Title: MMG has pretty much taken over 2011
Post by: BiggBoogaBiff on October 23, 2011, 11:07:58 PM
When Self Made came out their buzz was pretty regular for a "rick ross group" and now they're the momentum.  at 1st i didn't really care too much about em but now Ross, Wale, and Mill are the top dawgz of 2011 right now.

I gotta give my props

Based on what exactly? Rick Ross failed to go gold and that mmg album didn't move over 100k.

Not to mention that wack ass cypher at the bet awards  :-X

They are kings of nothing. You've got to be the dumbest muthafucka on the planet.

Careful. Any time you take something Tube says too seriously, it has the potential to become a problem.

Yeah let's all act like Ross wasn't 2010 MVP and has been in the Top Anticipated List all 2011.  Let's act like Wale don't have the bangers out right now with "That Way" and "Bait".  Pretend that Meek Mill ain't surprise the fuck outta you and came with the heat all year.  "Dream Chasers" is on my computer.  I downloaded it the day it came out.  Gunplay had the heat too.  "Mike Tyson" is savage beast musik.

They even took over some of BrickSquad's airtime, even tho they've all been 808 Mafia influenced OR produced.  To say that Maybach Music Group isn't gonna hold the rest of the year hostage along with Young Money, BSM, J. Cole, The Throne, and TI is saying humans don't breathe air.

Son, take over what? Eminem's last album sold like ten million world wide; I'd say that calls for "MVP" of 2010. As for this year, Jay & Kanye sold a million & Wayne did a million in a week.

Like Jay said, Ross couldn't sell half of that. Your logic is more flawed than your existence.

They might not be selling much but considering how the market is today for groups and their albums or whatever...it's quite clear MMG made the most impact this year. And speaking strictly hype wise, being on other peoples tracks, what people like, just the general vibe...again the most significant group this year.

Rick Ross is a mainstream rapper. What exactly is "the rap world" to you if it doesn't include Jay, Wayne and Ye? Because the underground doesn't give a fuck about Rick Ross. And he's one of the less relevant mainstream rappers.

the huge number of records they sell is not all from typical rap listeners. a very small % of people buy records and its mostly pop listeners that will listen to crossover shit

First of all, you're an idiot for acting like you know who bought the albums. There are no demographics of "degree of Hip Hop fan" to see who bought his albums. But if you're being logical (& clearly you're not), it would make sense since Rick Ross saturated the market, similar to Lil' Wayne type status, it would be a safe assumption that the mainstream listeners, who listen to the radio, who are forced his listen to him every three songs are the ones who went out to buy his album.

Regardless, you cannot even come close to denying that Jay, Ye & Wayne have maintained that "taking over" status for this year. You cannot argue numbers. It's not possible. Well, I guess it's possible...but you'd have to be a complete idiot to think you can. Which is why I guess some people here are. Eminem & Royce outsold Rick Ross & that was some random EP.

I'll give you Ross is a clear cut second tier mainstream artist. He sells a credible amount of albums to not be considered a bust or flop. But he's nowhere near the "throne", pun intended.

Self Made was a solid compilation while Meek, Pill, and Stalley had 3 of the best mixtapes this year, and I'm sure Wale's upcoming album is sure to be superior to his first one

MMG did big things this year and will continue to do so in 2012  8)

I also see some people still don't know what a mainstream rapper is smh.  Rick Ross is no Pharrell Williams or Justin Beiber.  Truthfully, the nigga Chris Brown is only mainstream becuz they want him there and he does good in that world.  Even before Rhianna got her shit checked young niggaz knew Chris Brown was on some grown man shit.  He was different from them B2K niggaz at least.  He definitely should stay in his lane(s) tho.

But let's not get ahead of ourselves before we go on about nothing.

Mainstream is making radio friendly music. Ross clearly makes radio friendly music. Despite the fact most of the shit of his on the radio is just features he jumps on.

A year ago nobody knew who Meek Mill was, Wale was pushing 25k his first week in 2009.

I guess next week will be a better judgement, but I'm willing to bet money Wale pushes close to 100k his first week with this Ambition album. And that's without Lady Gaga on his single like he had on his debut album.

MMG definitely hasn't hit Young Money status yet, but they've made a quicker impact than any other clique this year.

That "Tupac Back" record wasn't even on the radio, yet pretty much every hip hop fan knows the track and plenty of people dig it. It even got the headline of XXL's Tupac anniversary issue.
