Even with Bynum out again, there is no way Kobe is going to let what happened last year happen this year. Niggas gonna do whatever it takes to win the title this year. Hell of a game from KB24, hell he and Gasol scored 92 of the Lakers' 126 :o

Great game but you do realize it came against the Knicks, right? (a dantoni team who plays at a ridiculous pace, which leads to more possessions which leads to more fga's, which coincidentally leads to more points in many cases) Lets not get carried away. LeBron is better.

The 1st game between both players DID confirm it  ::)... Lebron is great but he cannot be on Kobe level with that weak shot and disgrace footwork ... we all see at what level he'll be at 30 when his incredible athletic abilities start to decrease

Not disrespecting anyone here but.......

Lebron is a great player.

Kobe is one of the GREATEST players of all time. I def stack Kobe ahead of Lebron.

I've been watching basketball for about 20 years now (been a Bulls fan the ENTIRE time), and my opinion is I believe Kobe is the 2nd greatest player to EVER play the game, behind Michael Jordan.

The word "GREAT" or "GREATEST" isn't something that I usually just throw around out there, but I truely believe that Kobe is in that top knotch tier with MJ, though I still believe MJ's skill level was slightly above Kobe's.

However, Lebron should not be thrown in to that category (yet, anyways).

And Lakers fans better hope Kobe doesn't start thinking he has to do this every game, as we all know how that story plays out.  Dude is by far the best individual, one on one (or one on five) player, but last night he didn't give anyone the ball not named Gasol.

great game by kobe but lets not forget the big contribution gasol also made, back when kobe was scoring like the 80+ game he had no where near anyone else stepping up and getting 32. people are forgetting what gasol did in that game also, to score that much when someone else has 61 is no easy feat.

alo on a sidenote, is spike lee making a documentary on kobe?

yea, he had a great game

31 PTS   14 REB   5 AST

Odom, however, was only 2-9 FG's... I'll give him props for 14 boards though

I know it's hard to get going when Kobe is shooting but he needs to step up now

Man Odom has to defend well and grab them fucking rebounds. We have Kobe, Sasha, Vlade, Gasol, Ariza, Fisher, etc.. who can score points. Don't forget we lead the NBA in points per game scored. Scoring will never be a problem for this team.

Oh, and Kobe can score 60 against any team in the NBA, whenever he wants.

nice unfounded claim. Anyway,  LeBron is not as skilled as Kobe, but his ability to put a team of guys who range from  nobodies to decent role players is rivaled only by CP3. Kobe is easily one of the best to play the game ever, but I don't think he is the best in the current NBA. And stop the bullshit comparisons about Kobe being more of a legend. He's a 13 year vet and James has played roughly half of that. Kobe SHOULD be more of a legend right now.

First, which game do you think is better NIK?  To me, it shows the difference between Kobe and LBJ.  Lebron is better at getting his team involved and rebounding, while Kobe when on is simply unstoppable.

Do I hate Kobe?  NOT even close.  His game, when he is playing like last night, is so similar aesthetically to Jordan's that it is amazing.  However, I have never really liked the way he carries himself, and have been disappointed in him in the playoffs a couple of times.  As far as I am concerned, he had the chance to go out a fighter in the playoffs last year and prove the haters wrong, but instead went out with a whimper (and that wasn't the first time he did that in the playoffs).  Someone in this thread said Kobe can score 60 against any team, any time he wants, but if that was the case he would've went off against the Celtics.

Still, lets leave it at this- historic game being that is was played at the Garden, and one of the best individual performances in a long time.

But i fail to see how 60/3/0 is better than 50/10/8/4.  I would rather just have this thread focus on Kobes amazing game last night, but when it was said that this proves Kobe is WAY BETTER than anyone else in the NBA, then it becomes what is is
Title: Re: Kobe Scores 61 at Madison Square Garden...Most EVER.
Post by: Antonio on February 03, 2009, 03:04:40 PM
Lebron is better at getting his team involved and rebounding, while Kobe when on is simply unstoppable.

