This is the correct version..
FUN fact:
05. You & I (Feat. Samuel Christian)
Produced By Samuel Christian & J Wells
Samuel Christian = Shorty aka Sam Chris aka Johnny Bap
(Un)Known for his tracks with The Game - Doctor's Advocate (feat. Busta Rhymes) & L.A.X. Files
and Big Boi feat. Too Short & George Clinton - For Your Sorrows
He's never credited, even though he does a lot of hooks.. and he uses different names, it's almost like he doesn't wanna get his name out there.

Yeah, for some reason, he goes under a lot of different names. He killed those Game tracks. He's in "for your sorrows?" don't recall that; u sure?
Also, he did the hook on "Muzik" for Knoc turn al
-
I'll listen tomorrow. Way passed my bedtime. Will give you my opinion then too.
-
if this is grouprip...please a PM?

i have a feeling this is going to be bad. But i'll DL anyway

The track is leaked as "Big Boi Ft George Clinton & Too Short - For Your Sorrows", but I thought immediately that there's no way George Clinton could sing like that, so I Googled it, and several forum posters say it's Samuel Christian.. I guess he's shy.
-
I don't see why Big Boi would lie though. He keeps saying George Clinton. And to me, it sounds way more like George Clinton than Samuel Christian.
-
George Clinton is there as well, but he just does the harmonizing/talking from 2:50..

Greatest lyricist Hip Hop has ever known. Definately copping this!

Anyone not feeling RA's voice on this?
(Is it me or does his pitch sound like a complete new MC on certain song's..)
Anyway after the first listen, It's Heat.
-
link?
:nawty:
-
After a listen, the listen is really coo but not what I expected some bangers but some annoying song and that because of those garbage ass r&b hooks
-
Okay, I'ma review this shit for sure now that CDQ is out.. Gimme a minute though cuz I'm on a rock binge right now.
-
I'm sorry but this album is garbage. The production is not even mixtape quality and Rakim's nursery rhyme flow just sounds so wack now, because you really focus on how wack the lyrics are
-
who are all these features and producers?
-
There's some great sampling but the mixing is hit or miss. Rakim's voice does sound altered on some of tracks. It's off putting.
-
Gotta say im a little disappoined.
-
Even at Ra's worst he' still better than most
-
I really hate to pull the engineering card, but....
Everything else is fire though.
-
its a pretty good album....rakim can still rhyme and freak the beat way better than most but the production isn't what i'd expect him on. it's lacking any real funk/bounce and is very one dimensional with the piano sounding beats.
the intro track 'how to emcee' might be a deliberate throwback, but its the kind of bounce that i like to hear and that rakim sounds great over.
-
Suprise suprise
a rapper from the fuckin 80s aint dope in 2009
but of course white dudes think they HAVE TO think everything this dude drops is gold cuz it'll make them seem more hip-hop knowledgeble
here it comes
"rakim >>> (*insert something* ie better than 99% today, rakim >> yo fav rapper, this album is better than most shit today etc) ;D
-
The album is weak. Couple of standout tracks, the rest is pretty bland; either because of the cheap production or Rakim's obvious weak flow (just doesn't have that natural flow anymore).
-
damn was just about to throw this on, must say now im not sure if i want to :-\
-
Listen people....Rakim is in his 40's and still doing it. What did ya'll expect? All i'm reading is the BS about production but Rakims lyrics has always been the main attraction. Over the last decade or so production has taken a front seat but rhymes has always been HIP HOP. Where was the production in the park...where it all started. Thats where Ra comes from. The album is totally left from what is out there....and thats a good thing. Stop fucusing on the beats...and they are not bad by the way.....and focus on the content. His flow is STILL tight and is content is revolutionary...again. Who else is rapping like this? Who else is talking about rebuilding rap? Who else is using words instead of cursing all the time? Who else is stayn true instead of fronting like they a real gangsta. I havent heard one Nigga, Bitch, ho, dick, pussy...on this album but yall say its garbage, this man is what HIP HOP should be and his trying to show you that, dont be so shallow!!!!!!. Rakim is the truest Left. Appreciate the talent and stop comparing him to the current rappers. See, thats why lil Wayne can sell so many records, cuz you people love his beats not his lyrically ability, his content. Now would you rather have lil Wayne, Guccie Mane and all those cats or Rakim. Lets grow up people....Rakim did! LISTEN to the WORDS that are coming out of his mouth.
-
stop going on an anti-beat rant, the music is as essential to hip as the lyricism.
-
im driving im a big jeep cause im just so street yeah it's that deep is not exactly lyricsm to me
-
is it worth at least downloadin?
-
Very, very good album to me.

nice rant, but music is about music. they could be the flyest rhymes I'll never hear if the beats are wack. that goes everyone.

You are just a hater in every sense of the word. If someone hates Game, you hate them. If Game hates one person's camp, you hate them. Someone doesn't accept your fucking opinion, you hate.
After a few spins, I am still loving this album. Rakim at his worst is better than most at their best.
-
i heard the preview on Amazon.com and it's not that bad, actually i like a few of the tracks (especially the production). but Ra's voice and flow ain't gold no more, everybody has to take a back seat someday. if this was my close out album i'd be satisfied. i know i went on a rant earlier (and still feel 100% on that) but it's worth a listen. He probably should've cut it shorter tho *7-10 tracks*, i cant imagine any1 playing this album front 2 back without wanting to hit that skip button on a couple of tracks. maybe him, krs1, and heavy d should do an album with marley marl beats and whoever was on this album. i wouldn't give it the time of day but im sure some ppl will.
The Stans need to chill bcuz this album aint that serious... just b real
-
It's a dope album. Yeah it could have been better but a dope album nonetheless.

