Really?!? Damn. I haven't made it all the way through the album yet, but so far, it was sounding pretty good to me. I wouldn't say that what I've heard so far would be in the same league as "Thugged Out" or "Godzilla," but I've liked what I've heard. To each their own, though.
-
some one hook it up with a link 8)

Sounds like Yuk is throwing some subliminals at Game on the 1st track. Maybe I am wrong but it sounds like it.

Well let me make sure y'all understand I have never been a Yuk fan. I don't dislike him, just don't really bump or thoroughly enjoy his music. The last album (MDMP) had a few tracks worth keeping though and I did, and I didn't keep any joints off this album.
But I'm not the best "judge" to trust since I'm not a fan.

Ha you don't have to be a fan to judge music. At the end of the day you either like it or you don't. It may grow on ya later or not. You giving a honest opinion. I have been noticing that here alot, people are called groupies for liking albums and haters for not liking it. Long as you giving your honest 2 cents on it, it's all good.

No doubt, but i'm letting ppl know not to put THAT much stock into my opinion right here because I have never really liked Yuk. BUT I will say I did enjoy the last album more than this one for those asking if it's better than the last.

True. I will be honest, I am a Yuk fan and this album is cool but I don't consider it one of his best.

Real talk. But then again most of the joints off the last album I kept where the ones with guest appearances I enjoyed (Crooked I/G.Malone-Jayo-C-Bo/Devin/Trae-MC Eiht)
-
Just finished it, like I said earlier, cool album, got alot of good tracks, no wack ones but not alot of str8 bangers either. Solid. Beats are nice on here.

Yeah, a lot of 3/5 type tracks on here. Nothing bad, but nothing exceptional that makes it stand out.

Who's better than Yuk? on tha west Yuk's been puttin it down for tha WEST for years since 93 with Dru Down (Explicit Game) Yuk has gotten better over the years un like some rappers from tha West
-
For those asking, if you are a REALLY like "Thugged Out" and "Godzilla", i doubt you will like this one better then those but you will def like it better then "The Testament" and "MDMP" i"m pretty sure. Its my fav of his since i don't really like all his other albums much for some reason, they each got a couple good tracks but that's about it. This better be availible in Canada on the 14th or me and Yuk outta luck!!!
-
Damn this is pretty dissapointing :(
-
Meh yuk fell off after Godzilla to Me.This was mediocre at best
-
Im suprised you guys aint feelin it, theres 6-7 bangers on here, the rest are prob 3.75-4/5 tracks and maybe a track or two i wasn't feeling. Solid ass album imo though!!!
-
I just wanna ask thiz Question who's album is better
Snoop Dogg - Ego Trippin
Dj Quik & Kurupt - Blakout
Yukmouth - The West Coast Don
I say Yuk's is wayyyyyyyyyyy better
-
Yeah but all 3 of those albums suck
-
I put those albums cuz their most recent of the artist but who ever says Yukmouth's new album "sucks" dosen't know good music when they hear it the beats are on point so are the lyrics on point best album out tha west so far along with The Jacka Tear Gas
-
Well I wouldn't say the album sucks but its mediocre and nowhere near Godzilla
-
The Problem I got with Godzilla is there 2 many other people on it I was only diggin
Godzilla
Money & Power
Pimp Da Bitch
Kidnap U
Somebody gonna Die (only Yukmouth's verse he killed Master P)
Thug Lordz
Nothing 2 a Boss
The West Coast Don I like every song but for 3 tracks Godzilla and West Coast Don are both 18 tracks deep and West Coast Don got better featurs
-
one of the best street albums of the year, this is what i'm checking for the most
cocka roaches
westcoast geez
ain't nobody fuckin with me
pimpin for real
got gwop
la shit
up all nite

You forgot the top 2 songs on there "Da Town" and "Im A Gangsta" and i really like "They Like My Swag", some good ridin music!!!
-
Not listened yet, but already I'm annoyed at how the "scarface" concept has been used yet again ::) I mean come on Hip Hop ffs, quit with the Scarface Tony Montana shyt, none of you artists are remotely similar to him

Im not a Yuk hater at all and I used to be a big fan but on the real, how can you not see how he fell off hard
compares that to Thugged Out, Godzilla, Block Shit or N Thugs We Trust...
To me his last good shit was All Out War Vol.1 and then all the mixtapes/albums he dropped were average to garbage
Even the flow aint the same, he doesnt have that hunger anymore
And its the same thing for 70% of Bay Area rappers, music aint relevent anymore
Messy Marv, Mistah Fab, AP.9, Guce, Ya Boy... they all becoming trash
-
This album is just trash. Just a bunch of Gucci Lui and Bling Bling talk over semi hot south beats.
-
I enjoyed Thugged Out better than Godzilla. At least those albums didn't cover the tiresome, and cringe-worthy perception of the Scarface movie. Any idea of singles from the album??
-
before I will give a chance to listen, could anyone confirm for me if the album is mob music or wack hypy shit related?
-
MDMP was a dissapoint but im expecting this to be better.
-
This shit is dope but it ain't fucken wit Godzilla
-

any1 got a correct tracklisting?
-
You guys need to just relax and enjoy the music. If you don't like it then you don't like it...pretty simple. No need to talk about top 3's or top 10's, the wackest rappers and legends lol. You guys get a bit carried away at times!!!

