I'm not one to bash on soccer excessively but the fact that games end in ties so commonly is baffling to me.

Us as americans will never get soccer completely just like non-americans will never get football completely (although its more likely for them)

The world cup was cool but other than that i could give a shit about some soccer game on tv

Honestly, if you think about it, if a team knows they can win a shoot-out, they could just play nothing but defense & then force a 0-0 finish lol.

So stupid you run around for 90+ minutes & then decide the game by taking shots that even Soccer fans will tell you is "pure luck".

I always used to think that shit was like 50-50, but my friends explained to me how its like 80-20 in favor of the kicker. That's so stupid.

You can try to force a 0-0, but it's really risky. It could work once or twice if you have a really good defense, but you couldn't win a world cup with straight shoot-outs. Shoot-outs are really rare outside world cups anyway, there are none in the national leagues and  few in the CL.
And it's not pure luck. It requires really strong nerves by the shooter and the goalie makes a big difference. If a shot is really really perfect you can't do much as a gk. But a good gk can make a huge difference, the presence of a strong gk alone can be intimidating and your own shooters will feel more secure if they can rely on their keeper. Example: Germany always had strong gk's and we've never lost a shoot-out to date, while England always has pathetic goalies and they'll get scared if you only mention the word 'shoot-out'.

Robert Enke saved 10 out of 23 penalties in the national league, I wouldn't call that pure luck...

LOL @ americans who STILL dont understand soccer....its not rocket science....whats funnier is when people cant understand how a player can both play for his CLUB and COUNTRY.........they're like so messi plays for barcelona? then they see him play for argentina and they say; oh so he plays for argentina and not barcelona? how does that work....LOL

It's not like Americans don't do the exact same thing for every team sport in the Olympics. ::) I find it hard to believe an American can't understand how Jordan was able to play for Team USA AND the Chicago Bulls? It just makes no sense.

LOL, that could be the easiest concept.

Also, depending on who told you they didn't understand that, the easiest way to put it is, it's just a lame ass sport we won't ever respect.

You shouldn't be "loling" that "Americans STILL don't understand Soccer", you should be disappointed that the greatest country doesn't even acknowledge it to know who plays where. :D

When i say we as americans dont get it, i mean we dont get whats so great about it.

I really doubt theres a huge group of americans so dumb they couldnt understand soccer if they tried.

Ive seen worse and more uneducated arguments as to why soccer is better than football on here anyway.  Most football fans just say soccer is boring while ive read on here soccer fans trying to say how because you use your feet in soccer and its constant running as opposed to "just people hitting each" other its a better sport, what the fuck lol.

What I don't get is the damn need to diss other's people favorite sports. I'm mainly a baseball, soccer, and boxing fan.  I still enjoy watching the NFL, occasional college football game, certain NBA playoff games, March Madness and a few other things.  I don't watch hockey, it just never clicked with me.  But I'm not gonna sit here and fucking diss the people that like it.

^Don't lie. Hockey just never clicked with you because it's boring. I agree. Hockey is boring. Now they want to take hard hits out of the sport, it'll die even further.

Soccer is the same way for most of us. But at least Hockey had fighting.

It just didn't click.  I don't know about boring though.  If something is boring, it means I literally wouldn't be able to watch it.  I've gone to hockey games in person, and that was really entertaining.  I've seen a few of them on TV and I'm still able to be entertained by it, it just didn't click for me to be a follower.

More like laughing out asses off that you guys can't play any other sport. Look at it like this, if we pull off some crazy miracle in four years & win the World Cup, we still won't give a fuck, if that makes you feel any better lol. I never understood that, "we're not good, so we ignore it" thing. In the World Baseball Classic we didn't do that well at all, but for some reason it's still one of top sports in this country. When we lost like five years ago in Basketball, didn't even place in the World games, Basketball's popularity didn't plummet. When we made it the Finals, almost beating Canada (the king of Hockey) in the Olympics, Hockey didn't become increasingly popular.

So why is it that we don't like Soccer because we don't win at it? Sounds more to me that you just can't cover up the fact that it's boring lol.

