Nobody is talking about the new Suga Free album " The ressurection"
Album's dropping in 16 days.
Go check out his instagram
Anybody had info on This one?
Can't fuckin' wait! 8)
-
Anything Suga Free drops is Fire. Been waiting a long time since thunder and lightning!
-
Yep i'm hype 4 This one
-
looking good yes
-
who’s handling the beats?
-
who’s handling the beats?
The album was announced awhile ago and back then it was said that Quik was handling a majority of the production. I don't know if that's true anymore though, since Quik hasn't said anything about it.
-
Been pumped for this. I was going to say surprised no one is talking about this. Kokane also has a new album coming. Pomona 💪
-
i’ll take 2-3 quik beats at this point
fully produced by quik = instant classic

Definitely hyped to hear this when it drops. Hoping there's some Quik production, we won't know until the album drops.
-
Gonna peep this.....hopefully it has that song "Get It" on it that was previewed years ago at the concert. Like everyone else, I hope hope hope Quik is involved. I need a new summertime album to bump this year.

Would be nice if Quik also mixed it all, but I get the feeling that's not the case.
-
Anyone have a tracklist or anything?? It’s dropping soon. Or any confirmation if Quik is involved? Come on guys. Someone here has to have a connect to Suga Free and can find out.

I tried but you can’t find anything on the album
Idk is this a good or a bad sign ??
-
Probably a bad sign. You’d think if this was going to be released in like 8 days, they’d have to have tracklist and songs ready for Itunes and such. To hear nothing other than a little blurb from Free’s Instagram is not a good sign. Nothing on any of Quiks social media about it either.
EDIT: Free just updated his Twitter , 10 days away. So maybe it really is dropping.

Album produced by westcoast stone and fingers

He's been counting down the days to the release date on his Instagram for almost the past month so I would say it's much more than a "little blurb." He also had an album cover release contest and posted a ton of different covers. That doesn't make me too confident in the quality of the album though if he's being cheap and having a cover contest.

True, but The Game's "Blood Moon: Year Of The Wolf" compilation was great and that cover was fan-made too, right?

Been waiting for that song for years, it would be great!
-
Man so this whole time the countdown on his instagram was only for the release of his single and not the album?? On the kday interview they said it was dropping this week. How disappointing.
-
Was sposed to come out today... Don't see it @ all. It's not even on Apple Music. Wtf.
-
smh
-
Good to hear him in good production. His vocals in recent releases have been very thin sounding and hard to hear. Song's a trip.

Suga Free Delays Long Awaited “Resurrection” LP
Fans of legendary West Coast MC Suga Free has been anxiously awaiting the release of Resurrection, which is set to be his seventh studio LP and the follow up to 2009’s Hi Power Pimpin.
Many were thrown off after a 30-day countdown culminated in the March 27 release of a new Kokane featured single “Hole In My Heart,” instead of the LP. However, according to a rep for Suga Free, the album is on the way — and worth the wait.
another track featuring Snoop Dogg was on the close horizon.
Suga Free has been teasing the LP for a few months now, and — as he tells HipHopDX — he’s aged like fine wine.
“When I first started rapping, I dreamed of rapping the way I rap now,” he says. “Me and Kokane were just saying the other day if somebody could have told us when we were in the fourth grade that we’d be [almost] 50 when we made our best collaboration ever … man.“
An exact release date for Resurrection has yet to be confirmed — but the LP is set to feature (among a familiar cast) DJ Quik on production.
As the album finalized, check out Suga Free’s “Hole In My Heart” featuring Kokane, below.

Can t wait
-
What a bunch of shit. Him and Kokane both pulling the same shit. Promoting the hell out of an album and then nothing. Must be a Pomona thing
-
pushed back

-
honestly saw that coming lol with no promo outside of his IG and no single out I was thinking no way this is dropping so soon, but I’m still hyped for when it does come out
-
I’ve been hyped for the album for years. That’s my worry. The album keeps getting pushed back. If the first couple singles don’t create a buzz, he might scrap it again. I like Free but Hole In My Heart definitely didn’t impress me. The few other snippets I’ve heard from the album sound great. Not sure why he picked this as the first single. Unless he was trying to cross promote Kokane since his album was supposed to be dropping the same time, but apparently that got pushed back too. Now he’s trying to get a Snoop single out there? Why doesn’t he just drop the track with Quik as a single?? That’s his best chance at getting a good buzz for the album.
He needs to drop it before him and Quik start beefing again and then he’ll pull all Quiks songs off the album.
-

PRETTY MUCH

The old generation of rappers need to understand this is not the '90s aymore. U don't announce albums like that no more anyways. So if u do, with a countdown, radio interviews and all that, don't let ur last hardcore fans down like that and push it back AGAIN. That's just stupid. I, for my part, won't check for ur shit anymore. There's enough music out there, no reason to deal with this kind of bullshit anymore.

