Royce da 5’9″ is gearing up to release Layers, his first solo effort in nearly five years. While he has teamed up with DJ Premier for the successful PRhyme album and tour and dropped projects with Slaughterhouse, Royce has gone through plenty of experiences that he’s ready to explore on Layers.
“This album was the first album that I spent a lot of time putting it together as a complete thought,” the rapper said in a press release. “Most of my albums reflect an emotion based off of my feelings. Death Is Certain was dark because of everything I was going through; this album reflects my emotion, but also my thoughts. That focus on Layers comes after a gold album, multiple Top 5 chart appearances, and a high profile BET Hip Hop Awards cypher performance. “I’ve learned a lot from being apart of B.M.E, Slaughterhouse and PRhyme and I’ve had the opportunity to use all of those experiences to better myself as artist, so it’s very exciting to see how those experiences will affect my career.”
Layers is executive produced by Denaun Porter of D12, a frequent collaborator who Royce is very comfortable working with. “Denaun is a genius and working with him is one of my comfortable working zones,” added the Detroit native. “I like working with everyone I’ve worked with a lot on this project but Denaun’s super easy and a lot like myself in a lot of ways.”

A Rick Ross feature but no Slaughterhouse?? Meh.
Still looking forward to this though.

Shit man.. that was sick... I hope he finally gets it right. I've still yet to see a realized solo album from Royce, and I've been anticipating one every since Feb of 99' when I heard him on the Slim Shady LP

Damn.. this dude always waters himself down. Sometimes it's better when they have a label over their head, or else they will just rush to put out a number of sub-par projects and never really compile a classic.

I have checked out both joints & was disappointed that there was no Slaughterhouse feature but there was also no generic Rick Ross feature either.
I always enjoyed the Slaughterhouse features on their solo joints so I don't really get your point

Ohh shit that Tabernacle song!
This is probably one of the realist songs Royce ever did, Incredible song.

Royce Da 5’9″ Will Drop ‘Trust The Shooter’ Mixtape Tomorrow
(http://www.xxlmag.com/files/2016/03/Royce-da-59-Trust-the-Shooter-mixtape.jpg)
After venturing out as a part of Slaughterhouse and later with DJ Premier as PRhyme, Royce Da 5’9″ is back on his solo grind, with his upcoming album Layers slated for an April 15 release. Before then though, Nickel Nine will drop a prelude of sorts in the form of his Trust the Shooter EP, which, according to DatPiff, will be set free on Tuesday March 29 at around 3 p.m. EST. A countdown via the mixtape platform is included below.
While a tracklist for Trust the Shooter isn’t yet available, odds are that the project will include previously released tracks “Which Is Cool” and “Savages,” as neither appear on the Layers iTunes preorder. As for his Layers rollout, Royce has lead with the autobiographical single “Tabernacle” which received a similarly personal video treatment earlier this month.
Speaking with XXL, the Detroit rapper says of Layers, “I’ll be peeling back all of them. One of my layers is PRhyme, another is Slaughterhouse, another is Bad Meets Evil. All of these different styles and sides of my creativity come out in different ways and different groups, and this is basically me peeling back all the layers and giving you every side of me as Royce da 5’9” the solo artist in 2016. This is the complete artist.”
And later: “I don’t mean to sound cliché but the album as a whole is my best work to date. I can’t wait for people to hear it just so I can get feedback on what people think about it once they start picking apart and dissecting songs. I can’t wait to read the comments and hear what everybody has to say. I’m excited about the whole process.”
Peep the countdown clock below and check back tomorrow when Trust the Shooter is expected to drop.

I think its a good album but mixtape is better imo
After a quick listen I was thinking the same
-
because Royce needs Primo (on every track) to make a good album lol
-
7.5/10 on the first listen.
-
iTunes Version is out. 8)
l'll give a better listen. But yeah, after first listen the mixtape is better than album.
-
YUP, the mixtape is better.
-
Both the mixtape and album has classic songs, if you mixed them together you could have a near classic album.
On a side note does anyone have a link to the version of Street Hop that someone remastered with the better sound quality?
