Title: The Official NFL Thread
Post by: Fuck Your Existence on August 18, 2008, 04:21:00 PM
imma start this off with a big LOL to Chicago for still not going after a QB in free agency or via the draft and still going with Kyle Orton. We all know he's gonna fuck up again then Grossman will come in and he will fuck up even worse. how many seasons have they went with this un-dynamic duo? fuckin comedy

I was very impressed with the niners saturday night!! Our d looked great, our pass rush was RELENTLESS!! 7 Sacks!! And 3 on Rodgers in 2 series!!! Our defense is so young and fast, Josh Morgan is gonna be a stud EVERYONE Watch out!!! Hes gonna help or WR Core so much this year, everytime VD touches the ball you feel like he can score..If we can get our Qb situation right, we can be scary and surprise alot of people.

you know what,i got you on feeling excited about the talent we have on this team. But i do not take any stock in what happens or doesnt happen in pre-season games. on paper there is young talent and there is a possibility that SF can be a dark horse. however there was alot of hype about them last year...until week 3. the offense has to be able to sustain drives and help the defense and keep them off the field. i wanna be more hyped and excited about our young talent we have on O (morgan,VD etc.) but the qb situation is far from settled and obviously is a huge question mark.

im honestly not worried about injury...its performance. i don't want him to have to try to prove himself and try to do too much. i want him to just play his like he did last year, and we'll be fine.

his style of play from the jump is erratic. he takes big chances and the play of the team as a whole will determine what chances he feels he has to take.

yeah, but if he plays well those big chances will work out more times than not. if he plays with a level-head and plays the game he has, i will be very satisfied.

I think the Jets and Giants both look solid so far!

here's Hack's predictions as of August 18th  (subject to change)

AFC

Patriots*
Jets (wild card)
Bills
Dolfags

Steelers
Browns  (Anderson will come down from last year and the QB contraversy will tear this playoff-talented team apart unless Brady Quinn is the real deal)
Bengals
Ravens

Colts
Jaguars (wild card)
Titans
Texans

Chargers
Raiders
Broncos
Chiefs

NFC

Cowgirls
Giants (wild card)
Eagles (wild card)
Redskins

Vikings
Packers
Bears
Lions

Saints  (this division is hard to pick, but pretty outside of the Saints it's boring if you ask me)
Buccaneers
Panthers
Falcons

Seahawks
49ers
Cardinals
Rams

not making any playoff predictions yet (the two best teams on paper are Dallas and San Diego, and ofcourse you gotta love Indy-New England as legit powerhouses

everyone is optimistic this time of the year...cept Falcon fans

the Jets with Brett Favre, Alan Faneca and Kris Jenkins should be enough additions to beat the Titans with Vince Young

he's a GREAT athlete

but....in certain positions the NFL is a thinking man's game

quarterback is one of those positions.  the elite QB's (Manning, Brady, Favre, Mcnabb, Brees) are all smart men.  Vince got a negative wonderlic score LOL (exagerating but barely)

yea, they re-signed Chris Henry. he can't play til week 5, but that must mean that Chad's injury is more serious than they thought.

as for Housh, he'll be fine. Rudi is washed up anyway. I rather see a Chris Perry/Kenny Watson RBBC anyway.

no doubt about that, but he is just an awful QB.

he has no weapons either and they are built for running the ball. I don't consider Justin Gage a weapon. maybe Crumpler, but who knows.

Chris Johnson is really gonna open things up for him if he eventually starts too.

they compared him to Vick when he was comin out of college. Vick ain't nothing special anyway as a QB. people just enjoy watching him scramble. i think Vince is a better passer than Vick, but that isn't saying much. i like the Jets offense over the Titans.

i think Vick had the stronger arm

both have accuracy issues

Young can atleast say he won something (college championship)

Vick's biggest on field accomplishment will always be the Packers playoff win in the snow if i'm not mistaken...or running for 1000 yards at QB

but the dog thing is synonomous with his name now

lol at hatin' on my boy Vince when his record as a starter is 18-11 and literally took my titans out the shit hole as soon as he came into the starting role

stats don't tell the whole story, this man simply get's it done

the passing will be better this year; gage is under rated, crumpler will seriously help us in the red zone and Mccariens is poised for a strong season if injury is limited

Jets are NOT BETTER than us; our defense is to strong and so is our running game. We are built to run the ball and were fantastic at that last year; Expect more of the same from LenDale White, and with the addition of Chris Johnson (dude is a BEAST) and Young's quad being healthy (was beat up last year) our running game will be even better

so an improved passing game and even better running game > the Jets (Titans running game makes the MAJOR difference)
the defense which will be as good as it was last year > the jets defense
overall: Titans > Jets

but i'm used to ppl sleeping on my boys...

