I should have some news in 15-20 minutes
Yea. Whatever I can get. And who that is singing (since it's not Nate Dogg apparently)Hmm..news about what? if this is indeed the single off detox?

No real news for ya that y'all don't know. It's official (obviously) and the album is coming
god i love that piano!
this is detox. THIS IS DETOX. DID YALL HEAR ME? THIS IS MUTHAFUCKIN DETOX!Snoops best verse since 2001 haha finally!
Storch played the keys. It's so obvious
DETOX IS A MYTH..
WHERE YOU AT BRO?
DETOX IS A MYTH..
WHERE YOU AT BRO?
I'm right here. If Detox is finally coming out, then cool. Still doesn't change the fact that my sig has been true for eight years. And, personally, this song is just a bunch of noise to me. Snoop has a nice verse, but Get the Funk Out of My Face is much better than this as a song. I don't like this new age rap sound from the past couple years, at all. If this is what Detox is going to be, well, it won't be for me. Maybe I'm the problem -- it might be time for me to move on. Just keeping it real. Maybe it's time for me to retire from rap music. ? :'(
Anyone else feel this way? I mean, this is nothing near the quality of Dre's past work.
I mean, here's Get the Funk... for comparison: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RgVVWfJrJzc

Ive had this shit on repeat for over an hour now!!
my only complaint is Akon's vocals are so fuckin annoying. luckily Dre put Nate on there to keep him from ruining it.Not Nate Dogg.. His name is Chief Thunderbird AKA Sly

Sounds like Clyde Carson at the beginning of the track.I wish. But I think it's Kobe.
BANGING !!
I mena its cool but no way this is fire. Good song will get old quick.... this album to me is just too late... this record record should of came out when GUnit and eminem was strong in 2003 but u know im repeating myself and i hate when people complain about Detox.I agree with you 210%..song is cool, but nothing to run up and down the streets about...sounds like a pop club beat to me...now -still dre- had that raw hiphop feel to it.this will go away quick...beat is nothing new. :-\
I will buy it enjoy it for what it is.
Like i said song is cool
Is it me or did Dre really listen to what his fans were saying, Scrapped the Jay Z single and not only put Snoop but Nate Dogg with his signature westcoast sound + kept it somewhat radio friendly with the addition of Akon. BTW has anyone heard this on some Beats! 8) You hear all kinds of elements!i'd say it doesn't sound like Dre's signature 'westcoast' sound.
FINALLY a new Dre track to bump in my Beats headphonesRain, Change gonna come, So bad?
It isnt much of a dance record like people anticipated. I think this is Vintage dre, and this is what people wanted to hear, im happy with it, I know people will still hate tho!it's not what i want to hear.
this SHIT IS DOPE!the piano part is alright, but Dre has much better instrumentals wich piano in it, wouldn't you agree?
that piano is fucking insane.. sounds like kobe in the first part of the track, and that's definately nate dogg later on in the track..
can't wait to hear it minus the tags mastered
I'm loving this joint, with it was Nate Dogg on the hook though, but Akon did his thingwtf? i wonder if your comment would be different if Jay-Z was featured in stead of Snoop
Snoop killed it
DETOX IS A MYTH..;D
WHERE YOU AT BRO?
I bet this'll be the next beat Crooked I'll freestyle over in HHR, if he ever gets the beat that is.
Shit is defintately hot and should blow the fuck up . . that being said, I don't think this is on that Still DRE/GThang/etc. level when it comes to smashing the game. Don't get me wrong, it's a good single in today's market, but for the motherfuckin DOCTOR, I think it could have been better. Whatever though, after Under Pressure, this IS Still Dre p2. And ya, Nate on that hook would have been IT for me. Oh and keys are the shit, fuck if it's "outdated".nah man, this is song should be called 'i want radioplay'
oooh man, i'm excited for Detox again :D:eh:
this song is really cool. shame i've got shitty earphones though, need to burn it onto cd to appreciate it even more 8)
I like it, but let's see how this blows up commercially. The best tracks, as always, will be buried somewhere on the album and not meant for radio.hopefully it won't blow up :baseballbat:
I agree about the piano keys on the Studio Beats 8)
Definitely KobeIt's Chief Thunderbird aka Sly.... SLim the Mobster said it

Akon? Kobe? Auto-Tune?
Sounds just like the rest of the commercial bubblegum pop playing in a JD sports store.
About as lyrical as a Sarah Palin speech, some basic piano keys, a hook designed for cheese-clubs where people cant even smoke.
This is for Jimmy Iovines target audience, nothing for the b-boys.
I thought Dre set hip-hop trends, now he just following.
Hopefully it's just a dud amongst an album full of bangers.
anyway, i think this is better than Under pressure, but it sounds like a 'hey let's make a single that sounds like the other songs on the radio' song.
i'd say it doesn't sound like Dre's signature 'westcoast' sound.
anyway, i know opinions differ, but i find the praise for this a little weird, when looking at some of the complaints about Dre's other 'recent' work. not saying that you were complaining though.
it's not what i want to hear.
i prefer something that sounds closer to the stuff that Dre has done for other artists in the last few years.
Dre can do much better

totally agree
Stuff like ... Topless were better to me - harder and more HipHop
I expected some mindblowing music after reading a few comments. Don't get me wrong, the song is hot, but you guys act as if Dr. Dre showed with this song that he's still the best producer around :-\Dre was the best producer around at one point?

i think the majority of people on this forum are not the target audience for this song.
'Kush' seriously pales in comparison to a track like 'The Next Episode' but there is obviously more to come...

I think thats really the track this should be compared to, not Still DRE. And in that comparision, even hearing Next Episode for the first time, you know it was gonna be a problem. This, not so much.
'Kush' seriously pales in comparison to a track like 'The Next Episode' but there is obviously more to come...

word. this is really poor compared to some of dre's previous mainstream singles, makes more sense if it's gonna be a street single/buzz track type of thing. just the overall song structure and way the vocals come off is hella unpolished compared to his normal shit. either this is very unfinished, only gonna be used as an early promotion or what some people have been saying about dre himself...

Never really thought about it until you said it, but that track isn't really that great. It's just a catchy party track. But then again, sometimes what makes a song good isn't determined by the quality of the music. I drop that song in sets (to this day) a lot of the time when the crowd is feeling the hip-hop vibe and immediately the whole dance floor is singing along "Somebody here gon' fuck"
Kush is not what the album is gonna sound like
People tend to overrate 2001
Dr. Dre was just on Power 106 he talked about the leak and Detox.
So Kush leak is unfinished but they see people like it so they gon push it
Detox needs 2-3 more songs and than mastering and it should be done in a month
Snoop and the old roster is gonna be on the album, Kendrick Lamar too
He confirmed that its Sly not Nate
Kush is not what the album is gonna sound like its just one songs a weed smoking song but it will be on the record cuz its a fun track 8)

Glad to hear this. Keeps me checking for this album as a result. But hopefully Kush doesn't sound out of place on album, though.

I don't think it's near The Chronic, and I don't think Detox will be near 2001. 2001 has the best technical polish I've ever heard, but as an artistic statement, I've always felt it was lackluster. The Chronic is just pure art to me. That was Dre's genius -- to take violent, misogynist subject matter, really heinous stuff on the surface, and turn it into art.

Sonically perhaps....but I can't understand people who complain about the lyrics. A Dre album has NEVER been about lyrics. And 2001 had some of the wackest lyrics I've heard.
I can't really see how you would call it art either. Dre's talent is making music that BUMPS. But as far as musical expression his productions have always been very simple and basic.
nothing, i just find it a little weird.oooh man, i'm excited for Detox again :D:eh:

what exactly is difficult to understand about that? ???

