Was looking through ebay and saw this poster/advertisement listed for the Murder Was The Case soundtrack. It lists new songs from: and has 2Pac on the list:

Anyone know what the deal with this is (since he wasn't on the soundtrack)?
-
wow never heard about this before.
I saw in one interview... Big C-Style was saying that the original LBC Crew album morphed into murder was the case.
Then some say that it was originally going to be a Dogg Pound/Snoop album.
So I'm not sure exactly how 2Pac could fit into the fold. interesting...

I got the Murder Was The Case VHS, lol, and I think I remember at the end of the movie, in the credits, they list a couple Pac songs (can't remember which ones they were, though). Nothing unreleased. He was in the video for Natural Born Killaz.
-
Yes, he was supposed 2 appear on tha soundtrack. 2Pac discussed this back in 1996. This was back in 1994, Suge asked 2Pac for some songs for tha Murder Was The Case soundtrack and I think 2Pac recorded 2 songs for that album. Suge gave him like $250,000 for tha songs and he didn't use them. 2Pac was cool with tha Death Row roster at that time. This may have been one of many attempts of Suge's to get 2Pac on Death Row.
-
Props. Was about to get this on DVD - maybe the old VHS was different, credits-wise?
-
Yup Suge didnt use the songs, Pac was also in the Natural Born Killaz video.

IDK, I'd check my tape but I don't have a VCR anymore

You will find that this was "Above The Rim" not "Murder Was Tha Case".
Those 2 songs for Above the Rim were Pain and Loyal to the Game, which both appeared on The B-Side of the single for Warren's Regulate.
Not sure what Murder Was The Case could have been?
-
In his interview with Sway (the one included on "In His Own Words") Pac discusses the early relationship with Suge. Says Suge paid him the most he ever had received at the time for songs on the "Murder Was The Case" soundtrack. He may have mistaken it for Above The Rim but he says Murder Was The Case.
I believe Interscope was really pushing for that relationship to happen. Pac was getting in quite a bit of legal trouble and they knew David Kenner was keeping the Death Row guys out of prison. That combined with their established history when it came to making hit records at that time.

thats crazy

we talked about the ad years ago... i also got a promo postcard for the OST and yea 2pac is listed. maybe suge wanted him on the album after he paid him for pain on ATR and they re cool at the time.
-
Perhaps it was just wishful thinking then on Suge's part and he just stuck the name on there hoping it would happen.

I doubt that. You can't really advertise on wishful thinking.

Let's remember those 2 songs 'Pain' and 'Loyal to the Game' appeared in rare pressings for the Above the Rim soundtrack (EP's, Singles, and if I'm correct the cassette version). So those songs were in some form used. 'Pain' even appeared in the movie. I think 2Pac may have recorded 2 other songs for Suge and he didn't use them at all. 2Pac was cool with everybody at Death Row at that time (in 1994). Suge was tryin 2 get him on the label at that time also.
-
is there a 2pac song in Murder Was The Case Movie???

it was more to help pac out because he was broke...
-
Swoop G, Lil' Bow Wow, and Michel'le were also originally supposed to appear on the soundtrack as well
-
Swoop G was on the soundtrack. 2Pac talked about how Suge paid him and didn't even use the songs. Since the Above the Rim days, Death Row was talking like they had just signed 'Pac, and it never came to be until after 'Pac got out of jail. I am not sure which songs it was he gave Suge though for Murder Was the Case, though I always thought So Many Tears would have fit the vibe of that Soundtrack. Someone did say High 'Till I Die, that would too.

Swoop G was on the soundtrack.
Swoop G's song was in the video but was never released on the Soundtrack

He was on the song Who Got Some Gangsta Shit? as Young Swoop.

nah they are referring to the song '20 dollars'
it was in the movie, but didn't make the cut for murder was the case. it later resurfaced on his solo album (which is both rare and underrated).
from what i understand this album went through a lot iterations, so i'm sure there is plenty recorded for it that we've never heard.
but if anyone is looking for a great murder was the case throwaway check out Just Doggin (OG). I'm listening to it right now and this song kicks ass. It's produced by Dr. Dre, has rapped verses by Kurupt and Daz, and the hook is by Nate. And I think I just heard some George Clinton adlibs on the end. And this beat is fucking sick... so yea lol.
-
Just doggin is produced by daz not dre, and it was on the sunset park ost

damn didn't know that. either way i heard it was originally intended for MWTC

I think that song was playing in the background during Above The Rim's bar scene.

yeap, that is true. maybe it was originally intended for above the rim. i mean based on its sound i'd say it was recorded in 93.

2Pac was to appear on the Murder Was The Case soundtrack. The orginal version of Life's So Hard was gonna the song for it. Now, this is not the one that appears on the Gang Related soundtrack. This was pre-Death Row recorded material.

Pain wasn't on a "rare" pressing though... it was on the cassette back when tons of people still bought cassettes, so most people heard the track

Right, I had it! I know what u mean. I said that it was rare pressing bcuz here it is 2011 and the Above The Rim soundtrack has not been released like that on cd. It only released like that in 1994 on cassette. It don't appear like that on a "remastered version" of that album or anything. It was rare. Just like G'z up, Hoez down appearing on Snoop's Doggystyle album. that was on the original pressing, which was limited. Once those were sold, they were gone. All of the re-issues and remastered versions of that album don't have that cut on there. Those cds are not even setup like the original pressed ones were. I think the re-issue ones had 15 seletions and the original had 17. I got them both now.
