hardly ever listen / read any rappers' interview, unless it's something really really interesting they're talking about.
-
With his gravely voice and fake gangsta persona, Game has to be one of the worst.
he should do interviews when he's drunk
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dnmObHMkiQc
and it depends on the interviewer if he can make the interview interesting (unless you are Nas or Kid Cudi). Yelawolf does good interviews, J. Cole, Kendrick, Em and Royce, Pusha, Slug, K.R.I.T., Black Thought...
-
I never miss a Nardwuar interview. I was actually chillin with his camera man right before that Nas interview.
-
I never really listened to interviews until i seen a jay z juan epstein posted on here with a small description of what it was about. After hearing that, i liked it that much I downloaded the whole archive and for a couple of weeks listened to them at work. If you like quality interviews / entertainment i recommend looking up the juan epstein podcasts. In response to the original question from those interviews the ones that come to mind
Snoop is Cool as fuck talks about anything, told a gem about the whole Pac / Nas confrontation that has been discussed on here
Fat Joe did dope interviews found out him and big were the original twins, heaps of pun stories etc.
Lil Kim was really interesting with big / junior mafia stories more down to earth than i thought she would be
Redman is entertaining as fuck but Method Man not so much, interesting stories but comes off as arrogant
Busta Rhymes was cool
Soulja Boy was real ignorant said he didnt know who the wu-tang clan were, to which rosenberg responded "have you ever heard a hip hop record before"
CNN were pretty entertaining and laid back Noreaga is a funny MF
Pharrel is pretty cool too much more of a hip-hop head than i thought after hearing his interview i had a new respect for him
Jay was pretty dope too.
Oh yeah the last one with Em and Royce is good too they went into everything
Almost forgot Jim Jones and Cam got good stories too
-
Bishop Lamont takes the cake for the worst. Dude did an interview with dubcnn a few months back where he literally didn't answer a question.
Other bad interviewees: Mack 10 (dull as hell), Warren G (nahimsayin), Game (forced humor that's never funny). And as I'm typing it dawns on me all these dudes are from California lol
Best interviewees: 50 (his music sucks now but some of his interviews are down-right classic), 2Pac (dude was so loud and serious lol, he could talk for 10 minutes straight without taking a breather)
-
50 hands down, always entertaining
-
Daz Dillinger - You just know a interview with him will be entertaining.
-
joaquin phoenix
-
I think 50 Cent, DJ Quik, and Pac are the best interviews for me to watch/read/listen to.
-
surprised no one said diddy
-
50's interviews are usually pretty entertainin.