Dre can do much better
the piano part is alright, but Dre has much better instrumentals wich piano in it, wouldn't you agree?
I agree with all the stuff you said here...
To me it's basically a Dre piano beat, but sped up a bit, some sort of club effects, and make it sound like a cross between a regular Dre piano beat crossed with any hit on the radio right now
I mean, it's way better than the stuff I hear on the radio, but to me, this is still just a jump-on-the-bandwagon thing of putting Akon on a hook, get some autotune, have a faster tempo for the club
I was hoping for something more... HipHop I guess, though it's pretty cool, it's not wack or anything, just kind of conservative.
Stuff like Flashy and Topless were better to me - harder and more HipHop
so its the beat from the lebron beats ad! i think i preferred it in instrumental form (you could hear it real clearly if you listened closely in the ad). not a fan of akon on here...the song sounds a little messy vocal wise and empty with the beat (unfinished/unmixed?) but still very bumpable cause of the head cracking clap sounds and epic piano.hypeman Matty strikes again
dre's verse is also not memorable and extremely short. now don't get upset detox fanboys (i'm supposed to be one of the biggest right?), just giving some serious opinion on this. also, what's with the version that's almost 4 minutes long and instrumental stuff going on at the end. anyway, i'm calling unfinished/unmixed cause as it is this a serious step down for a dre single. as a buzz track, more acceptable.
no. i know that Dre makes mainstream music & i think he's quite good at it, but this single sounds less like Dre, even though he produced it.Shit is defintately hot and should blow the fuck up . . that being said, I don't think this is on that Still DRE/GThang/etc. level when it comes to smashing the game. Do you really expect a non-pop track? Most of dre's songs are targeted at radioplay. Lets get High, Next Episode, Bad Intentions etc.
That's why I'm not disappointed in this song. People tend to overrate 2001 without going back and listening to the actual songs and the quality of the lyrics. Obviously this isn't on the level of a Still Dre or Forgot About Dre, but after listening to it a few times I think its better than several 2001 cuts.well it's no secret that a lot of people on here like 2001.

lol wtf are you talking about? radio friendly songs were more raw back in the day, more g'd up and shit, it was radio friendly, what was game changing about it at the time was the instrumental and sound of it that dre took, and its impact etc
like i said, this is not game changing (i dont think so anyway) but it banging still
go back inside your eminem poster

I agree. That's a key component. I mean, I don't like hard rock/heavy metal, but Smells Like Teen Spirit is a great song imo. Obviously, it transcends its genre. That's the mark of a great song. Like Nothing But a G Thang -- I have friends who don't like rap, but they love that song. It's transcendental and timeless.
Good post.
Ok, got to stop posting because my lunch break is just about over ;D Talk to y'all later.

nothing. but some people find hip-hop at its best to be a strong artistic expression, for various reasons. if you want to degrade the music to a lower status because of sampling or you find no value in it beyond bumping beats, that's your opinion.
You shouldn't be expecting something sounding like his previous work, considering he has a habit of moving on to different sounds. N.W.A didn't sound like the Chronic, the Chronic didn't sound like 2001, etc.
Kush sounds like it could be on 2001. Same instrumentation, by and large. And as far as what makes The Chronic "art," well, that's a reeeeally open ended question that I have no time to write 10,000 words about. I mean, what makes the Mona Lisa such a great painting when I could just get a brush and an easel and just paint some girl's face. Wouldn't it be the same? No. I suggest you take some art/music appreciation classes, because giving you the answer to your question is like opening a pandora's box. And the best way to answer your question is for you to go on your own journey of discovering what makes classic art, classic art.
If people that don't even like rap music feel this song and people that love rap music feel it then you start getting into classic territory.
Great rock/metal example. I agree 100%. I know tonnes of people who listen to shit other than rap that all know Nuthing But a G thang, expecially the chorus. This is a fun song, not supposed to be super-lyrical, super-deep,etc. It actually woudd be a good Next Episode Pt. 3... that is what it sounds like to me. Also I read that Dre scrapped anything that sounded like 2001 cuz obviously he wants it to be different. People who are expecting 2001 part 2 forget about it, its not happening. I believe Scott Storch said this.
People tend to overrate 2001
But as far as musical expression his productions have always been very simple and basic.
he means the artistic merit of the OG Chronic.
What exactly makes it more artistic than the rest of hip hop? It samples Funk extensively
Lol @ people making something deeper than it is.
nothing. but some people find hip-hop at its best to be a strong artistic expression, for various reasons. if you want to degrade the music to a lower status because of sampling or you find no value in it beyond bumping beats, that's your opinion.
All I'm asking is what makes it any more "artistic" than any other music? Or any other hip hop song? If you can't explain that at least a little you are simply placing a label on something.
Finally! New Dr. Dre Song Feat. Akon and Snoop Dogg. Listen Here!not needed.. and its not slim da mobster
He’s Back! Dr. Dre leaks his first single for the long waited album “Detox” maybe finally under way. The song “Kush” features Akon and Snoop Dogg with the help of Slim The Mobster which is mistaken by the classic hip hop artist Nate Dogg. Reports from DubCnn.com says that the video is being shot as well. You may listen and download this song at www.dubcnn.com

to avoid going back and forth continuously on something so subjective, you're right, i am simply placing a label on something. if i thought you were actually interested in other people's viewpoints and opinions instead of trying to 'argue them down' all day it might be worth a real response.

After waiting for Detox for almost 10 years, I'm not expecting a classic. I just want a good album.8)
the mastered version is even better
Anybody doubting, complaining, etc. NEEDS to listen to the interview! Dre pretty much says the West/Hip Hop in general is on his back and it's time to bring it back.
Oh and the OFFICIAL VERSION is out:
http://radiobigboy.com/?p=19291
Don't know if it'll get officially released to everyone, but it's official, Aftermath gave it to them.
So ya, it's official ladies and gentlemen, Dre's 1st single in 9 years! BTW, the final version sounds like much more is going on with more effects, mixed better, and just overall sounds better to me.
not sure if this the final version or if someone just boosted the volume but here you guys go:

LMFAO!!FUCK akon
Hold up, wait a minute, why did u waste your 2000th post on such a statement.... :)
In the story, Dr. Dre also reveals that Detox might be the last time fans will hear him rap. “I don’t ever see myself retiring totally from music, because I have a genuine love and passion for it,” he said. “But as far as me going into the mic booth, that shit is over. I’m always going to talent scout and try to find new artists to work with. But, yeah, that’s it. I don’t see myself doing it the way I’m doing it now. I’m in the studio at least five or six days a week for 16, 18 hours. I think I’m going to back off a little bit and spend some time with the family.”
With 27 years in the industry, Dre has experienced one of most successful runs in the game, but the mysterious legend is conflicted about his own legacy. “I have mixed emotions about it,” he said. “I think it’s incredible what I’ve done. A lot of sweat. But as an innovator, I look back and can’t help but go, Damn, there’s things I could’ve done better, you know?”
Looks like the Interscope PR machine is kicking in, with the XXL interview and cover on the same day as the single.
Points from the radio interview:
- Dre's a few songs away from completing the album and was going in with Snoop today to talk about a few ideas. Said he needed more Snoop.
- Kush is the only track on that subject on Detox. Leaked earlier than expected and talked about finishing it off and putting it out properly (might mean the video?)
- A lot of people from his first two albums are featured heavily, no specifics. Said it wasn't possible to work with Nate on this, but hoped he could before the album was done.
- Detox hoping to be done by end of next month. Then he needs 30 days to mix it.
- Six videos.
- Working with Kendrick Lamar, Slim Da Mobster
eh, so is this official?yep
Somebody update the thread title/first post with this link:

It's the FINAL/OFFICIAL Aftermath version, albeit a clean radio rip. The real deal should be out soon though, if they are gonna push it. So I take it they are going for a Crack A Bottle type release here?

Clean version
keep this in this thread homie, we dont want million Kush topics in the section, u feel me.

