The Commercial Appeal has learned that the Grizzlies have traded Pau Gasol to the Los Angeles Lakers for center Kwame Brown, rookie guard Javaris Crittenton and first-round draft picks in 2008 and 2010.
The decision was made that the Grizzlies could no longer move forward with Gasol on and off the basketball court.
The deal allows the Grizzlies to gain salary cap relief, as Brown is in the final year of a deal that pays $9,075,000.

Please God let this be true
-
hmm, i wonder how this'll impact my fantasy teams
-
holy fuckin shit! ;D ;D
-
WTF, shit LOLOL, if this is true I'd personally assassinate Jerry West if I were a Grizzlies fan.
-
I'm hoping Portland can steal Crittenton or Conley from Memphis if the Harris deal falls through
-
It's good, but I fucking hate the fact that we lose Critt.
-

yeah he's defnitiely got some potential, but getting an all star quality center is exactly what he need. kwame's pretty much a non factor since his contract's up this year, i'm sure the grizzlies will dump him or resign him for the league minimum next year, lol
-

true, he has soooooo much potential, we'll slap ourselves later for this, but THANK THE LORD FOR GETTING RID OF KWAME BROWN OH DEAR GOD PLEASE.

A journalist's opinion on the impact Gasol will make on the Lakers:

Brian Cook + Maurice Evans for Trevor Ariza
Kwame Brown + Javaris Crittenton for Pau Gasol
Mitch Kupchak = GM of the fuckin year!!!!!
-
seriously, but this is still a rumour, it isn't official til we see it on an official news site like espn or some shit
-
so is it official?
-
no

It's pretty damn official.
-
Ric Bucher just reported it on ESPN News ;D
But he also sad that Bynum will probably be out longer than expected...possibly even the rest of the season :-\
Andrew Bynum / Chris Mihm / DJ Mebenga
Pau Gasol / Ronny Turiaf / Vladimir Radmanovic
Lamar Odom / Luke Walton / Trevor Ariza
Kobe Bryant / Sasha Vujacic / Coby Karl
Derek Fisher / Jordan Farmar

damn i just woke up and i turned onto sportscenter and i saw the trade go thru.I couldnt belive it we actually got Paul Gasol for Kwame damn thats crazy.Javaris is pretty good but we really dont need him and to have Gasol in the lineup its damn well worth it. 8)

The Lakers are also expected to send Marc Gasol, one of their 2007 second round draft picks and Pau's brother, to the Grizzlies. Separately, the Lakers are expected resign guard Aaron McKie and send him to the Grizzlies to help make the salaries match up. McKie played 10 games for the Lakers last season.
Brown
Crittenton
McKie
Marc Gasol
2008 1st
2010 1st
Not as much of a steal as originally reported but still a good deal for the Lakers
-
thank you, just made my day
-
big pick up for the Lakers. If they gave up those draft picks also then they gave a lot for Gasol. But this is still a good move. They werent going to win a championship without picking up at least one other big talent to help Kobe. And waiting around for 2008 and 2010 draft picks to pan out isnt an option.
-
The main thing is they got rid of Kwame for a damn good player in Gasol. Smart move by the Lakers.
-
how is that official? its a blog, and it doesnt even confirm it in there
Dude...it's official. Check every fucking sports news site.
-
It's good, but I fucking hate the fact that we lose Critt.
-
shut the fuck up ho, we already established that, anyways, words can not describe the joy i feel right now, getting rid of that cocksucker kwame makes me almost happier than acquiring gasol, hell i would have been happy if we traded kwame for ruben patterson
-
is there anyone more worthless than Kwame Brown?
-

^^Patterson isn't on a roster, dumbfuck.

ToNe aka Jookin

Very unfair trade. If Kobe isn't going to contend with this team, it's his fault. He can't bitch about having Gasol, Bynum and Odom in his starting five.

for once i agree

nah cuzz, some of these lakers homers will always find excuses to make up for shiet. hahahah@ them winnin a championship this year. this shiet is a good trade on paper but we'll see how he fits into the team and if kobe can actually co exist with another above average player while still having to be the leader. gasol is a pretty weak defender in the post too. his numbers will drop now that he's not the main part of the offense.
-
fuck. >:(
-