Yeah the whole bait and switch countdown on his IG was bullshit. And yeah after that radio interview when he said it was definitely coming out that week you figure he pretty much had to drop it at that point. But nope, nothing.
-
Old ass rappers with 20+ years in the game and still haven't learned a single thing about marketing.....Only one they should be mad at is themselves
-
Super disappointed that this was pushed back man.
What a way to let down what little fan base you have clinging on.
-
so we got a new date yet or what??
-
Tracklist is out. Another song dropped from the album the other day so hopefully this means the album will be out soon.

just dropped

I’m gonna check it out....

I don’t think it’s better than New Testament or Just Add Water.
What’s up with him using this sample on like 5 tracks?
https://youtu.be/lU4bf3rMqPQ
Also the mastering is god awful. I’ve never heard an album with such glaring differences in volume between songs. For My Niggaz and She Ain’t Giving It Up are quiet as fuck

Had to log in out of retirement to say this is HEAT! CLASSIC! So much game over good production! Let it sink in playa
-
playing it right now. The first 3 tracks are fire
:tupachappy:

Suga Free quote from the KDAY interview regarding DJQuik and the song Good Enough:
“We good, man. He did some production on the record, man. It’s a song called “Good Enough”. We got “Good Enough” right? Ok, so we’re going to give you a four-piece! Again, this song is fueled with comedy. It’s real catchy, very, very, very catchy. We recorded this right here in Burbank. Three days I was out here, working on this one song. I actually wrote this out!”
Sounds like it would have been amazing. Supposedly he had it with him at the kday interview and they played it (?). Someone had to have heard it.
-
Why on earth aren't all tracks the same volume? Shit stressin' me the fuck out.

One of the lowest quality albums in recent memory:
1. The album sounds like it was mixed with Fruity Loops stock plug-ins (not a good thing).
2. The drums are way too loud on most songs. Poor drum selection as well, the kick is not even tuned to the key of the instruments on most songs.
3. Congestion around 250Khz and 500Khz on most songs. A sign of amateur mixing.
4. This album wasn't mastered - every song has different volumes and it sounds like it was recorded in different studios.
5. Cheap microphones - you can tell that this album was recorded with $100 dollar microphones into cheap converters, the vocals are sterile and boxy sounding, lack of de-essing.
6. Too much compression on most songs - no dynamics at all.
7. The bass just sounds terrible. The low-end is muddy and there is no separation between the low frequencies, the lower-mids and the mids. Sheesh, this is the worst mixing I have ever heard on a commercial release. Even most low budget mixtapes from the hood sounds better than this.
Final grading:
Lyrics & Content: B-
Beats: C
Mixing: F
Mastering: F
I'll give this album D- grade overall or a 3/10.
It sounds like Suga Free spent more money at McDonalds than mixing or mastering this album.

If this album was mixed properly it could actually be considered one of his best albums. The Snoop song is classic.

All you had to do was look at the album cover to instantaneously know how much (or little) money was sunk into this project. Still....Suga must have done you wrong badly for you to register and hate on this album in your first ever post lmao

In addition to this I don't know why most tracks are around 2 and a half minutes long
-
a BIG shame about the mixing and mastering of this, i dont care how good the music is, if the quality sucks, then thats just f'd up...especially since suga free fans been waiting ages on this.....
-
The way he was carrying on in the KDAY interview, he talked like this was going to be his best work ever. Like fans weren’t going to believe the tracks he had. The rope a dope, greatest comeback of all time, back with dj quik. And what we got was a bunch of poorly mixed two minute tracks that about half of them weren’t even good and Quik was barely on it and doubt he produced anything on this besides Hearts. And honestly that was probably a leftover from some other project that Quik basically just threw him a bone and let him have it cause Quik wasn’t doing anything with it.
I do not believe for one second that Suga Free submitted this finished product and truly thought in his mind this was his greatest work since Street Gospel. This album seemed like a half assed attempt to throw some shit together for a quick cash grab and not an album that he had been working on for the past 5 years.

