Quoted by Big Snoop himself, but my question is..do you think he was right?
Was "Da Game Is To Be Sold, Not To Be Told" really that bad? I actually liked a lot of songs on this album, and actually find it better than some of his later work (R&G: The Masterpiece, Paid Tha Cost To Be Da Bo$$). Although a lot of this album was filled with the average No Limit formula, and featured nearly their whole roster, there was probably 5 or 6 GREAT tracks on this release.
Don't Let Go
Still A G Thang
Game Of Life
Hoes, Money & Clout
Doggz Gonna Get Ya
Drop ya thoughts on this overlooked Snoop album.

i really hated this album at first. Its recently grown on me. Not a whole lot, but better than I thought.
-
damn, the never ending "analyze lyrics to Neva Have 2 Worry" threads. hahhah.. all good.
-
I like the album..It was not a bad album!!!
Top Dogg was More On Point, it had a more cohesive sound!1
Last Meal Was Better
-
my least favorite snoop album it never grew on me and i doubt that it ever will
-
it sucks
i bet alot of the people on here that like it wouldn't if it was by someone other than snoop
snoop's weakest rhymes of his carreer + weakest beats of his carreer = weakest album of his carreer
-
I liked a couple of tracks
Still A G Thang was dope and another one forgot the name of it
-
liked the chorus on the charlie wilson track.. you gets no love i think. the beat was cool too, but snoop was TERRIBLE on it. no charisma whatsoever.
imo snoop really sounded like he didnt wanna make music in that time period

Honnestly I like this album, it sounds kinda like a crossover between south and west even if it sounds more like south... Anyway I think it is underrated.
-
I just don't think it was something snoop fans wanted....a south album. It was just ok, but it's one of the worst snoop CDs.
-
yeah, i cant stand snoop on south shit

Snoop dropped "No Limit Top Dogg" 9 months later so I guess we are not the only ones who thought it was weak

i still like it more than ego trippin though
-
It seemed even more mad weak at the time because people thought he was going to drop another Doggystyle. Snoop had only dropped Doggfather and people weren't feeling it, but everyone thought he just slipped up a bit and he'd back to Doggystyle standards on the next album. In interviews Snoop was agreeing he fell off with that album but he'd come back harder with this next one
So then he went to No Limit, so people were like awesome a new start for Snoop, get back with Dre maybe, make a dope album, etc etc but that shit was more of a disappointment than Doggfather! And so began the whole thing of people expecting a new Doggystyle each time out and being disappointed, the only difference being the level of disappointment each time out
The album was weak mainly because of the really low budget rushed beats, but there was some ok stuff on there. Knowing what we know now, it actually isn't all that weak compared to his usual albums, it's just it's ridiculously weak if you compare it to Doggystyle
I'd say Da Game... is on about the same level as Ego Trippin though, although listening to Da Game is actually painful in some parts, Ego Trippin is just boring mostly
-
Well yeah at the time it dropped I guess people just expected more.