Jacksonville doesnt scare me. We tend to have their number, even the years when they do better than us or we at least split games with them. Indy on the other hand is a toss up. In recent years theyve been shittin all over us but last year we split with them and could have went 2-0 on them if fucking Roydell Williams could catch a damn soft 10-15 yard pass. LOL @ the Jets. I like Favre but I dont see them being all that incredible. Dudes only gettin older and the AFC is alot crazier than the NFC. He had a good year last year but I see him having just an alrite one this year.

they are pretty evenly matched. it's always tough to call AFC South games. very competitive division.

however, I believe the Jags lost on opening day when Garrard was just forced into the starting QB gig unexpectedly.

after that, the Jags were highly competitive. cmon, they went to Pittsburgh and beat the Steelers in the snow! the Titans couldn't do that even if the Steelers had their eyes closed!

however, I believe the Jags lost on opening day when Garrard was just forced into the starting QB gig unexpectedly.
no, they lost because we ran ALL OVER THEM & Gerrard ain't got nothin' 2 do with that (go check the #s, we ran ridiculously on them)

and it was Chris Brown of all ppl. I still remember how surprised I was when I saw that.

the Jags didn't run the ball enough in that game like they did in the second. you can't blame Garrard tho. the guy did all he could. the Titans only won by 3 points tho. the Jags made a statement in the second game and Q. Gray started and beat the Titans!

different story this year..

I'm calling it how I see it.

Jags 2-0

Titans 0-2

LOL at "jack over tenn" any day of the week..last year we went into Jack and beat them and they came into Tenn and beat us - these 2 teams are about as even matched as any 2 in the NFL, it's like this every year

Titans & Colts have also been really close the last 2-3 years

Thats what I'm trying to tell this nigga. We really would have went 2-0 on the Colts, the best team in the division and defending SB' champs, if it wasn't for a soft 10-15 yd pass dropped by Roydell Williams. Vince ain't perfect. Hes far from it, but I honestly don't see him as detriment to our team. He takes a lot of blame for the passing game but our receivers ain't too extraordinary either and definitely should be held accountable for it looking so bad to Even though he's lackluster passing hes still good at rushing which is all we do anyways. Add his rushing ability with Chris Johnson's speed and athleticism and Lendale White actually having some decent relief fresh off a 1000 yd rushing season with a reliable receiving target with Alge   Crumpler and we should see a little improvement offensively which is all we need . We went 10-6 last year so give us some credit. We hold our own in one of the toughest(if not the toughest) division in the NFL.

exactly. I watched every game, I thought it was Brandon Jones who dropped that pass? It was 3rd down, if he caught that (was a good throw by Young and very catchable) we were in field goal range and u know Bironas is THE MAN and would have hit that. Yeah, we watch the games as Titans fans and Vince isn't a detriment to our team at all. He needs some better targets (we got a lil better this year WR-TE wise) cause they drop 2 many passes and it looks bad on VINCE's stat sheet. Chris Johnson has so much speed, it's ridiculous. It's hard to imagine our running game getting even better (with LenDale rushing for over 1,000 last year) but that's what will happen with the addition of Johnson and a healthy Young who will run for more yards this season than last imo. 10-6 and 0-3 without Haynesworth. Imagine if he played those 3 games, I bet we would have been 12-4. We held our own in THE TOUGHEST division in the HISTORY of football IMO (since the NFL-AFL mergining, no division had as good as a winning percentage as the AFC SOUTH did last season) yet somehow we still get under rated ::)  it's because we're in a small market imo.

lol, if Chris Johnson can run on the Jags (L. White can't, he's too slow), then you guys got the win.

Haynesworth being healthy is the key to your run defense, so you gotta stop MJD and Fragile Fred.

