NEW YORK (AP) -- If the U.S. Postal Service delivered mail for free, our mailboxes would surely runneth over with more credit-card offers, sweepstakes entries, and supermarket fliers. That's why we get so much junk e-mail: It's essentially free to send. So Microsoft Corp. chairman Bill Gates, among others, is now suggesting that we start buying "stamps" for e-mail.

I'll spell it out in layman's terms.

You missed the concept.  It's not necessarily a problem YOU would have to do, it's a math problem that would take your computer 10 seconds of time to do itself.  That slows the computer down, so spammers can't send 10,000,000 emails in an hour like they do now, since it would take 10 seconds to send each email.  It would render spamming impossible.  The "postage" or time=money concept is that, the only way that a spammer could be effective would be to have a shitload of computers running at once, and they'd never be able to earn enough profit to pay for the computers.  For a regular user like you or I, it would just mean our emails would take 10 seconds to send; so in effect, we're PAYING 10 seconds of time, which we wouldn't mind, in order to send the email.  The end result is we can pay it, because 10 seconds of time is nothing to us, but assholes sending 10,000,000 emails wouldn't be able to pay it...  It's GENIUS if you ask me.

 ::) Shutup fruitcake...what about credit card companies that send you offers in the mail {that spend 37 cents}. This lame idea will backfire and actually encourage businesses to send us legit junk e-mail like we receive in the mailbox but for a penny.

i think its a bad idea but its good thinking and shit but i do think it might backfire....theres way of gettin rid of spam i dont really get any spam at all on my mac and if i do my mac pics it up and dumps it in the junk folder and i have my email program no load any images from the emails cause thats what lets companies know that you are a a real email address.....so it doesnt load any images but there is a button on the upper left thats says loads images and if the email is from a trusted source i click it to load the images and so forth....so i just think it could go either way.......but im not really fustrated on how it is now......but i do agree things can be a lil better but i dont know about paying for email and that whole wait time is not that bad of an idea but still iffy about it.....oh and by the way......FUCK BILL GATES ;)  ..........lol.....he a smart man and all that but you know i gotta say it...lol

Bill is the man and all but I dont think this will do anything.  Theres always ways to overcome things like this and in a few weeks time after the whole stamps thing is introduced Spam will probably be hitting are inbox's still.

I think just making a law to say its illegal and tracking down the people that are doing it will help.  Track the main people down, close there companys, take money off em, break up all there computer stuff and ban them from ever buying computers again.  Shud do the trick, put the shits up people n e way.

Bez, you want government to step in and handle it, when it's a worldwide problem, and that's unnecessary.  Bill Gates helped create the internet as we know it today, so he is the one I think is responsible and has the ability to come up with a solution.  Of course people like you think you know better than him, the Richest Man in America; and you dismiss his idea before you fully understand it, and before it's even implemented.  Think about that.
