Man you already proved you don't know shit about football. But i'll take this post as an example to show you why. First of all nobody gives a shit about playing top notch football in here. It's all about winning. Do you remember Argentina in the last South Americans tournament? They were playing outstanding football, destroying everybody. Brazil was playing boring defensive football, and everybody was hating on Dunga. Brazil won the Cup by defeating Argentina in the finals. That's everything will be remembered in the future: Brazil won, Argentina lost. So the fact that Italy doesn't play an offensive type of football doesn't mean shit. As a matter of fact Holland, Spain, Portugal, Argentina, Holland.. are the teams known for playing always top notch football. But guess what? They didn't win SHIT in the last 10 years. Italy never played top notch football but still won a World Cup final and lost an European final in overtime. So, once again, it's all about winning the damn thropies. Nobody will remember how Italy played in Germany 06, but everybody will remember they won the Cup. Get it? Plus Holland embarassed Italy, true. But it was just a fucking game, Jesus!! Do you remember the last time those two teams faced each others? Italy won 3-1 in Holland. Destroying the Dutch in their own home. That was just a game too. Nobody here celebrated that win. Nobody really cared about it. And that's probably what makes us different (and Elano is trying to tell it to you from a while): WE CELEBRATED THE WORLD CUP VICTORY, not a 3-1 in Amsterdam win against you guys!! A game is just a game. It's all about the Cup's!! That said, we outplayed Romania. Buffon was lucky with that penalty save (actually he's the best GK in the world, and he made an amazing save), but you should also say that it wasn't even a penalty! And that Italy scored a cristalline regular goal with Luca Toni before that, but the linesman saw a (non)offside. And about the Ribery injury, you should also remember we lost our two starting central defenders (Cannavaro and Barzagli) due to injury. And they are as important as Ribery is for France for our team. And that red card was a red card. Really.... you have no reasons to bitch about Italy! We survived the "group of death" by playing better than Romania and France. And we stand a chance against Spain. You're just talking shit, so stop it or i'll embarass you even more by adding a couple more of quotes by you in my sig.

Uruguay are actually ranked 17th on the Elo (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/World_Football_Elo_Ratings#Top_40_ranking)! The Dutch ain't got shit on them, just look at the Elo. I agree with Elano: we, as Dutchies, need to show some more respect for great countries such as Italy (5th) and Germany (6th). Even if Oranje were to win from them, that would still mean jack, because of the history. It's all about the history. They lost the finals in 1974 and 1978 while dominating those world cup tournaments in a similar (or possibly even less stunning) way they're doing now with this Euro tourny. They won the European tournament in 1988, and that's all they ever achieved. True. These are common facts, nobody's been hiding them.
Yet what the fuck is your point? Shouldn't we cheer for a country which plays in such an adorable way, especially when it's our country? Let me add some facts that go a little deeper than the lack of trophies you pointed out.

The Dutch have taken the #1 spot in the World Football Elo rankings for the longest since 2000 with the exception of Brazil, France and Argentina. Yes, that's way above the Italians, the Czechs and the Spanish. During that period, the German's haven't taken the #1 spot at all.
All time European Championships rankings: The Netherlands: #2 (behind Germany, but above France, Italy, Czech Rep, Spain etc.).
Overall top scorers: Patrick Kluivert being in a shared third position (six goals during Euro 2000). I don't see any Italians or Germans that high. Van Basten scored 5 in 1988, and Van Nistelrooij 5 also in 2004.

BJv: Lol @ James Dean, good comparison....I don't think you can be mad at Hiddink, personally. He really shaped this team, he put a whole lot of effort into making those Russians no one had ever heard of before into what seems to be becoming a new European top team, so I think it is kind of understandable he's happy about winning, even if he's Dutch. He also went to Van Basten after the game and made a kinda nice gesture, so he acted like a decent person in my opinion.

At the danger of repeating myself, first thing he did was going to Van Basten and shaking hands, and this team (Russia) is his life at the moment, how can you be mad? It wasn't anything anti-Dutch...just because Podolski and Yakin, I mean no disrespect to them, but just cause they didn't celebrate when scoring goals against Poland/Turkey, it's not everyone's new obligation to mourn patriotically at beating or scoring against the country you might have come from, especially if you're a manager leading a young team of outsiders into the semis of the world's 2nd biggest soccer competition. As long as you don't disrespect them, that's alright, and in no way did Hiddink do that.

But I wasn't even referring to quality, I was referring to size, i.e. standards in terms of scale. Plus "World Champion" still is the greatest and most prestigious title of all without a doubt.

Italians must be the weakest team in history of football, their cowardness and acting are well known arround the world. Its a shame for UEFA and football and for human kind that they went to quaterfinals like they allways did as maggots and worms, crawling like snake trough the grass. But snakes will get their head cut off soon.