LeBron is a small forward who plays power forward in a small rotation for a few minutes per game. Plus he has a totally different body, more muscles, so it's normal he gets more rebounds than Kobe. And the thing that he is better at getting his team involved is bullshit. Kobe is averaging 5.1 assists per game, not 2. In the month of january, he averaged 7.1 assists in 16 games, along with 6 rebounds and 27.2 points. He recorded 12 assists in the game against LeBron's Cavs. The truth is that Kobe can do everything he wants, on the floor. If he wants, he can have a month averaging more than 7 assists per game. If he wants, he can have a month averaging 40 points per game. If he wants, he can have a month averaging 7-8 rebounds per game. He's the most skilled player i've ever seen since Michael Jordan, and nobody can really touch him under this aspect of the game. LoBron is good. But he still has to develope into a complete player. And i'm not talking about stats. I'm talking about having a better footwork, shooting better from 3pts (do you remember Kobe scoring 12 3pters in one game against Seattle in 2003? Including 9 straight?), shooting better from the FT line (Kobe shot 20/20 against the Knicks), being clutch. Let's talk about who's better when LeBron will be so complete.
Title: Re: Kobe Scores 61 at Madison Square Garden...Most EVER.
Post by: Antonio on February 03, 2009, 03:19:05 PM
Someone in this thread said Kobe can score 60 against any team, any time he wants, but if that was the case he would've went off against the Celtics.

He scored 36 points against them in Game-3, tho. And imho he didn't went all out at all. I mean obviously you don't spend all you energies during a single NBA Final game. Anyway i'm not saying he is unstoppable. I'm saying that if he's menthally prepared and focused on something, there is a big chance that he realizes it. Including scoring 60 points. He can do it against the Knicks, but he can do it against any team in the League. Remember the game against the Mavs? They triple teamed him, in the 3rd. But he scored 30 points or something no matter what. That's what i'm saying. He has so much skills, footwork movements, athleticism, jumpshot, range, desire, etc.. that you really can't stop him, when he's in the zone. LeBron is not this type of player. No way. If you put Ariza, Bowen, Posey, etc.. on him he'll struggle offensively. And you know that. He's still the second best in the League, and quite possibily the MVP of this season, but he ain't on Kobe's level yet. Not to mention the fact Kobe is a better overall defender.

P.S.
LeBron scores half of his points on fastbreaks. His team plays a wonderful aggressive defense, they recover a lot of balls, and they run fastbreaks damn well. That's why he has so much assists and points. But when they face a team who forces them to play at halfcourt, slowing the pace down, then you can easly see how LeBron is like a fish out of water. He's still good enought to win a lot of games, but Kobe is another thing. And i'm not dickryding him, it's just the truth.

Kobe's game was easily better than LeBron's. Cleveland was running an ISO offense for LeBron last season, which means he was involved in every play. Kobe single-handedly dismantled New York's offense and was being double and sometimes even triple teamed, causing Gasol to have a much easier time scoring and rebounding in the paint..did you even see both games? scoring 61 in 31 attempts is a lot more impressive than 50 on 30 attempts. The fact that Kobe is defended harder than Kobe ON ITS OWN makes him more vital to his teammates success than LeBron does...stop the hate, congratulate...PeACe

lol ill bet 95% never watched jordans game, there just goin off biases. i aint sayin kobes was better, just that i bet 50% watched kobe do it and 5% watched jordan do it.

I watched both games and the Jordan game was easily more impressive. That Knicks team was a real basketball team, not a Dantoni 3 ring circus.

how was Jordan's game more impressive, ya damn moron? he was being guarded 1-on-1 by John Starks, LMAO. Kobe was double-teamed the whole game. Add to that, Kobe's 61 came on 31 shot attempts. Jordan's came on 37 attempts......AND the 3 point line was a few feet closer when Jordan did it. LOL@your pathetic hate blinding you.

