Title: DUBCNN: Exclusive Interview With MC Ren!
Post by: Chad on October 17, 2008, 05:17:45 AM
(http://dubcnn.com/interviews/mcren08/mcren.jpg)

It’s the return of the Villain on Dubcnn! From the Hoopla Media Group office in Louisville, KY, west coast icon MC Ren sat down with Chad Kiser & Jon Hay to discuss his much-anticipated upcoming project, Renincarnated, as well as sharing his views on the American economy, politics, the presidential election, and more. We also take a trip down memory lane to talk about Eazy-E, DJ Train and what it was like during those recording sessions with Ice Cube, Dr. Dre and the rest of N.W.A.

The mainstream media has continued to show it’s admiration & respect to fellow legends Ice Cube & Dr. Dre, even though Ren was instrumental in the group’s success followiing Cube’s departure. Ruthless from the beginning, MC Ren was the lyrical catalyst behind N.W.A.’s 100 Miles & Runnin’ EP and the multi-platinum classic Efil4zaggin, as well as Eazy-E’s solo debut Eazy Duz It.

In this no-holds barred interview with the mad scientist, Dubcnn gets the exclusive info on Renincarnated, his contributions to the RBX & Big Rocc project known as the Concrete Criminals, and what, if any, his part will be in the final Dr. Dre opus, Detox.

Be sure to hit MC Ren up on Myspace and by also checking out the official MC Ren forum.

As ever, you can read this exclusive interview below and we urge you to leave feedback on our forums or email them to chad@dubcnn.com.
.
It’s the Villain in black, and he’s about to attack!

Dubcnn: Okay, tell us a little about the project. Who do you have producing on it & what features are on it?

Right now we’re in about halfway. I’m doing most of my own production on that sh-t. I don’t want to feature nobody on my sh-t right now because too many records right now be just features on it. Motherf-ckers pay their money to hear you and they hear you spit like a 12 or 16, and that’s it on the whole album, so I don’t want nobody on my sh-t.
:-\ sounds like Ren is taking the ego trippin' route  ::)

damn, Ren is one my favourite artists, but what made him think that he can produce  :-\

Quote
Dubcnn: I heard at one time there was a group forming wth you, RBX and Big Rocc called the Concrete Criminalz, is that still something that’s in the works?

No, what it is, Rocc is my homeboy and I did a couple tracks for theie project, with some beats and that’s it. I saw that sh-t on the computer one day and was like I’m in a group? Nah, I was never in the group, that’s them, not me. I just did a couple beats for them.

:-X so i guess RBX made that shit up, what a bitch move  :P

anyway, so in stead of Ren blessing the concrete criminals project with a few verses, he's fucking it up with his 'production' skills?  :baseballbat:

Quote
Dubcnn: You say you haven’t talked to Dre since the Up In Smoke Tour, so I guess we can’t look for you on Detox then?

Nope, but my sh-t is going to be tight though. I’m like Don King, I gotta pump up my sh-t right now!
:-\ that's fucked up, really

Well didn't he make like 3 songs with Ren earlier? Anyways, yes some other "real" producer would be as good.

No i've since learnt his Management mis-informed us at the time that it was a group. We just did an RBX interview (one done, another one to follow that hopefully will do some more back in time stuff) and RBX Says the following:

"With my partner Big Rock I have the Concrete Criminals. We have a guest appearance from MC Ren which is rare. So we got activity poppin’ and I figure around four projects are going to drop simultaneously. Then I’ll tell you about the other treats after that."

Full interview coming on Dubcnn in a few days.

I didn't get that vibe. Just seems like they both doing their own things. Ren's been kind of AWOL from the music scene as of late and Dre has a lot on his plate so it's not like it's an unusual situation.

im glad some rappers nowadays still have that attitude

im sick of these BS albums being put out with 1-2 features on every song, and different producers for every track. its not an album, but a compilation

like ren says, if i buy an album i pay my money to hear that artist, not 10 other rappers ruining that shit - thats what i fear for detox. its dre's final album so i wanna hear what he has to say before he retires, but im worried thats its gonna be 2-3 features on every track

fuck that shit!
at least we know what we get with ren - straight up realness and honesty

props for the interview

Nice interview. The 2 tracks I have heard from Ren for his new album are cool, but I know he can do better. Its a shame that all the NWA peeps don't stay in touch more often and collab but the important thing is some new Ren music is coming soon. Shame that the Concrete Criminals is a wash as well.

notice how Cube gave a different impression of whether they stay in touch, in a recent interview ( can't remember which one).

then again, Cube didn't go off the radar like Ren.

speaking of collaborating; well it shouldn't be forced, but yeah it would be cool to see them hook up again at least one more time.
Cube made a step forward with Raw Footage ( in compared to LNCL), Dre is still doing his thing so he's ready to take place behind the boards; only Ren is slipping, so he could use some directions.