Yea fair enough... I guess when it gets to page 27 the single will be hard to find in the rubble ???
And yall keep acting like Dre is making this the first real single for Detox. It leaked early, it got a good reaction, so they're gonna push it. It's a street/promo single that will likely end up on the album (Dre says it will).

yup. i wish dre would just finish an actual track and put it out 100% complete though. all these unfinished leaks are kinda annoying and he took the time to state several times that this is not reflective of the album's sound or content. if that's really the case perhaps it shouldn't even be on there.
Got the official single + instrumental over here -

wow the hype over this song is rediculous. the song isn't even that great
Is it true that the EU has declared November 16, 2010 a multi-national holiday because of this recent Detox development?

I must admit, while this song is still awesome, that hook is just made for nate dogg.... tragic
That instrumental is nuts!
Why do I see so many people saying this is a Khalil beat? Where's your sources?

Sly was also on that American Dreams reference track Game worked on for Diddy.
ok...some bad new...
yesterday this track was fire....today its shitty. I had it on repeat yesterday, but today i cant get past the Akon hook. Think Akon needs to be replaced, just my opinion. no hate
So wait . . when was this confirmed as being produced by Khalil or is everyone just assuming? I would assume, since it IS Dre and it's HIS album, he wants everything done by himself, minus 1 or 2 tracks. Of course the co-production is probably huge, but I think in the end it's all going to be "Produced By Dr. Dre". And that snippet featuring Em sounds like it's on that Recovery shit, something I definately don't wanna hear from Dre. And Alex Da Kid as a producer on Detox? Don't know what the fuck to say about that.

I read on another site, from a guy who talked to Bishop a while back, that Dre has a lot of Nate hooks/verses finished and unfinished. And you can tell by the interview today that he probably wants to get Nate on there somehow. He said something like "hopefully we can work something out" for Nate. Damn, that would really be IT for me if Dre can get Nate on there. He deserves it more than any of these fools.i think Dre meant that he hopes Nate will be able to record new input soon
You need facebook to listen but I think they just put the official mixed version on http://www.drdre.com 8)

Now that it has leaked you can add Kush to the list of Dj Khalil CV.
DJ Khalil on the beatmaking,
Danny Keyz on the keyboards
Dre on the production/upcoming mix.

I don't think so, that would be too far from realism. Last thing I heard Nate still can't even speak fluently. But I really hope Dre uses some of Nate's old material.

well vocal tone & sound (cadence) can make all the difference in the world to me ;D when it comes to certain tracks... why can't people like you enjoy the differences & indifference's that people have in their entitled opinions? ???
no wait that wouldn't be good enough, instead people like you'd always rather have something useless & or annoying to add to the conversation. ::)
this is a great, yet sadly average D.R.E. track, it's good enough for it to NOT be immediately hated on anyway... for now. but we'll have to wait & see what further advanced 'Detox' promotions will yield. :)

Stop hating man! This instrumental is doper than 99.99% of the rap shit that has come out in the past few years. If he added anything else to it it would just get convoluted. Its fuckin busy! Complete opposite from boring or repetitive :o

Dre Retiring From The Mic??
West Coast legend Dr. Dre has announced his intention to hang up the microphone for good after the release of his highly-anticipated solo album, Detox.
Although Dre vows his rapping days are numbered, the Doc said he will always be involved with the music industry.
"I don't ever see myself retiring totally from music, because I have a genuine love and passion for it," he said. "But as far as me going into the mic booth, that sh*t is over. I'm always going to talent scout and try to find new artists to work with. But, yeah, that's it. I don't see myself doing it the way I'm doing it now. I'm in the studio at least five or six days a week for 16, 18 hours. I think I'm going to back off a little bit and spend some time with the family." (XXL Mag)

^^ Book Of David fits the bill too. So as the full instrumental is out how long until somebody makes a remix with pure Nate Dogg hook/bridge parts, no Akon or Sly ;Dnothin against Sly.. tho he got a short input in the song.. but good one
well after bumping this a whole load the beat is definitely the strongest part of the track. the only appealing part of the vocals is snoop's verse and the nate impression. can do without the autotune, can definitely do without wail-kon and most disappointingly, dre's verse is poor - vocals, lyrics and the silly 1, 1, 1 effect. i have to question what dre was thinking with his own verse on here, too many yes men?

GOOD. Whatever you think of DRE as a producer, I never thought he was the shit on the mic.
Lyrically no he isn't. But I enjoy his presence and vocals on the mic.

I can kinda agree with you on the Chronic and even 2001 but not on this track and he is certainly not a top ten cat for me anyways. Do you or anyone else know if Dre ever wrote any of his raps?
dope and def. on some detox shit imo
DAMN NIGGAS! That mastered version BASS... SICKKKKKKKK
I can't BUMP IT !!! CAUSE NIGGAS IN MY HOUSE BE CALLING THE COPS WOA
well after bumping this a whole load the beat is definitely the strongest part of the track. the only appealing part of the vocals is snoop's verse and the nate impression. can do without the autotune, can definitely do without wail-kon and most disappointingly, dre's verse is poor - vocals, lyrics and the silly 1, 1, 1 effect. i have to question what dre was thinking with his own verse on here, too many yes men?

Dude ur from Germany. Why do you use "NIGGA" all the time ?

idk, I love his verse. His new delivery is so much tighter than his old lazy raps. I actually enjoy hearin Dre now
During an interview with Big Boy of Power 106, Dre said the song was also an unauthorized leak, but it will be a keeper nonetheless.
“It got leaked, and it was a version of it that I wasn’t really happy about,” Dre explained. “But we’re gonna go ahead and push it and put it out, since everybody seems to like it."
but a video shoot for the same track had already been scheduled this week? so where is the version that dre IS happy about? sounds like bullshit to me, dude needs to stop making excuses for things.
So who are exactly on this track and in what order?
Kobe Kokilla, Dr. Dre, Akon, Sly, Snoop
DAMN NIGGAS! That mastered version BASS... SICKKKKKKKKyep u a potato...your white ass know what im talking about to...chill with that nigga shit...fucking Germans...but the women are freaky ass fuck.

Is it time for a Detox sub-forum?good idea ;D

This is why Akon's annoying ass voice is all over the chorus to try and win these kind of people over, and lets face it these are the people that will buy it off iTunes rather than a rapidshare link. Still, songs dope and Dre's promised the albums going to be harder, so bring on Detox 8)
He needs to attract that young money fanbase, so I understand the lil Wayne styled verse and the Akon hook, and I give credit to Dre because he hasn't really compromised his sound that much that alienates us his die hard fans. It sounds like some new shit, but still has that vintage sound.imo he did.

lol why do you think this?
Joint has snoop on it, a nate dogg replica sound allike, a hook singer in akon (he likes them hook singers) and a vintage type of dre beat...with piano and hard hittin drums...dre always has targetted the mainstream with his music...it is a song about weed...something dres last two albums were named after...u feel alienated? lmao, i don't get it...what did you want a song about? Hating everyone, being mad? slow? hating on pop culture? something dre has always been a part of...even though im sure we'll get some of that on the album... it's as steriotyped a dre song as you could probably get and its dope too...something dre is known to do
Joints dope imo, akon does his thang, snoop kills it, dre sounds like dre, joints lively...why u feeling alienated? lol
LOL 7 pages already, i thought some of you didn't care about Detox anymore?
anyway, i think this is better than Under pressure, but it sounds like a 'hey let's make a single that sounds like the other songs on the radio' song.
also, the Nate imitation is lame & disrespectful, i guess Dre doesn't care about Nate.
i won't attack Dre on the subject matter, although i can't help but bring up the irony of the song title. Is it me or did Dre really listen to what his fans were saying, Scrapped the Jay Z single and not only put Snoop but Nate Dogg with his signature westcoast sound + kept it somewhat radio friendly with the addition of Akon. BTW has anyone heard this on some Beats! 8) You hear all kinds of elements!i'd say it doesn't sound like Dre's signature 'westcoast' sound.
anyway, i know opinions differ, but i find the praise for this a little weird, when looking at some of the complaints about Dre's other 'recent' work. not saying that you were complaining though.FINALLY a new Dre track to bump in my Beats headphonesRain, Change gonna come, So bad?It isnt much of a dance record like people anticipated. I think this is Vintage dre, and this is what people wanted to hear, im happy with it, I know people will still hate tho!it's not what i want to hear.
i prefer something that sounds closer to the stuff that Dre has done for other artists in the last few years.
Dre can do much betterthis SHIT IS DOPE!the piano part is alright, but Dre has much better instrumentals wich piano in it, wouldn't you agree?
that piano is fucking insane.. sounds like kobe in the first part of the track, and that's definately nate dogg later on in the track..
can't wait to hear it minus the tags masteredI'm loving this joint, with it was Nate Dogg on the hook though, but Akon did his thingwtf? i wonder if your comment would be different if Jay-Z was featured in stead of Snoop
Snoop killed itnothing, i just find it a little weird.oooh man, i'm excited for Detox again :D:eh:
this song is really cool. shame i've got shitty earphones though, need to burn it onto cd to appreciate it even more 8)
what exactly is difficult to understand about that? ???
i respect your taste thoughAkon? Kobe? Auto-Tune?lol, well put.
Hopefully it's just a dud amongst an album full of bangers.yeah and more sounding like 'Dre' ;)anyway, i think this is better than Under pressure, but it sounds like a 'hey let's make a single that sounds like the other songs on the radio' song.
i'd say it doesn't sound like Dre's signature 'westcoast' sound.