And I dont know about our WR corps improving too much. I was kinda hoping they would have drafted a WR earlier in the draft or at least went for one of the big name WRs in FA. Hopefully some of they younger guys will develop and they should have better looks because other teams are gonna have to guard Alge pretty tight.

Haynesworth will be healthy for at least that game lol and will stop those 2.

yeah, our WR's are our main downfall. It improved a bit, not much. didn't lose anyone and added Justin Mccariens and Lavelle Hawkins. I also wish we drafted one earlier (maybe 2nd round) cause I like the Chris Johnson pick but I also like the 2nd round pick of Jason Jones. Lavelle Hawkins was a GREAT pick at 3rd round, i got a good feelin' bout this dude. We should have really went for one in FA. Yeah, Alge will draw attention.

I don't think Pennington is a bad commodity at all. the Dolphins strength is running the football.
Chad is experienced and a great manager of the game. he's just had health issues during his time with the Jets.
we have a very young team and I think 5-6 wins isn't a bad prediction, given the talent they have.

Remember, Leinart was drafted by the Retardinals.  Its hard for anybody 2 do well with an organization that's been terrible for decades.  Curse of the Bidwells.  There been a few times when it was their year to shine & they still terrible.  Same thing with the Lions organization.

The great thing about the NFL is almost every team has optimism for improving to make the playoffs or win a championship, except for maybe 5 teams just hoping that their young guys show some promise and look like building blocks for the future. My 49ers fans know that we can overtake Seattle, all we need is decent QB play, just making key throws and limited mistakes so our running game and defense can take over. I'm high on the FB Zak Keasey and WR Josh Morgan, and also FS Dashon Goldson, even though it looks like Mark Roman will still be the starter. Goldson has outplayed him no question in the preseason, he will end up with the starting spot.

Other points:
The Eagles have high expectations because they are healthy (except for Kevin Curtis), added a top CB in Asante Samuel, a key receiver/returner in DeSean Jackson, and are always a contender.

The Cardinals will find that Kurt Warner is not the answer. He might put up big numbers, but his costly turnovers will keep them out of the playoffs. Not sure if Leinart will ever be the guy, but Warner won't be.

The Jets should have some success this year. They have some nice players on offense and put in a lot of money to the O-Line. However, their defense, especially at the LB spots, will let them down and they won't make the playoffs. Their CB combo of Revis and Dwight Lowery will establish as a strong force.

lmao at the vikings and seahawks being better than the Packers?

Vikings are no way better than the Pack unless they prove otherwise...Rodgers >>>all of their QB's combined.

Y'all are forgetting, the packers defense put AP OUT! And our offense line is still intact....so talking about how vikings D line gonna get to rodgers? he only needs 2-3  seconds to hit the best set of WR's in the NFC (Yards AFter Catch bitches).

I agree. only thing the Vikings did was get Berrian, Jared Allen, Madieu Williams, and who else?

Tavaris Jackson sucks and is hurt right now, so that won't help Berrian and Sidney Rice.

AP can be limited by GB's stellar 7 man front.

Ryan Grant, James Jones, Greg Jennings, Donald Lee, and Driver is all I have to say. week 1 goes to the Pack.

jacksoin has more experience with his teams system that was buiilt for his style of play, that counts just as much

if rodgers goesdown the style of Rodgers playbook and the 2 rooks (brohm?)  may not fit well.  more time for the team to have to adjust.

LT supposedly looks great in camp, Rivers proved last year in the playoffs he can get it done. And you must not watch much football, you keep asking about Sd's backup, ITS FUCKIN DARREN SPROLES!!! Have you never watched the Chargers before? hes been very explosive as a 3rd down back and such the last few years, def capable of scoring every time he touches the ball, hes been returning kicks and punts for SD for a while

In a surprising move, the New England Patriots informed wide receiver Chad Jackson this morning that they are cutting him from the roster, according to a league source. Jackson, the team's second-round draft choice in 2006, entered training camp in a battle for the No. 3 job previously occupied by Donte' Stallworth. He also took repetitions as a punt returner. With Jabar Gaffney seizing the role of No. 3 receiver, and receiver/returner C.J. Jones making the 53-man roster, Jackson was apparently deemed expendable.

