there's STILL another half of the season to play, and shit couls STILL go sour from here (like in past years). However, i think kobe bryant is the MVP of the first half of this year. yes over KG, Nash, Bron, paul, royinsert a detroit player here_______.
why?
well lets rule out the other candidates
kg....like in past years the only way he wins is when he's surrounded by HOF'ers and All Stars . in 'Sota he won when he had Spree taking off the scoring pressure and Gen. Sam running the offense. Now in boston he's got pierce AND allen. by definition of the powers that be that decides the MVP award.....he's not really a strong enough MVP candidate. KG's strength comes from his teammates, not visa versa
nash...granted , he's the heart of that team. idon't think his weight is as important as kobe's THIS year
Roy....probably my second choice for mvp this year, however there are some hurdles (teams) that he has yet to lead his team over
Bron'....probably playing the best all around individual basketball of any NBA player right now, however you don't FEAR th cavs liek you should. probably not all james' fault but he's the captain.
paul.....he slipped when the lakers blasted the hornets out of the water
now kobe....
in my opinion the lakers (and i stress the LAKERS) play the best ball when kobe scores around 25/26 points , and that's what he's averaging i think. it takes a lot for kobe not to try to score all of the lakers' points . i get that. i've watched him for 12 years and that's one of his problems, but he has seemed to keep that in check. remember a couple of years ago when the lakers had the suns down 3-1? the lakers played TEAM basketball......well that's what i'm starting to see. TEAM ball anchored by 24. before kobe instilled fear and loathing in his teammates ...where they didn't even want to shoot the ball.....now players like bynum are rising to the top and contributing in way not seen before. THAT"S what mvps are made of and THAT'S how you win , and it seems to be working.
like i said i might dislike kobe but i can't deny what i see.
now i hope i don't jinx the season and we end up with the 7th seed again.
-
Kobe didn't instill "fear and loathing", the Laker players are just growing and expanding. Kobe has been the MVP for some time, now.
-
Lets hope the MVP voters feel the same way. If he doesn't win it this year I fear he never will.
But I gotta ask a question for everyone to debate on. On the MVP Rankings, Garnett is 1...Paul Pierce is 6. By default shouldn't they cancel each other out of the race? I mean I know they have the best record in the NBA but I think any team would with 3 All-Stars on the same team in the Eastern Conference.
I'd give it to Kobe. If not him then CP3. 20 points, 10 assists, 2 steals, and only 2 turnovers is pretty damn impressive.
-
i don't think it matter really that they'er both in the hunt. however i think it starts to matter more when you have THREE bonefied all stars on your team.
cuz i mean karl malone/john stockton, pippen/jordan, hakeem/drexler....ect. THOSE work as far as mvps go
but Barkley/hakeem/pippen...no you can't give it to em'.
-
Garnett/Pierce/Allen aren't exactly Barkley/Hakeem/Pippen.. plus the rest of the roster sucks balls... Garnett is a true MVP candidate.
-
i started a similar thread based on ESPN's first and ten show
MY top 5 in no order, with stats.
Howard 22.1 ppg 15.0 rpg 1.5 apg 1.1 spg 2.6 bpg
Kobe 27.4 ppg 5.8 rpg 5.1 apg 1.9 spg 0.5 bpg
LEbron 29.7 ppg 7.6 rpg 7.4 apg 2.0 spg 1.1 bpg
Nash 17.4 ppg 3.5 rpg 12.0 apg 0.7 spg 0.1 bpg
Garnett 19.3 ppg 9.8 rpg 3.8 apg 1.4 spg 1.4 bpg
stat wise i'd say Howard is most valuable
but ofcourse KG is the straw that stirs the drink in the 33-6 Celtics :D
-
If the Lakers finish as one of the top teams in the West, I like Kobe's chances. He has a lot less to work with then most of the other contenders except for Lebron.
-
One thing I dont get is why Lebron is in MVP talks .. dont get me wrong hes having a great season but his team is 22-18 .. the exact same reaon Kobe wasnt considered in MVP talks these latest 2 years according to these so called experts .. Kobe is playing no different , only Kenny Smith is right .. before this season , he has no reason to trust his teammates .. this year, Bynum and Farmar are on another level, Fish is no Smush... anyways Kobe never will win a MVP, he doesnt get enough love from journalists .. Lakers should win like 65-70 games to get him this award ..
Paul is a serious candidate IMO. dude is the best at his postion, he makes things look VERY EASY

