Title: U-20 World Championship in Canada
Post by: Antonio_ on July 01, 2007, 10:28:38 AM
Who's watching this tournament? I've seen 2 games so far: Brazil-Poland and Argentina-Czech Rep.

So far i was been impressed by Leandro Lima (Brazil), but other good players are Pato (Brazil), Sergio Aguerro (Argentina), Maxi Moralez (Argentina) and Mauro Zarate (Argentina). Who are your fav players?

Damn, you missed a fucking beautiful game.  Skill, teamwork, strategy was all top notch from both Spain and Uruguay.  It's going to be hard to find a better game than that one in this tourney.

Yep.  He hasn't played in the first two games of the Copa America because of an injury he had while playing vs. the U.S in the Gold Cup Final.

I used to be able to embed the video by taking out the question mark and equal sign and replace them with slashes, do I have to do it a new way now?

Dude gave me tickets for the Spain game but I never went....he said the skill and teamwork from Spain was fuckin amazing.

Oh...this is going to be the second highest attendend U-20 ever...a million plus tickets almost sold.

Not bad for Canada  ;D

Mexico looked really good last night, lots of movement up front and Dos Santos really does look total quality.

Cavani and Suarez both looked really good for Uruguay against Spain.

I'm hoping to see some more of Tomas Pekhart, Spurs player who came off the bench in the Czech Republic's first game.

One player no-one else has mentioned so far is Ever Banega of Argentina. He broke into the Boca Juniors team in the second half of last season and was instrumental, along with Riquelme, in their eventual Copa Libertadores success. He is a clever midfielder playmaker and will surely take up Riquelme's number ten role at Boca next season if he doesn't manage to secure a permanant transfer from Villarreal.

Argentina and Brazil both won yesterday.

The Argentina game really was the Banega and Aguero show, wish Eurosport had actually shown that game instead of having to watch the minature highlights on the FIFA site.

Title: Re: U-20 World Championship in Canada

Theres not really much video footage of him about on Youtube or I'd use that.

Basically he's currently playing a Josep Guardiola type role for Boca, at the back of the midfield diamond, taking the ball off the defense and linking up play to the attacking midfielder (in their case Riquelme). He is very skillful on the ball and seems to have great vision for picking out a pass, making me think he will possibly move forward to play more of a Riquelme type role in the future.

For the U-20's he's performing a similar role, but seems to be getting further up the pitch, mainly linking with Moralez (who I think you mentioned earlier) and playing a lot of through balls to the front two players.

If you check out the highlights link from the FIFA page below (seems to work in Internet Explorer for me but not Firefox), he's the number 5 who plays crucial passes in the build up to most of the goals they scored.

http://www.fifa.com/u20worldcup/matches/round=249401/match=58869/index.html (http://www.fifa.com/u20worldcup/matches/round=249401/match=58869/index.html)

Hope that's enough, as I say, not much footage of him about, as he's only broken into the Boca team since the new year.

Round of 16 bracket

Austria v. Gambia
USA v. Uruguay

Spain v. Brazil
Japan v. Czech Republic

Chile v. Portugal
Zambia v. Nigeria

Argentina v. Poland
Mexico v. Congo

A lot of good games there.  USA vs Uruguay and Zambia vs Nigeria stand out.

It's fucking bullshit how Czech Republic beat Spain today.  What a boring ass semifinal that one promises to be.  It would have been a much much much much better game if it was Spain vs United States.  The Champion is coming out of tomorrow's quarter finals game.

hey i wanted to see u.s. vs. spain as much as the next guy, but u gotta admit, it was horendous 2 watch the u.s. play in the 2nd half-extra time for the most part...and u gotta give it up 2 the czech, 3 of those penalties where FANTASTIC :o

no goalie in the world stops those...u can tell they are very well trained when it comes 2 taking penalties...they are not as flashy as spain, but they hold a lot of skill as well
Title: Re: U-20 World Championship in Canada
Post by: Javier on July 14, 2007, 11:03:02 PM
When it comes to penalties yeah they are fantastic, but come on their play was whack.  They weren't even counter-attacking, it was strict defense.  In the entire game they had about 2-3 plays lol.  Spain deserved to win, luck wasn't on their side today.

U.S.A's coach should have taken out Altidore in the extra time, that guy was way too fucking tired.  Along with pretty much the entire team since the U.S was the one doing the most work, so it's understandable that they didn't have much in the second half of Extra Time.

Austria vs Czech Republic
Chile vs Argentina

I think Austria is going to the Final, I'm not too sure on the other one.  It all depends on the health of two offensive minded midfielders from Chile, if they're healthy than I can ee Chile taking it.

You gotta applaud the great display of diving and bossing the refs around like if they were kids from Argentina.  They really "earned" it.

Glad Argentina won, the Czechs made almost zero attempt to attack throughout the whole game. The referee gave way too many free kicks and yellow cards though.