^ the Titans problem is that they're a run-first team and Vince just can't get it together.
that, with the addition of Crumpler, will limit Gage and McCareins. they coulda used a big WR like Dwayne Jarrett.

^ the Titans problem is that they're a run-first team and Vince just can't get it together.
that, with the addition of Crumpler, will limit Gage and McCareins. they coulda used a big WR like Dwayne Jarrett.
all their WRs lack size.
it's not a problem because we're a great running team so it's only logical that we run first.

Lunatic, I got the Titans defense again in my fantasy league, and in my fantasy league defenses are just as important as Rb's. I got the Titans D, Tb's d, and NE's D!!! 3 top 5 defenses last year!!! To go along with LDT, Grant, Turner, Galloway, Wayne, Lee Evans, Roddy White, Bryant Johnson, Issac Bruce, Jason Witten, LJ Smith, Bulger, Delhomme, Leinart, Matt Ryan, Flacco, Orton
that's the business! Titans D is the way 2 go 8)  the rest of the team looks good 2.

A few thoughts on that game
-Kyle Orton looks so much more comfortable then he has the last few years, running that offense and hes should have a good year. I was very impressed.
-The defense looked WAYYYY better then last year, proved last night against one of the leagues best offenses, if not the best.
- The bears showed they can still jam it down youre throat and be physical if you can have a good rb, and they jammed it down indys throat all night, did whatever they wanted..
-Matt Forte is FUCKIN LEGIT
Joseph Addai is a pussy, still gonna have a good year, but damn hes a bitch
-Again, damn i was impressed by Orton, if he plays well they win 10-11 games

He had a much better 2nd half then first, that INT at the end happened cuz he was trying to make a play. IF he doesnt play more consistent, there gonna struggle to win every week..

He's physically strong enough, but I don't think he is smart enough to be QB. He panics way too much to be effective. In the first quarter, GB blitzed, but instead of throwing it away, Taravis threw a dangerous pass to Peterson who was in the pocket with him. Luckly the ball was caught after it was batted around, but there was only a yard or two gained. Definately not worth the risk. I may not be a football coach, but I do know a thing or two about sports, and Taravis would never start on my team.

I wouldnt want him as my QB either, but he just needs to keep the TO's down cuz they have a good enuff defense and Running game to win if he does, And he did look better in the 2nd half like i said before..Lets see what happens

I know that the Seahwaks offense is missing some WR's, but Hasslebeck is still VERY GOOD and they can run the ball pretty well. And they are still healthy on defense and we moved the ball with them on ease and its not like we dominated TOP, i was very happy and impressed by JT. And our d didnt give up any big plays thats a positive

2 runs lol..nothin' MAJOR, on each run, the D all shifted to one side and it was kind of a trick; Collins made them shift to one side of the field by the look of the play and then he'd tuck it and run the opposite way with no defenders in sight lol.

^^I bet $10 on the Browns to win straight up and won $30 because of the moneyline. That was their 1st Monday Night game in forever, they were coming off a bye week, it was like it was their Super Bowl. We'll see if that sparks them for the rest of the season or if it's just a fluke.

Arizona got themselves a real nice win as well, they got screwed on a few calls and made some mistakes that let Dallas push it to OT, but they kept fighting and pulled it off.

I think Atlanta has been the most surprising team this year, I didn't expect too much from them but they play tough defense and put last year's mess behind them. It was a smart move to let D Hall leave, he is overrated, and their young corners now can ball.

The 49ers have been tough this year, they are always in the thick of the game but they haven't come close to playing a complete game (The Lions don't count as a real opponent). They need to do a better job converting in the red zone, and this is a spot where you figure Vernon Davis could really be a factor. They got screwed by that missed FG last week that was ruled good, but it shouldn't have come to that. The defense is too predictable, Nolan keeps going with the Nickel D, taking our talented LB's out of it. We need to use Lawson on more blitzes, and Michael Lewis from the safety spot. O'Sullivan missing that screen to Davis was huge, but I can't blame him. We don't have a great QB on our roster, and we need to give Gore and either Foster or Robinson more carries.

