posted from raskasscentral.com EXCLUSIVE NEWS: On June 30th, the Court System handed John Austin (Ras Kass) a 3 year sentence to be served in the California State Penitentiary. He actually has to serve a certain amount based on what "strike" he was handed. If this is a First Strike, he has to only serve 50% of the handed sentence with 2-4 months already accredited to the sentence because of his time in the Las Vegas and Los Angeles jail systems. If this is considered a Second Strike, then Ras Kass will have to serve 85% of the handed sentence. Either way, Ras's management is predicting that Ras Kass will be released around this time in the Summer of 2004. To continue to give support for Ras Kass and the Free Ras Kass Movement, I have been in contact with Chino XL. He has agreed to offer any type of support needed to support Ras Kass in these struggling times. This will be an open invitation for any and all Hip Hop Artists who want to contribute to a track or project to support the movement. More information to follow once all projects and connections are made and organized. And something that I did not add to the News: I might be working with Ras's peeps to get in contact with Wendy Goldstein and try to just directly ask her and Capitol Records about what can we do on behalf of Ras to get him out of the contract. He is only still being held on because of his latest insults to the company which they took personally. So if we can offer some form of apology , and an agreement, I think that we can get him out of the contract...NO Lawyers, NO BS, just man to (wo)man convo, and hoepfully I can actually talk to her directly MYSELF. I will let everyone know how this goes. Peace.
Damn...that's bad news for Ras.
"I've said it here before and I'll say it again; Ras killed someone through drunk driving before, and to carry on driving when drunk after that is sick. "^^^true true..i like ras but for such an intelligent MC he sure is dumb.
Anyone with Ras's alcohol problem does not need jail, they need help. I should know, I grew up around alcoholics and drug addicts my whole life. When a problem gets as bad as I read Ras Kass's in XXL, they need help. Having an addiction does not make you less of a person. Hell Bill Clinton smoked weed, I saw on a TV rerun back in 1992 that he said he wish he would have just said yes, he smoked weed... lol, instead of his politically correct statement I didn't inhale. President George W Bush admitted he used to do crack, and now he is president. The addiction does not make the person bad, and judgement over the addiction does not either. An addiction is a personal problem, that a person needs help to get out of. Ras is an alcoholic, he needs a place to dry himself out. After all, in California, drug addicts no longer go to jail, they go to rehab. Though alcoholics don't, yet there are more alcoholics than drug addicts. Addiction is addiction, and people must realize that before jumping on someone. It impairs judgement, and makes a person do things they normally wouldn't do. I like Ras as an artist, but I ain't saying this because I like him, but because I've seen many people villianized because of their addiction. They cannot help it, and all of his friends that noticed it, they should have got him hel along time ago, because an addict is the last person to know they are an addict.