Right, Laker fans in California are the only ones who are not "blind haters." 49 out of 50 states polled are more impressed by Jordan's performance (not to mention Jordan won the international poll as well). LOL @ your pathetic homerism blinding you. Sorry buddy, it looks like the REST OF THE KNOWN WORLD agrees with me.

This is not a case for Kobe. If we are talking about skills, then Kobe is the winner. If we are talking about the player with the biggest positive impact on his team, its LeBron.

Take LeBron off the Cavs and you got a group of scrubs. Take Kobe off the Lakers and you still have Bynum, Gasol and Odom.

I don't know. I mean both players have a ridiculous impact on their own teams. I don't like those arguments anyway. Everybody plays a role in his own team. Even Trevor Ariza is playing a great role in those Lakers, just like Rick Fox, Robert Horry etc.. used to do for the 3peat team. You know.. i've always said that: everybody has a role, and you have to respect that. I've always said it's wrong to say things like "Shaq won 3 ring", "Kobe won 0", "Kobe won the one against Indiana", etc.. Those arguments are stupid. It's a team game. I make you an example: obviously if you take LeBron James off the Cavs, they won't win the ring no more. It's a safe thing to say that. You are right. But.... it's the same if you take Mo Williams out too, man. Or if you take both Varejao and Ilgauskas off the team. Can you immagine the Cavs reaching the NBA Finals in 2007 without Gibson? Dude stepped up playing even better than LeBron. Role players, but still fundamental. Can you immagine the 2002 Lakers reaching the Final without Robert Horry? Or the 2000 Lakers winning the Finals against Indiana without the 21 years old Kobe Bryant (and i know everyone say "Shaq won L.A. 3 rings") stepping it up when Shaq got fouled out in that infamous Overtime? It was Shaq's team, obviously. But Kobe was decisive too. Even more than Shaq, that night. So.. i don't know, man. If this one is an argument you like go ahead and say that. I'm not a fan of those argumentations. To me Kobe Bryant is the best player out of the two. Point. Then you can make 300 other considerations, but i won't follow you on this one.

Jordan's MSG performance was a WAY bigger moment.  The GOAT comes outta retirement and drops the double nickel in MSG?  Get the fuck outta here. That was right on the heels of him coming out of retirement, rockin the 45- he shook the rust off like a motherfucker that night.  Eventhough he had been away from the game for 2 years, he stepped right back in and showed everybody that he still had it.  I remember watching that shit in my living room, it was crazy.

Dropping 61 anywhere is a hell of a task, mad props for that.  It's not touching Jordan's performance.

Damn dude, how retarded are you? of course they're gunna talk highly about Kobe, he gets them great ratings. still, BSPN is known by the Laker Nation as a joke of a network with ridiculous amounts of east coast bias. They were pretty much covering the Celtics last year about twice as much as they covered the Lakers. They also like to hype up players like LeBron and Wade as some of the greatests and market them as players on Kobe's level. no matter how great Kobe is, the fact is Lakers (as a whole)>>>Cavs (as a whole).

you can switch Kobe & Lebron & the Lakers would still win because the whole cast of Lakers players would outplay the whole cast of the Cavs.

Brilliant logic! Because he came out of retirement, it makes it a greater performance. ::)

I'm still in shock that it's not widely considered an outrage to utter Kobe and Lebron in the same breath. some people are pathetic.

maybe Turf Hitta meant as far as this year is concerned

but seeing every post he makes is some dumbass comment about the Lakers he probably does feels that way overall

LeBron is the fuckin man but just calm down on saying he's better overall than Kobe

nice unfounded claim. Kobe SHOULD be more of a legend right now.

you're an idiot...Cavs have one of the best defensive teams in the league. that's WITHOUT LeBron. their defense is more vital to their success than LeBron is. Learn your basketball before you make an ass of yourself. "Kobe is not the best in the current NBA"...LMFAO.

Take LeBron off the Cavs and you got a group of scrubs. Take Kobe off the Lakers and you still have Bynum, Gasol and Odom.