Stuff like Flashy and Topless were better to me - harder and more HipHop
by the way, beat sounds similar to Touch it by Busta Rhymesso its the beat from the lebron beats ad! i think i preferred it in instrumental form (you could hear it real clearly if you listened closely in the ad). not a fan of akon on here...the song sounds a little messy vocal wise and empty with the beat (unfinished/unmixed?) but still very bumpable cause of the head cracking clap sounds and epic piano.hypeman Matty strikes again
dre's verse is also not memorable and extremely short. now don't get upset detox fanboys (i'm supposed to be one of the biggest right?), just giving some serious opinion on this. also, what's with the version that's almost 4 minutes long and instrumental stuff going on at the end. anyway, i'm calling unfinished/unmixed cause as it is this a serious step down for a dre single. as a buzz track, more acceptable.no. i know that Dre makes mainstream music & i think he's quite good at it, but this single sounds less like Dre, even though he produced it.Shit is defintately hot and should blow the fuck up . . that being said, I don't think this is on that Still DRE/GThang/etc. level when it comes to smashing the game.
Do you really expect a non-pop track? Most of dre's songs are targeted at radioplay. Lets get High, Next Episode, Bad Intentions etc.
same counts for Under pressure & Turn me onThat's why I'm not disappointed in this song. People tend to overrate 2001 without going back and listening to the actual songs and the quality of the lyrics. Obviously this isn't on the level of a Still Dre or Forgot About Dre, but after listening to it a few times I think its better than several 2001 cuts.well it's no secret that a lot of people on here like 2001.true.no. i know that Dre makes mainstream music & i think he's quite good at it, but this single sounds less like Dre, even though he produced it.Shit is defintately hot and should blow the fuck up . . that being said, I don't think this is on that Still DRE/GThang/etc. level when it comes to smashing the game. You shouldn't be expecting something sounding like his previous work, considering he has a habit of moving on to different sounds. N.W.A didn't sound like the Chronic, the Chronic didn't sound like 2001, etc.
i know he switches up from time to time, but somehow there's something different going on.
it's like he forgot his own formula. i'm not saying he shouldn't experiment, but don't forget your own identity.
Just saw this one on my facebox wall. Possibly from the video shoot? Or maybe Dre just dresses like this everyday? lol

instrumental @ 320kbps is in this thread somewhere.
and i didn't buy it, don't buy digital music unless it's not available physically. and when it comes to singles i'd generally just buy the album unless i badly want the instrumental/remixes or something in lossless.
Universal is spamming me about it lol

If this launches Detox do you think Slim The Mobster and Earl Hayes will be releasing albums via Aftermath or will they end up like the majority of the roster, no album debut?hayes and slim will probably end up like the others.
Dr.Dre's confidence seems horrible which is really funny to me.
I'm really interested in seeing what happens next. I liked watching the Aftermath wave in early 2000. Eminem was succesful and then he made the power play move by signing 50 Cent and that took everyone to another level which allowed the successful debuts of Lloyd Banks, Young Buck, Tony Yayo, and The Game. Not to mention Obie Trice & D12. It died once G-Unit self-destructed on beefs and poor management; Eminem got addicted; and Dr.Dre never capitalized on the top of their success by releasing Detox.
Now he's trying to jump start it again. I really hope the next wave will allowed Slaughterhouse to shine. So much success could be achieved for them. I'd even like to hear more Earl Hayes music. Not to mention the New Royales and Sly.

^^^ Maybe. Snoops cousin. They are grown men. Should have put a silly argument away from 10+ years ago
I know I read this earlier but the more I think about it the more I think the "leak" thing is bullshit.
How can you leak something and then plan a full-on big production music video two days later.... actually even before!!!
I remember that Joseph Khan guy said he was doing the video before the song even leaked. Dre was bullshittin on Big Boys show I think... they just create some hype and the whole "leak" aura adds t it.
Also if it leaked unfinished they did a pretty damn fast job of mastering it and getting it on Itunes within a day or two.
::)
^^^ Maybe. Snoops cousin. They are grown men. Should have put a silly argument away from 10+ years agothere's no argument anymore.
blackballed? he could be featured in an upcoming video.Warren G was mad on his twitter! And i feel him!
"How come everybody at Dre and snoop video and none of these ni.,,..,,s hit me I feel that's f......k up?"
Seven minutes later:
"I guess the Westcoast really is fucked up"
Looks like Warren is getting black balled
shame
Damn shame, Warren is dudes brother...
I thought the other dude singing (not Akon) was Sly? Now its Kobe??
E-40 and Dre were hanging at the video shoot. Saw a video of it ....Yup. 40 was there and Roccett. I guess 50 Cent got lost and asked a bunch of Crips for directions, not knowing it was Roccett and them.
Officer Ricky bout to drop Roccett off Maybach Music Ent as fast as he signed him cause of giving props to 50 Cent tho :DWait! Roccett is on Rick Ross' label?!?
For real with Slaughterhouse on the roster Aftermath could make some amazing shit!
Hopefully when Dre sees the response Detox gets it'll give him that confidence boost to just drop some crazy shit. He should just give Slimm Tha mobster a bunch of detox throaways and let him re do them for the album. Chuck a Slimm verse on Topless, wouldn't be madWhy would he need to give him old records? If Detox goes right, Dre can get in the lane creatively to make great new music for all these artists. I mean, it's not like he will need to save his best shit for his project then. Slim is co-signed to Aftermath, G-Unit, and Shady (first artist to have that) so if he gets the right buzz, no reason why he shouldn't be big.
Played the song in the club last night, it got good response! People were feeling it.

It was an intentional leak.Nar. :D
It was an intentional leak.Nar. :D
Video was planned so the song has been sent and someone stole it.It was an intentional leak.Nar. :D
So how come the video shoot was already sheduled ? As, it has been pointed before, there's something fishy in their story.

