Eminem will be re-releasing his latest album Relapse next month under a new title, Relapse: Refill.
According to Rap-Up, the album will feature seven new songs and will packaged as a double disc. The rapper tapped 50 Cent and Just Blaze to contribute to the new material.
Relapse: Refill will hit stores on December 22nd.
Eminem was initially slated to drop Relapse 2 next month but it looks like that will be hitting shelves in 2010.

**** UPDATE ****
MTV article:
Eminem is a man of his word. He promised fans he would drop off two doses of music this year, and it looks like it's happening. On December 21, the rhyme legend is putting out a new version of his Relapse LP, subtitled The Refill, according to RapRadar.com. It will include five brand-new songs as well as the hit "Forever" and "Taking My Ball," which was featured on the Eminem/Jay-Z "Renegade Edition" of "DJ Hero."
And Slim Shady said this is just a taste of what's to come. "I want to deliver more material for the fans this year like I originally planned," Em told the Web site. "Hopefully these tracks on The Refill will tide the fans over until we put out Relapse 2 next year."
Eminem has been working on Relapse 2 for several months now, and in October, he revealed that Just Blaze was one of the producers on the record. During an interview on his Shade 45 satellite radio show last month, he said the sequel will be different from the original.
"[The album] is gonna be a lot different than people expect," Eminem told DJ Tony Touch. "As far as the contrast from the last album to this one, I got a couple of tracks with [D12's] Mr. Porter, two tracks with him so far. Four, possibly five with Just Blaze. The overall basis of this record, I went back to songs that are more emotionally driven. The last record I made, I think I was concentrating more on spitting. On this album, I feel like there's some of that, but I went back to songs with [feelings] to them as opposed to just rap records."

RollingStone article (Em goes into slightly more detail):
As Rolling Stone reported in March, Eminem promised not one but two doses of the Dr. Dre-prescribed Relapse would be released in 2009, but with the scheduling of the first installment’s Refill, it appears Relapse 2 is now slotted for release in 2010. “I want to deliver more material for the fans this year like I originally planned. Hopefully these tracks on The Refill will tide the fans over until we put out Relapse 2 next year,” Eminem said. “I got back in with Dre and then a few more producers, including Just Blaze, and went in a completely different direction which made me start from scratch. The new tracks started to sound very different than the tracks I originally intended to be on Relapse 2, but I still want the other stuff to be heard.”
Eminem has reportedly been hard at work in recent months working on Relapse 2, hitting the studio with producers like Just Blaze and Mr. Porter, so 2 won’t be an all-Dr. Dre affair. “I definitely feel like I’m in a different space right now. With the last record, I think a lot of it had to do with me getting sober, my eyes being open again. With Relapse, I wanted to prove myself that I could still do it. The zany, loony, ridiculous shit, so a lot of that album is rapid-fire punch lines,” Em previously said of Relapse 2. “Now I’m at a point where I’m blessed enough to be in a position where I don’t need to put out records, but I want to.”

If he released this as an EP, it wouldn't feel so much like Interscope squeezing what they can out of one of their top sellers.
-
I like it when labels cheat the fans by making them pay twice for an album. I respond by illegally downloading the new tracks. No one really loses.

Lol.

Of course. I mean, afterall... Interscope is the distributer... the financial backer. It's all business for them as a corperation. As for a strictly music standpoint... just between the artist and fans... it seems the only one who cares about that right now on the label is Bishop Lamont.
-
If the album is 10$ or less people might buy it but if it's more than that they can 4get it. This shoulda been an EP or a digital release. If Interscope wasn't to buy half of the shipments, I can only only see this doing 30K tops (and that's lieniant). I know Em has a strong loyal fan base but fact is that ain't gonna stop people from using their much needed (recession) money on something else, especially when u can just download the 7 songs for free lol... it's pointless and they are gonna lose money from it.
-
Other sites are saying that this will "replace" RELAPSE 2.
-
Other sites are saying that this will "replace" RELAPSE 2.
Ehh. I hope this doesn't actually replace "Relapse 2." My guess is that because "Relapse 2" was pushed back, they still wanted to release something around the same time frame that Relapse 2 was supposed to drop. And if that's the case, I think this project would be okay for that. But if this is actually supposed to replace "Relapse 2," I think that would kind of be a cheap cop out on Interscope's part to release a collection of half already-released material in lieu of an entirely new album.
-
someone just hook up the seven tracks on the 22nd lol.
by the way, these tracks must be average ass tracks for them not to make the Relapse II disc.
it's not like Eminem needs these 7 tracks to be amazing for fans, he has buzz at all times.

Some people are saying that there won't be a R2. If that's the case, than the 7 new tracks may be from the recording sessions w/ Mr. Porter and Just Blaze.
-
It's true^^^
thisis50.com says it.. that's a reliable source
Too bad.. but that means there are no albums holdin' up the DETOX project 8)
-
What a pointless release, Interscope blatantly really wanted something with Ems name on it to drop so that all the kiddies can get it for xmas

i could give a fuck about Eminem really but Just Blaze did say he produced some joints for Eminem for Relapse 2 on his Twitter..about the same time that picture of Snoop, Game and Dre in tue studio was posted..i remember that

i bet 'my ball' is one of the songs :loopaper:

turns out your right
The re-release of Eminem’s fifth studio album includes seven bonus tracks, including the single “Forever”, also featuring Drake, Kanye West, and Lil Wayne (previously found on the More Than A Game soundtrack), “Taking My Ball” (also released only with the DJ Hero video game), and five never-before-heard tracks. “I want to deliver more material for the fans this year like I originally planned” Eminem says. “Hopefully these tracks on The Refill will tide the fans over until we put out Relapse 2 next year”.
-
no album?
how do we have all these talks about what the new album is going to sound like, etc, etc.
they talked about it like it was finished & they were just waiting to pick a date.
& if there is not Relapse 2, was the first one his last album?
& like somebody else said; nothing is in the way of Detox now. 8)

