"Chapter II" Ashanti (Murder Inc.)
Rating: **
As a singer-songwriter, Ashanti has all the substance of a vat of cotton candy. Her voice is pleasing yet thin , her music often relies on R&B hooks from the past, and her songs are lyrically weak (if she couldn't use the word baby, many of her songs might be instrumentals). ;D
But despite all of its fluff, cotton candy is still a tasty guilty pleasure. And the same can be said for the 21-year-old Ashanti, who, despite her limited talents, manages to keep the listener entertained on "Chapter II", the follow-up to her multiplatinum, self-titled debut.
Ashanti, who co-wrote most of the tunes along with co-executive producer and mentor Irv Gotti, does show some artistic depth in spurts. For example, on "Carry On," a defiant Ashanti sings forcefully over a broken relationship.
Conspicuously absent on this disc is frequent duet partner Ja Rule. "Chapter II" isn't one of the year's best R&B albums- heck, it's not even the best of the month. It's more akin to a trashy novel-- and it's good beach listening.

its probbably just that bad, she has nothing to offer, like i dont like ja rule, but she needs him, becasue her songs are so boring and unless she has nice beats like unfoolish, her songs are bad, i havent listened to the cd and im not planning to, i do like the video tho, cause she is so fucking banging
-
yea she is mos definetely bangin....this album is probably bullshit though....i would atleast give it a listen if it had ja on it cuz i think the two of them make a good team when its an ashanti song that features ja rule (leaving: always on time part II was a dope track)....although i hate when ja does a song and puts this bitch on the hook. i dont even know if i will listen to this once...i sure as hell aint buyin the shit.

I think that review pretty much sums up both this release, and every other release from Murda Inc to perfection.
