some say his the best, others say his one of the best........both is a huge compliment to anyone.....where do y'all place him
-
personally i enjoy his voice, flow and lyrics more than any other rapper....
-
One of the best 8)

good but overrated.

i would say overrated when comparing him to pac or saying that he's the best ever. his voice and flow is so smooth and he was a great stroy teller but i think he went to early and that limited his longevity in the game and that hurts his stake as the greatest ever. a top 10 IMO.
-
good but overrated.
-
top 3 for me
-
His only two albums were classics. I'd put him up there amongst the best,
chill
-
good but overrated.
-
I'd def say he's near the top based on voice and lyrics alone, but his death pushed him over the top to a level he might not have kept up if he'd lived
-
Top 10.
Somewhere in their.
Releasing 2 classics and the impact he had on hip hop in such a short time shows how great he was. What he did in 3 years is more than what most people do their whole careers.
-
good but overrated.
nothing is funnier though when someone says he's better than 2Pac, and they honestly mean it...

Why is that? Its a matter of taste. I'd pick B.I.G. over Pac any day. Pac was amazing too though.

^^ not even man, it's one thing to say who u prefer, it's another to go against fact especially when ur being bias and u know it (not u personally)
that's like me sayin Daz is a better rapper than 2Pac, I listen to Daz stuff more than 2Pac and I have more of a feeling for the majority of his stuff, but I do like 2Pac a lot... it's just fact that Daz isn't a better rapper than 2Pac if u compared track records, ya know?
and, you'd rather have a wall-eyed jabba the hut spittin lyrics with a cheeseburger in his mouth than a Westsider Rider?

Well, you cant compare Daz and Pac with Big and Pac. Everybody knows Pac and Big are way better than Daz when it comes to lyrics. That why there are always different opinions about whos better, Big or Pac. And its always the smallest thing that evenutally helps you make that choice. Wheter you like Pac's agressive flow or Biggies more laid back...

Couldnt care less about how a rapper looks or what he does in his "spare time."
-
MAYBE top 5... but thats a huge maybe.... probably top 10. i really dont get anythin from his music beside his flow (which is dope). overrated...

but that's the thing, it's like the only reason they are even comparing him to 2Pac is because they had beef and he died after he did.... I'm not tryin to put his shit down, I'm just lookin at it from a realistic standpoint

Strongly disagree. But I gues we will never agree on this topic. We can agree we disagree though :P
-
Like my boy West Coast said the only reason he is regarded as one of the greatest is because his a pacs murders are linked in a way. But no way is he better than pac and to me he is probably number 10 and thats a big probably. Ready to Die great album Life after Death was pretty good but not great.
-
and, you'd rather have a wall-eyed jabba the hut spittin lyrics with a cheeseburger in his mouth than a Westsider Rider?
in that same sense, you'd rather have a backup ballet dancer than an "walled eyed jabba the hut" ?
with Big's impact on hiphop, his flow, his lyricisms (what it comes down to).. Big is ATLEAST top 3
-
Top 10.
Would maybe sneak in at 5 or 6 but nothing higher than that.

I just love listening to his songs to laugh...it's really hard to keep a straight face listening to him.
"I'm interrupted by the doorbell...3:52 who the hell.......................is this" --Somebody's gotta die
"If I got to chose a coast I got to chose the east/I live out there so don't............go there" --Going back to Cali
I've gotta make a Biggie mix someday and put his funniest lines together someday. But it's just so hard to listen to his music without laughing.
-
top 10. hes definitly overpraised imo

lyrically biggy is better 2 me

well if u compare them like dat, biggie was the best rapper, he was pushing ill punchlines and multi syllables one after one with one of the greatest flow ever, he was able to switch his flow on demand. Listen to life after death, he switch his flow like 10 times on this cd. His metaphore were amongst the best, and they were sometimes funny as fuck. but i do prefer 2pac, 2pac is my number one, but for other reason than lyricism. And don't forget his storytelling, plus i think he was the best in term of versatility, he did great club songs, street anthem and straight gangsta shit. There is not a style that biggie didn't mastered.

1.Jay-Z
2.Biggie
3.Tupac

Completly agree. I'm going with 2Pac because the dud can do just about anything. Like Bad Boy Killer said he was so versatile and always had some real shit to say.
1.Jay-Z
2.Biggie
3.Tupac
What are you smoking?