5 new Eminem tracks this christmas can't complain, although I wish it was released as an EP
-
WORD UP LF!
for real though, are the 5 new joints all the just blaze and eminem joints that were supposed to be for relapse 2?..who cares, ima download this shit, not even considered buying relapse, so no chance im coppin a refill after the initial version attempt. Though i have to admit i am interested in hearing what blaze and eminem cooked up. Lets see.
By the way, is this being done to help the sales of the original relapse, kinda milk that to the max or would these sales be considered seperate? regardless, more free money for interscope for doing pretty much nothing new.
-
Dawaun just said that the stuff on Refill are the tracks that were gonna be on the original Relapse II. (but he said dont quote him on that lol)
and the new Relapse II is the Just Blaze contribution.

dont like it idea..if he love hes fan like hes said, wha he dont pu that sheet 4 free 8) 8)...instescope just milk him, fuck that
-
Did anybody really anticipate Relapse 2 anyways ? I'm curious to hear these Just Blaze though , the guy has kinda dissapeared
-
wtf. why release the same songs over- shoulda just released a short cd with the new songs only. fuckin retarded
-
at least this isnt replacing relapse 2, just a filler in between...but the shit should just be an ep, who's gonna go out and buy it all over again just for 5 new songs? i'll take a leaf out of Lord Funks book i reckon 8)
-
smh at Interscope for doing this
they did the same thing recently with Lady Gaga album : re-releasing her album as a double cds with 8 new tracks on disc 1, disc 2 being the actual album. i guess this is the new fashion to make $$$
i know i will have my megaupload link so i dont give a shit 8)
-
word its a corny money making tactic but it must be effective at squeezing extra sales outta the bigger releases.
downloaded and disliked relapse, will be downloading and likely dislikng the refill too.

Eminem's 'Relapse 2' album, originally scheduled for 2009, is getting pushed back to next year

DETROIT (AP) — Eminem's comeback year of 2009 was expected to include the release of two new albums.
That turned out to be only partially true.
"Relapse," the Detroit rapper's first original studio album in more than four years, debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard Top 200 chart in May and eventually went platinum.
The plan then was to release a follow-up disc, entitled "Relapse 2," in the second half of the year.
Instead, Eminem and Interscope Records announced Thursday that "Relapse 2" will drop in 2010, and a CD called "Relapse: Refill" will come out on Dec. 21.
The "Refill" album is a rerelease of "Relapse" and includes seven bonus tracks.

So "Refill" is NOT replacing R2. Just something to hold the fans over 'till R2 is released in 2010.

At the end of the day, it's always great to hear album leftovers and if those are produced by Dre and in CDQ then so much better.

"Insult To Injury" was produced by Alchemist, right?

Don't get too hyped about the Just Blaze beats, it doesn't mean that tha songs will come out top knotch. think about wat 50 said about him and Game on Detox (it's more of an event). I ain't sayin' that it's gonna b garbage, i havent even heard it but i dont think it'll be wat ppl are expecting. Eminem's career ain't wat it used to be in terms of public perception (Even tho that doesn't mean it'll be a horrible song). My take on it, him, Alchemist, Dre, Mr. Porter should just make a short album like "infinite 2" and it'll go over better with people.
-
WHY NOT JUST RELEASE AN EP. WHY RELEASE THE WHOlE ALBUM OVER FOR NO REASON> AHHHH!!!!!
-
Refill = Relapse E.P.
Em' says he going to make 'proper' songs rather showcasing his verbal skills on Relapse II. Like his songs on 8 mile, more singing n shit...you get the idea.

'The Refill' will feature five new songs including the DJ Hero track 'Taking My Ball' and 'Forever' which features Kanye West, Drake and Lil Wayne.

WORD UP LF!
for real though, are the 5 new joints all the just blaze and eminem joints that were supposed to be for relapse 2?..who cares, ima download this shit, not even considered buying relapse, so no chance im coppin a refill after the initial version attempt. By the way, is this being done to help the sales of the original relapse, kinda milk that to the max or would these sales be considered seperate? regardless, more free money for interscope for doing pretty much nothing new.
That's my guess. Relapse lost money and releasing R2 would probably make them lose money too so they release the same album with a bonus disc to boost sales and help create buzz for the next album. Unfortunately the new album will be just as shit as the last 2 and once again no one will care. He's made no effort to bring any maturity to his sound, style, content, or lyrics and it's finally doing him in. You can't do the same thing for 5 or 6 straight albums and expect people to care. It was fun, and witty and shocking ten years ago, around the time Jerry Springer was all those things. Well, when is the last time any one mentioned Jerry Springer (other than me just now)? Eminem has turned into a stale parody of himself and I don't think he even has what it takes to mature and get a second wind in his career. Hell, I only listen to the old stuff when I'm feeling nostalgic. In hindsight he was never really that good, but that's bias because I say that about all rapper with out a 2 or a Pac in their name.

Fuck very well said. I agree with it all except for that I think at one time he was great. To me "The way I am" is one of the best rap songs ever recorded. I think he has the talent, but for whatever reason he sticks to this kiddy rap bullshit.

Some of the singles were very good, especially off of MMLP. I still also like Rock Bottom and If I had from SSLP, and Just Don't Give a Fuck stands up for me still.

There is no way that Relapse LOST money. And if it did, why the hell would they press up a brand new repackaged version? Record companies generally do not repackage music that sells poorly. The more likely scenerio is that they added new content because Eminem is a guaranteed seller and they wanted something new of his to have on shelves in time for Christmas.
