the album is out, it's Crooked's 1st solo( http://www.hiphopdx.com/index/news/id.24858/title.crooked-i-explains-whether-or-not-apex-predator-is-his-true-solo-debut- ), how do you like it????
-
Vegas On Biz, Nobody Cares, A Lady Fell In Love, and Crook N Porter are the strongst songs on the album, remember when crook said after his solo debut album he wants to give B.O.S.S as a Free Download? letīs see what happens.
-
boss already been released one song at a time aint it?
-
Vegas on Biz is a classic
-
so it took only like 15 years to finally drop his solo album - Crooked I is still that dude, but he took too long, shit just aint the same
good album tho, he should take the Curren$y route and drop like two albums per year
-
waiting for it to arrive in the mail
still don't get why he has that crackhead chick on his album cover
-
vegas on biz is a good song
-
This is cool.
-
decent album in today's sound
-
I received my album in the mail. After listening to it a few times, he could have used a better producer. My friend and I agree that the lyrics are spot on, but for a debut album it's lacking the beats. I still enjoy the album, however I'm still a fan of Mr. Pigface with the production on there.
Overall it's not something to sleep on......It's better then most albums out there right now, so grab a copy for some new Crooked I.
-
this isn't meant to be a proper solo album is it?
sounds like another EP to me, quality wise. and a lesser one a that. the direction and quality of the production is sub-par, you could make a much better full length using the best tracks from previous EPs.

the production on the pigface EP was great. this is nowhere near as enjoyable...bland, generic beats. take the best tracks from pigface and COB volume 1 and you almost got a stellar album.

wasn't big on some of the production but dude can definitely still drop bars
-
lyrics are good, but beats are terrible only 3 decents songs on here crooked i needs better producers waited over 13yrs for this garbage, he should of just put some new lyrics over his unrealesed deathrow songs
i was expecting alot more his mixtapes and eps goes harder than this album.
-
Album sounds more like his past mixtapes. I just don't get it. He got a deal with Shady but yet he chooses some weak ass beats for his "album". You don't wanna have fillers in your album.
-
Very disapointing debut, the beats are garbage. Bumping hood star and remembering the old and hungry crook with top notch production
-

I agree. I took 3 songs and put them with my other collection of his stuff. Crooked claims COB and he's a smart business man, but he puts on losey beats for his fans on a first solo album. I'm disappointed since I expected more from him and his crew.
-
I don't feel the album but "Vegas on Biz" is the bomb! 8)
-
ya'll are making me wanna cave in and DL it before the CD arrives
-
waiting for it to arrive in the mail
still don't get why he has that crackhead chick on his album cover
i just thought it was some random whore....who is it?

hack im trying to understand what your issue with this woman is...is she known industry trash or something ?or would you prefer a big ass pic of his neckless face?
...are you just saying its a shitty cover overall? help me out here fam.
-
covers coo in my book, id rather look at this chick than crookeds face.
THis album almost slipped under the radar for me. got the last (or only one) at FYE.. Best Buy get 1 copy in that my homie picked up..
as for the album i dig it.. favorites so far after 1 listen are Apex Predator, Crowns, Lady Fell n Love & No Sleep Gang (single maybe?)
-

when i first saw the photo of the CD i was like WTF is this? this girl looks like she's a crack addict
now that i've seen a few other photos of her i still dislike the cover photo but she's actually kinda cute
but i still don't like the photo of her on the cover OR the cover idea itself...very lazy IMO.
-
fair enough. it seemed personal lol.
-
The first 4 songs are good, then it becomes garbage:

Crook n porter is dope. Love crooked passion in the video

LMFAO

I expected more from a crooked I album. the guy is a lyrical genius.maybe my expectation was to high but I don't like the album. vegas on biz is a good song. but the album is getting good reviews so I guess it worked out for crooked. its good to see him getting good reviews tho.
-
this shit is hot...crook n porter is fire 8)
-
'crook n porter' is the closest thing to a dre beat on here and it's a pretty ill track. production on there is way ahead of most this album.
-
This is garbage. Weak beats. Sounds like another Hiphop weekly. Very disappointed.

On point.
This is wildly incoherent, just like expected.. sounds like a mixtape, with some decent tracks thrown in..
Crook for sure possess the talent, but he needs a better production budget, direction, an executive producer in other words..

how's it sound like a mixtape if there are no tags, shout outs, stolen beats or pointless skits?
it's 11 songs, 10 solo. all original beats. that's what i call an album..and while there are a few average beats most of this shit is fire. crook n porter, yodo, vegas on biz, the track with tech etc. are all bangers

don't make me break out the Red Foreman again...

don't make me break out the Red Foreman again...
son dropped a weak project and it's gonna collect dust on shelves don't be mad.
-
Don't know why everybody like "Crook 'n Porter", boring song.
-
very disappointed this is his first CD that I can actually go buy in a store and it's average as fuck :-\
Crook should have tried keeping whatever beats Slaughterhouse passed on from their album, these beats are on the same level as what I used to make on Fruity Loops/Kinetic back in the day
-
Don't know why everybody like "Crook 'n Porter", boring song.
for real, even a friend of mine posted that on Facebook and I thought to myself "of all songs he could have posted..."
the only good tracks that I kept on my iPhone were "Vegas On Biz", "Let Me Get It", "Apex Predator", and "No Sleep Gang"
-
Good raps. Shit beats.
Lame IMO.