& above all, if you're going to claim it's a "World" sport, why are you claiming it like it's European? Did America get removed off of the World map or something?

that's your interpretation. Where did I say that you don't like football because you're not successful at it? (I think America does quite good, and with more infrastructure/ experienced coaches it could become a might)

Basicially, I just said

that you hate/ diss football all the time, because it's the most popular sport in the world. If American football, baseball and basketball would be the no. 1,2 and 3 sports in the world, you wouldn't make 1237 threads about football per year. Envy comes from success. Since making countless threads about sth/sb is called being 'butthurt' here, I would call it this way.
I know you will turn it arround now and say that you only do it because we would get pissed about it, whatever makes you sleep at night.
I think golf is boring, but do I hate on it all the time?

But it may also result from the general resentment against Europe here.

Whatever, I'm done with this thread 8) cya

Why are you lot always bitching about 'soccer'? If you don't like 'soccer' then don't watch it, it's really that simple. I don't like Baseball so guess what, i don't watch it. It's really not that difficult to understand

Also what exactly is so bad about draws? I've seen games finish 2-1 which were shite while i've seen games finish 0-0 which were awesome, you lot do get that 'soccer' is played in leagues where you get points for Wins/Draws right? When it's knockout it's either two legs or Overtime & Penalties

I think Golf is a cool sport. Especially to be play. But you won't see me sitting here saying it's the best sport ever because my country can't play any other sports.

Stop acting like your love for Soccer isn't PURELY based on some nationalistic shit. The entire country pulls for it, hence you follow your country. If Soccer was dominated by Americans & Europeans played Baseball or Football & your country still supported those sports like they did Soccer, you'd be in this very thread today shitting on Soccer & saying how Baseball is the best.

Soccer is based on "my country > your country", don't front.

lol okay well when you actually think about it isn't that really your reason for defending Americas major sports, since in reality no one else plays them on a major level hence why you're all 'world' champions not domestic ones?

You honestly think that all these countries support 'soccer' simply because of national pride and not because they simply enjoy the sport? lol If that was the case then people would only ever watch International matches and no one would give a shit about all the domestic leagues or cups, and obviously that isn't the case

Also what's with the whole 'your country can't play any other sports' ? LOL like in the last decade we haven't been World Champs in Rugby/Cricket, won Gold Medals at Olympics, No.1 Golfer or even GBR having the No.4 Tennis player in the world? You can say all these sports don't mean shit, hopefully when you say that you'll understand that that's how we (and most of the world) feel about NBA/MLB/NFL/Hockey

lol @ acting like "club play" isn't just the city inside the country.

Like I root for the USA in the World Baseball Classic, but I root for New York over Boston in MLB. There are obviously in-state rivals & you rep your city over another one.

& lol, this nigga said "cricket champions". Just look at the sports you mentioned. Nobody but Europeans & Indians truly play cricket seriously. Golf is a sport invented Europeans, I would hope one of you could play that lol. Tennis is a sport for rich White people, nobody said Europeans were poor & you and us dominate that shit. Why didn't you say Polo champions too? In all seriousness, you bragging about cricket & having the fourth best golfer, despite inventing the sport is like Looney coming in here & saying Asians can't be fucked with in ping-pong.

Funny too. Europe is made up of a bunch of countries, so it's like 15 countries just against America. The law of averages says that some of you guys from across the pond HAVE to be able to compete.

& Baseball can't be pure nationalism because Baseball is played by a majority of immigrants, half who came here illegally, yet we're out there rooting for them because we love the sport.

It's not driven by pride of the country thoughHere's an example.  If Barcelona were to go to the Champions League Final vs Manchester United, then Real Madrid fans would rather see Manchester United win.  The only pride that I see being mentioned sometimes is the strength of the league.  It's similar to how people react to the different conferences in college sports.  SEC vs Pac 10 etc blah blah.

Just like I'd rather see the Rays win a World Series over the Mets, despite the Mets being from New York. Or how I root my ass off for basically any team that plays the Giants, in Football.

You never want to see your neighbor win because you have to deal with those fans more often than somebody from a country hundreds of miles away.

So Cricket, despite being bigger than Baseball and NFL, is irrelevant because Europe and Asians play it, that's like me saying well NFL/NBA is irrelevant because its mainly played by black Americans ::) And Golf/Tennis is irrelevant because the people who play it, invented it and aren't poor ? LOL What?