None of those songs you listed are lyrical....Crooked dumbs his shit down when he's on tracks with Yuk. Why the fuck would he try to be lyrical on a track about cars and clothes? If you think Yukmouth is top 3 your standards for lyricism are pretty low.
-
Who gives a fuck whose more lyrical? This isn't a damn contest. Would you rather just listen to a shitty ass song with a shitty beat, shitty hook but crazy bars or would you rather listen to a dope beat with a dope hook and above average lyrics? Lyrics aren't ALWAYS everything, they mos def matter though. Crooked LRYICALLY is better then Yuk but in making overall GOOD music then Yuk wins. At the end of the day it doesn't matter. Its dope there makin music together!!!

compare his lyrics on a Slaughterhouse track to a track with Yuk. There's no fucking comparison. Think before YOU speak.

Actually I'd rather listen to a song with a dope beat, a dope hook, and dope lyrics. And there's plenty of rappers who fit that category. A guy who raps almost exclusively about the cars he drives, the clothes he wears and how hard he is, isn't what I'd call a good rapper.
btw if this is what you consider above average lyrics then your standards are low.

this album is average. and im a yuk fan too. been dissappointed since godzilla. better than mdmp tho. yuk needs to take his time and master his craft when it comes to choosing beats/hooks/concepts...alotta repetitive stuff you'd hear on the radio. several beats sound weak/generic... comon yuk!!
even hiphopdx shitted on this album. gave it a 2.5 outta 5. they even said "Witness Tha Realest" & "Sickology 101" is better than this:

Yukmouth - The West Coast Don
Monday, July 13, 2009 | Author: Mitchell HannaThe West Coast Don marks Yukmouth’s [click to read] first album since leaving Rap-A-Lot Records. Crafted by 13 different producers, the album features a plethora of guest appearances, including an unprecedented collaboration with R&B crooner T-Pain [click to read]. Kicking off with the hard-hitting Scarface-inspired “Cocka Roaches,” the self-proclaimed Don fires a warning shot at other west coast talent, aggressively spitting, “You never can kill a fire-breathing dragon with a dome shot, faggot / But I can make you spray yourself with your own glock / How the fuck you the king of the west, and you ain’t welcomed on your own block?”
In an attempt to achieve more airplay, Yukmouth has scattered more R&B-assisted cuts throughout the project than previous efforts. The album’s lead single “I’m A Gangsta” provides a midtempo, smooth balance between Ray J [click to read] and newcomer Dysonn’s singing and Yuk and Crooked I’s [click to view] gritty lyricism. Although, in comparison to previous collaborations on “Kalifornia G’z” and “Wake They Game Up,” the Slaughterhouse member’s latest verse is comparably shortchanged. While probably not “greatest hits worthy,” the T-Pain-assisted “44” provides a potential future single with commercial appeal. On the hustler anthem “Up All Nite,” The Jacka [click to read] and Yukmouth are reunited after a two-year hiatus alongside Matt Blaque and Glasses Malone [click to read]. Rhyming on the The Slapboyz-produced track, Mr. $1.7 Million mockingly spits, “How it feel to lose yo girl to an out of shape, nigga? / All that time at the gym, didn’t even matter / You don’t gotta slim down when yo pockets getting fatter.”
For the melodic “Blind Livin’” has Yukmouth, Dysonn, and Tha Realest reminisce on P-Killer Trackz’s mellow guitar riff instrumental. Over the Rap-Rock fusion, the fellow The Regime member rhymes, “I love my nigga that’s down to kill / Then escape the crime scene and come by and chill / He was blind though / So sick in the mind yo / He never worked with feelings / He was so blind bro / He’s blind livin.’” Fed up with snitching, Yuk pays homage to the incarcerated Black Mafia Family boss on the piano-laced “Big Meech,” featuring a cell phone conversation with the infamous Detroit native. On the Knock-produced “Go Home,” Yukmouth preaches about prison life, rhyming, “And be cool with them deputies / Respect they gangsta / Cuz they’ll slide one of these inmates a blade to straight shank ya / Catch you while you out on the phone / Or in the shower alone / He got shanked eight times in the dome.”
Bonded with an Arab-esque synthesizer hook and 808 drums, the street single “Da Town” provides an ode to the birthplace of Hyphy by four Oakland natives. On the mellow, macked out P-Killer Trackz-produced “Pimpin 4 Real” Bay Area legend Mac Dre is lyrically resurrected alongside Dysonn and The Regime member Dru Down. Holding true to tradition, the album culminates with the quintessential The Regime posse cut “Sum Dem Murder,” with producers Arson and Knoxx sampling lyrics by M.I.A. on the hook.
While Yukmouth’s solo albums have always been a mixed bag, The West Coast Don is arguably Yuk’s weakest solo effort to date, with lesser-known production, excessive usage of Auto-Tune, and unflattering filler tracks like “They Like My Swag,” and “Got Gwop.” More broadly, the album falls short of recent The Regime solo projects such as Tech N9ne’s Sickology 101 [click to read] and Tha Realest’s Witness Tha Realest. Surfacing one year after Yuk’s disappointing Million Dollar Mouthpiece, the album was undoubtedly rushed. Although a seemingly bigger budget may help the onetime Luniz star show his Bay stardom to new markets, the album lacks the focus in sound and thought necessary to endure in fast-moving times.

the album is decent but theres not enough story telling hood shit, theres too many lyrics about ballin and bitches and i the lyrics are a lil basic,he can come much tighter.also wot is he doing with t pain on there,if you took the best songs off this and million dollar mouth pece he would have a dope album, needs more songs like star in the sky or cant sell dope 4ever

Yeah i only listend to about half the cd in my car last night and the production sounded pretty dam average. Iam going to give the album a proper listen tonight though. Oh and the guest features(except crooked) all sounded a bit whack.
-
Listened to it yesterday and wasnt impressed on first listen, beats seemed so so and lyrically a little generic. Im hoping its an album that will grow on me as yuk is one of the best when he brings his A game.

^grew on me, quite enjoyed giving it a proper listen or two, was drinking though, but music and drink are a good combination.
