Zoom was recorded while on Death Row i believe, and from what i know "My Life" was done in like 96. Possibly from The Chronic II. not sure though.

The follow up to The Chronic that Dre was doing in 96 before he left Death Row. It is advertised in 2Pac's All Eyez On Me booklet.

yeah i guess it was meant for the original Chronic II; but The D.O.C. vocals are not from '96, since The D.O.C. left death row in '94.

yes and also about that album called detox. how it gonna sound like and shit...
-
Not totally sure where 'My Life' is from but 'Zoom' was intended for the Snoop/Dre album Makeups to Breakups in 97/98. When the album didn't happen Dre did the track with LL Cool J for the Bullworth Soundtrack.
-
3 dope tracks 8)

bump:
i recently talked to HighEyeCue about this, but i believe there has been no such thing as the original chronic II.
yes i know that a project called Chronic II was announced by death row ( and even advertised in 96 if i'm not mistaken), but as far as i know Dre never gave his new project that name.
he was planning his escape and was tired of the gangsta rap and the bullshit around the label, so why would he call it Chronic II
Dre's schedule and Death Row's schedule weren't really matching :P
-
he was planning his escape and was tired of the gangsta rap and the bullshit around the label, so why would he call it Chronic II
Then why would he call his 1999 album Chronic 2001 (or Chronic 2000 before Suge stole the name)?
-

not sure, you tell me
well, when looking at the backcover i would say because it's basically his new millennium chronic, as it was released at the end of 1999 ( new sound and all, but still dre ) ;)
-
chronic II in the booklet ad was probably just a placeholder title
-
Anyone got a reup of this song? My Life
-
I think the album was supposed to be called Chronic 2000 but then Death Row released theirs first
2001 is a pretty cool name anyway 8)
-
You guys wanna good song???? Who has a CDQ of "Tha Next Episode" O.G. leftover off of Doggystyle???? Now THATS a fucking song!
-
If that shit gets released in cd quality that will be the day. Would be amazing though.
-

I heard that was the story behind Zoom. Well all I can say is, sorry Westcoast but L's version shits all over the Snoop one. Sorry, but it is what it is.
-
i do not.

i know ;)
i was just wondering about the "original chronic II" ;)
Dre was working on an album while planning his escape from death row, but i think it wasn't supposed to be called Chronic II.
-
One of my fav Dre tracks
-
good lookiing some classic fucking shit right here

yep, "Papas Got a Brand New Funk: A New World Odor" not sure if they were the exact words but I think that was Dre's first tiitle for it, it was in a "Newsweek" article around late '96 if I remember correctly
-
^i think you're right with that one
WE NEED A DUBCNN INTERVIEW WITH DR. DRE... could you imagine it? it'd come in close to 8 parts...

haha
best chances are after the release of Detox, but you know , Dre doesn't really like to talk
-
after listening to this i dont really like it much. its good and all, but its missing that staying factor.

This track is unfadeable! This is the Dre we all know and love, forgot about how dope he was. Someone did a great job with this youtube video to go along with it.
Why does this beat sound vaguely familiar?
-

Naw man.. I think what happened was Snoop couldn't get cleared for the track.
-
King Tee used this same beat on "Drama", if i remember right. Both are bangin...
ahhhh, no wonder it sounded familiar to me
-
Damn, only two verses!!
Damn it would really be something if Dre put something like this on Detox, and start off right where he ended this track
Probably never happen,Cuz Suge probably owns the rights to this song...

It's the kind of sound and style that made the West Coast great, that we haven't heard in a long time. He'll probably have to update his sound for Detox.
-
Hey... doesn't this beat also sound the same as the Dre and Mr. E A Ski track from way back in 96?

True, True!!

I always thought Dre and Snoop's lyrics were madd weak for that origional Zoom track. I didn't like Dre's "Firm style" mafiaso raps he used for a couple years. But besides Dre and Snoop's lyrics the song is bangin.
-
On this youtube version the chorus is a fanmade remix. It blends in a DOC song from his Helter Skelter album that I can't remember the name of. Can anybody help me out?
-
Nevermind I figured it out thanks.

And that's a lot when you got to say the song is bangin' besides Dre and Snoops' Lyrics.

What song and what part of the song are you saying was added for the youtube version?
Also, getting back to that origional Zoom track I noticed a different intro from that I hadn't heard before... that intro is the best part of the song! it has some low riding bass sample at the beginning and fades into the track.
-
can anyone enlighten me as to who did the original song that this song samples? and can you hook it up?
-
Roy Ayers - Sunshine or My Life in the Sunshine. Something along those lines.
-
Hello, i would like to know what is the difference between an OG version and a normal version ?
-
Classic shit, but i don't think this song was recorded during the Death Row Era though.

are you talking about "My Life"?
if so, listen to the lyrics and keep in mind that the D.O.C. is featured ;)

Yeah, but The D.O.C. was one of the first people to leave Death Row, maybe dubcnn should ask him about this song?

yeah he left in 94'.
so i don't see how this can't be from the death row era.
i assume that it's a chronic leftover.

King T used the same beat on "That's Drama", what year was that released? The beat just really sounds like it's from 1999 or somethin'.

don't know the exact year, but King T was around at the beginning of aftermath and Thy Kingdom Come was supposed to be released in 1998 so that's Drama must be from the period 96-98.
-
IMO this must be an Aftermath-recording... I definately don't think DOC would work on a Death Row project, and no way this was made before he departed. My guess is that it's a very early Aftermath-recording... If you listen to Dre's rapping, the style sounds quite similar to what he did on i.e. The Aftermath compilation..

no it can't be an aftermath leftover as Dre and Doc weren't getting along at that time.
the lyrics+ production clearly prove that it's from the death row era; and why are you so sure that this can't be a Chronic leftover?
-
Well all I can say is, sorry Westcoast but L's version shits all over the Snoop one. Sorry, but it is what it is.
that's sooo true ...LL brought some awesome flava to the track!
-
Dre and Mel-Man also remade the beat for "My Life", slightly updated, for "Blawww" on Hittman's "Hittmanic Verses" album/"Hitt's Big Score" bootleg.