You guys got it ALL wrong. Let me explain something to you guys. read carefully.
I can confirm to you all that think that Aftermath leaked this track to test the waters that it was an unintentional leak.
The track was finished at some point this summer and they kept it under raps until they had to pass it to shoot the video for it. When you shoot a video, you have to send the track to the label, to the director etc. On other words, you have to let it out. And people (for example, http://twitter.com/JosephKahn/status/2636843577253888#) talked about it on twitter and facebook. They talked about "Kush" and the hackers knew what to look for. Aftermath knows exactly who hacked and sold these songs.
At first, it was supposed to premiere with the video and all the MTVs and BETs, worldwide. With some teasers and shit.
Also, earlier someone hacked Chin Injeti's twitter account (Khalil's musician and co producer) and guess what? Topless and This Is Detox leaked a week later...
Some of y'all, including many websites understood that this song was not intended for detox. That's not the case. This track was and is and always was the planned street single. When Dre called it a leak, it wasnt because he didnt want the song out, it's because they didn't release it with the videos, the way he wanted it, and also because that particular unmixed version that was sent out for video shooting purposes only was not what the fans were supposed to hear (Unmixed, as well as the ''Let me put some BEATS up in it part.'')
I know some people love to think Aftermath/Interscope love to set up some conspiracies but it's not the case.
These leaks were not Intentional.
actually.. the original record was created for a commercial.. I won't go farther than this. :-XNot for this one.
"Missile-Testing" still very much exists in this industry, it's funny to hear someone say something "leaked" these days.
Label execs were upset with Kanye because he kinda spilled the beans on the process back when he first "leaked" 'Love Lockdown.'
With millions on the line, (everything) is planned.. Ask Iovine, and he will likely tell you this staight up..
but that wouldn't be interesting to you fans who crave conspiracy theories, right? ;D
Sidenote: I thought it was madd-cool that everybody was chillin in the heart of downtown South Central with no funk.
Also, if you don't care for this particular record as the first single, don't feel bad..
I didn't think "Still DRE" was that groundbreaking at 1st either.. and look how that project turned out.. 8)
actually.. the original record was created for a commercial.. I won't go farther than this. :-X
to add to that..I'm not saying that. You weren't especially included into "you conspiracies believers".
i've actually been in the studio with Dre and Scodie in the last 6 months,
i've seen a lot.. heard a lot.. but i'm not youraudiofix or a gossip column..
so... yea.
nah, I know.. all of my statements are general.I agree on that.
most folx think they know..
but don't even know the principle folx involved in the story they are sharing.
In this industry, some things you will only know (IF) they want you to.

It's hard to accept a record once you build this image in your head about how it will soundBesides, people have strong memories attached to songs like Still DRE and it makes it harder for them to listen to these new tracks without their ridiculously high expectations. Some of them are disappointed because they "wanted it to sound like" something specific. They didn't even try to listen to it. Some of them want the Jay's and wayne's, some of them want typical west coast features. Some of them want the G-Funk Dre and some others say fuck that, I want something new and fresh. It can't and won't please everybody.
and then it ends up sounding nothing like you expected..
I was goin around sayin "Maybe I Don't Wanna Stop, Maybe I Don't Wanna Quit" for weeks
after they recorded vocals on that song "UP"
..many months later it "leaked" and sounded NOTHING like what I heard.
i have (reason) to believe that yall killed that record's chances at becoming a single :-X
that may be a good or bad thing for you.. depending on how u felt about the song. lol

I seem to remember the same exact thing happening in the period between "The Chronic" and "2001."Some of them have short term memories. :D
I pray he has another "Forgot About Dre" for all yall who feel this project is an obligation and not a choice.;)

This is one of the reasons why I'm superior to 99% of all people.
See, I gave this another chance after I got sick of it. I even gave this a chance even though I got so sick and tired of Akon at one point that this is the first new song in like a year or so that I listen to with an Akon hook.
That last sentence doesn't sound right, but you know what I mean.

Well, if that's the case, that means Kush is and always was intended to be used as the official first single off Detox. And that's disheartening to know that they think this song is "first single off Detox" quality. I'm trying to give them the benefit of the doubt that Kush is being slapped onto the album like Crack a Bottle, but because you're saying it was always intended as the first single, it gets me reeeally worried that Detox is going to be a major letdown. IMO, Kush is not near the quality worth being the "first single off Detox." But since they think it is, it has me majorly concerned about the album as a whole.
It's hard to accept a record once you build this image in your head about how it will soundgood for me.

i'll tell u whut it really iz.... white people runnin' they mouth again. i'm not sayin' becuz it's Dr. Dre niggaz are just gonna automatically accept anything that this nigga do but honestly, who's the most critical when it comes to shit like this and who's the most hypocritical and conflicted about shit like this (.... sorry i'm REALLLY NOT trying to play the race card but there's really no other explaination 4 it that i can see, somebody show me i'm wrong and if it's logically right i'll agree), even if u don't like ANY of these records that came out u can't deny that they aren't nearly as bad as people (on the internet) make it out to be just being Frank about the whole situation.
It's too bad too. I think the beats he did on Obie Trices debut were innovative and a natural progression from 2001. But it's like that album didn't do crazy numbers so he ditched that sound. Outta control rmx was the last Dre beat I was really feelin, and that's like 5 years ago.
Oh well, Dre is a rich dude and honestly I hope interscope loses hella money on this project. The quicker the major labels die the better.
Peace

 and agreed. i was checkin' Dawaun Parker's ustream show yesterday and the beats he was playing were completely next level. not that this track hasn't got a pretty banging beat, just the direction of the joint is cliche and kinda sloppy. a big dent in dre's usual standards, imo.

Word, when Still DRE came out it was hated on for a few reasons (which is funny that kids today think it's this iron-clad classic that was hailed as the second coming right from the get-go, because it wasn't)
Things I remember people saying about Still DRE at the time -
-Beat was too simple and sparse compared to older Dre beats which had more percussion, more live instruments throughout the track
-It had a too "synthy" feel, where most of the main instruments were all on synths, instead of live sounding bass guitar, rhythm guitar, flute, etc like before
-The main melody was just two piano notes over and over... people also said it sounded like a RZA kinda beat at the time (not the mixing, but the tunes)
-People dissed the video because it was Hype Williams and he was doing every single rap video then, so it just looked like another rap video, the way it was shot
-Dre went back to talking about guns, cars, bitches, right after he had been saying he had Been There, Done That
It did turn out to be one of the best tracks on the album, but people WERE disappointed with it when it first dropped, because it didn't really bring anything new to the table.
I prefer Still DRE to Kush, but I would not be surprised at all if in 10 years kids are like "oh man, I hope this new song is as good as 'Kush', because that shit was classic"
i prefer Lost over KushIt's too bad too. I think the beats he did on Obie Trices debut were innovative and a natural progression from 2001. i dunno, the first time i heard still dre it slapped me in the face and i fell in love with it right away.
yeah well, i feel better when i hear a track like that from Dre instead of somebody else.. that only shows that nobody (i know its not just me, dont even argue) is objective
Average track to me, the production on Cheers was way better than this, if this wasn't Dre, most of you would call this average to I reckon but instead you attach more value to it just because it's Dre.
i dunno, the first time i heard still dre it slapped me in the face and i fell in love with it right away.I feel same, btw "Still D.R.E." was the 1st song who introduced me strictly to Hip-Hop, like a slap in my face.
Talking about what you want an artist to create musically is one of the lamest and most futile things you can do. When I listen to music, I want to hear something that is obviously a snapshot of the creative mind state of an artist. Think about all of the most classic hip hop albums. It's easy to tell that a vast majority of these albums were created with very little regard for what "fans" wanted to hear. Also, if someone wants to make pop-oriented music, that doesn't mean that it's necessarily being forced just to please people. If pop music is what sounds and feels good to an artist, and he/she genuinely wants to create that music, it will be evident in the final product. It works in the opposite way, also. An "underground" or "dark" album made just for the sake of moving in a direction that people want you to move will sound contrived.
What I fear is that Dre is succumbing the pressure of making music to please an external group of people. The best of his most recent work was material not created to be a single or fit in with the current sound. That's why I like the music on Relapse so much - it feels like Dre and his team were just creating music that they enjoyed without really thinking about what the reaction to it would be. Same can be said of Eminem between Relapse and Recovery. The latter definitely gave off the vibe that he was trying to cater to the wants of fans and critics.
Detox will suffer if Dre tries to listen to either crowds wanting trendier music or crowds wanting traditional westcoast hip hop.

I don't see the comparison between Kush and "every other song on the radio", can someone show me a beat on the radio that sounds like Kush?