word, wtf was martz thinkin bout? throwin on 1st and 2nd down way too fuckin much. gore is they key to the whole fuckin offense and then straight up abandoning the run, when we were still up on them. i could go on and on but imma just say that the playcallin was suspect as fuck. its obvious we cant rely on osullivan to win games. the offense goes through gore and that will soften up the d so jt can look up field, lets just hope he doesnt fuck it up. the stats say the o-line isnt protectin jt but his ass is holdin the ball way to fuckin long and hes not gettin the ball out. im not even gonna start with his decision making as far as throwin the ball goes. they are playin competitive so at least they arent rollin over for anyone.
Title: Re: Sticky: The Official NFL Thread
Post by: Tay on October 15, 2008, 04:03:14 PM
Exactly right. If the Eagles had been stopping Gore, then I could have understood that reverse and screen that we lost yardage on. But they our best player had been ripping up chunks of yardage and time against them, keep going with it until they stop it. O'Sullivan does hold the ball at times, but that's better than getting picked. He has surprised me when he runs the ball, I didn't know he had wheels like that. We can upset the Giants, but we will have to play great, the Giants are focused and angry after their loss to the Browns.

If this continues, what should the 49ers do about the QB position? Do they go after a free agent or trade? Any college players look enticing?

your right he does have decent mobility. i wish he would use it more, and your right a sack is way better than a pick. i just wish he could recognize when he needs to just throw it away.

your also right about the need to get our LB's involved more. we have the talent there(willis is the truth!) its not bein used properly.

the G-Men will not take us lightly this week after the loss the clvd so we need be on our A-game and run, run, run and protect the ball and we have a chance

as far as the qb spot goes...i have no idea. unless its a big move for a quality qb, i say we just deal with what we have and make the best of it. fuck bringin in a another journey-man type. that will only take from the cap and we will be in the same situation we are in now. as far as college qb's go i cant call it cause i gotta admit i dont watch college ball whatsoever. but i am weary of the draft after the disappointment that was alex smith.

the peices are comin together we just have to wait
Title: Re: Sticky: The Official NFL Thread
Post by: Tay on October 15, 2008, 04:51:30 PM
I agree about picking up a journeyman, there's not a whole lot of options. There are situations in Miami, Philly, Cleveland and Arizona where they have a young QB on the bench that they might be willing to trade or let the veteran go, but I'm not too sure about any of those options. Picking a QB out of the draft would be tough, I'm not sure I see a guy who is ready to have instant success. Matt Ryan has been effective for the Falcons this year, but he had a lot of college experience and you could tell he was a winner if you watched him at all. This year, the top options most people talk about are Tim Tebow, Sam Bradford, Mark Sanchez, and Matt Stafford. Bradford has probably looked most like the sure thing, but it could be just because the talent around him is so good. I think they should probably look for a mid-round pick to develop over time. O'Sullivan or Shaun Hill should be decent enough to hold it over for a while if JT can hold on to the ball.

Polamalu says NFL's fines for hits more about money, not player safety

Polamalu Criticizes The NFL And Mark Schlereth Agrees

Troy Polamalu is usually soft-spoken off the field, hard-hitting on it. The recent rash of fines leveled at his Pittsburgh Steelers teammates has caused him to take a shot at the NFL, however.

The Steelers safety suggested Wednesday that the NFL is leveling fines for hits more for its own interest than that of the players.

"I think regarding the evolution of football, it's becoming more and more flag football, two-hand touch," Polamalu said. "We've really lost the essence of what real American football is about. I think it's probably all about money. They're not really concerned about safety."

The Steelers have asked the NFL to clarify why Hines Ward, one of the league's best blocking wide receivers, was fined $15,000 the past two games for unnecessary roughness despite not being penalized.

Ward was fined $10,000 following the Steelers' 26-21 win at Jacksonville on Oct. 5, a week after drawing a $5,000 fine for a play in which he stepped over Baltimore cornerback Corey Ivy on Sept. 29. Ward did not draw a penalty on either play.

Troy Polamalu
When you see guys like Dick Butkus, the Ronnie Lotts, the Jack Tatums, these guys really went after people. Now, they couldn't survive in this type of game. They wouldn't have enough money. They'd be paying fines all the time and they'd be suspended for a year after they do it two games in a row. It's kind of ridiculous.