well, Kobe is a little fag so I'm sure in the end he'll think of something
oh, go Lakers!
-
i like this trade a lot.
1. kwame =gone....praise jesus
2. critt on the lakers was going to get lost and forgotten about with fisher and farmar in front of him, he needs a team like the grizzlies to blossom on.
3. we get a WORLD class player and leader on the team.
4. this should help us get that late season push we NEEEED.
the only thing i don't like is the two first round picks, those could be crucial down the road. but i understand where they were going with this. the grizzlies can't draft so it's not a big deal
-
Oh Jesus Christ!!
-
pretty good trade for the lakers. brown is trash and is not really needed. critt has a tremendous amount of upside, but with fish & farmar on the roster, its not a huge loss. I've heard M.gasol is pretty good, so will see how that turns out. The 2 1st round picks is what it is. Who cares about Mckie.
Good trade. Will keep kobe happy about bringing another star to L.A
lakers are in good shape for the playoffs if bynum returns..would suck if thats true (bout em possibly bein out for the rest of the season).
-
Oh, man! Fuck it, i won't sleep no more tonight.
-
for those who are still saying its unofficial
http://www.nba.com/
the dopest thing about discussing this move at this board is that so many of us laker fans (such as myself lol) were always talkin about how good a fit gasol would be for the triangle offense as opposed to sorry ass JO... and now we finally do get gasol? almost too good to be true
-
If Mitch acquires somehow my man NAVARRO too....
Shit that's MORE than a dream.
I'm sad for Crittenton, shit. But i can't stop celebrating this move!!!

Hell yeah. In the summer I was actually hoping for Gasol a lil more than Garnett for the simple fact that his contract is unbelievably reasonable. I wanted us to trade Odom + Bynum for him...can't believe we got him without giving up either (or Farmar).
-
memphis basically did us a favor for taking kwame brown, lol, i'm dead serious
-
good, now i dont have to catch a case for murkin Kwame...

:o

LOL at anyone complaining about losing Critt .. this team at 100 percent will have so many options .. cant fuck with that team 8)

lol, i was down to part with either odom or bynum for gasol, but i thought losing both would be giving up way too much. i was even skeptical give up the two of them for KG.
but look wut happens in the long run... we get to keep both and then add gasol?! jerry west MUST still have some pull left in memphis lol.
odom + bynum + gasol > KG. thank god the lakers front office was more patient than the fans were
-
Critt had no Future Here, As a Laker.. (IMO)
Kwame will make more of an impact when he has no pressure.
I was just Glad we didn't lose Farmar or The Machine... 8)

LMAO

Good stuff... if Mitch keeps this up, I will have to stop bashing him. All of the guys on TNT right now are hailing this trade and calling it Grand Theft... 8)

They're saying he might play Sunday. 8)

this road trip might not be so long after all 8)

This is huge. Bulter turned into Brown... which sucked... but Brown turned into Gasol... which is fuckin' tha shit. If Bynum does comeback this year... Lakers=2008 champions. Lakers/Celtics finals... all is right again.
-
LOL at anyone complaining about losing Critt .. this team at 100 percent will have so many options .. cant fuck with that team 8)
Man you can't immagine how happy i am today. I couldn't even sleep well tonight, because i was so excited. I traded Gasol to NBA 2k8 and played a quarter against the Celtics, LMAO. Just to see how impressive is a starting five with Farmar, Kobe, Lamar, Gasol and Bynum. What a good way to start a new day, today. But you know, i loved Crittenton. Dude got skills, and he'll end up having a great career. But fuck it, you can't have a GREAT player like Gasol for nothing. If Crittenton is the price, it's a good one.
Yes, man!!! :)
Oh, any news on Navarro? Any hope he could sign with the Lakers too? He signed to Memphis JUST BECAUSE of Gasol. Oh, and i've heard Marc Gasol doesn't want to play in Memphis anyway, and he'll re-join the Lakers.
If we can get him back....
MITCH GM OF THE YEAR. I was always been one of the few ones who has always supported him. Now it's payback time, Mitch. Get your credits :)

The Lakers better win the fuckin championship now. Giving away Crit + 2 first rounders? I don't know about all that. The Lakers will be tough, but I think they were going to be legit w/ just Kobe and Bynum and a good pg like farmar.
I don't think this move was necessary, and I think they gave up too much.
-
I think the FO has finally understood we are in a winning now mode ... I agree that 2 1st rounders can be a lot but still we cant have a better trade than this one ... with the frontcourt of 3 players who each can grab 10 rbs night in and night out is a HUGE thing .. we have a very deep bench , lots of players who can play different positions... plus how you gonna defend that team .. you cant double three players at the same time ..
-
Those 2 draft picks are going to be late first rounders and Crittenton was never gonna have a chance to develop with Fisher and Farmar ahead of him. We have enough young players as is, Gasol is a fuckin blessing.
Today fuckin rocked. I woke up to this trade, had some panda express, then got some fellatio to top the night off. Let me go to sleep now before someone / somethin fucks it up.

Bynum, Walton, and Farmar are the Lakers' future. They are more then capable of continuing the glory of the Los Angeles Lakers for years to come. Critt was going to be buried on the bench until Fisher or Farmar left anyways.
Fisher, Bryant, Odom, Gasol, Bynum in the starting 5= A dream come true. 8)

Finally, some respect for J-Critt...While I think it's a stretch to say the Lakers gave up too much, the deal isn't as lopsided as people are making it out to be. J-Critt definitely has a great future, but first round picks don't mean much when you're a team that builds for the now. Gasol is an amazing player and this move will only inspire him to play even better. Lakers are now unquestionably elite contenders at the top of the west...PeACe
-
As others said , Critt would have been wasted here .. cant get significant PT behind Kobe at the 2 and regarding the PG position Im hella happy with Jordan potential, I mean this guy is a winner and a hard worker .. look at the improvments he has already made between his rookie and Sophomore season .. dude makes lil mistakes running the offense and the way he improved his J is just IMPRESSIVE .. Critt showed some flashs of brilliance without a doubt but he is a little too careless when it comes to taking care of the ball and too many useless highlights type of moves .. of course hes just a rookie so hes gonna improve but if he had THAT much of potential, the FO wouldnt have trade him .. at the end of the day, he can be an All Star but he wont be a top 5-10 player in the league , hes no Kobe, no Lebron ect ..