Paul isn't the best point guard IMO but he's top 3

Dwight Howard or Kobe Bryant.
Right now I'm leaning with Howard but its real close.
-
Right now Id give the award to Kobe, for sure. We'll see what happens in the second half of the season. Chris Paul is up there too, with LeBron, Nash, KG and maybe Bosh can get up there if the Raptors go on a run soon

Howard has really emerged. Hopefully he won't get hosed again at this year's Slam Dunk contest.

Im taking Jarmario Moon or Gerald Green to win
-
^^honestly I really think Howard deserves the award at this point. His impact and importance to the Magic equals that of Kobe and LA, The Magic would be a lottery team w/out Howard and with him they are contenders.
-
Kobe will get an MVP trophy before he dies. 100%.

the REAL question is will he win another ring?
-
IMO, and i bet Kobe's as well..
Fuck an Award let's get to the playoffs and beyond.

That was a cool vid. Kobe seemed a lot less phony / humble back then.
-
Dwight is good, but he's no MVP. Neither is KG...Not this year, at least. Kobe is by far the best player in the league, and I don't know who truly questions this these days?
-
no doubt but MVP definition is sure not the best player in the league since Jordan retired ... they should re-name the award the best player on the best team ...
-
Kobe will get an MVP trophy before he dies. 100%.
NBA will totally loose credibility if he doesn't give him (at least) one before he retires.
Anyway let's put it this way:
- Garnett already won one.
- Lebron James is playing for a team who isn't winning enought.
- Howard is still 22 and in 4-5 years will dominate the league (and eventually get other MVP trophies opportunities)
- Paul, you know i got love for him, but it's like Howard, same thing.
- Kobe already deserved (at least) one, and the Lakers are playing great.
Give it to Kobe.
-
Dwight is good, but he's no MVP. Neither is KG...Not this year, at least. Kobe is by far the best player in the league, and I don't know who truly questions this these days?
how come Lebron has better stats with less of a team around him?
-

actually lebron is playign better basketball than kobe. however, kobe is playing like an MVP (leader) and lebron....no as much......it's like last year except 180; change the names and faces.
however DO NOT DWELL on this because there's STILL another half of basketball to be played and any team and player can catch fire and win it all.
-
as far as dwight howard is concerned , i love that guy he's like a smaller shaq. him and bynum are gaining ground as two of my favorite players behind carmelo. however i'm not a believer in him yet......i'm not qestioning his skills or heart, just not sure he's ready to lead a team to the promised land yet, he still needs a general (i.e sam cassell; ron harper type guard) to guide him and make him a better captain.

Cuz when you have less of a team around you, you're forced to put up more stats...durrrrh!

LeBron is NOT playing better basketball than Kobe. Not by a long shot.
-
yes he is.

