-
was just about to make this thread lol
just listened to MMLP the other day ago, let's see how this holds up
-
Sounds good better than recovery , can't find the bonus tracks.
-

You're going to be fuckin' depressed lol.
-
recycle bin material

You're going to be fuckin' depressed lol.
if it's at least better than his last 2 albums and that joint he did with Royce I'll be mildly satisfied lol
I had to delete the version I downloaded since it was in shitty wma format, getting a different rip now
-
He's 3/3 so far on my first listen.
So 4/7 considering Rap God is great. And then Bezerk, The Monster and Surivial suck lol.
-
He's making the same music as the "artists" he was making fun of 13 years ago ... another terrible album
-
Any Dre productions ?
-
Any Dre productions ?
I don't think so.
-
Honestly...
Bad Guy
Rhyme Or Reason
So Much Better
Legacy
Rap God
Brainless
Headlights
Evil Twin
Fuck with all these songs
Asshole has a weird beat & it's kind of corny. Eminem sang way too much on Stronger Than I Was & So Far...is cool but it's so strange.
But after one listen, at least a 7.5/10. With only room to go up. Better than Recovery & Relapse.
-
better than relapse? damn...so there is actually real hip-hop on this 1??
-
Just listened through. He's an absolute beast on most of the tracks. Some of the stuff is poppy but he's just murdering flows. It's almost hard to keep up with how many rhyme patterns he'll have in one verse. The album flows well for 78:30 minutes. Tough to fully analyze after one listen. It has a recovery feel at times although the first 2 or 3 tracks kinda take off where MMLP left off. I think that was the idea at least. You can't expect it to sound like 2000, although its too bad he's not on working terms with the bass brothers, it would've been nice to see if they could've picked up where they left off after eminem show.
-
damn!!!!
"so much better" song is a classic!!!
-
Not even looking forward to this but someone slide me a link
Am I the only one who enjoyed Recovery? Well most of it.
-
I will say this, I enjoy most of this album but it's all over the place. The first song is supposed to be Stan part 2, then the skit following it was following that mini-skit in Criminal where he robs the bank & then the next few songs have a dark, serious feel to it, then he throws Skylar Grey & Rihanna on it & got poppy, then he got flat out weird on Stronger Than I Was & So Far...
But AlerG said it, flows are nuts.
-
Monster has grown on me, lyrically Eminem is on point.
Bad Guy.... Real Hip Hop
Rhyme or Reason yeah I fuck with that
So Much Better - nah skip that
Survival You either like it or you don't, personally I think it's decent
Legacy - Another good song
Asshole - The flows are insane!,
No SCREAMING on any of this
Berzerk...I skip that bitch
Rap God - One of my favourite songs
Brainless - Yep, nice
Stronger Than I was - 2 verses of singing, 1 verse of rapping, but actually kind of listenable
So Far...Fuck that crap
Love Game - Fuck That crap
Headlights - An introspective song, i like this too
Evil Twin - Good song but strange song to end an album with
This is so much better than Relapse and Recovery and that piece of crap called Encore.
The flows, and rhymes are extremely good at times, very good album
I see that there those that really don't like this album, and that's cool but the biggest issue for me with his last album was the same god damn voice, the stupid screaming and some at times really corny lyrics.
This isn't Eminem Show, and his previous classic albums but this is going to get bumped a lot by me.
-
Skimmed thru and I'm lost for words regarding where Eminems at in his career, in terms of having any artistic merit whatsoever..it's like that died after Eminem Show
I'll give the album a few spins and post my views for what its worth
-
I'll give the album a few spins and post my views for what its worth
Looking forward to it, man. Sometimes I'm torn in half on how I feel about music & then you just bless me with your incredible intellect & I see the light.
Anyway, I'm willing two bet at least two of the bonus tracks will be crazy heat. Need those.
-
Album is better than I thought. It's not really "Recovery 2". It's kind of a mix of old and new. It's a good album. He's got some tight tracks on there. I like Bad Guy and several others. It's better than I thought. I need to spin this more times to get a better feel but it's solid, overall.
-
When the beat flips at the end of "Bad Guy" he spits the best bars he's spat since The Eminem Show.
-
in terms of having any artistic merit whatsoever..it's like that died after Eminem Show
right on
-
in terms of having any artistic merit whatsoever..it's like that died after Eminem Show
That's how I've felt to this point, still gotta check this album though.
-
from a technical standpoint Em as a rapper is as good as ever...but when I listen to an album I want to hear songs not flows
-
from a technical standpoint Em as a rapper is as good as ever...but when I listen to an album I want to hear songs not flows
Pretty much
Both are equally important, but yeah no albums gonna be anywhere near MMLP level without strong songs
-
The album is rank. Pure garbage.
-
Most of the beats are so popish and bland ... sounds like garbage Alex Da Kid was heavily involved .
I guess Sid Roams produced Evil Twin .
I agree with Cham list minus Headlight
-