Why people hating? What did you actually expect? This song is fresh, lots of variety, well thought out. Best rap single I've heard in years. BANGINNNNN

Becuz it's a good song that Dr. Dre made in 2010 that's why (if ur going to be technical). It's not even really all of that serious on tha critiquing, the song iz whut it iz, something to crank up.
look for same soundin song, ull get the pointi stilll like to know why this song is fresh. Why people hating? What did you actually expect? This song is fresh, lots of variety, well thought out. Best rap single I've heard in years. BANGINNNNN
The only thing I think that's fresh about the track is the mixing - Dre keeps on advancing with making everything bigger and crisper and clearer,
and I think if anything saves the track for me it's the way that the song just jumps out at you in the mixing
But everything else about it isn't fresh -
-He's been using piano melodies for ages now
-The claps are roughly the same
-An Akon chorus - that's the opposite of fresh, everyone has an Akon chorus, didn't Crooked I have an Akon chorus at one stage
-Sort of autotune sounding on that beginning bit - that shit is everywhere
-More upbeat, dance tempo - everything on the radio is at that tempo nowadays
-Doing a Nate Dogg impersonation... it's dope, but it's hardly fresh sounding
-Neither of the verses are really anything in particular, they're sort of just generic verses, so it's definitely not fresh lyrically
-Talking about smoking weed, which has been done for the last 20 years

true but everything u just mentioned as to why it isn't fresh is tha same reason why people love it. i mean i agree with u but u just took apart tha whole song, broke it down part 4 part, and said u didn't like it (pretty much). like it's a song son, not a movie or a piece of food. Whut u just did is whut people call being OVER CRITICAL/OVER REACTING. i mean tha way u just made it look is like you're trying to dunish it before it even jumps off (like u have a plan 2 sabotage it or somethin lol). i ain't carryin' u but c'mon son, all that tho, you're basically saying that u dont like music period (let alone this song).
Word, I mean a lot of people did like it right away, it's just that lot of long-time Dre fans had complaints with the song... I think people forget or don't know that

Well, I was one of those guys, for a lot of the reasons you listed. To this day, I feel Big Egos is 10x the song that Still DRE is. DOC on the lyrics > Jay. More developed piano-based chord progression. More substance behind the song, too, at least on Dre's verse. Plus, Hittmann did his thing on that song, dissing Mr. Hush Puppy

I respect your opinion, but in my opinion, it's not even the best single I heard this past week, which was that new Quincy Jones & Snoop one.
Yea I find people are looking waaayy to deep into this song. It is a fun, head-nodding, club banger. Nothing else.
Yea I find people are looking waaayy to deep into this song. It is a fun, head-nodding, club banger. Nothing else.
I feel that's a cop out. It's like you're admitting the song isn't substantive, so you're telling people not to analyze it, because the song doesn't hold up to scrutiny. Think about that, and what you're admitting.
If something is classic, not only is it viscerally pleasurable (for lack of a better term, haha), but it also stands up to intellectual analysis. Kush doesn't. I mean, when you listen to the instrumental, do you think to yourself, "This would be a perfect instrumental for a song about smoking!" NO, you don't. This song has a disconnect between what I call form and content. In other words, the content of the song (i.e. the substantive message of the song conveyed via the vocals) does not fit the form of the song (i.e. the musical aspects).
If that's going too deep in analyzing this song, then ok. But by saying that, you're basically saying to me that this song can't hold up to scrutiny, which to me makes it IMPOSSIBLE to be a classic. Classic music/movies/art do hold up to intellectual analysis and scrutiny.
Not that you're saying this is anywhere near classic. I'm just making a larger point.
^^ werd. a lot of the posts that are praising this track are already on a semi-defensive vibe. if this was really up to standard there would people going nuts and breaking down how well it works or whatever. i'll be the first to admit if this track becomes highly respected over time, compared to other dre or dre-produced singles. i might even grow to really appreciate it a lot more too, but i doubt it.
it aint bad its just average-good, the vocals being the weaker part.

Completely ludicrous. Almost none of Dre's music has substance as far as "intellectual analysis". He makes the opposite of intellectual music. So obviously that's not what makes something classic.

i understand why you like it, but i still don't get the fresh point.i stilll like to know why this song is fresh. Why people hating? What did you actually expect? This song is fresh, lots of variety, well thought out. Best rap single I've heard in years. BANGINNNNN
the best thing about thsi song is the sound, kinda weird to have akon on this not because of his voice but because he said himself that he doesnt smoke...but yeah the sound of it is great the instruments on there the way the song is done! good job
there are so many club songs out there.look for same soundin song, ull get the pointi stilll like to know why this song is fresh. Why people hating? What did you actually expect? This song is fresh, lots of variety, well thought out. Best rap single I've heard in years. BANGINNNNN
The only thing I think that's fresh about the track is the mixing - Dre keeps on advancing with making everything bigger and crisper and clearer, yeah, i don't see how anyone could come with strong arguments for why this is fresh
and I think if anything saves the track for me it's the way that the song just jumps out at you in the mixing
-Talking about smoking weed, which has been done for the last 20 years
btw, i wonder if Roscoe will actually be featured on Detox ???

Becuz it's a good song that Dr. Dre made in 2010 that's why (if ur going to be technical). It's not even really all of that serious on tha critiquing, the song iz whut it iz, something to crank up.
Yea I find people are looking waaayy to deep into this song. It is a fun, head-nodding, club banger. Nothing else. It is so obvious too, I mean the song is called Kush!
The point of the song -imo- is to just make you feel good and wanna blast it and enjoy the sound. Nothing to reflect on or over-analyze. Same with Next Episode. I definitely see this as a fitting sequel to that song minus all the hating on Akon. I actually like Akon's sound, and have been listening to him since Lock'd up with Styles P.
25 pages already, lol - only on Dubcc :D
Look at your name, it's completely disproved.
I highly doubt that "Detox" was the thing that promoted The Documentary or Encore. "Detox" was only mentioned once in single songs on them, people had no idea bout it untill they bought the album, so i dont think "Detox" had anything to do with the promotion then, unless i dont know somethin.Look at your name, it's completely disproved.
I told everyone I would keep this screen name if Detox finally comes out. I'm not scared  The fact is they used the specter of Detox to help promo The Documentary and Encore and the headphones and so forth. They new Detox was not coming out back then, but they kept pumping it up, regardless.
did anyone notice that this song 'leaked' exactly 11 years after 2001 was released?
did anyone notice that this song 'leaked' exactly 11 years after 2001 was released?lets check didnt nostradamus write about it
I think all the 'leaks' out there are recompressed m4a (itunes format) files.
If you can play m4a google for that or you'll need to buy Kush of itunes. ;)
can we expect the good Doctor at the American Music Awards? that would be niice!

of course
oh fo sho' ! lol, this gonna be on some epic shit
the first 12 seconds of the instrumental would fit perfectly on daft punk's master piece "homework". For real, check itYea that synth is on some Daft Punk, great call.
Fans don't kill records. Either we feeling it or not. If the artist doesn't have the balls to put out a record due to fear of response then he should just lay down the mic. Slaughterhouse was right about the west coast. Move on.True..and now everybodys happy cause one brotha brings out something half ass..what the west gonna do when this detox thing is over..hiphop still moves on...he needs MELMAN BACK FORREAL.
I'm NOT putting down anybody's opinion. Again, as I wrote in my first post in this thread, if you like this song, then that's great. I'm happy for you. However, there are now people saying that other people like me are overanalyzing the song because it's just a head-nodder for the clubs, etc. And in response to that, I'm just explaining why that's a cop out. Everything is open to analysis, and if you're telling me not to analyze something, that tells me something right there.Thank u..some one with a brain.
And lol at Dre never making music that holds up to analysis. LMAO, in fact. The Roach on The Chronic was a perfect unison of form and content for a smoking weed song. The music was tailor made for a song about smoking a fat one. 8) And, lo and behold, that's what the lyrics were about, too.
I knew it sounded like something i freak a bitch to befor...thats it! touch it!!sorry dre u lost on this homie...aint nothing fresh to this song, cause its already been done..plus it dont fit the title..KUSH.i understand why you like it, but i still don't get the fresh point.i stilll like to know why this song is fresh. Why people hating? A little update here. The track has been on the iTunes charts for 6 days, and has once again made it to the #13 spot, and #2 in the hip-hop category. It was also just released to the radio for airplay, so lets see how that goes.
That "mind blowing mutha fucking change the game forever" track IS NOT GOING TO DROP
just be happy we get a Dre album with 13 dope tracks
oh well, what do you care? its his problem that he wont take any pleasure from listening to great music, becouse of all the hate he got inside.. his lost, i dont mind, i suggest you to not too, make the world more beautifull ;)That "mind blowing mutha fucking change the game forever" track IS NOT GOING TO DROP

Lol, why you gotta always hate? I see nuthin but hate for Detox from you. I think if this album is dope as hell, goes quadruple platinum, gets 5/5 reviews, your still gonna hate. In your mind it has already failed. Dope tracks is as good as its gonna get from you right?
Your like that guy from the Jermaine Dupri song Hate in My Blood. Evil Star or some shit like that.