He was talking about Biggie

for real?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?
Why is that so hard to believe? Its not like he said Daz is better than Pac.
Jeez, I know this is a westcoast forum and all, but at least try to be more objective.
-
I prefer 2Pac as a rapper, but I can see why someone would pick Biggie over Pac. As an artist, a as public figure as a whole though, it's not contest. Pac takes that eeeeeeeasily.
-

^^what he said...whats funny to me is you picked 2 random lines, ok maybe not technically very impressive, but use that alone as an example of why you find Biggie laughable... ::) please elaborate...
with the body of work Biggie created in the short space of time he was around, he's gotta be up there in the top 10 or maybe even top 5 for me...as far as the whole who's better, Big or Pac, imo Biggie was far better technically, as far as his flows, metaphors, storytelling ability...but what Pac lacked in those aspects, he more than made up for with his charisma and personality, which came through so strongly in his music...im a big fan of both artists, so thats what i think... 8)
-
see some nice breast in the west. i don't see whats not dope about biggies lyrics and delivery, if its funny its funny cause its dope.
-
He had the potential to be among the greatest.
But he has only 2 albums which is not enough material to put him high on your list.
Even if you believe those 2 albums are classics I think you can't say he is the G.O.A.T.
So he is not high on my list. Maybe Top 25, but not Top 10.

1.Jay-Z
2.Biggie
3.Tupac
What are you smoking?
This is basically it...Tupac had the best lyrics but his flow is average, Biggie has the best flow but his lyrics weren't always top notch, Jay-Z has pretty much the total package, he has a sick flow and can rhyme with the best of them, but it's just my opinion, no need to hate
-
to me the best was pac, my favourite rapper is snoop, but i have no problems with cats who think biggy is better, nuff cats beleive that, biggy had an amazing way of flowing his thoughts together whether it be a club jam or a serious jam, biggy is in my top 5, damn people cant deny biggy, if your speaking about how death put him to new heights, than people can argue that point alot more for pac, even though i beleive his the best
peace...........biggy gotta be given his props, top 5 of all time
-
1.Jay-Z
2.Biggie
3.Tupac
there is no way you can rate biggie as the 2nd best rapper ever.
he just isn't - I can't really put forward an argument against it apart from the fact I can name 5 rappers off the top of my head more deserving of the top 5 G.O.A.T. spots.
#2 is just as over-generous
-
Top 10.......Wouldnt get in my top 5.......ever.
-
He's possible top 5, most likely top 10. I can't really see how he could be better than Pac - theres just so much more Pac to listen to, plus like half of one of Biggies albums is filled with shit. But i agree that his flow is damn good, and some of his songs are pretty amazing. I guess its just my opinion, but i would say that Pac is just much better, cant really substantiate it that much, but agree with what most of you have been saying.
I dunno how someone could say Jay-Z greatest rapper of all time though ???
I'm a shit judge, but he wouldnt make my top 25, and if so pretty much on only one or two songs, but then i dont have reasonable doubt yet...
-
Me, being from the Westcoast, listening to both of them before they died, i liked Biggie more, I really did not dig tupac until after he died, but even then Biggie > Tupac IMO
thats just me, and i still feel that way
-
As an MC, Biggie is easily Top 10, and probably above Pac. I like Pac as much as everyone else, but Biggie was an infinitely better MC - I will never forget hearing "Unbelievable" the first time and listening to him flow and thinking "Gat DAYUM!" to myself. Listen to the way he just pops off rhymes in rapid succession and yet he still manages to neatly assort every syllable into a clever metaphor and maintain a crystal-clear flow all at once - can you imagine the kinda breath control it takes to do shit like that? How many other MCs' can you name (Pac included) that would be able to pull off those kinds of verbal acrobatics without tripping themselves up and degenerating into adlibing and mumbling?
Pac was, however, vastly superior to Biggie as a lyricist. And Biggie could be an incredible storyteller, but Pac's charisma and mic presence were second to none. When Pac rapped, he didn't need to draw me in with complex flows and wordplay - he just wowed me with the raw emotion and introspectiveness that marked almost every verse. And of course, he had that distinctive God-like voice that made you think you were really hearing a street prophet in the flesh. Even when he was saying shit that cliched or not all that profound, Pac's personality just radiated from every bar - there are so few other rappers that had his mic presence.
Personally, I've always liked Pac better, but I ain't gonna deny that Biggie was ill as fuck.
-
and, you'd rather have a wall-eyed jabba the hut spittin lyrics with a cheeseburger in his mouth than a Westsider Rider?
this is one of the dumbest things i have ever read on here. Just the fact you base a rapper on his looks is suspect.
-
#2, he's one of the best ever to bless the mic... but for me, 2pac is #1 for the simple fact that he was an activist and used his talent as a voice for millions apart of the struggle. that alone solidifies him for the #1 spot.
-

Agree. My main problem with BIG is he only had one classic album. For him to be called GOAT or even put in top five off one classic album despite his influence in his short years is crazy to me. Rakim, BDK, G Rap, Pac, Scarface, Cube-I could never put BIG over those guys based off catalogue and I am talkin quality not quantity.
Co-sign RBXtra's post on the differences, strength, and weaknesses of Pac and BIG. Personally BIG is in my top 20.