Pb is the production on Relaspe was fire ( most of it) but the vocals with that stupid accent ruined almost every track ( minus Deja vu).
Screaming voice and beats were garbage on Recovery.
Vocals on MMLP 2 are solid for the most part but the beats are mostly bland .
Eminem work went downhill after his verses on Cheers
2004-2013 Eminem work = 80% of pure crap
-
recycle bin material
-
Brainless beat is banger. Album is so-so right now.
-
can anyone tell how the fuck he names this album mmlp2????
-
Brainless beat is banger. Album is so-so right now.
Best track on there for me.
You can hear every element of the track is carefully put together. Closest thing to pre-Encore Em.
-
can anyone tell how the fuck he names this album mmlp2????
I'm afraid Eminem ain't got a damn idea about...
-
Deluxe grouprip is out.
-
1. “Bad Guy”
3. “Rhyme or Reason”
4. “So Much Better”
5. “Survival”
6. “Legacy”
8. “Berzerk”
9. “Rap God”
10. “Brainless”
11. “Stronger Than I Was”
13. “So Far…”
14. “Love Game” feat. Kendrick Lamar
15. “Headlights” feat. Nate Ruess
16. “Evil Twin”
1. “Baby”
3. “Groundhog Day”
these are all either decent or solid after giving it one listen... not sure how long these joints will stay in rotation but time will tell
better than his last 2 albums but that doesn't say much still :-\
-
i thought relapse was good, the album kinda had a theme and it didnt feel like he was just rhyming for the sake of rhyming to me
recovery and this feel like he's crossing over to strictly being a pop artist, i can't really get into this
-
This white boy is clearly in the distinct minority but I think this is a really impressive album still
-
Not bad!
-
Another Eminem Pop album... not even 1 song that I like on this whole record and Em's flow is annoying nowadays to me.
Best part of this album, Kendrick Lamar feature.
-
Lyrically a very solid album. Production was pretty terrible though.
Samples were awful for Rhyme or Reason and So Far. He even has a track where he sings the whole time.
6 good tracks on here with my favorite being Legacy. Not as good as Relapse but I liked it more than Recovery. 6.5/10
-
Hook up those bonus tracks.
-
After a second listen I'm really starting to like this album, I was able to pick up on more this time around. It's a total amalgamation of all of his albums into one final album where he spits more intense than ever.
My hats off to this dude, really nobody could reach his level flow, lyric, wordplay, punchline, multi's wise. It's really just an incredible barrage of lyrical display, and some solid tunes.
I read someone didn't like So Far, personally I think the samples are real dope, better than bezerk for sure, and where he goes lyrically is insane. I liked Hailey's Song back off the eminem show but i'm not really feelin the tune he sings this time around. At this times my personal picks are:
1. Bad Guy
2. So Much Better
3. Survival
4. Legacy
5. Asshole
6. Brainless
7. So Far
8. Love Game
9. Headlights
This album for me has serious reply value because i'm going to have to keep going back to catch things I missed on previous listens.
Oh and Rhyme or Reason is iffy with me. I like it for certain reason. Similar to most of the other songs I didn't previously mention.
-
"Baby" sounds like it could be a Dre production
-
Dre mixed 4-5 tracks. Send a link for bonuse's. Album is a grower.
-
After a couple of listens I'm liking the album and it seems to get better the more I listen to it. Disappointed with no Dre production and the Kendrick Lamar collab, that had the potential to be epic.
Good to see Ken Keniff is back ;D

So Dre co-mixed 3 tracks :D
-
Had a couple days to listen to this album now, and gotta say its a dope album. Em still got it. I almost thought I was listening to SSLP when I heard "So Far"...the flows and raps on this album are classic Eminem.
-
good album. far away from MMLP but a good one.
-
It's a 6.5 for me - possibly his best since Emimem Show?
-
On the real, this drops the same day as COD: Ghosts doesn't it? I keep seeing the COD trailer on TV with the Em song
Should we even be saying this is a studio album, or is it purely a marketing gimmick? :D
-
Baby is a Dre beat.
-
Baby is a Dre beat.
According to the wiki Em produced it
And I only believe that because even Dre don't produce beats that weak these days
-
Dont know. Sound Dreish.
-
Dont know. Sound Dreish.
yeah theres another bonus track that sounds like Dre too, Groundhog Day I think
-
this albums pretty good, very different then whats out. cant believe u guys are trashing this album so much. most rappers wouldnt be able to rap over most these beats and eminem is killin em. i think u guys were expecting something different, listen with an open mind
-
Hook up this track with buckshot?
-
everything rick rubin does when he first works with an established artist is usually almost always very polarizing to that artists core fan base...thats the point. hes trying to expand the genres blah blah blah creativity blah blah eclectic blah blah longevity blah blah minimalism.
-
FUCK COD, BF FTW! but, i will cop this .
-
I hoped it was goin to be a hip-hop album. I know music is business, but ironically rappers are going more commercial when they arleady dont have to worry about the money for the rest of their lives.
Im dissapointed by that album, technically it is probably very solid, Em got monster crew behind boards, himself keeping it up, but that wont make me go back to it. Maybe i'll get back to berzerk some time, and 'rap god' is pretty good.
Hip-hop must stay on the street, and that album is made for teenage girls. He could at least didnt name it that way.
-

How would this not be considered a studio album?
As for naming this album what he did, it's because he's covering the same topics he did in 2000 but from a new perspective. 13 yrs later, and after the ups and downs of all those years. This is one of those rare circumstances where there is actually some substance behind the sequel naming convention.
I haven't heard the album all the way through, so don't have an opinion of it. But 21 tracks deep plus the Buckshot joint (22 tracks total) is a great value for 13 bucks or whatever. Looking forward to listening to it
-
"Good luck trying to convince a blonde
That's like telling GWEN STEFANI that she sold out
cause I'm tryna leave , NO DOUBT
In anyone's mind on day, I'd go down
in history, think they know how?"
"It's poetry in MOTION
like FREDDIE ROACH when he's quoting
Shakespear...so what if the insults are revolting"
"YOu cracking a joke, it's laughable
Cause me and LOVE is a bad combiantion
I keep my feelings locked in a vault, so it's safe to say, I'm UNCRACKABLE"
"My heart is truly guarded
full body armor
bitch you just need a helmet, because if you think you're SPECIAL, you're RETARDED"
"Shorty you're fine, but you sort of remind me of a 49ER
Cause you been a GOLD DIGGER, since you were a MINOR"
"Im going back to what got me here
yeah cocky, and can't not been? RUDE OFF, so fear not my DEAR" - This was is ridiculous lol. Rudolph the Red Nose Reindeer.
Em is hilarious. Some of the lyrics might be off (some are hard to understand) but the punch lines are clear.
Em comes up with shit I never heard. Stays fresh.
-
The flow and the rhymes are a rapper on the top of his game.
I actually like the production, it's different to what I expected but Eminem adapts his flows so many times that it just fits.
It seems like the majority think this either sucks or are at best lukewarm about it, but for me this is a keeper ;D
-
I've heard the select few tracks that have leaked but am holding out for Tuesday when I will buy it and give it a proper listen. I have confidence that I will enjoy it since Eminem albums are always entertaining listens and he's got great flows and ridiculously clever lyrics most of the time.
-
This album grew on me besides that track where he sings thats the only one I skipped. the first time I skimmed through this I was like wtf is this shit. But after a long cruise on the hwy today with it tuned up I truly enjoyed it.... In my opinion its better then that wack ass recovery but not as good as Relapse.
-
shit is not as bad as you punk ass niggas said it was.
but that song with kendrick was a fucking letdown

Stays fresh.
yeah sometimes I have to rewind his lines to get the full meaning
"Don't try to FIX ME, I'm BROKE so I DON'T WORK
So are you, but you're BROKE cause YOU DON'T WORK"
LOL

Headlights is classic.