-
The Cavs' record is not even that bad if you don't count the 6-7 losses they had due to LeBron being injured.
-
i'll agree with you that Lebron is having a better season this year
but Kobe is the more talented player at this point in time
2-3 years from now things will change. watch Lebron go to the Knicks and try to resurrect them lol. that'd be awesome to see and you know he wants to go to NY.
-
yes he is.
Yes, because everyone knows Kobe wouldn't be averaging 35+ points right now on the current Cavs. ::)
Numbers aren't everything, Jake, my dude...Remember, Kobe is also a 1st team all-defender, and James, well, isn't close.
-
yes he is.
damn cuz, lebron is averaging more points, more rebounds, more assists, better field goal percentage, more blocs and the same steals. damn he's better in every category. yo don jacob, aint steals and blocs defensive stats? haha, yeah they are.
-
^Yes, because getting steals and blocks makes you a good defender...You STAY lookin like a dumbass. LeBron's defense is shakey, while Kobe is the best perimeter defender in the league. Why do you think LeBron was asking Kobe for defensive tips this past summer, when they were playing for Team USA? LOL. Come on, now, cuz.
-
steals and blocs are defensive stats in the real world, unless they are offensive stats in jewland? hahaha
which team lost today? Is on a losin streak and about to get killed on the road? 8)
lebron's stats are better than kobes in every category and while kobe was fishin last year starin at his printout of all nba defense, lebron was leading his team to the finals, something kobe hasn't done without shaq to bail him out.
-
^you fucking dumbass, if you knew anything about the game of basketball then I wouldn't need to explain to you that players who get more steals and blocks are generally worse defenders than players who average less steals and blocks, but can contain their man. That's because steals and blocks are usually collected off of gambles and weak-side defense. Many players who can't stay in front of their opponent and get beat off the dribble consistently get mad steals and blocks. Kobe's defense>>>Trevor Ariza's defense>>>>>>LeBron's defense. Learn the game and get back to me. Put Kobe on the Cavs, and he'd average AT LEAST 35 points a game.
Lakers>>>>>Cavs
Kobe>>>>>>>>>>LeBron
Any questions?
-
Who Gives a shit which Player anyone likes Better.
They are Both Great Players.
I'll ALways Go for the player on My Home team. (KOBE)
And If Bron was a Laker, Then I'd Ride with Bron. Whoever has the Purple & Gold.
The Rest can Go Fuck Themself.. ;D
-
yeah yall should calm down , who gives a fuck , I root for a team, not a player .. half of the posters dont watch games or dont know shit about B-Ball anyways so no time to waste ..
-
i guess marcus camby, alonzo mourning, ben wallance and dikembe mutombo were all weak defenders then, since blocs dont count. and i guess payton and shawn marion and ron artest were never good defenders with all they steals either.
everyone knows that when people picc the defensive player and the all defensive teams, they look at stats like steals, blocs, defensive boards and more. Lebron gets more steals and blocs and more everything else than kobe. its okay tho jewboy, u can keep dicryding kobe all you want, everyone else but you knows the real deal. which is why he never wins mvp and is known as a crybaby who scores alot but doesnt win shiet no more.
-
man on man defense on the one side and blocks and steals are different type of Defense... Bowen is arguably the best perimeter defender in the game , he averages less than 1 steal a game ... anybody can steal and gamble .. if youre saying that Wade, Lebron, AI , even Smush are great defenders because they got steals , you obviously dont know nothing about B-Ball

no shiet they different types of defense. and bowen is easily the best defender, niccas like him and marion are relied on as defensive stoppers. kobe isnt, he cant even stop lebron from scoring 41 points and nailin the game winner in his face on national tv. maybe yo ass is blind but i never mentioned iverson, wade or wac as fuc smush parker. i pointed out that lebron is better than kobe in every single statistical category and that he even can take a team of wac and average players to the finals with his leadership, while kobe is sittin on a boat fishing. this little jew is talkin about last years defensive team to try and change the subject that lebron is playin better than kobe in every way this year.

watch the Lakers get swept in the first round again
-
thats if they even make it. losing streaks and barely beating the nbas worst teams isnt exactly playoff caliber.

^ and tim duncan plays with tony parker and ginobli...
tim duncan is a 4 time champ who was the fucking hope of the celtics future 10 years ago. people here still aren't over that. he's the reason the Spurs won rings. Robinson sucked in the playoffs.
kobe is a 3 time champ who needed Shaq and a top 5 all time coach to be great.

Of course not...you get hard over ANYTHING that favors Shaq.