It almost seems like with Dre and Cube they make a effort to contact each other on business. Ren it seems like with Dre it is different. But even a track or 2 here and there collabos would be nice. Last time Cube and Ren worked together was on Duece right?

i feel you,but on the other hand you got rappers actin like its Dre's fault that the west fell off cause he aint fuckin with nobody. also,to be perfectly honest where would Ren be without Dre?. so of course those same old questions are gonna come up. everyone wants Dre to fuck with the usual suspects on Detox or in general so the questions will always gravitate that way.

MC Ren Returns As Rapper, Producer & Radio Host
As both a solo artist and a founding member of NWA, MC Ren has logged countless hours behind the microphone. While Ren is continuing to complete his upcoming album RenIncarnated, he's currently focusing his energies in a different booth.
"I have a radio show that’s starting on the 29th of this month," Ren tells HipHopDX. "I'll be on 92.5 KYHY, and people can catch that at www.925burbank.com. I’ve also got some other shit in the works. The company I’m working with told me don’t speak on it right now, so I gotta keep my mouth shut. As soon as it happens though, I’ll let [everybody] know. It’s gonna be big."
In addition to his radio show, "The Villain" is taking pages out of both Ice Cube and Dr. Dre's playbooks with a few upcoming ventures.
"I did the movie Lost in the Game with Image Films in 2002," says Ren. "But I’ve got some bigger movie shit planned too. I just can’t tell you about it yet. People can check out everything I’m working on at www.myspace.com/mcrenofficialmyspace."
During his time away from the spotlight, Ren has also kept in touch with NWA's extended family tree by working with Dogg Pound affiliate RBX. However, some may be surprised that Ren's contributions are not just lyrical.
"I’m fucking with the beats again," says Ren. "RBX and my homeboy Rocc are in a group called the Concrete Criminalz. I did some tracks on their shit, and I did some tracks on my own new shit. I’m really just trying to get back on those tracks, man."
The MC Ren Radio Show premieres Wednesday, Oct. 29 at 7 p.m. PST.

(hhdx)

What's craccin?

I'm a producer on MC Ren's new online radio show and I promise you that it's gonna be off the chain (It will feature him playing classic Hip Hop and his take on sports & other issues affecting the community).

The first show streams this Wednesday 10/29 at 7PM Pacific so be sure to check it out.

The station website is www.925thewhy.com

Peace,
Nate Geezy

Overnight Blackman unreleased NWA track; (Hip Hop Connection December 1989 #11) Read more about it here (http://www.dubcnn.com/connect/index.php?topic=150824.msg2050143#msg2050143)

^^^^^^^
It looks like there's two (at least) unreleased NWA tracks; (Ren also talks about a gang off leftovers from the Niggaz4Life sessions in his thaformula.com interview)
-One Cube & Ren track
-Overnight Blackman (Ren solo?)

^^^^
would nice if DubCNN could ask Ren and/or Cube about these next time DubCNN catch up with them.
Same with the War disc leftover (unreleased) that BobCat produced;
Yash:
What happened to that track you and Cube did with Bobcat it was suppose to be on his war album?
MC Ren:
He didn't use it he had told me last time I talked to him he was gonna put that shit on somethin change the beat make it more updated put the vocals and shit on it.
I'm sure it gone come out one day if it don't come out now somebody gone put that muthafucka out in ten years from now.

Read rest of the interview here;

Maybe in the future, after I finish up my sh-t.

perhaps collaborating with Game could give Ren some extra energy and inspiration

So he produced an album during the 90s era. So did everyone and their mama. It doesn't make him a great producer. So far the new Ren tracks I've heard had outdated beats. He needs a real producer. Nuff said.

:raisetheroof: what a great surprise Chad; awesome  8)

Dubcnn: You say you haven’t talked to Dre since the Up In Smoke Tour, so I guess we can’t look for you on Detox then?

Nope, but my sh-t is going to be tight though. I’m like Don King, I gotta pump up my sh-t right now!
:-\ that's fucked up, really