Detox Iz Not Active Isnt hating homie. He's making a valid point. Every single one of us anticipating this album(* myself included) had imagined the DETOX to be something that will be the craziest shit we ever saw. Truth is, this is an album is gonna be good, but it probably wont live up to our personal expectations we had fantasized about. But it will be a dope album nonetheless. Full of bumpable tracks.
True that, i dont think an album EVER could live up to 8-10 years of hype. Dre has no-one to blame but himself.
remember your react when you first listened "nuthing but a g thang" or "still d.r.e" ... i still remember how i excited and i still feel the same when i listen again those songs after thousand times listenings. who will remember this "kush" shit 3 years later?
it is really ok if u say "this song is a good song to listen"
but u have to add "this shit can't be the first single that we gonna hear after 11 years"
if you say "this is amaaaazing, this is greaaaat, d.r.e is baaack, detox baaaby!!!" i have only 2 words to say to you
FUCK YOU!

In 2010, we hear music firstly in shitty tagged quality, then untagged, then CDQ, then we might get a video a few weeks down the line.
I first heard Still DRE when I saw the video and I think that's what blew everyone away. It got overplayed and I skip the track on 2001 now, but the initial impact was huge. I can't see the same impact with Kush.

Still dre was weak on the charts, thats prove nothing.
maybe it didn't do that well on the charts, but a lot of people have heard the single and/or saw the videoStill dre was weak on the charts, thats prove nothing.
This. I don't know why people are portraying it as some massive single when it wasn't.
Still Dre had wack lyrics, very over-rated track!

How do u people live? With so many of pesimistic thought, im surprised that half of that forum havent commited suicides yet
Video + Interscope promo = potential HIT until the next single 8)
I wonder who'll be on the next single?
If the album is coming out in February ::) the next single will have to be big for the hype, so I reckon Interscope would go for a Eminem or Jay-Z feature. (Not saying that's what I want)
Shit, it might even be feat. Drake with Lady Gaga dropping a hot 16 plus the hook...
They play this on the radio here in New Zealand......... Detox is coming!the censored version right?
i have no doubt honestly, that RADIO programmers can boost a song all the way up to the #1 in the top 8 at 9pm now at all.
this song isn't radio friendly to all the jerky tight ass pants wearing people here in LA, where techno dominates and for it to just jump to #1 shows me the darker side of the world of RADIO.
The Machine can be bought, and indeed programmed, itself.

I mean, wasn't it? The Chronic album was shit, the only song that I kind of halfway liked was the intro and no one even rapped on that beat. :P
Seriously though, it's hard to compare singles from an artist's albums, especially when they are years apart.
After an unmastered version of the collaboration with Snoop Dogg, Akon and newcomer Sly hit blogs and other music sites, Aftermath quickly posted a mixed and mastered version to Dr. Dre’s official site and made the single available for purchase via iTunes on November 18. Despite being released mid-week, the single sold 45,000 copies.
KUSH is not that good for a come back single.. the only way to save it is to give it to Snoop so he can release it on his album.... or maybe this is indeed a buzz track for the fans

especially as a party track, my favourite type of track. i wouldn't be judging it on any other criteria given the subject matter. its just not all that banging, lacks groove, etc.

Wonder if the Nate vocals are new, either way NICE ADDITION, loving the track!
Song is dope , especially the instrumental. What do u ni99as want from him ? Under Pressure sucked , now this sucked . Both tracks are top notch , even tho I think Under Pressure would've been bigger had he followed thru with it . Both bangers , and his album will be the goods. He won't release it tho if u fa99ots don't stop being overly critical, ni99a .

The source is Polydor (France).
E-40 is just a member of the crowds there. He won't be in the vid . No benefit from having him in there , seeing how he sucks now. Lots of those dudes were there just to network and mingle. 40 wasn't even invited , I bet .

The beat is the best part of the track, it really knocks.
Yea I don't get the people who say this beat is not good. I think it is amazing. You gotta get the real version, like the m4a dude was talking about above. If you get anything lower you start to lose out on the low frequencies (drums and bass) which takes away from the song.
I put it on in the car full blast and those drums were crazy. Amazing club shit, I can't wait to hear it in one. Dope dope beat, how can you not like it? Sure the content is unoriginal and nothing fresh but the beat is insane.

not what I expected from Dre's comeback single. First off Akon is underwhelming on it and so is the guy imitating Nate, on the other hand Snoop flows well on this and the Will I Am line is comical. The beat is the best part of the track, it really knocks. Dre said himself not to expect these type of tracks on Detox that it got a good response from the leak and he decided to put it out anyway. I am looking forward to the tracks he has coming now that Detox seems like a reality 8)are you the same poster that left the forum a while ago?

doesn't seem very clear whatever it is and i can't make sense of it.

'better than my last batch, tell her/tear a concoction and her ass fat' ??

When u listen the part closely u can heard " caramel compexion " :bandit:
And that make sense 8)
btw anyone whose listening to a mp3 version of this is completely missing the sonics of the drums in particular. the itunes m4a sounds a LOT better.
I remember the first time I heard Still DRE like it was yesterday. It gave me goosebumps when that piano loop kicked in. This doesn't sound like a Dre single though. Maybe I've been away from hip-hop for too long so I'm not with the times, but it's not what I expected from Detox's first single. Not liking Dre's flow, I hate that Akon is even on it. Snoop sounds alright though. The beat is pretty average too.
Hopefully the rest of the album will be better.

I actually thought Still Dre was kinda average when I first heard it. Prob cause it wasn't what I was expecting. It grew on me really quick, and now it is one of my fav songs of all time.
Kush is growing on me too, but I look at it as more of a buzz track. I'm pretty sure the next single is going to be a little more along the lines of what we (people on this forum) are expecting.

i hope you're right but in my opinion the next single is going to be what Jimmy is expecting. Music industry have change so much since 1999. Jimmy wants money and the only way for him to get his money is to release - let's call it pop-rap album. Interscope already did it with Eminem. Why wouldn't they do the same thing with Dre? I predict Detox is going to be more of a pop than rap album.
this thread is at 30 pages... safe to say this single did what it was supposed to, whether 100% of you like it or notbut this is a west coast music forum, so that wasn't hard
Akon is not bad at all on the track, all of you are just stuck in time and wanna hear nate dogg. If he could have got nate on this he would have. Everyone is just expecting too much. Throw all your expectations and needs (what you want it to sound like) out the window and just listen to the music. Kush is a good buzz single not still dre level at all but it's some shit to bang whle we're waiting on this. 8/10 solid songthere are better singers out there than Akon, not just Nate.

sonics of drums and fx won't help this mediocre song. in fact they won;t help any song. It's the same as with the movies.
I still think this is dope a track, you people are fucking fools for expecting some revolutionary bullshit, you all bought into the Detox hype
he needs to just put out the album in February and be done with this shit, then no more talk about Dre releasing an album because we'd all know once and for all there won't be another

The stone cold truth.
I mean seriously, Dre does make a lot of dope music, but you can hardly call any of it released in the last decade, revolutionary. ... And waiting 6 months to a year longer isn't going to make it any better, nor will it stop you complainers for expecting more.
People who buy music, by the majority, are stupid people. These stupid people aren't going buy Detox, because they probably weren't even alive when the first Chronic was released.
Here's another "official " tracklist floating around ..Saw this one at Boxden ..