Lakers are now elite team alongside Suns, Mavs, Spurs, Celtics & Pistons ... & memphis is definitely a contender for worst team in the league for years to come despite the first "high" picks they'll have (even if navarro & gay are great).
-
My man Navarro won't stay. Watch him joining the Lakers ASAP.
-
LoL@Jerry West ruining the entire franchise to help the Lakers. The fact that he's still alive proves that Memphis has no fans.
-
I agree that Crittenton has great potential but Memphis just seems like a better place for him now, LA's a top West team and they've already got Fish and Farmar, this will give him a chance to develop a little quicker
-

What are you talking about? They got an exceptional young talent in Javaris Crittenton and 2 future first round picks...There's been WAY worse trades for unhappy superstars.
-
My man Navarro won't stay. Watch him joining the Lakers ASAP.
I'm not a big fan of Navarro...He's a good shooter in a point guards body. We already have a bigger version of him in Sasha.

Ummm...homie...Sasha is currently playing better than Navarro. I know Navarro did great in Europe, but his game isn't translating that well into the NBA...as of now.
Sorta reminds me of Sarunas Jasikevicius

Im glad this trade happened! unexpected but its obvious lakers gm is doin anything neccessary to push this laker team to the limit this year!.. the lakers aint got no excuses now i dont think theyll be a better laker team then this in the few coming years so minus well take advantage of it.. all i know is when bynum comes back and with gasol being in the line up for the playoffs theill do some serious DAMAGE!

^Thanks to Kobe. 8)
Uh... No. Using your MLE to sign a veteran is not something revolutionary to GM's. Kupchak has done it before with McKie. It just worked out well this time. I'll give Bryant credit for the Ariza trade, because he did cause the front office to look for opportunities. The Lakers weren't even looking for Gasol until Bynum went down. http://www.latimes.com/sports/basketball/nba/lakers/la-sp-lakers3feb03,0,160150.story So if Bynum never got injured, the Lakes would have looked for a trade. I've got to give the most props to Kupchak.

Wrong...Kupchak said the talks for Gasol have been going on since the Summer...He just pushed harder for it when Bynum went down, which is something he's not known for doing...Just give Kobe credit for pushing our management and getting Kupchak off his ass. Also, nothing happened to "work out". Everyone, besides you, knew that the Fisher signing was great for the Lakers right off the bat...The signings of McKie and Radmanovic, on the other hand, were two heavily criticized moves when they took place. Fisher provided veteran leadership and proved to be on top of his game in the playoffs with Utah, so it was a different story. I can't see our season going the same this year if it weren't for Kobe's motivation...PeACe

This trade ruined my weekend.. I don't have to explain myself at all. Fuck this.
damn lol...you hate the Lakers that bad?
It's not all about that, I admit that I'd rather see Garnett getting a ring (over Kobe) and that I rather see the Hornets getting a championship (over the Lakers) - it's not one-sided "hate" towards the Lakers though, what it basically comes down to is that I want the Mavs to succeed, and the harder the competition, the lesser the chances of success. I hated it when Iverson got traded to the Nuggets, cause that trade produced another potential contender in the west. Luckily they still kinda suck, so it's not that big of an issue. With the Lakers though, they were pretty good already when Bynum was healthy (heck, even now they keep winning games) so I predict a big problem for the Mavs then the Lakers are at 100%. With that said, I of course rather have the Celtics to dominate the league than I like the Lakers to do that, but to blame my disgust for this trade entirely on hating the Lakers is very simplifying.

word,I see you. I feel the same way about the idea of Kidd goin to Dallas. Dude is one of my all-time favorite players and id like to see him win a ring but being a Laker fan id hate to see him come west.

Could someone tell me what will happen to the rotation once Bynum gets back.

Could someone tell me what will happen to the rotation once Bynum gets back.
Bynum=Center
Gasol=Power Forward
What happens is that we have twin towers... two of the best 7 footers in the league in the same starting line-up, as well as the best frontcourt in the league, by far. Pure domination. 8)

I kind of agree. I think this trade works out best for both teams. The Lakers are definetely in a win now mentality. Kobe's in his prime and they should do everything they can to push for a title sometime in the next few years. Memphis is NOT in a win now mentality lol So why not go for some younger players and draft picks. Gasol was being wasted there.