Well, I should have explained better what I meant about "sounds like a mixtape".. true, it's in CDQ, all full tracks, and no DJ screaming over it, but..
* Poor/random beat selections, some are extremely bland/generic. It doesn't sound planned in any way. No-name producers might come up with dope beats some times, but it sounds like Crook picked some random beats from Twitter-producer connects.
* No plan/theme for the album, it sounds like 11 tracks put together for good measure. There's no coherency, even Jadakiss-albums sound more coherent, and that says a lot.
* The difference between the dope tracks and the rest is huge. A few of them would sound excellent on an album, while others sounds like mixtape leftovers.
* Subject matter.. Crook might be sick with the flow and punchlines, but 8 of 10 Crook joints features the same braggadocio and tough guy talk.. he should do more concept tracks, and tracks with an actual subject.
* Features. Doing 10 og 11 solo is respectable, but I'd rather hear a couple of well placed features.. i.e. Royce, Kendrick, Jay Rock, Ras Kass, Big K.R.I.T, Pusha T, and K-Young, Kobe & Sly on the hooks..

you summed it up pretty much.

Previewed the album on YouTube
Starts with 2 decent tracks and I was thinking hey maybe this ain't going to be so bad
Then the quality drops off and never quite gets back up, ranging from average mixtape stuff to borderline risible. The only track that really stands out for me and shows Crook as a capable artist is Sumthin For Nuthin which actually stands on its own as a decent track.
Having said that Crooks style hasn't matured. The old sound and skill are still there interspersed with jockin bandwagon MMG and Kendrick style and copycat flows. For an artist as established and acclaimed as Crooked I for him to not have a fully developed MC persona for his clearly capable pen deems him still unworthy of a solo album that's going to have any impact - and it shows here. If he really did try on this one he failed.
4.5/10 somewhere between poor and mediocre
-
yodo reminds me of obie trices youve been slain.
both songs make me want to cap an englishman.
-
after a week of bumping this album/mixtape i gotta say crooked needs darren vegas & jim gettum back in the circle cause these producers he got now aint cutting it at all...
-
yeah im sure that will sell a million.
go sit your chrondon lookin ass down somewhere and practice looking hard in the mirror and change that ugly ass sig while your at it no ones buying this cunts book.
-
This was a cheap album...simple and plain. Crooked is probably a tight ass, who doesn't want to spend on better production and features. It's got some good tracks but it's a half ass album. He didn't take this shit serious. He wasn't trying to make a classic here.
-
shit is so mixtapish.
i feel bad for the ppl that was waiting this whole time...i lost anticipation for any good crook album by 06
-

It's an industry thing that ugly or old artists don't put their mug on the cover isn't it?
-
good for crooked that he decided to call something an album.
though i agree the sound of most of the songs is very generic, same thing with his EPs(as expected)
for now i like nobody cares, could be a single
-
NOT FOR ME THX

still bumpin it, i am the only one?
-
"Crowns" is my fav song on the album... Solid release.
-
Wasn't into it. I still think Crooked I struggles with making great songs, consistently. Need a hot verse? Crooked I's the man. But, an entire album? That's not his strong suit. His ear for beats is questionable. His hooks are typically bad. His "baller/gangster" concepts are tired. Like Ras Kass, Chino XL, Papoose and the like, some times the "Super-Lyrical" emcee is just not made for an album.
-
his ear for beats isn't the bad thing but his ear for releasing a hot song properly is fucking horrible
who the fuck gives away a song like Mr. Porter Meets Pigface for free? or Boss and a Gangsta. glad he seems to be living comfortable off touring and guest appearances because his releases sure don't bring in the big bucks :D
i'm not one to care much for record sales though, those are for fans of pop artists like N Sync, Pitbull and T.I.
-
still bumpin it, i am the only one?
you and bald wilson.

it kinda seems like a rip of obies u been slain

i like the Mr. Porter song too...Crooked drops one verse that takes more skill to write than an enitre T.I. album

This is really disappointing.. Nobody writes better bars than him imo.. but this album just sounds effortless..
Like the way he sings the hook on A Lady Fell In Love and the way he starts that second verse? What the fuck was he thinkin?
btw the beat is an old joint from a danish rapper called Orgi-E. Peep the joint here. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DuaN2vJNv4c
Somebody in this thread said something about Crook not wanting to spend that much on beats and I think that was really spot on.
-
8)
To those who did not buy but like crooked cos of the comments in here, GET IT. 8)

I forgot this even came out this year :-X
very forgettable release, I actually think I bumped Young Boss Vol. 2 more this year lol

that album is weak as hell compare to what he is capable of - dont buy it :)
-
2ND listen, still sounds fucking dope 8) yeh i know back in the low life c style days better as far as beats n flow changed a bit but this album is FUCKING DOPE.
-
was a dope album...lots of great verses
but as someone said it's not what Crooked was capable of dropping...but he's still at the top of his game as a spitter and lyricist.
-
If he put out a hard copy of YB 2 I'd buy that instead, real talk. ;D