If lyrics are all that matter then why are you listening to rappers instead of spoken word artists?

Not what I said....my point is that beats are definately a big part of hip hop and album popularity but over the last decade they have become more important than the lyrics. If you don't have certain producers nowadays your album is considered wack. No one listens to content anymore....case in point...the Seventh Seal has more content, substance and rhymes skills than anything thats been out for the last 10 years but all people are saying is the producers are weak. The Seventh Seal has minimal collabos and no big name producers....name any other rapper that can get away with that today. Rakim has proven at 40 plus that rhyme skills stand the test of time...beats get played out after so long but content and the message lives on. Thats why is made this album. Dont we have enough bs to listen to?
Rakim puts the ART in artist...because of the creativity behind mic. His beats are not mind blowing but the lyrics are, and i'll take that over a lil wayne produced by Dre album any day. But hey, im just a listener man....what are u?

Holy Are You
Documentary Of A Gangsta
Wont Be Long
tracks that im feelin after first listen

I'm a big fan of Rakim and waited patiently for the album for years. And honestly after one listen it doesn't jump out at me like the 18th letter did 12 years ago,
chill

after one listen it doesn't jump out at me like the 18th letter did 12 years ago,
pretty much. hopefully its a slow-burner 8)
-
better than I expected. Nice fresh production, rakim was cool too. only listened it once tho, im gonna keep it in rotation for sure.
-
I really liked the album. For the people who didn't, have you ever been Rakim fans to begin with? I thought production was solid and he still brought it lyrically. Only thing that caught me off-guard was that No Doubt sample on the last track.
-
who wants the pm?
this would be appreciated fam

I didn't even know that was a No Doubt sample. To be honest, it sounds like a fly soul sample to me.

sigh....
I'm not happy with this album.

please rakim still spits better then snoop or anybody from long beach. this album is better then anything lbc has put out in last 10 years
-
Good solid album. Rakim proves lyrically that he still is the GOAT. 8)

I been getting into this album this past week but finally listened to it all the way through at work today... pretty dope album, this is my first Rakim solo album I've heard
best tracks IMO: "Walk These Streets", "Documentary of A Gangsta", "Won't Be Long", "You & I", and "Holy Are You" = :o,

Ah man... I highly recommend you pick up his other 2 solo albums. "The 18th Letter" is pure dopeness (and you'll further see why decades of fans have called him the "God MC"). "The Master" wasn't as good but it had a few bangers, including the DJ Premier produced "When I Be On The Mic" :o one of my favourite Rakim songs!
And if you get blown away by his lyricism after a few listens (believe me it takes more than one listen to get everything he says) I would cop the joints he did with Eric B. back in the day and really see how he inspired SO many MCs today (most of which are concidered "greats" or "legends" now) 8)
Man I envy you "How High"... you have a chance to listen to so much classic Hip Hop from a legendary MC for the first time... I wish I could start over again, haha. And +1 for sharing that this is your first album hearing from Ra... most kids these days claim to have heard all the classics, any and everything when in reality they've only heard Eminem, 2Pac, Kanye, 50 or Lil' Wayne ::)
CHUUCH

Working for you is dope. I like how they flipped the sample. It's from William Bell's Forgot To Be Your Lover. Dre sampled the piano from the same song for Grow Up.

I had Paid In Full a few years back and was bumpin' that for awhile, haven't heard it in a minute though
yeah don't get me wrong I listen to a shitload of a music and have a wide range in taste, but there is a few artists here and there I never peeped their full discography, Rakim being one of them... but I'm gonna peep those albums, +1 8)
-
yeah this was a let down if not a big let down
was expectin this to be the best album over the decade from the best rapper alive
-
For those who want more Rakim tracks:

-
very very solid album! i got it the day it was released, a week later im still bumpin it, even harder this week than last. For all the people that arnt feelin it, are you listening to the words? At a first listen it was drowned out by this Tracey Horton guy on so many tracks, but theres actually a couple hes good on. i think a majority of the album is good, i can bump it straight through. heres my favorite tracks:
Walk These Streets
Wont Be Long: kind of an inspiring song, he spits the truth. its about his struggle in the game and then other common struggles today
"with these days of recession, we aint safe yet
pray, a paycheck away from the great depression,
major stressin, but we wait for blessins,
long as the federal reserve still paper pressin"
Holy Are You
Satisfaction Guaranteed: comparing music to drugs, calling it a drug. Its my drug of choice so i really enjoy this song.
"go on tour its like im trafficin drugs
who want musical narcotics, the R got it
bomb product cuz yall profit when yall cop it"
Working For You: good song for the ladies, not putting em down or trying to be sexy, just a man
Message In The Song
Put It All To Music: very cool song about music, how important it is, what we do to it
"what ever your personal prefence is,
Ra be rollin ghetto music
the personal therapist, music is theraputic
sit back in a chair and vibe out, or just relax and
clear your mind out, and the beat'll make you put it in gear and ride out"
Still In Love: in love with hip hop "if musics like women im whipped like a nymph"
anyway don't be fooled by the track titles and corny reviews by others ::) , check this shit out