Perhaps a good thing?

This song is pretty good, and all you Dre-lovers need to LOWER your expectations. I mean seriously, Dre does make a lot of dope music, but you can hardly call any of it released in the last decade, revolutionary. This album should come out early 2011, or they shouldn't bother releasing it at all. The album is done, it is what it is. And waiting 6 months to a year longer isn't going to make it any better, nor will it stop you complainers for expecting more.
The album isn't going to sell a million units in a week no matter what single they release. People who buy music, by the majority, are stupid people. These stupid people aren't going buy Detox, because they probably weren't even alive when the first Chronic was released.

but i don't need revolutionary music. i just want good music.
the truth: pop music in general (including rap music) have been getting worse and worse since its beginning (i'm not talking about underground music. i'm talking about major radio-friendly music). Music industry have been lowering the standards to make more money (i won't explain how lowering the standards makes more money because it's a long long story). If you think different that means you're brainwashed person who is unable to observe or draw conclusions from your own observations. And i'm not talking about taste of music. I'm talking about the frames you have to fit in if you want your song to be played on the radio (f.e. duration).
Music industry is much different now than it was in 1999. Music industry in 1999 was different than it was in 80's. Nowadays I'm not expecting good music from ANY major artist. I stick to the underground because that's where creativity lives. Major artist have no artistic freedom recently.
Believie me...my expextations for Detox are as much low as they only can be because i can see how the music industry looks like now. I was wondering if Dre wants to fit recent pop music standards to sell as many copies as possible or if he wants to say goodbye to his true fans with this album. After hearing Kush i felt so naive... and that is the stone cold truth. (no i don't feel hurt. There is too much good music in the underground to feel hurt ;))
PS. I think Kush beat is quite good. nothing special. verses are below average (i could stand the lyrics... flow is horrible). hook is a pure pop garbage.
but it's not only the beat what makes good song

Hey bro - stick to the stuff you like and stop worrying bout the state of the world :)
There's plenty enough true artists still making good music (just don't expect nearly all of it to be on the radio/tv), and a world of back-catalogue stuff to explore :-* :-* :-*
Kush is my shit right now (or one of the tracks I enjoy bangin) it's poppy sure but it's rap I can still enjoy without sayin 'hey shame this ain't as good as xyz'. The track has a good vibe + energy, it's standout for 2010. Will be one of the tracks fans of the West remember. Just and gonna change any lives.
Peace. :)

Great post... especially about the age gap. People who listened to The Chronic in their teen years probably have moved on from gangsta rap... This is new shit for new fans.
If you were 15 in 1992 you are 33 now... shit changes in that gap. I think the album will be sick but people's expectations are too high. I have to admit Dre did create this though, especially when he mentions Detox every few years. He is great at marketing lol :o
^^^ Damn didn't know they still pressed singles like that! Interesting that sole credit for production is DJ Khalil, mixed by Dr. Dre. So if "I Need A Doctor" is on there as well thats 2 Detox tracks both not produced by Dre? Shit's kinda gay

It looks like he got those pics from from www.aftermathmusic.com and that website probably got that cd from having the website seeing that this is a promotional copy. At the bottom of pic 3 say "Promotional Use Only Not For Resale".
Hopefully these start flooding ebay so we can pick one up.
or i might just wait for someone to leak a FLAC rip on the promo.
so where is the HD-FLAC version interscope numbskulls? i thought they might at least sell a cdq lossless format for anything to do with the sound-quality-extravaganza that is the detox! a blu-ray or 96/24 FLAC version should be sold for the actual album.

Well, he said earlier this year that there will be a special surround sound edition of Detox 8). That would mean that they have to press it on either SACD, DVD-A, Blue Ray or some other format that supports multiple audio channels. Definitely will get my hands on this!!i swear he didnt say that.

:D No doubt Interscope has e-team members on DubCC. Meanwhile, I'm waiting for a new song to drop that is more to my liking :)
Interesting that Dre did not even produce this and also that Snoop didn't get any writing credit....
So I check Chocolate's (Of Chocolate and DJ Silk) twitter quite often cause dude always giving away bits and pieces of info... check this out : http://twitter.com/mistachoc
It seems to be that he is working on another , official (?), remix to Kush... ke kept talking about it on twitter for the past 2 weeks. Also, here's more proof that these dudes are really working full time on this project...
''What it do ya unc had to add u to my following list, ya cuzzin n tha booth workin on his joint 4 his short movie/video supa crazy..

So He said that he has the 2nd to last song on the album, so who knows, maybe the just need one more track and the album gon be done ! ;D
What do you think ? Matty, holla @ me !
Produced by DJ Khalil???... WTF?!?! Where's Dre?!?!?!? The best producer in hip hop is letting other producers produce his tracks now?!?!?Dre has had other people doing his beat making since he signed on Death Row. This is nothing new.
What the hell is going on with Dre these days??? He has no inspiration to produce some bangin music himself anymore???

Im hoping i can grab a copy down here in Aus. I'd pay for this single.
It seems there are gonna be A LOT of names on Detox just like there were on 2001. I mean this track alone has Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg, Akon, DJ Khalil, Danny Keyz, Sly, Slim The Mobster, Kobe & Blackthoven.
seems very possible :bomb:Here's another "official " tracklist floating around ..Saw this one at Boxden ..

just my 2 cents, I think I Need A Doctor will be the 2nd single. Not because Alex the Kid said it but I think this would be the type of single that would blow up to the masses and sell albums. This is a business and that track is like "Love the way you lie" part 2, similar to how it helped Eminem sell over 3 million so far.
btw I am not a big fan of the song. In a perfect world Detox would be an album strictly for the fans who have waited this long but we don't live in a perfect world.
beatmaking is not the same as producing.Produced by DJ Khalil???... WTF?!?! Where's Dre?!?!?!? The best producer in hip hop is letting other producers produce his tracks now?!?!?Dre has had other people doing his beat making since he signed on Death Row. This is nothing new.

Turns out Khalil was the sole producer. WTF? All this time waiting and the first single isn't even a Dre track? I don't think he's got what it takes anymore. This makes me sad for how the album might turn out...
I mean, I'd listen to an album full of Khalil beats mixed by Dre, but this is DETOX.
If you liked it before you found out khalil produced you should still like it now.

"Kush" still bangin' like a motherfucker.
"Kush" still bangin' like a motherfucker.
"Kush" still bangin' like a motherfucker.Only the remix, the og really lacks that 3rd verse.

Vito Iragorri was just taliking on KMEL radio in Northern Cali and said a few things about Detox .The DJ's were all over his ass about Dre's album , but he deflected most details . He did , however , say a few things about the potential tracklisting of Detox ...He said that the tracklisting is selected and the album is almost done as far as mixing ..The cover is neon green and black ( funny how that is opposite of the 2001 album ). Xzibit , Ice Cube , and Nas made the final cut , but many more features from the east are on there as well .So that means Jigga and Beyonce , I bet ..East Coast repped strongly on this album , GUARANTEED . He also said February was just a rumor as far as a release date goes.. VITO
whats up with the european release of this single? its shown at the beginning of this thread with the cover n all that. i have the promo cd, but the only official retail single is euro only release?? does anyone have it? and yeah, best song of 2010-11.
its ok, but mainly because of the beat."Kush" still bangin' like a motherfucker.Only the remix, the og really lacks that 3rd verse.
I liked the remix with Game's 2nd verse, but looking back overall I don't think the track had much replay value

I liked it when it first came out but haven't listened to it since earlier this year, quite surprised that its still getting good feedback
I mean nice beat but for Dre's comeback single pretty dissapointing :-\
still a weak track with a cool beat.
Still a dope song in my opinion.