-- Troy Polamalu

Also following the Jacksonville game, Steelers linebacker James Harrison was fined $20,000 for criticizing referee Brian Winter for calling a roughing-the-passer penalty against him. Two other Steelers also drew fines for that game, safety Ryan Clark $7,500 for unnecessary roughness -- a late hit -- and wide receiver Nate Washington $7,500 for taunting. Among the four players, the one-game fines totaled $45,000.

"It's starting to cost too much money to come to work for these guys," coach Mike Tomlin said Tuesday.

Tomlin said he planned to call the NFL office about the Ward fines, and team chairman Dan Rooney wrote a letter questioning why Ward was fined.

"We want to be a team and he [Ward] wants to be a player who plays the game the way it's supposed to be played, the way our league wants it to be played," Tomlin said. "We respect that. But we need a little clarity in that situation."

Polamalu said that football's essence is being taken away with the NFL's heavy-handed penalties, saying football "just loses so much of its essence when it becomes like a pansy game."

Polamalu said that past NFL greats wouldn't be able to play the way that made them great in today's game.

"When you see guys like Dick Butkus, the Ronnie Lotts, the Jack Tatums, these guys really went after people," Polamalu told reporters. "Now, they couldn't survive in this type of game. They wouldn't have enough money. They'd be paying fines all the time and they'd be suspended for a year after they do it two games in a row. It's kind of ridiculous."

However, Polamalu made it clear he doesn't defend players who take cheap shots.

"I didn't mean being cheap, but [those who] don't take anything from anybody," Polamalu said. "Know what I mean? Joe Greene wouldn't take anything from anybody. Joey Porter wouldn't. When people came to our field, they knew this was our home field. Nobody was going to mess with us. ... That's the type of attitude I think is really awesome."

speak on it homie...nfl's gettin soft

Barring a dramatic change of course, a source told ESPN's Michael Smith on Monday that the San Francisco 49ers plan to fire head coach Mike Nolan after the team's game against Seattle on Sunday.

Mike Nolan

Nolan

Next week is the 49ers' bye week. Nolan is expected to be replaced by assistant head coach Mike Singletary. When reached by ESPN, a 49ers spokesman said: "We don't respond to speculation. We are focused on Seattle."

Nolan, 49, is in his fourth season with the Niners, posting an 18-37 record. San Francisco is 2-5 this season and has lost four in a row. The 49ers are 23rd in both offense and defense in the league.

The 49ers have had five straight losing seasons and are 4-12, 7-9 and 5-11 in three full seasons under Nolan, who was retained after last season, which saw Scot McCloughan, their top personnel executive, formally annointed as general manager with a contract extension and a raise.

Nolan previously had the final say on all football decisions. He and McCloughan have made joint decisions on personnel issues, but McCloughan has had the final say.

"I will remain the one voice in this organization, and the face," Nolan said at the conclusion of the 2007 season. "I don't believe it will change at all. The important thing is that we will maintain the relationship."

Entering this season, Nolan had two years remaining on a five-year, $8 million deal.

Michael Smith covers the NFL for ESPN.

i dunno how i feel about this. this isnt all his fault obviously. but maybe a change is in order. Singletary is one of my favorite players of all time,i just hope he can get the job done if this rumor is true

You bout to lose some money. We would have beat them both games last year if it wasnt for a dropped pass and thats without Kerry Collins. We now actually have some sort of vertical passing game along with an even better rushing attack than last year and a better d. Combine that with the Colts sorry ass run D lately and the fact that we playing at home and this might be an ass whipping.

^yep, if brandon jones made that (easy catch) that game was ours..yep, collins is moving the ball well and not turning it over (no hate towards VY10, I love him but he turns it over a lot)...your right on the rush game being better, plus the d is better..we got this game in the bag!

my only concern is our titans like flying under the radar..better not get nervous on prime time..

Moving the ball real well. Ive never seen our passing game look this good since McNair was in his prime.

Rivers: 'We'll see what happens' when Bengals play Steelers

CINCINNATI -- Speaking out for the first time about the hit that broke his jaw, Cincinnati Bengals linebacker Keith Rivers made it clear Wednesday he's looking forward to his next game against the Pittsburgh Steelers and Hines Ward.