What the hell is wrong with the people on this forum? Have you ever paid attention to what 2Pac brought to the table as what's seen as his most successful cd of all time, All Eyez On Me? That CD had some good beats and it was like real smooth, but the raps were rather simple and I dare calling them weak. How some of you label it "common sense" that 2Pac should be above Biggie at any time, is beyond me.
To me, with Ready To Die Biggie proved that he's one of the smoothest rappers of all time. No one could rhyme like that. It wasn't extremely complicated, in fact his style was rather simple, but it was so effective. That album has to be (one of) the greatest gangsterrap album(s) of all time. At least, to me it really is without a doubt. Life After Death does have some great songs on it, but it has way too many average tracks and even some filler material, to be even considered a classic. But with that in the back of my mind, 2Pac just couldn't see Biggie when it comes to rapping ability. Pac just had the charisma, he made himself loved by saying some semi-thoughtful things later on on his records. To me, even someone like Killah Priest belongs way above 2Pac on "the list". 2Pac just wasn't a very good rapper.
Biggie: maybe top 5, but certainly top 10
2Pac: somewhere top 30.
Don't hate, it's just my opinion that I'm sharing. Peace.

Homie, if your sole excuse for ranking Pac so low is "All Eyez On Me", you best check yourself right now. "All Eyez On Me" is overrated and FAR from Pac's best work, but even on that album, he was still extremely dope. However, "Me Against The World" is the album that should be used to judge Pac...THAT album is his claim to fame as one of hip-hop's greatest. If you ain't heard that yet, then you best not speak another word (somebody has it in the hookup spot, BTW). And you claim that he only said "some semi-thoughtful things later on on his records"? You must not listen to Pac at all if that's what you think.
Also, there's many ways of defining a great rapper. Biggie was a better MC than Pac, I've said that, but Pac was a better lyricist, and quite possibly a better rapper overall.
-
2Pac: somewhere top 30.
I don't hate you, but that shit is ridiculous.

The Makaveli album is also overrated, IMO. It's got some hot diss tracks, but not a lot else, and most of the production is weak. I bought that album the week it came out back in '96 and I was disappointed with it. And then I bought the Remastered edition about two years ago after I lost my original copy, and I'm still not feeling it...I actually prefer "All Eyez On Me" over "The 7-Day Theory".

i like feel bad sayin i dont really feel biggie cause EVERYONE gives him just crazy props. But in all honesty i always preffered tupacs flow. I think biggies is boring and unoriginal and although tupac always has the same flow its original and it always sounds good. I always found biggies rhymes and lyrics lazy and extremely simple, and yeah tupac isnt the best emcee but like everyones said between his voice, charisma, and what he says, it doesnt matter. No one else on earth can pull off being an only average emcee and having just about everybody love his music. And its not like i hate biggie, cause his verse on notorious thugz and the song juicy are two of my favorite of all rappers, but someone show me an example of his incredible metaphors and rhymes cause neither of his cd's impressed me aside from a few songs. i would say biggie is top 20 objectively, but personal favorties for me itd be lower cause theres just so many rappers ide rather listen to.

With the exception of the last two songs, I wasn't really feeling a lot of those beats. Darryl Harper and Hurt-M-Badd just aren't that good. Pac should've at least worked more with QD3 and Johnny J on that record, cause even tho they ain't great either, they tended to bring out his best.
-
I've heard all of 2Pac's discography and I own some of his albums. Me Against The World is a nice album, but to me it's nothing more than that. It's just that I most recently listened to AEOM and it just totally sucked for me. I never really liked his Makaveli album, I've always found that one amazingly overhyped. Other than that... 2Pac was nice early on in his career, but not really suspenseful. Later on he seemed to catch up on depth a little, but he got boring for me. His flow (he inhales through half of the words) and rhymes are weak. Don't believe the hype!
