Title: Rakim Possible move to G-Unit
Post by: Bones01 on March 21, 2007, 09:24:45 PM
Ever since the rapper left the Aftermath label in the summer of 2003, he seems to have struggled to find a home. After hearing about numerous offers from a number of recording labels, nothing was ever confirmed, but it seems as if 50's G-Unit may seal the deal with his one time idol as his artist.

This may not be a surprise as 50 Cent has already acquired established artists on his roster such as Mobb Deep, MOP, and was trying to acquire Mase before things with P Diddy went sour. In addition, it was rumored last year that the G-Unit general even tried to add the late Tupac Shakur's catalog onto his roster, promising to boost sales and bring better light to late rapper's posthumous remains.

If true, 50 Cent may be closer to sealing the deal than we think as the God MC performed for the G-Unit line on BET's Rip The Runway show.

If anything is ever confirmed, it will be interesting to see the reaction of Rakim followers as many established artists that have joined G-Unit Records such as Mobb Deep have been chastised and abandoned by some of their loyal fanbase for making the move.

That would be cool, and even greater if he sold some records, howerver I believe the great ones just know when to gracefully bow out.

I don't know about this. If he doesn't have to compromise his music and has 100% creative control than I say do it.

LOL

I haven't heard any recent music from the R , but for those who have, do you think he stills has the great lyrics that solidified him in the game?

At this point, I don't even care who he's signed to, as long as he releases an album.  We're going on 8 years now, it's getting ridiculous.

Remember when Kokane was supposedly signing to G-Unit?  Remember when Daz said he and Kurupt were signing to G-Unit?  Remember when it was rumored Guerilla Black was signing?

There have been constant rumors going back and forth about who's signing and who ain't.  I highly doubt this is true.

Rakim singing with G-Unit
AZ signing with Dipset

Backpackers worst nightmare.

Could happen, Rakim is 50s idol, 50 liked Mobb Deep and M.O.P. too and we all know what happened.

Rakim is most Rappers' idol, of course they'd want him on their label.

Quote from: Kurupt
Who's jokin? Rakim never joked, so why should I loc?
Now that's my idol....

I hope he comes nowhere near 50.

Didn't Rakim have issues with the whole gangsta/guns image while being on aftermath?  Dont you think being on G Unit that they will ask him to go in the same direction with the album? He'll still be under interscope, where all the shots are called by jimmy iovine.

lmao, so AZ and Rakim are backpackers' favorite rappers now? When's the last time you've seen a backpacker anyway? That's a great resurrection of a classical stereotype. Totally out of context, yah.

I'm a bit sceptical about Ra's possible signing with G-Unit, but I guess the outcome can't be bad. Basically,
At this point, I don't even care who he's signed to, as long as he releases an album.  We're going on 8 years now, it's getting ridiculous.

Of course he wouldn't compromsie, that's why things didn't work out with Dre. Iovine wanted Dre to hire Nate and 50 and cats like that to do hooks for Ra and Ra refused to let anyone else write for him.

Backpackers don't even fuck with AZ and Ra that heavy, they're on that Immortal Tech, Living legends, atmosphere, A team,Sage francis, Murs tip.

But I still see your observation. I don't think it'll happen, it would be just like when he was on the math except even less likelihood of dre beats. The only consolation prize would be that he may be just a bit likelier to drop an album on gunit

But Rakim won't be working under Dre for the most part if he signs to G-Unit - it'll probably with the likes of Sha Money XL and Storch so he'll have more "artistic freedom".

If Ra makes some dope music under G-Unit, then I ain't complaining as long as he doesn't say "G-G-G-G-G-Unit!!"

Now that I've come to think of it... Didn't Rakim leave Aftermath because it was distributed through Interscope, and Jimmy Iovine was forcing him to put out pop joints?

...G-Unit is also part of Interscope...

Shit yeah, that's a good point. Maybe because he was under Aftermath alone, Iovine had more say over the output.

Iovine might not give so much of a fuck about the G-Unit sub-label; after all if he did, that shitty Mobb Deep album would never have come out.

I know, great track that was. Best track on Blood Money too, which says it all; a remix of a 50 track shits on the rest of your album?

exactly, Ra did NOT leave because of Dre. Dre and him worked together just fine (you heard 'after you die' fuckin fire),Iovine even liked the album, he just wanted dre to get his r and b chicks, 50, and Nate dogg and cats like that to do hooks for the record.
but yeah it was iovine, not dre that drove ra away. And that's why it'd be pointless for him to go to G unit

you forgot ras kass, lol.

lots of rappers supposedly signing with g-unit, but i hope its true though, at least 50 got the money and the power to enable rakim to reach a massive amount of people plus i doubt he will really put his own twist on the albu, i think they will just let rakim do his thing with some dope producers....

can be really dope.