AFC North

ESPN.com's James Walker writes about all things AFC North in his division blog.

• Blog network: NFL Nation

Ward leveled the rookie with a straight-up block on the fourth play of Pittsburgh's 38-10 victory on Oct. 19, leaving Rivers with a broken jaw. Ward wasn't penalized or fined for the block, which came from Rivers' side as he was chasing a ball carrier.

The first-round draft pick from Southern California has his jaw wired shut. He was in the locker room Wednesday and spoke with reporters about the block.

"I mean, I would have done it," he said. "Honestly, whatever. It is what it is. You know, you reap what you sow. That's what happens. What goes around, comes around. We'll see what happens."

If the injury wasn't so severe, Rivers said he would have done everything possible to be back on the field for the rematch in Pittsburgh on Nov. 20.

"If I was able to -- if I didn't go on [injured reserve] -- I'd do everything in my will," he said. "Shoot some cortisone in my face and I'll go. Whatever."

Reminded that the AFC North teams play twice a year, so he'll have plenty of chances to face Ward again, Rivers responded, "It's all good."

The Steelers and Bengals have a recent history of season-ending hits that left some enmity. Quarterback Carson Palmer -- another first-round pick from USC -- got his left knee torn up on a low hit by Kimo von Oelhoffen during a 2005 playoff loss to the Steelers. During his rehabilitation, Palmer said he hated the Steelers but later softened his remarks.

Rivers was the Bengals' second-leading tackler when he got hurt. Initially, he thought the injury was nothing more than a broken tooth.

"I didn't know I broke my jaw until I got the X-rays and they said it was broken in two places," Rivers said.

Rivers said that Ward hasn't called or sent him a text message. The wide receiver initially celebrated the hit on the field but then showed concern when he realized Rivers was hurt. He gave the linebacker a pat on the back as he walked off the field.

Ward sent a text to Bengals receiver Chad Ocho Cinco after the game, asking him to pass along an apology.

"Hines texted me that night when they got back to Pittsburgh to deliver the message to Keith about him being sorry about the hit," Ocho Cinco said Wednesday. "Again, he was just playing football. He didn't mean to be cheap at all. That's the way Hines has always played the game. He just wanted to send his apology and he was sorry."

Rivers wore a USC stocking cap, a long-sleeve T-shirt and black Bengals shorts on Wednesday. Wires span the top and bottom rows of his teeth, which are clamped tight. He makes an effort to be understood even though he can't move his mouth.

Asked if it hurts to talk, he said, "Sometimes. There are times I don't feel like talking anymore."

Rivers will have the jaw wired for seven more weeks. It will be a couple months beyond that before he can resume a full diet. For now, he's limited to nutrition drinks, shakes and soup. He has already lost 12 pounds.

It's the first time that Rivers has suffered a season-ending injury. A pulled hamstring during his sophomore season at USC was his worst injury to this point.

"I'm just mad," he said. "I've lost a season. Your career is short, and I've already lost one year. It's really depressing and disappointing."

fuckin pussy...i swear players are bitches these days.

I like the Packers in this one. they have the mental edge here.
how much does this contest mean to the Titans? they just won a statement battle on national TV and are up two games on everyone in the AFC.
the Packers r in a close, three-way fight for the NFC North.
not to mention, the Titans had a short week to prepare while the Packers r coming off a bye.

Mike McCarthy is 2-0 after a bye as well. ;)

I mean cmon, if we keep picking against the Titans, we eventually have to get it right. u can't win em all. lol

Well..He's the weaker of the two in the backfield. Asomugha has been thrown only 10 TIMES!!!!!!!  :o :o :o :o :o :o So its not D Halls fault if the league wants to ignore one whole side of the field vs the raiders and attack him everydown

yea man, especially with Al Harris unhealthy and aging...

Packers are dangerous when healthy and would be even more sick if they had another corner besides Woodson.

too bad Ryan Grant's been unhealthy. he lacks that explosiveness he had last year.

so far they've had 3 very unlucky losses to Tampa, Atlanta, and Tennessee.

Rodgers has been great for you guys though, pretty much.

the Arizona Cardinals aren't that good; Warner is having an MVP type of year because of the emergence of Fitzgerald, Boldin, and Breaston.