Damn!
He's back ya'll. I've been an Eminem fan since 1999 but went off him with Recovery which I thought was wack. Didn't even really anticipate this album, so I just DL'd it expecting it to be trash. I really really hated all the screaming on Recovery and the singles didn't let me to believe that this has changed.
First up, let's get the negatives out of the way. Eminem still cannot sing to save his life. He can get away with some laid back singing like on "Kim", but when he belts a chorus it is downright unlistenable. He does that enough times on this album to drag it down quite a bit. Also, some of these corny beats...SMH.
With that out of the way, let's appreciate the pure genius of this man. He's more than 40 years old and frankly you'd be hard pressed to find a single album in hop-hop history that can compete with this when it comes to pure flow and rhyming skills. *ANY* fan of hip-hop HAS to be able to appreciate that or you're just a simple hater.
Another positive is that this album is actually both very creative and innovative, which is also some accomplishment for someone who has been in the game for so long. Overlook the terribleness of pop single "The Monster" or the Recovery souding "Survival". Most of the rest of the album Eminem just goes OFF on all sort of beats with all sorts of flows and crazy ass rhymes.
Early faves: Evil Twin, Bad Guy, Legacy, Asshole.
-
It's a decent effort but em needs to hook up with the Bass bros again
-
I only skip Survival and that one where he sings. Fuckin crazy replay value now. Groundhog is crazy, flow is just :o :o. Crazy
-
album is a grower..."Legacy" is my favorite joint right now but too many to name
-
If you swap out "Survival", "The Monster", "Stronger Than I Was", "Berzerk" & "Asshole" with the bonus tracks, you'd have SOMETHING ELSE on your hands.
"Groundhog Day" is nuts.
-
There are some verses that are technically pretty good but overall this is a Top 40 oriented pop record and I'm not about that life.
Everybody peep Blue Chips 2 if you want good, entertaining hip hop.
-
I like it a lot. ;D
-
"Baby" sounds like it could be a Dre production
most likely means it is

i was about to say, sounds like this is his "something else"...tech n9ne is the underground version of eminem careerwise.
mid-90s=classic early work:
infinite, slim shady ep - calm before the storm, the worst
2000 era=finding a niche and a loyal fanbase with character developlemt:
sslp, mmlp, eminem show - anghellic, absolute power, everready
late 2000s hit n miss:
encore, relapse - killer, kod
2010+ sellout:
recovery - all 6s n 7s
current:
return to respectability, still not at peak levels, but showin they still got it:
mmlp2 - something else
pretty eerie
-
Anyone got the full Don't Front?
-
if Em would do Relapse with a normal voice it'd probably sound like groundhog day - too bad he didnt
-
the accents were fine...way better then serious screaming em.
-
I couldn't agree more that it would be awesome to hear em working with the bass brothers again. I feel like they brought the best out of him, and understood what fit him best. Even more so than Dre.

The ones I posted where from one track.

Like a real fan I waited till the day the album was actually released and went and bought it in stores. All I have to say is that after 10 years Eminem is officially back! Another classic!
-
Add in Don't Front, this album is 108 minutes long.
That is an incredible amount of music on this release. For perspective, Biggie's double album was 110 minutes. Pac's was 133 minutes.
-
I have several issues with this album that I`m too lazy to get into now. But in short: cheesy childish beats, horrible singing, corny use of his voice, and overall a lack of direction (the album sounds all over the place). The good points: great lyrics and an impressive show of lyrical technical abbilities.

"Baby" sounds like it could be a Dre production
most likely means it is
its credited as an Eminem production, Dre mixed it though
-
I bought the regular version of the album. The deluxe version of the album was there, but the packaging was different, it was a double disc, but the size of it was somewhere in between All Eyez on Me and Life After Death.. it just looked and felt odd.... So I went ahead and bought the regular one because it actually had the look and feel of the Marshall Mathers LP.
So I don't know who produced the bonus cuts like "Baby"
...but from the looks of it, I only see Dre's name on the album for mixing "The Monster". Unless I'm missing something

yeah.. I didn't get the bonus tracks. I think Rick Rubin really breathed some life into Em on this album. I'm sure Dre was around for a lot of the sessions with Rubin and other producers and maybe even did more that was uncredited

'baby' is easily one of the strongest tracks. the flows aren't too obtuse and the dark beat is reminiscent of his older, better material.
-
I don't usually like it when Eminem screams on tracks, but the last two minutes of "Bad Guy" he does it with purpose and it's amazing.

Yeah, the only bad thing about it is that it finishes too soon, which is kinda ridiculous for a 7 minute track. But that part is so intense, it just screams out for another 8-16 bars or so.

kinda, but more they're tracks that aren't grating and have a similar sound. i'm not really into more outlandish flows, singing or pop crossovers. but based off those picks it's better than recovery. throw in 'deja vu', the relapse bonus tracks (my darling, careful what you wish for) couple of the refill ones, 'ridaz' and you have a solid LP.
-
Last two minutes of Bad Guy is nutssss.