Lakers would not make the playoffs without Kobe...Cavs have great D, they'd for sure be a playoff team in the East without LeBron. LOL@The Cavs being scrubs.

PG Mo Williams=all-star level point guard, Daniel Gibson=great role player, spot-on shooter
SG Delonte West=quality combo guard, great defender,  Tarrence Kinsey=good back-up, former rookie of the month
SF Sasha Pavlovic=nice role player who can play both ends, Wally Szczerbiak=nice veteran back-up guard, scorer
PF Ben Wallace=former defensive player of the year, JJ Hickson=quality rookie
C Zydruna Ilgauskas=all-star caliber center, Andreson Varaejo=starting center on most other teams

If you can't get into the playoffs with a former all star(Odom), a current all star (Gasol) and a future all star (Bynum) then something is seriously wrong. Are you actually saying you would rather have Kobe surrounded by LeBron's supporting cast for your playoff roster? Be serious. The Cavs are nothing without LeBron, probably not even a playoff team. No team led by Mo Williams will ever win anything.

Now I don't even think you follow the NBA...Odom isn't a former all-star. Their are better rosters out their than the Lakers minus Kobe that ain't making the playoffs in the west (Clippers, Utah, etc.).. However, Cleveland's defense, even without LeBron, is way too good to not make the playoffs in the east, where you don't even have to have a winning record to make the playoffs. Cleveland minus LeBron is still good enough defensively to be better than Milwaukee, who's in the playoffs right now. For the record, I prefer the Lakers' supporting cast, but Kobe would win titles with either one.

^lmao smartass. clearly you would match up Kobe & LeBron lmao.

& i have an idea who Kobe is (esspecially vs. the Celtics), we all saw the finals last year. ;)
Jordan's performance will always be higher regarded because of the situation and Michael's aura during the time he played, but at the end of the day 62>55.

dantoni = more possessions = more fga = more points

lol...come on, muthafucka. i already pointed out that Jordan's 55 came on 37 attempts, while Kobe's 61 came on 31. :-*

honest question, how many free throws did Jordan take in that game?

did NIK really just call the TV network that is almost as big a Kobe fan as he is BSPN?

holy crap.. you're dumber than i thought.

lol, i honestly dont believe you have ever seen an episode SportsCenter or any of ESPN's NBA related shows based off that comment.

the last time they ever talked near bad about him was when he got in trouble a few years ago, but what sports analysts didnt?

they might still make Jordan look to be the standout greatest of all time, but they talk about Kobe as second behind MJ.

i know that a statement like "second to MJ" is blasphemous in you Laker bible, but they talk beyond highly about Kobe.

not that he doesnt deserve to be talked about highly, but they are far off from making your golden child look bad lmao.
From 2004-2007 EPSN (and most news outlets for that matter), didn't have many nice things to say about Kobe. Even when he scored 35ppg or 81 against the Raptors, they were saying he was a ball hog (despite leading the team in assists for years), and didn't make players better. After Christmas Day 2007 they all jumped back on the Lakers' nuts. But even today you'll still see annalist argue whether LeBron or even Wade is better then Kobe. Whether you think LeBron is better then Kobe, I'm not here to discuss. I'm just saying ESPN is far from unbiased when it comes to the NBA.

how are you gunna penalize a player for drawing fouls? he's THAT good...the only way to stop him is fouling him. NOTHING to use against him.

i didnt...lmao.

where did i penalize Kobe?

i was just asking.

because you keep saying he had 61 on 31 attempts BUT he went to the line at least 9 times & those 9 shots he got fouled on dont count towards his attempts.

you can say "he would have hit all 9 anyway", which i wouldnt be shocked at, but that means he really took 40 attempts...

he got fouled in the act of shooting at least 9 times, which is 9 shots that dont count towards his total FG's attempted.

so like i said, the stat shows he took 31 shots, but he got fouled at least 9 times, so technically he took 40 shots lol.
