I just wanna say THANK Y'ALL to the 25,000 U.S. Soldiers who died 60 years ago to save Italy from Nazi-fascism. Like the Pope said, "God bless America".

Dont get manipulated by the media. Everything went perfect today, here, in Italy. We've celebrated the Americans deads, the Italians deads, and Bush went to the Pope and talked a lot with our Prime Minister. Yes, there was been a manifestation with about 6.000 guys parading and asking for PEACE. Not a big one, they've called it a flop here (we've had important manifestations with 2 millions of guys here, in 2003!). And the only fights we've seen in the manifestation came from a group of idiots who first attacked Police, then another pacific part of the manifestation. Just to let you understand how stupid they were.
Italy recognizes what USA has done for us.
Those 6.000 stupids are the same ones who follows Bush everywhere he goes.

Error dont take this thing i'm about to write as a diss to you, but here the one who should make a history class of Italian history and European History in general is you (i'm graduated, let's say i didnt skip them lessons!). When you say "Italians were facists" you are writing the biggest lie you could write. Exactly like if you write "Iraqi are fucking terrorists and neo-nazi" (cause if you didnt know Saddam's party took inspiration from Nazi-fascism). Italians were poor people, with their farms, their their small economy. They (we) never choosed fascism. But man, you are from San Diego, you've never had a regime like fascism (good for you) to fuck with. Italians didnt want to go to war. But guess what? It was "fight or die". Plus Italy was already fighting Mussolini and fascism with Resistance. So much that Mussolini lost the control of Italy (and found the Salo Republic). 60 years ago, Nazi's were killing fascists, if you didnt know. Mussolini ordered to kill all our officials from fascism. And he caputed Mussolini too. Nazi's occupied Italy. They werent our "allies" no more. They bombed our cities, killed thousands and thousands of civils (Bush has celebrated the deads of the Fosse Ardeatine yesterday, where Nazi killed thousands of italians, civils). Now i dont give a flying fuck if they entered Italy to go straight to Berlin. I dont give a flying fuck if they didnt give a fuck about Italians. But the fact is that they fought Nazi's and a small part of fascists (we was fighting them already) with Italian Resistance. And another fact is that, after the D-DAY in France, Italy wasnt necessary no more. I mean they could have used only France to go straight to Berlin. But no matter what, they continued their campaign to save Rome and then Milan. They've made some mistakes too (see Monte Cassino bombed, and Cassino city destroyed by General Clarke, the mistakes of Frosinone, the bombs who destroyed Hospitals, etc..), but 25,000 U.S. guys died to save us and to finish their mission, a mission who became "secondary" after the D-DAY.
Now you can diss Bush if you American and you dont like him, i dont care (i'm Italian, got my own politicists). You can post me pics of Mussolini with Hitler (like if i dont know them, lol), that's not the point. You can use pics from 6,000 stupid kids who acted like fools yesterday here in Roma trying to make it looks like Italy didnt show respect to Bush. But you cant neglect the only facts who matters:
1) USA saved us from Nazi's.
2) USA helped us won fascism AFTER Italy was free and Roma saved (they continued to save the North of Italy too, and it wasnt really necessary).

In October 1940, Benito Mussolini declared war on Greece. Attempts by the Italian Army to invade Greece ended in failure. The war was also going badly in North Africa. Although outnumbered, General Archibald Wavell ordered a British counter-offensive on 9th December, 1940. The Italians suffered heavy casualties and were pushed back more than 800km (500 miles). British troops moved along the coast and on 22nd January, 1941, they captured the port of Tobruk in Libya from the Italians.
The only success the Italian army had was versus small African countries.
The loss of Sicily created serious problems for Benito Mussolini. It was now clear that the Allies would use the island as a base for invading Italy. A meeting of the Fascist Grand Council was held on 24th July and Galaezzo Ciano got support for his idea that Italy should sign a separate peace with the Allies. The following day Victor Emmanuel III told Mussolini he was dismissed from office. His successor, Pietro Badoglio, declared martial law and placed Mussolini under arrest.
Italy failed on several fronts and merely switched sides. Just that easy.

In your arguments about the Facist in Italy, I agree, I studied WWII history a lot and I know exactly what you are saying. I was wondering though, wasn't it the Italians that finally killed Mussolini?

Yeah, i know what you mean about Bush, but see, that's something strictly political, you know what i mean? I mean that's you system. You got a federal system, with those kind of elections. Here in Europe we use a different system (here in Italy we dont vote for the Prime Minister directly, but trought the party which supports him). But still, what i mean is that, with your electoral systems, you voted him. He was not been forced to you like a dictator. That's the main difference between Bush, Mussolini and Saddam.
About Mussolini being killed by Italians, once again you are right. Italian Resistence captured him and killed him. That's just to reply to the "italians were fascists". It's an offence to the thousands of Italians who died to save Italy from fascism and Nazi's. Exactly like Americans. We did it for us, they (Americans) did it for themselves (they had to save Italy). But no matter what we cant forget the biggest campain of the history! The road to Rome. Soldiers from 15 countries saved us. Americans lost 25,000 guys. That's what i'm commemorating. And you Americans should do the same. 20 years old Americans dying in Italy. And trust me, they died like animals. Oww boy!

Great picture. World War II was the most violent, and bloody war in the history of man. The United States send it's troops to Europe because it was the right thing to do. Before we joined, many Americans were afriad to get in European business, but had we not, the evil of Fascism and Nazism would rule over Europe for many years. God bless the souls that dies for a better world. Without them, we would not be were we are today.

