Jay-Z Planning Return To Rap
By Shawn Lawrence James
Date: 2/16/2005 2:54 pm
Jay-Z is already plotting his return to rap.
The Island Def Jam Music Group President racked up a plethora of accolades in 2004, but has opted to served double duty as CEO and artist.
The rapper “retired” from Hip-Hop in 2003 following the release of The Black Album and publicly stated that it would take a “miracle” for him to return.
Amidst the emergence of numerous freestyles on the Net and a recent visit to New York City’s Hot 97, Jay-Z recently confirmed what many speculated.
“I won't tour, and I am taking a break, but I'll be back,” He confessed to the Page Six Column in the New York Post. "I am planning on recording again.”
Sources speculate that a new studio album could be offered from Jay later this year. Additionally, Jay reportedly has albums from Memphis Bleek, Young Gunz and Foxy Brown lined up this year.

It was just a marketing scam, I knew it from the beggining and said it many times on this board. Jay-Z is an average rapper with a great marketing and promotion team. You tell everybody it's your last album and your retiring, so they run out and buy it, and then you just set yourself up to make a "comeback" album and everybody gets all excited and runs out and buys it.

No shit Sherlock ;D
We all knew this would happen. I was just hoping it would happen after 2090 since I kinda dislike Jay-Z and his entire style.
-
Hilarious how young haters be hating on Jigga for making a comeback after he announced his retirement, but when DJ Quik does the exact same thing, it's a gift from god, fantastic, etc. ::)
Why retire if you still can make (classic) albums like Blueprint, Black Album.... ?
-
^ exactly, jsut cause jigga is coming back from retirement, dont downplay his skill, black album was sick..

There is a difference Sherlock. Quik was serious about it, you can tell in every recent interview he's done that he had some serious personal problems back then. Whereas Jigga never planned it for a second and only did it as a gay ass marketing stunt

Bingo.
-
stunt or not, aslong as he drops an album as good as 'the black album', i'll be happy.. i havent stopped bumping that & college dropout since they came out
-
trying to pull off a michael jordan...just like jordan his album or whatever he's gonna do will not come to par with his work in the past

Agreed.... First Jake now Englewood, we don't agree on anything but when it comes to Jay-Z we see eye to eye.
And replying to that Elevz No Shit Sherlock post above, I am well aware that I wasn't the only person who knew Jay-Z was just pulling a publicity stunt. It was obvious to anyone who doesn't fall victim to Rockafella's hype and marketing machine. Infact, the only thing I like about Rockafella Records, is the fact that Beanie Siegal and Freeway are both Muslims who talk openly about Islam on some of their records.

I 2nd bingo that.

i'm glad i'm not the only one who sees right through this......jay-z never retired, it was all a scam to get the black album selling off the shelves. and of corse we're going to downplay jay-z's return and glorify quiks.............DJ QUIK IS A BETTER MUSICIAN THAN JAY-Z, like infinite said jay-z is NOT that great of a rapper, IMO he hasn't put together a decent bag of rhymes since the mid 90's , he can't produce, he can't really put together an original song...about all jay-z can do and ever does is dress fancy and recruite a bunch of producers to make him some catchy beats
-

Basically Jay-Z is wack and Quik is dope. And Jay-Z is so heavily favored by the media, yo... I was even thinking that whole R-Kelly beef and the lawsuits was just a publicity stunt, that might be a stretch though.
-
shit I was still waiting for him to leave lol. He didn't even take any time off.

