Title: What is America
Post by: M Dogg™ on September 14, 2003, 09:27:28 AM
All my life, this has troubled me. See, when I think of America, like most the world, I think of all the countries, not the United States. The U.S.'s real name is the United States OF America, not America. America was the name given to the New World by a map maker of the same name. An American is not a red-blooded white person in the U.S. heartland, it's a native to America, may it be Inca, Aztic, Native American in the U.S., native to Chile, Eskemo, you know. What do you think, 'cause this subject has bugged me all my life.

Well, the mapmaker, Amerigo Vespucci, was only immortalized by this name-after by someone else. But it's true that people often call the United States of America just simply America. Can you blame them? The correct name is a terrible mouthfull!