A lot of people forget that. MORE THAN 20 YEARS!! Not just the 5 ones of the WWII. It was a real dictature just like the Saddam Hussein one. For sure they saved Europe from fascism and nazism, man. Plus remember the D-DAY pratically made the Campaign to Rome unnecessary. I mean Italy wasnt really a military power man. We declared war to Greece, Albania, and Somalia and we've lost, lol. We wasnt a problem for nobody. We was occupied by Nazi's. Americans invaded Italy cause they wanted to go straight to Berlin from Italy. But the D-DAY changed everything. But still, no matter what, they finished their job. They could have used just the D-DAY (i mean France) to go straight to Berlin and to win the war. No. They've had 25.000 deads to "clean" Italy in the biggest "campaign" ever. That's appreciated. It's nothing "political", and it has nothing to do with Iraq.

I read when they dedicated the ww2 memorial in D.C. (which is breathtaking) that 16 million us people joined the army. i never knew that many people faught in ww2 from the US. You'll never see a number that high for US military EVER AGAIN. Yea without these guys all of europe would have fell to the nazis. Thank the soliders (and thank the 13 billion we gave europe to rebuild it ;D)

Hold on, hold on. The King Victor Emmanuel III, "after a series of riots in 1922, appointed Benito Mussolini in an attempt to prevent a communist revolution in Italy" (i'm quoting from Error's website, since it's already in english!). After that, Mussolini thought he was invincible (Victor Emmanuel III is considered as much responsable as Mussolini for that) and started to kill every political opponents and to pratically close the Parliament, making Italy a one-party state and instauring a dictature. He didnt kill Victor Emmanuel III cause it wasnt necessary, since Mussolini already military-controlled Italy, and Italy didnt have a real army to face him. The King already didnt do shit, before Mussolini (there was a Parliament): after Mussolini, the King became unnecessary (so much that Mussolini didnt kill him).
Let's say it was actually the opposite: the King (and even the Pope) was the servant of Mussolini. The Pope, yeah. He blessed him when he autoproclamed himself the "Duce", and he blessed the interracial laws (against jews), when Mussolini signed them.
About the pact with Hitler, they did it in 1939. 17 years later. And after some political leaders in France and Britain tried to persuade him to form an alliance with Nazi Germany. It was a complete dictacure by the time.

That's right... so not only was Bush not voted in by the majority of American's, half of Americans elegible to vote, have no representation of their views by these corporate political parties and they don't vote. Therefore, even a president like George Bush Senior, who won the popular vote, really only recieved 35% of the vote. That's almost 2 out of 3 eligible voters who did not choose him as president.

If you knew our history better.. When Americans saved us from Germans and Fascism, we CREATED ITALY. Italy as a democracy has 60 years. Our history was born that day when Americans saved us. C'mon, that's not hard. It was not an important day for you all, maybe, but for us Italians it was been our birthday. And we thank America cause they let us be a democracy for the first time in our history.

you neglect to see the difference, italy and america have a relationship in a relationship you help your your partner out, you thank them for favours and you also give positive feedback on the good things they do. there is no relationshipo between a pharmecuticals firm and the consumers of their drugs, however there is a relationship between the doctor who prescribes the drugs and the patient, if your doctor has cured your disease by prescribing the right drug you mite be inclined to write to them and show your gratitude

Truly the I-talians were the 2nd biggest chumps in WW1/WW2 after the French. The Germans were racist but had balls. The Amerricans were slow off the feet, but they got the job done. The Soviets were the Tony Montana of the war, taking 16 bullets and firing 17 back. The Italians? LOL. Allied with Germany to start WW1, switched to the Allies in between, joined WW2 on the side of Hitler then ended up turning on their own leader. Yes, thank America for exposing your chumpness.

I'm disappointed. I'm talking about thousands of young guys who died in a foreign Country and about their families. I'm talking about the tragedy of the death of some young and innocent soldiers who were there, in a secondary front, fighting cause somebody told them they were exporting the democracy, and yes, they did it! I'm talking about soldiers who died like animals together with our italians from the Resistence. Under the same bombs. Fighting the same enemy. Trying to get the same goal: to save Italy and to make a democracy. Now i'm 24 years old, my name is not Luigi, i'm graduated, i didnt grew up playing Nintendo or watching Power Rangers: i'm well known America's real plot was not to export democracy, but to protect their commercial relationships with Europe (cause Nazi took control of the Mediterrean Sea) and to save their exportations. I'm well known they cared about themselves more than about us. But look, a pair of days ago we've celebrated the 60 years anniversary of the birth of Italy, as a democracy. When i look at the books of history, i read that thousands of italians died to make Italy a democracy. And, under the same bombs, a lot of Americans (read: 25,000) died too. Could i thank THEM 25,000 DEADS or do you all have to call me Luigi (wack diss anyway), remember me about Russians dying fighting Nazi's, Iraqi getting bombed by Bush, and Italians being the 2nd biggest chumps in WW1/WW2 after the French? Is it too much? I'm talking about ITALY. And remember i aint thanking you all. I thanked the guys who died together with italians against the same enemy. i lived in japan for two years and i can safely say they don't hate us, i've been to australia, and the girls at a club did a special dance for us after the was with afghanistan wearing sparkling bikini's designed like the united states flag. people from singapore were giving us props, we did in a few months what russia couldn't do in 12 years...plus the foreign ships we were fighting along side of gave us our props... i can't speak on europe because i've never been there....and ooooh a couple of people in a few bands said fuck bush....i can see how you can mistake that for "america" since all of our elected diplomats have now been replaced by bands

My point wasnt really to teach you all Italian history, expecially since i'm not so familiar with english, but to thank some people who died with italians 60 years ago helping us to make our plot: to make a democracy.
