Romário eight goals shy of hitting the mythical 1000 mark
01 march 2007 13:00
Romário has moved closer to his 1000th career goal with a double scored in his 400th appearance for Vasco da Gama. The former PSV player has taken his all-career tally to 992 goals, following a double scored in the 6-0 win over Fast-AM in the Brazilian cup. Romário is now just eight goals shy of hitting the mythical 1000 mark.

Romário spent five seasons with PSV (1988-1993). Romário spent five seasons with PSV (1988-1993).
41-year-old Romário de Souza Faria wore the Vasco da Gama shirt for the 400th time. He converted a penalty on the close of half time and made it 4-0 in the second half with a neat glancing header, also setting up the sixth goal. The striker was handed his first start for Vasco, after he had had spells with Miami FC and Adelaide United. “Vasco have reached the next round and that’s the main thing”, said Romario after the game. “We played well and won. Bagging one goal was fine, but scoring double is just great.” Romário was wearing a special shirt, showing the number of goals he is shy of hitting the 1, 000 goal mark.

Dude, we're talking about a legend here. -1
To answer your question, the Brazillian league ain't THAT bad.
-
I dont really know the Brazilian league, but Romario could score anywhere. He just want to get past 1000. Aint nothing wrong with that, Pele played most of his career in Brasil.
-
I think it's a gay behaviour nonetheless. That's like Hakeem playing basketball in the Nigerian league just to dominate it like crazy and to get sick numbers. Too scared to compete on the highest level? :camp:
-
regardless of what league he is in now he has scored goals at the highest level.
-
I dont know Hakeem but dont forget Romario is 41 now! I think its still a big accomplishment for him to play in the highest league of Brasil.

How is this gay? ::)

Fuck any Romario haters.
Fair enough he ain't playing at the top level but he is shooting for the 1,000 goals and I respect that.
He will be in my top 5 G.O.A.T. strikers, no question.

Romario is a legend....I'm still pissed off that I couldn't see him playing in world cups after '94 >:(

You're trippin... first, the guy is 41 years old... and on top of that he's obviously been "getting sick numbers" his entire career if he's almost at 1000 goals.

He's a living legend, along with Roberto Baggio he dominated USA 94 striker wise and was unstoppable at Barcelona for a few seasons. Hope he does make it to the 1,000 mark, would be a great achievement. Some of the disrespect in the thread is ridiculous.