BBBBBBBBBBOOOOOOOOOOO for Gay-z i knew he was trying the master p thing calll it quits to sell albums but i hope the industry dont but this shit i know i wont ill down load if that ::)
-
Stuff like this is just boring. That's the best word for it... the thing is, this guy is so full of himself, like most rappers are... but in reality, most people dont' care. He shouldn't take himself so seriously.
When most rappers rap about how great they are, it's comical and kind of funny, because generally, they're just talking shit.
Jay Z's problem is... he really is pretty fucking good. So when he talks about how great he is, it's almost condescending, and it makes you wonder what is he trying to prove? How many times does he have to mention he's the greatest since Biggie and all of that? Then he makes this big dramatic "I'm retiring" move, everybody knew he wouldn't... and now he's saying he's coming back, the whole thing is a non-issue, nobody cares if he retires, or comes back, or what.
He needs to just live his life, and when it's over, he can look back at what he's accomplished.
Yeah, Jay's good. So what?

Why is it funny? The forum is called the West Coast Connection. Of course people are going to generally like somebody from the west over Jay-z.
-
Jome, you're a real hero, but you kinda made a fool out of yourself in this thread :)
-
OH wait, I changed my mind: Jay-Z is wacc as fucc, he a real Eastside byatch, now all we need is one of those amazing Quik classics.. WESSYDDEE!! ::) :tosser:

Like I said, it's expected, but never the less funny how biased certain people are..
A lot of heads on this board doesn't favor artists from specific coasts, it's about keeping an open mind.

Its not that people are biased. Its that you analogy was Apples and Oranges.

the differenece is that Jay has said that he´s gonna retire since he dropped Reasonable Doubt. go back and check out some of his interviews and shit from that time and you´ll see him talkin bout retiring and focusing on Memphis Bleek and shit.
-
on this mic i like jay more, but i enjoy most quik records more cause his production,
-
i'm glad i'm not the only one who sees right through this......
it would be sad if you were

Perhaps you should take a step back and look at your own biases...
It is apples and oranges.
Jay-z: Retired knowing damn well it was a publicity stunt.
Quik: Retired because of personal issues.
-
The dudes who said Quik is dope and Jay-Z sucks as a reason are morons. Nevertheless the fact remains that Jay-Z is an asshole who never really intended to retire, he just wanted to be in the news, to have people buy his "last album" and to have some content to rap about because he lacks creativity. It is a totally different story with Quik, and that is all that matters. How dope/whack Quick and Jay are is insignificant, but what matters is their intentions behind it. Jay can gobble a dick for this move, no matter if you like his music or not, the bottom line remains: he's done a bitchy bitch-move.

Thank you.

Naww, I will never join neither Jay-Z or DJ Quik's fanclub.
It's just music, and for someone to get so mad at a harmless publicity stunt is hilarious to me.. ;D
-
People like J never retire, they always comeing back if the right project comes. Look at Dre, he was talkin retirement a few years back.

lol at you and the whole "publicity stunt" thing...
It's not about being a fanboy or being in a fanclub, it's about clear thinking and reasoning.
Jay-Z claims to be one of the "realest" rappers alive. When he goes and does something like this it just shows he's not.
-
jay-z, wack? only nas dickriders and internet nerds
-
could care less.
-

It took you one month to come up with that reply.. ???
I don't give a flying shit about who is "real" or not, even the socalled "realest" does publicity stunts, Pac, Biggie, Nas, whoever, you name it.
Some even see The Realest as being "real", some call Benzino a real nigga, personally I don't give a shit, they're purpose/intention is to make money.
-
Who really thought this wasn't going to happen...personally i can't wait for a new Jigga album and hopefully this time if he gets an oppurtunity Quik will give Jay a decent beat!!!
-
u mean like justify my thug?

God damn how much money do you need? Leave already.
-
The thing about Jay and Quik is that Jay-Z announced the fuck out of his retirement in advance, had shit presented to him at the MTV awards, talked about it in like every interview, the media blew it up and he helped it along, he had a fucking RETIREMENT CONCERT in tribute to himself, after he "retired" he kept on selling shit, doing performances, I can't even remember a time where he stopped doing shit. With Quik, he stopped doing music for a long time because somebody close to him died while they were working on shit, and "came back" a discernable period after he "retired." Completely different situations, IMO.

everyone called it
