Yesterday Nipsey Hussle announced that he would be selling 1000 hard copies of his new "Crenshaw" mixtape for $100. (online, it's free)
Alot of mixed reactions on Nipsey's Twitter: https://twitter.com/NipseyHussle (https://twitter.com/NipseyHussle)
Like most people my first reaction was "How the hell is this dude gonna charge a bill for his mixtape ??? A MIXTAPE." but the idea behind it actually makes sense (to me at least)
What do yall think?? Would artists think to go this route?
Obviously not everyone can afford to spend $100 on a cd but if you could would you?

good move, considering jay-z bought 100

if its untagged and mixed properly...

he already sold all the copies he had and make 100 g'z, so it's a smart move imo, he wouldn't have made that much money by putting out a long overdue major debut and he wouldn't have generated as much buzz.

NO DISRESPECT to Nipsey, but jayz did some, old man with money to burn type shit....
he was up late one night after Spotting for beyonce on the weight bench,
and he did some " Infomertial buying ".
Old man doing publicity stunts and trolling the social network now..
jayz already set the standard for mainstream hiphop, jayz made it to where, if you dont want to Battle, well you dont have to. You can just get money and call yourself ELITE, without ever earning the title.
Lmao @ rappers who called them selves the greatest, best, ELITE, legend, goat....etc.
but wont battle, fuck drake and his feelings.

this was a great move and the controversy of the price just drove more ppl to check it out.
and even if they didnt pay for the ppl who got it online might become fans and attend shows and support in other ways or on future projects. it was brilliant each copy has a ticket to a secret show too? GTFOH

absolutely genius. he made a 100k in one day off of selling a mixtape for 100$. anybody that talk down on that is a straight hater to the point they pitiful.

Michael Jackson was originally planning to charge $100 for Invincible but had to scrap that idea after fans were outraged. Now if the greatest entertainer of all time couldn't do that after releasing their first studio album in 6 years...I'm looking at Nipsey like you forreal bruh? I wouldn't pay $19.99 for a mixtape by any artist.

Jay-Z bought 100 copies... $100 x 100 = $10,000 alone off that... and with him buying those copies it helped because think of all those fans that are thinking "oh well if Jigga copped 100 of them this must be a big deal..."
plus he must have had I'm guessing somewhere around a few hundred more fans pay the same price at the swap meet or online
and I've been bumping Nipsey since 2008 putting cats onto him around here, but it's just NOW that everybody is talking about him because of this move and not me showing them his music lol not to mention us discussing it here on Dubcc... Nipsey won