Half way through my second full listen through the album (I waited till it was released and bought it in stores) I have to say my favorite track so far is...
"Legacy"
-
^^^
I've listened to it numerous times and its still my favorite as well
-
Great replay value, class album, some very strong bonus tracks and even the so called pop songs like asshole, so far, while having a poppy vibe are catchy, entertaining, with a mixture of humorous and really sharp rhymes and varied flows. Evil Twin, Bad Guy, Legacy, Rap God, are definitely the stand out tracks though. How many rappers hold down a whole album by themselves (exception of the collaboration) how many rappers would display so many flows, how many rappers can switch up their voice? How many rappers escape the predictable way of delivering punch lines and similies? How many rappers are capable of making actual songs? The lyrics are as good as any you will hear. This is all about opinion but this is the best rapper dead or alive. After the woeful encore, the fairly woeful relapse, the patchy recovery, this is a reminder of just how talented he is. I am sure some will disagree but. whatever, this album came out of nowhere for me and smashe'd expectations

I completely agree.
In terms of flows, this album is second to none. Period. In terms of rhymes and little similes and metaphors being snuck in here and there, it mops up the floor with Em's previous work. It's his smartest, most clever lyrics yet, delivered via consistently incredible flows.
As for how this stacks up to other efforts of his, I will say that on every single one of his previous albums there may be 2-3 songs I have zero tolerance for. I can't say that's the case this time around. Even the singles (Berzerk, Survival), while my least favorite songs on the album, have replay value.
There's something for everyone on this disc. He always makes a serious effort to do that, so that's no surprise. But what is surprising is the technical display on each and every song.
-
Only listened to it once so far but really enjoyed it as a first listen. I think people expecting an album that sounds like the original MMLP might be disappointed but I can see why it is called MMLP2. Em seems creatively focused on this one and the lyrics/flow are incredible.
-

I've listened to it numerous times and its still my favorite as well
The third verse ruins that song for me. He starts reaching with a whole bunch of bullshit lines. But overall, dope song.
That song is actually is actually a prime example of how lame people's opinions are. 150% if that was Rihanna on "Legacy" and sang word for word the exact same way the hook goes it would be automatically labeled "pop trash". But since I don't even know who got credit for that hook it becomes the best song on the album lol.
The last two minutes of "Bad Guy" is the highlight of the album. Other than that "Headlights" is the best song and most complete song on the album.

I duno if u realize this or not, but eminen caters to the pop crowd intentionally when he makes songs wit Rihanna

ive gotta say, having given it a few spins, im pleasantly surprised. Em sounds as focused as ever, at times the lyricism he displays is up there with anything hes ever spit. As for subject matter, its a bit hit or miss, there are a few skippers for sure, and the production isnt all that great. But its definitely an enjoyable listen, and will get a few more spins from me im sure
i mightve missed it, but where is the Dont Front track from? dope to hear Em spitting over some classic Beatminerz
-
you guys are all fucking retarded this is a dope ass album with tons of replay value.
i love it more each time i hear it and berzerk when heard in the context of the album sounds so much better then when it was thrust on the masses as a single.
its a clever, fun and all at the same time dark album...ive been notoriously hard on em for about three four years now but this is one i can fuck with.
i didnt even fuck with his album with royce thats how much i wasnt feeling em but this album changed that.

From what I read, it was offered as an exclusive if you pre-ordered both the "Marshal Mathers 2 LP" and the new "Call of Duty" through Gamestop stores.

when i first heard the album i thought that it sounded weird. i mean i expected a mixed bag, but with a different sound.
good to hear that eminem stepped up his flow though.
shame there's no dre production on it.
can anyone tell how the fuck he names this album mmlp2????
I'm afraid Eminem ain't got a damn idea about...
publicity stunt

actually the hook of Legacy sounds a bit out of place to me.

Haven't seen any mention of "Stronger Than I Was" yet in this thread. I think it has to be one of the top tracks on the album. Its my second favorite right now after "Legacy". And Cham mentioned Rihanna, I was thinking Rihanna could of also done that hook well, but the problem is Rihanna is a sex goddessl, and it might have distracted from the message of the song, so I think that's why the hook was given to a lesser known artist.

C'mon bruh.
Why, because he's singing and not just droppin a series of metaphors? Dude.. I swear you are so paranoid about not showing to much love and respect for anything, you think it will make you look soft or weak. Even when you compliment something Eminem does like "Legacy" it is always a left-handed compliment like, "Ohh it's great EXCEPT the last verse" or "ohh it's great but if Rihanna had been on the hook niccaz would've been dissin" LOL, get some balls!
-
Any word on his sales?
Yeah.. it's selling very well. Just as I predicted. If you remember your dumbass hated on "Bezerk" but yet I told you the shit would blow up and be a huge hit, which it was, thus catapulting Eminem's big comeback as this album is selling great in spite of all the illegal downloading and bootlegging. At the time I didn't know what the album would sound like, but it turns out that "Bezerk" much like the lead singles on his first 3 albums was far from the best song on the album, but it was still a great first single to build anticipation.
The album has projected sales of around 700,000 the first week. Keep hating even though you know you like it. Just keep playing yourself, bro
-
This dumb nigga. You said it would be bigger than the first MMLP. Well that went diamond...good luck, bruh.

lol@singing abilities determining the quality of the song. It's like the fucking idiots who will diss an R&B song because they say, "Ohhh that bitch can't sing", that's just pure hating.
With the way studio technology is these days, they can make just about any good looking bitch sound good on a record. Shit, supposedly Rihanna can't sing live, but that bitch sounds beautiful on a record. She's sold millions and people love her voice on songs.
Bottom line is the quality of the song trumps Em's singing abilities. You don't have to be a fucking opera singer to be dope. What matters is the emotions and lyrics being conveyed, you got top-notch production like that no need to be an opera singer, the shit sounds good regardless of Em's singing abilities. Rappers have been singing their hooks for years and nobody complains, and then Em sings a little on his verses and suddenly the voice is a problem?
You all are haters just looking for a reason to hate.

There's a big difference between those two. If Rihanna can't sing but sounds beautiful on records they simply straighten out her technical shortcomings. Her voice isn't the problem. Eminem might even be able to strike every note correctly BUT that doesn't make his voice sound any better. If in your opinion his singing voice doesn't sound whiny and irritating that's cool but you can't just label others haters cause they disagree. I really can't enjoy Em's singing, not cause he can't sing but because of the way he sounds singing.
Freddie Gibbs for example is surely far from being an opera singer but his voice sounds good on records so it serves the purpose.
You're getting so fucking emotional everytime someone disagrees with your opinion about insignificant shit like rappers that you're never able to look at things objectively.