- running game is nonexistent.
- barely beat teams they're supposed to (49ers, Seahawks).
- can't beat playoff-bound teams (Giants, Redskins, Jets, Panthers).
- don't have one impressive victory yet, besides the Dallas game.

Wow...Packers D knows all about big plays.

Packers controlled the game..and still lost.

Im still in shock  :'(

Packers better pick up a DE, DL, OLB's in the off season. People can say all they want about if Favre was on the Packers..theyd be in the PLayoffs...but we would still lose in the playoffs to teams like the Giants easily

The uncalled late hit on Frerotte sealed the deal. It should be a tie game, but instead it's 7-3 and Taravis might be playing the next series. I feel bad for my friend who bought season tickets.

until we beat you in the playoffs? what have you accomplished lately (recent seasons) in the playoffs to make it sound like your some team to beat come post-season time? :D

as for our losses, we werent as efficient with the run game at that time. i mean now that we know that the best defense against the run cant stop it, i feel a HELLA lot more confident. the Bronco's always put up big points, we just couldnt match them last week... :-\

now you take a look at the Titans who doesn't score all that much, just find a way...or rather, FOUND a way to win the first 10 games of the season ( :P), to win the close games; we can beat a team like that...which is why i feel confident against you.

BOTTOM LINE: the Steelers & Colts are my only fears in the AFC! :)

chamillitary: we ain't done shit in the prior years because we ain't had the same team; the players are much improved (finnegan & griffin especially). plus add chris johnson. the efficiency of kerry collins. this team is the shit. and don't discredit the 11-1 record like it ain't shit. u scared of the colts, we wiped the floor with them.

titans will advance further than the jets in the playoffs, thats for sure.

yeah but you stopped there offense & what week did you play them? was Addiah even playing at that point?

honestly what wins do you Titans fans find incredible; look at this schedule...

week 1- a disappointing Jacksonville
week 2- Cincinnati (CMON NOW)
week 3- Houston (nothing special)
week 4- Minnisota (good win; still no powerhouse team, concidering there one dimensional run & your best rush defense...)
week 5- Baltimore (good win)
week 6- BYE
week 7- KC (LOL)
week 8- Indy (if Addiah was playing; ill give you a great win)
week 9- Green Bay (good win, even if there much weaker than last year)
week 10- Bears (a .500 Bears team, isnt a good team)
week 11- a disappointing Jacksonville squad
week 12- we washed yall up! 8)
week 13- the winless Lions (LOL)

now you got the Browns, Houston :puke:

but then your last two games will really show where you guys stand vs. Pitt & Indy.

back to your schedule...youve only played 4 teams over .500 & lost to one of them; not to mention the other two aren't top of the league anyway.

11-1 is a great accomplishment; but with a schedule like that, its almost a given...

Giants, Pitt, Indy, 'Boys...all great teams that are gunna give you a run for your money; not to mention Jets gave ya ur first loss & you guys haven't even seen the Pats or Broncos yet...

take what you want from this, but this is just my opinon on the Titans season so far; a great accomplishment, but a weak schedule...

see ya in the playoffs! 8) ;D ;)

What a crazy season it has been, and with the 4 teams left in the playoffs, expect more madness. The only team left that seemed to have much preseason hype was the Eagles, and they were left for dead after losing to the Ravens. 3 of the 4 teams have great defenses, and Arizona's has the playmakers on D, and 3 teams have good QB's who have been to the Super Bowl, and Flacco has been steady in the playoffs and not made the mistakes *cough* Jake Delhomme *cough*..To get a little discussion going, what teams surprised or disappointed you this year?

Atlanta was obviously a great surprise, and Tennessee's D getting better and moving through a QB controversy impressed me, they had a great season, I figured they were a fringe playoff team. The disappointment for me was Jacksonville, I picked for them to play Philadelphia in the SB, and they bombed quickly.

I have to bring up the 49ers because that's my squad. Another solid finish to give them hope, they NEED to let Hill start the season as QB. Draft a future in an early to mid round, but let him sit. As these playoff teams have shown, it's the defense that gets it done, and we have a solid foundation. A playmaking safety and OLB/DE that can get more pressure on the QB is what I'm hoping for. Some help on the O-Line wouldn't be bad either.