I strongly disagree. His flow, lyrics, and beats are all quality Suga Free. The only thing you can tear apart is the mixing and mastering and rightfully so but that doesn’t mean he didn’t try to put together a slumpin album. If it was mixed properly this album would slap. There’s hope this might actually be done. He might have felt rushed releasing it since he’s been delaying it for a while

All you had to do was look at the album cover to instantaneously know how much (or little) money was sunk into this project. Still....Suga must have done you wrong badly for you to register and hate on this album in your first ever post lmao
I don't think they were hating at all. That's actually a pretty damn accurate portrayal of the album. Suga Free, who came up under one of the greatest engineer/producers in rap music (Quik), should know better and have higher standards when it comes to mixing and mastering. Not saying he has to spend a ton of money and have Quik mix his album and Brian Big Bass Gardner master it, but he could at least go somewhere that would do the basic stuff right. I could spend literally 5 minutes in any DAW with a free limiter plugin and fix the inconsistent volume levels. There's no excuse for this shit.

I never disagreed with what the poster said, the only reason I called it ''hating'' is because he signed up to the forum for the sole purpose of posting that review possibly never to return again.

Shit sounds cool but yes the mixing and mastering are a nightmare...
-
any production credits?

There are a lot of good songs, but nothing really stands out for me.
Whatever happened to "I Care About My Hair"? He even shot a video with Snoop Dogg and Michael Epps.. that 5 second sample on IG sounded great.
I agree with you all, there's no excuse for not mixing/mastering an album, even mixtapes sound better. Seems really rushed, like a list of short songs, not a real album.

Totally agree my friend. I'm really dissapointed about Quik production. Anyway, it's always good for me hear Suga Free new music

Maybe this was released unfinished just to throw us something to bump since it was delayed and there will be a proper cd released later??? Here are some reasons why I don't think this is the final version of the album.
So many short songs, they may be incomplete / missing a verse.
Seems odd that there's that one sample used on several tracks, some tracks even sound similar. Seems like they could be rough drafts he was spittin on. Maybe cd will contain one final version of the beat and a longer song? Who in the right mind would use same sample that many times and even on a couple similar sounding beats?
Levels are so off seem like rough mixes that haven't been through final mix / master, maybe they are off on purpose so you don't have a decent sounding rough draft...it's supposed to sound rough.
The Quik track(s) that we new were coming are missing, only one is Hearts. If the track(s) are really that dope Suga Free probably wouldn't throw them on an early rough preview of the album. I hope he would be smart enough to keep them unheard until the final release since they are a big part of the anticipation for the album.
Suga Free is a professional, he's never released some bullshit with mixing all off like this or released a half assed album, they've ranged from really good to classic.
With all the shit he was sayin' to pump the album up, Quik tracks missing, quality off, strength of previous albums and the potential that you hear in what he did put out on this digital version...I just can't see this being finished, I think it's just a taste of the shit he cooked up. I have hope that we're in for a dope as fuck completed album.

If that's the case it would be pretty fucked up of Suga Free to make fans pay twice, once for the garbage version and again for the polished version

Yeah that would be fucked up. But it might be as easy as Suga Free re-uploading the final version in place of the current version and if we've already paid for it, we can just re-download it.
I'm giving Suga Free the benefit of the doubt on this one and hope he won't do us wrong.

glad to hear its going to be fixed because this is a solid album as far as Suga Free's lyrics and concepts go, definitely his best work since Smell My Finger

I might fuck around and master this shit soon. Can't listen to it properly the way it sounds
-
If you do remaster it, can you remove that annoying whispering LFingaz voice that is in the beginning of literally almost every song on the album!!?? Seriously Free makes it so hard for his fans to enjoy his music. And his lyrics are so on point, just ashame the production and mixing can’t hold up.

shit please fuck around and do that ASAP hah

I would have to get the actual session files in order to remove any vocals. Can only adjust volumes, fades and maybe fix some glitches or distortions here and there. Plus it's not unusual these days that producers put their tag at the beginning and end of songs. It's a business: the more tags the less for the beat. There're actually way worse cases (for example here here (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-f0xUk24Pdk) and here (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c4Hm7WQnZrA)) ;) I personally can live with it

I guess producers marking their tracks is something i have to get used to. Just used to the old school songs not having that.

Cool thanks for the info. Probably for that Gemini project. Unfortunately it’ll probably be years before we get it, if ever. Hopefully someone will leak it cause it was on the advance tracklist and they had it at the radio station when they did that KayDay interview.

Just checkin out the OG version, uneven mastering aside, the production's great so far. So many SF songs lately been poorly mixed, can barely hear the vocals. Can hear everything on this one.