Exactly. This has absolutely nothing to do with being able to hit notes or studio technology and everything to do with Eminem sounding like nails on chalk when he's belting out songs. He can get away with some laidback singing like on "Kim", but as soon as he starts belting, I'm off.

Jesus man you always come off as so over-defensive. Do people's perceptions of Eminem really bother you that much?

You're one of those people who like everything just because it's from your favorite artist.
Then why was I critical of his last 3 albums? I know Em's career better than anyone else at the forum. Em, even says something on this album about fans being "stuck in a time warp since 2004" and if you check my posts at the forum I've been saying Em hasn't been himself since 2004.

Of course you do know his career better than anyone else on this forum, you're Infinite.
-
Lmao. Infinite always coming off as a straight fanboy bitch when he speaks.
-
Lol @ this nigga though bragging like predicting Eminem will sell records is some bold ass prediction.
Eminem did incredible first week numbers with "Relapse" with just the extremely non-popular single "We Made You" as his promotion.
-
Jesus man you always come off as so over-defensive. Do people's perceptions of Eminem really bother you that much?
I've seen this shit before and I know what the fuck I'm talking about. I've been a fan of Eminem since the summer of 98' when I first read that Dre signed a very talented white rapper from Detroit. That was all I needed to know.
Then in 99' when Em first came out with "My Name Is" there weren't any message boards on the net that were really poppin... But I remember around my way at school everybody saying that Eminem was pop or a gimmick, or that he was a "one-hit wonder", another Vanilla Ice.. I heard it all. I remember I had to go to the concert by myself in the Spring of 99' because everyone said Eminem sucked.
Then the message boards started poppin around the year 2,000 and then things got even more funny. There was a message board called Eminem's Bodyrott forum. So this site is actually dedicated to Em and yet every mutherfucker on the forum is hating on him and calling me a dickrider!
I've seen this shit. Ya'll bumpin his shit but yet all you do is hate on him. And I guarantee that the ones hating are the same ones who hated on Em when the Slim Shady LP first came out and didn't jump on the bandwagon till "Forgot About Dre".
-
Lol. That's the best part. Everybody is showing the album love and you're still coming off as a dickrider. That's how you know you're a herb.
You can read the tears through that last post, crying about how he was Eminem's first fan. Lmaoooo. Too funny.
-
Lol. That's the best part. Everybody is showing the album love and you're still coming off as a dickrider. That's how you know you're a herb.
With friends like you who needs enemies? With fans like you who needs haters?
If you call this showing love then I don't want any part of any love from the likes of you.

Bun B's new album > Eminem's new album

Nobody is hating, bruh. You're just bringing Stan back from the dead.

FINALLY WENT OUT AND BOUGHT IT
I'D LIKE TO APOLOGIZE TO EMINEM FOR TALKIN SHIT ON THIS RELEASE BEFORE HEARING IT...A LOT OF PEOPLE SAID IT WAS "RECOVERY 2" AND I AUTOMATICALLY ASSUMED IT WAS GOING TO BE THE SAME POP TRASH, WHICH WAS WRONG OF ME. I'M USUALLY RIGHT, BUT IN THIS INSTANCE, I WAS WRONG. THE ALBUM IS NICE...STILL SOME HINTS OF THE POPESQUE RECOVERY SOUND AND PRODUCTION VALUE COULDA BEEN BETTER, SO IT'S NOT ON THE LEVEL OF HIS BEST WORK, BUT THE LYRICAL DISPLAY IS SOME OF HIS BEST. WILL LISTEN SOME MORE BEFORE FINAL JUDGEMENT, BUT IT'S DEFINITELY BETTER THAN EXPECTED.
-
Any word on his sales?
Yeah.. it's selling very well.
Just keep playing yourself, bro
lmao
-
Where are all these alleged Eminem haters? I'm seeing almost nothing but praise in this thread. Personally, I love this album, but yes, I can't listen to "Stronger Than I Was". I'm an Eminem fan, but I don't love everything he does (Recovery was wack, for instance).
-
yeah Em is in my top 5 but he should never sing more than the chorus in any song, my ears can't take it

Y'all two are haters for not wanting to hear Eminem try to hit the high notes.

More lies from Cham... if you can find the post where I said MMLP2 would equal the sales or outsell the origional then I will delete my account. Nobody who was around in the 90s before the digital age would say something so stupid, I used to follow the charts weekly in those days. Just copy and paste what I said here or shut fake ass up, and go get dressed for church cause your grandmas comin to town and u know she's gonna want to take pics of her precious grandbaby
...anyway, back to the album discussion, I've now bumped it enough that I've picked out the 5 standout cuts...
1. "Legacy"
2. "Stronger Than I Was"
3. Whatever that joint is about "If you had a brain you'd be famous"
4. That joint about his mom with that dude singing on the chorus
5. The last joint on the album where he goes in on everyone, that track is sick

Brian was dead wrong about his idol. That's embarrassing. If you're going to be a fanboy, at least don't stand there looking like a fool with your pants on the ground.
-
Honestly, "The Monster" & "Asshole" have grown on me. I'll never really get into "Bezerk", "Survival" & "Stronger Than I Was", but other than that he doesn't miss on any other song; including the bonus tracks.

I gotta agree, Brainless is one of my favourites on the album! The beat is so dope, makes me wonder why did em get any visiting producers as he made the best beat of the album ;D Better beats and less ladies singing on choruses and this would have been a classic.. maybe those choruses will grow on me but that was the feeling I got after my first listen.
-
all you guys have brought the album and just keep listening to it again and again forcing yourself to like it.
you could do that with anything that's how the radio works keeps playing the same 20 songs in rotation and before you know
it your singing along to the song you thought was crappy when you first heard it. that bad meets evil ep he did with Royce
was great in my opinion but you guys just glazed over it now he comes out with this wack shit and you guys are dick riding the hell out of it
go figure :-\

I bought the deluxe edition today, hopefully i get time to give it a listen.