So if we're shit at all these irrelevant sports, what is America good at? Not counting Baseball/NFL since you invented it and Basketball/Ice Hockey/Tennis/ Golf doesn't count since they were invented by white people who aren't poor, so obviously they're all irrelevant by your logic

1. Cricket isn't nearly as popular as you're making it out. It's like me saying Americans are the best at Beer Pong.
2. Golf & Tennis are played by rich kids. But I love both sports. & like I said, out of like 15 countries, I would hope a couple of you guys can play some of those. Those are just two stupid sports to talk about because so many people are deprived of playing them. It's like LeBron James is 6'6'', I'm sure if at the age of three he was handed a Tennis racket, he would have a solid chance of being a pretty good Tennis player.

Facts remain, Dirk & Manu & Tony Parker are the only impressive European players out of like 300 players & you clearly cannot play Baseball.

Just because something is not part of your culture doesn't mean it sucks ... it's called not being narrow-minded and aware of the culture diversity around the world ...
You're the ones who took it to heart.

You're the ones who are posting/starting in soccer threads on a regular basis saying how boring this sport is ... I have no interest in MLB/NFL at all but you won't find any post from me complaining about these sports/leagues

Some serious statements of ignorance and inferiority here...if you can't fathom how 'soccer' is so popular across the world you'll never understand. It goes way beyond some tribal nationalistic shit.

omg such headache from reading this thread. LOL...

soccer is about gameplay, history, importance, prestige, soooo many things...its not a matter of how many goals...the goals  happen in 1 sec. the game is 90 min.  even if you have 10 goals thats less than 10 min. of the game.  What important is the RESULT and the outcome of it.  In leagues, you collect points so a tie is worth 1 point, a win is 3 points and a loss is 0 point.  So for some yes a tie is very important.

and newsflash there are MILLIONS of americans who like soccer and they play it every week in every park...its just that many dont have access to watching and following it cuz espn does a shit job covering soccer, real fans like me pay for channels to show them or many watch online...

Yeah, but supposedly every country has a Soccer team & they all get paid.

So basically, there are tens of thousands of Soccer players & there are only like 2,000 professional American athletes within Baseball, Football & the NBA; that play at the highest level lol.

You deserve the money if you can do something so very few can do.

It's not that so few can do it because it is so hard, it's that there is simply NO MARKET for it.

I hate getting into this discussion again but this caught my eye
Us as americans will never get soccer completely just like non-americans will never get football completely (although its more likely for them)
Your joking right? Okay the interest in football is low in America but you have allot of devoted fans that even traveled to South Africa to see their team play. And as far as i know, there are no professional American football leagues in Europe.

So what there aren't any pro football leagues in europe?  Im talking about the fact that support for football compared to support for soccer will NEVER be anywhere close to even, and this is why pitting soccer vs football is pretty much subjective (you guys dont get football like we do just like we dont get soccer like you do).

Also, just because a small group of people travelled to see the world cup (which we view as the only important soccer tourney or match at all lol) doesn't mean that theres a bunch of soccer fans here.  Half of that support (at least) is on some nationalistic type of shit, aka we will support a national hot dog eating team if it means we can travel/drink/spectate/cheer for it.

I dont know if I missed what you were getting at but there you go.

I dont really believe that you Euros will ever appreciate American football. I was just saying its more likely than us getting soccer cause that will never ever happen (zero percent) compared to maybe 1 percent for you guys.  Our culture is pretty ingrained in what it likes, which is not a bad thing like people make it out to be.

Who gives a shit really.  If you wanna watch soccer all day, go for it.

Us football fans grew up watching football, you Americans grew up watching your sports. Its as simple as that. I don't watch your sports as I find them really uninteresting. So if you don't like Football, don't watch it.

You do get some football games that are boring as fuck. The Spurs-Arsenal game the other night was anything but boring, it just depends on the teams that are playin.
The only big american sport i really like is basketball. For me American Football doesnt flow enough and i lose interest in whats goin on, and baseball is just mad boring to me.
Dont know why someone brought up cricket its the shitest sport going. How you goin to play for 5 days and still draw the fucking game.