Eminem's The Marshall Mathers LP 2 sold more than 793,000 copies in its first week. The album debuted at # 1 overall. Recently, Eminem spoke with Rolling Stone about the making of this album. "I feel like right now I'm probably working harder than I've ever worked in my life," Eminem said. "And I've probably worked harder on this record than any other record aside from maybe the time period during The Eminem Show, which is a little hazy 'cause just so much shit was going on at that time. Just being so busy with The Eminem Show and doing the 8 Mile movie, and the soundtrack and the score to the movie. This is probably the equivalent of that but all focused on the record mostly."
Outside of opening at #1 with The Marshall Mathers LP 2, Eminem also had other albums make leaps on the chart. The album's predecessor, 2000's The Marshall Mathers LP, went from #106 to #30 this week, selling more than 10,000 copies. The project has sold more than 10,766,000 units to date. Eminem's 2002 album The Eminem Show moved up from #100 to #58, selling just under 7,000 copies this week. That album has moved more than 10,270,000 units to date. Eminem's 2010 release Recovery also moved up on the charts, jumping from #99 to #64. The album sold more than 6,000 copies this week. It's sold more than 4,508,000 to date. Eminem's Curtain Call compilation moved up from #157 to #94 with sales totaling more than 5,000 for the week. To date, Curtain Call has sold more than 3,778,000 copies. Eminem's 1999 release The Slim Shady LP, which was not on the Top 200 last week, moved into #115 this week, selling more than 4,000 copies. The project has moved more than 5,433,000 units to date. Eminem's 2004 album, Encore, at #158 this week, sold more than 3,000 copies to move its total up to more than 5,343,000 overall. Eminem's 2009 project Relapse, #159 this week, sold more than 3,000 copies. Relapse has sold more than 2,335,000 units to date.
Damn :o

Those spouting needless hate need to sit down and give this album another listen all the way through. The way he constructs his rhymes is pretty amazing at times. Obviously, the production is a little lacklustre in parts, but for some of you guys the fact Dr Dre didnt produce anything on here instantly taints your view of the album. And in all honesty Dre hasnt produced anything that memorable for a while, so you need to move the fuck on. There are some tracks where it just doesnt work, but as an album its a good listen, and a huge step up from his last few efforts

Finally listened to the album all the way through. Eminem himself was definitely the best he's been in a while, but the production really took away from the complete product for me. Maybe it'll grow on me, but I'm disappointed after all the good things I heard about it. Seems like the verses could have been put to much better use.

I don't know I found the production pretty inspired at some points but maybe not what people would expect from Eminem.
-
I don't know I found the production pretty inspired at some points but maybe not what people would expect from Eminem.
What tracks did you think stood out in that regard?
-
Ok, i just gave the album my first listen(through beats by dre full blast i might add :P ) up until this point the only track that i had heard was "bezerk"
Wow, this shit is dope as fuck! :o 8) :)
Ok, so, the album starts off pretty nice and then i started to see what i was reading/hearing about hooks and eminem singing but then i found myself really feeling hooks and i was feeling "stronger than i was".
Also, i was agreeing with production but then i was like man the production is dope as FUCK! like it really dose sound old school. It really felt like old school hip hop. the beats the samples, the scratches. I love how some of the beats change and then change back and stuff like that.
And, i at first was thinking that this shit actually is NOT as lyrical as people were saying and thinking that he went harder on relapse but then the album hits a point where its just fucking crazy and lyrical as FUCK.
I found that at a certain point the album just gets better and better and better and is so fucking dope. Some pop elements but i overall feel it is old school style hip hop.
The deluxe bonus disc is a bit hit and miss.
So after one listen iam thinking fucking dope. Most albums take a few listens to grow but some that sound great at first then loose appeal quick so i guess i'll find out what happens here.
Now wonder even ice cube gave Eminem praise for this shit 8)
-
yeah on Relapse his lyrics maybe hit a little harder but that was because of the content of the songs (shock rap, horrorcore whatever you want to call it), on MMLP2 he is just old school lyrical
-
Got the deluxe version on CD and have been listening to it the past few days. It's an excellent album that demands repeated listening to get the most out of it, not least to decipher a lot of Eminem's wordplay and appreciate his subject matter.
Most of the songs are great, save for 'Stronger Than I Was' which is my least favourite on the album, and at the moment I can't get into 'Headlights' but I can appreciate it for what it is. 'Berzerk' has grown on me a lot considering I couldn't make it through the whole time the first time I listened to it.
'Brainless', 'Rap God' and 'Bad Guy' are the highlights of the album for me, as is 'So Far' which is goofy but great at the same time. The joint with Kendrick is different sounding and wasn't what I was expecting but I still like it. Each and every one of the bonus tracks could have fitted on here easily, especially 'Wicked Ways' - it's a travesty that this wasn't included somewhere on the standard album because Eminem is at his very best on this one. 'Desperation' maybe should have replaced 'Stronger Than I Was' - I especially like the anthemic, country-like chorus on it.
My only gripes with the album are small considering how much time and effort Slim clearly put into making it. The way that the beat cuts out momentarily on some of the songs to put emphasis on Eminem's words can get annoying sometimes, and there are some words put into some of his lines that pad them out in order to make them rhyme, and as a result Eminem seems to go offbeat for a second or two. But these are only minor annoyances on an otherwise excellent album that I'll be playing a lot for some time to come.

fuck elvis ! if you know your musical history elvis stole rock n roll but the niggas in hip hop ain't goin' for that shit !

I've played this album a ton already and here are my favourites:
1. Bad Guy
No surprise. This seems to be most peoples favourite. The concept is great, the links to Eminems previous material sometimes borderline brilliant and......THOSE last two minutes. OMFG! Eargasms galore. Really, those first five minutes could have been recordings of Eminem on the pooper (which isn't unheard of) and it would still have been saved by that ending. THAT beat, THOSE lyrics, THAT flow, THAT creepy crazy pitched down voice doubling Eminem. PERFECTION. Wouldn't have minded him turning that part into a whole song.
2. Rhyme Or Reason
This has been a sleeper hit for me. Wasn't one of my favourites initially, mostly due to Eminem singing the chorus. But I got used to it. Eminems singing is not bad on this one and the verses are generally NUTS. I especially like the flow he has during the beginning of verses two and three.
3. Evil Twin
This is just Eminem being his sick self rapping over a sick haunting beat. Can't hate on that.
4. Legacy
Gotta love those verses. I dig that detached rapping style and the sound of his voice on this one. Also, it is quite the exercise in rhyming with keeping the same basic rhyme throughout the entire song. And the hook is really nice as well.
5. Asshole
Just a tight track with a different sound.
But really, almost all of this album is good. I didn't like Survival much initially, but in the context of the album it is fine. Berzerk is cool. Headlights, Brainless and So Much Better are all great. Rap God is cool. I had to get used to So Far and Love Game but now I enjoy them.
Only tracks I don't like much are Stronger Than I Was (THAT singing voice) and The Monster (never liked Love The Way You Lie either and it is NOT because of Rihanna. Rihanna is fine, but none of those songs are very good, IMO).
I don't have a strong opinion on the tracks on the bonus album. I don't dislike them, but I don't think any of them particularly stand out (despite listening to them plenty of times) so I think leaving them off the main album was the correct choice.
Overall, I think this album is MUCH better than Recovery, Encore and Infinite. Time will tell how it stands up to The Slim Shady LP, The Marshall Mathers LP, The Eminem Show and Relapse. All those albums are great to me, hard to compare.

Dude, you can't "steal" a musical genre. Yes rock'n'roll has black roots. Everybody knows that. Everybody also knows that back in those days blacks were being heavily discriminated against. All decent people are appalled by that. But that really doesn't have anything to do with recognizing Elvis or not. I'm not into rock'n'roll at all, but nobody can deny the iconic status of Elvis Presley in music history.

even those of us who "know this hip hop shit" can be biased as fuck*. TI is not as elite of a rapper that you think he is but he was lucky enough to get in on the good years when hip hop was profitable...the fans from that era show their respect in traditional fashion by buying records. wayne and eminem both have that going for them. their fan base is one that is somewhat accustomed to buying records...
trouble man was a good album but kind of forgettable in this age of microwave rap when you got the young fans who dominate the internet (but NEVER show up for soundscan) and usher in new rapper after new rapper after new rapper and none of them even have the chance to build a career because the new culture indicates your only as hot as your first single. these new fans only support a rapper for a minuite after what ever unique asthetic they bring to the game gets old they will be on to the next aggin (see 2 chainz as an example)
*the rapper im probably a fanboy for isnt even a rapper but a producer...manny fresh. all hardcore rap fans got one.

i havent used that word to describe a hip hop album probably since...manny freshs last solo ;D
im kidding lol
TI ranks 6th in top 20 rappers of the 2000's article that just came out on complx today and thats a great look but i bet you feel like thats serious disrespect.
him rankin' 6th outta 20 is cool it just solidify what i've been sayin' here all along. really though that trouble man is incredible it has all the right ingredients of a t.i. album...wait until the next one drop. 8)

run the jewels >>>> mmlp2
agreed
I also can agree Trouble Man > MMLP2 even though that's a wild comparison lol
-
WOW with those numbers no wonder Eminem ain't motivated to put out better music, shit sells anyway
exactly.
Is that why T.I. can't see those sales and still acts like he's trying hard to put out a good song?
t.i. puts out quality and trouble man shits on mmlp 2 btw. i'd rather listen to an artist that sells the amount of records t.i. sell or less and continue to buy quality than a muthafucka like eminem sellin' more and deliverin' shitty albums.
u seriously didnt think any tracks on mmlp2 knocked?

I like what rick rubin and no i.d. constructed as far as production goes but other than that hell no.

Trouble man was a solid album. I think most people here know T.I. isn't a bum or anything. It's mostly fools talking shit to you, knowing you love him. T.I. is tight. I used to like him since waaaaaay back. Before all this shit. I was bumping his first albums. I was on that TRAP MUSIK. I kinda stopped following him because he started making too much of that commercial sound but I always thought he had skills. Obviously I don't think he's anywhere near Eminem in terms of skills but T.I. is tight. I like his style, (I refuse to say SWAG) with his ATL accent and he's melodic. He pretty smart with his rhymes. He's a natural. He seems to be the type of dude that rhymes naturally and rides the beats with rhythm. I don't have any specific favorite albums but I have abunch of tracks where I like how he spits. He got down on that "Grand FInale", on that Lil Jon album. I thought he held his own, with guys like NAS, JADA, Cube and Bun B. T.I. can bring it. I also like his verse on that song with GAME called Pushing it. T.I. has that natural ability to make hit songs. I got love for T.I. but don't like too much of the commercial shit.

TI is just a slightly better then mediocre rapper whos rode the crest of his regions dominance over the years
he didnt put atlanta on, he didnt invent trap music and he kind of started the trend of halfway credible rappers doing reality shows which i guess is a good OR bad thing depending how you look at it.
trouble man did good but im not sure he wants to keep testing them waters...id wanna leave the game on top and some of his grand hustle artists are bubbling again finally he OWES it to them to concentrate on their career a little bit. he owes it to himself to build his label a little bit i get the impression hes one of the artists that dont wanna see anyone under him shine more then he does sometimes it seems like he stalls niggas careers out as the buzz is accumulating. BG, Dro, Bob has issues with grand hustle as a label at times thats known. id really like to see him develop his label a little bit more.

I give TI props for being consistent. As a pure MC he's nothing spectacular but he does some nice things and has steadily put out quality material for a long period of time (outside of No Mercy) which is more than you can say for most mainstream guys.

eminem imo only has 2 classics.
relapse and marshal mathers lp 1
everything before and after that had plenty of bright spots (fuck recovery though) but those albums TO ME are masterpieces.
i thought eminem was overrated when i heard his first album after his second album i believed.
relapse is a personal favorite of mine for personal reasons. my best friend just died of an overdose the year it came out and i was dealing with my own issues with death and flirting with addiction. i was fucking with lean and roxycodone and shit. after suffering an injury opiates were made available to me pretty much on tap. my metabolism was notoriously slow back then due to an untreated thyroid issue so the half life of drugs in my body was unnatural therefore i never really had to suffer with withdrawls and fiending or anything but my tolerance was pretty high for a while.
the only person in the world i really talked to about it openly was my bassplayer and dear friend tutka who also posts here

em has sold a lot of records that is true. all the awards and hit records don't mean shit to me anyone can have a hit and sell as many records as eminem sold wit the right machine behind them. it's about quality hip hop records, bodies of work that you can play from top to bottom and play years from now. eminem is a gimmick he disrespects his mother and pop stars for attention and y'all listen to him cause he's white and dre fucked wit him had he been black we wouldn't even be havin' this discussion. t.i. built his own career he didn't need a dr. dre to put him on although it would have helped and maybe he would have sold ten million copies like em or 50. musically tip has dropped albums and progressed whereas em dropped albums after the first three (which were dope) and became a caricature of himself. listen to the lyrics and really tell me u don' think these rhymes are hot - http://youtu.be/359na4NeaVA

Obviously that's where some of his mainstream attention comes from...but the difference is that hip hop heads also recognize how talented he is. Like NIK said, if people only listened to him cause he was white everyone here would be talking about Mac Miller, Makelmore, etc, and that's obviously not the case.

yeah. Puffy is pushing Machine Gun Kelly and he ain't doing shit.
Eminem and his "machine" are pushing Yelawolf and Yela hasn't blown up really....radioactive was a big flop.
the only other white rappers from the mid/late 90s who could have blown up are Cage, Necro and Ill Bill. and maybe Copywrite if he wasn't such a pussy.

The bonus songs are better than some of the album songs. How did Better Than I Was, The Monster, Asshole, Rhyme or Reason, and Love Game make the actual album while Baby, Groundhog Day, Desperation, Beautiful Pain, and Wicked Ways end up as bonus cuts?!

this thread turned into pure comedy. Classic Material, u know i respect u, mainly for your interest in the Jamla camp, but some of the shit you said in here is just nonsense

Your opinion may be the truth to you, but not to others. Because its just that. YOUR opinion. Trying to force your view on everyone else, and act as defensive as you do when people disagree with you isnt a good look.

Adele is targeting a different audience. Our parents generation obviously isn't up on digital downloading in the same way the young fans of Eminem are.

I'd be surprised if em's audience didn't range between 25-40 now.

Nah, she's at something like 27 million. However, she probably WOULD have been at 40 million in a different time period. That album is certainly one of the biggest releases of my lifetime (born in 1975).

Scarface has new album coming next year . Scarface is loyal to label who made him unlike T.I. Scarface,The Geto boys & rap-a-lot records made the south . So without Scarface & The Geto Boys their would be no T.I. . T.I. did not make shit . Scarface was the head of Def Jam south . Scaface has worked with all the greats . He has worked with 2Pac,Ice Cube, Dr Dre, Master P, Jay-z , Beanie Sigel, Too Short, Ludacris, Nas, Slim Thug, Young Jeezy, UGK, Spice-1 , Raekwon, Game, Tech N9ne, & Snoop Dogg. . T.I. can not say that at all . T.I. owes Scarface.

Album has great replay value. 'So Far' is slowly becoming my favourite joint on the album, Rick Rubin killed it with all the beat switch-ups and throwback samples thrown in there.
I still think that the beat to 'Brainless' is too good for Eminem to have produced on his own, to my ear it sure sounds like Dre may have touched it. Either way its one of the best tracks on the album.
-
DX: You gonna have Eminem put some verses to them beats?
Scarface: Hell nah! [Laughs] I’m not fin to go in there fuckin’ with that white boy, man. [Laughs]
DX: You’re not gonna make the “Renegade” mistake.
Scarface: Hell nah! What the fuck you mean, go in there fuckin’ with him, for what? [Laughs] But I guess that’s how I feel about – I guess that’s how a lot of rappers feel's.
Scarface on Eminem.

DRE PROBABLY DID CO-PRODUCED ON A LOT OF THE SHIT...BUT EMINEM WAS A GOOD PRODUCER IN HIS DAY, AS WELL. HE WAS TRAINED BY THE GOAT.

I take it as he's showing love and admitting eminen isn't touched lyrically.

Massive replay value, I agree. The only tracks I don't listen to are Stronger Than I Was and The Monster. Not that The Monster is BAD as such, but it basically feels like a Rihanna track with Eminem pasted on. Eminem doesn't really do anything noteworthy on it, IMO. So while the song is a big pop hit, I'm not sure it really is doing the album any real favors. I mean, judging solely from the singles, you would NOT expect this album to be anywhere near as good as it is.
Evil Twin just gets better and better. That is a HARD ass track. I can't see any hip-hop heads not fucking with that cut.
Bad Guy is a straight up classic. Following up Stan looked like a doomed project, but Eminem pulled it off.
To me Brainless totally sounds like an Eminem production. The drums in particular are typical of Eminem productions.

"Beautiful Pain" is a bonus cut, so I doubt that. But in all honesty "Headlights" would be a good single. I just hope he also puts out "Bad Guy".
-
Headlights has been in heavy rotation for a couple weeks now in the Detroit area, as well as the Rihanna song and I've heard life's good a bunch too.

damn...they release a ganga singles nowadays...4 songs on the album are already a single and were not even a month in.

It could also be because its Detroit. They played the album front to back for a day straight on 95.5 here the week it was released.

i thought u were in canada....but naah, either way, there has already been 4 albums released for this album. "survival", "bezerk", "rap god", and "monster".
-
"Bad Guy" would be a cool single for me. But it's too long for the radio. I can't even see them wasting time on a video for it, but I hope they will.
Rhyme or Reason would make a good single.
-
they should just do "brainless", "evil twin", or "so much better"...three best cuts on the album

i listened to this album all day on the freeway today...real dope listen
this shit shits on pretty much everything thats dropped this year.
