Big Sean, i dont see what the hype is for..
I even listend to pretty much all his shit.. and he aint as deep as people give him credit for.
-
A Tribe Called Quest - puts me to sleep. always thought were way overrated
Atmosphere - just a bunch of rambling about bad girlfriends and being depressed
-
A Tribe Called Quest - only to a degree, I fuck with their first 2 albums but they don't get nearly as much play from me as other hip-hop classics
Beastie Boys - I never thought License To Ill was that great but to each his own
Big Sean - some people I know really rock with him but I just don't get it, even when they tell me "oh when he was coming up"
Mos Def - only enjoyed him in BlackStar, tried maybe 2 of his solos and they put me to sleep
Talib Kweli - the album he had with Hi-Tek was dope but nothing else seemed to grab me (aside from BlackStar of course)
Vic Mensa - he's still new but I don't get the hype with him either, super average rapper
more to come
-
listenin rap and hiphop still 95. I aint trolling with this list:
2Pac
Notorius BIG
Nas
Lil wayne (and the whole cash money click)
I know these are THE RAP Stars, icons, legends etc, but neva feel their albums. Dunno why.
-
2pac, method man, big sean, ludacris,e 40, wayne
-
I've never been big into Jay-Z and Nas, even though I have a couple of albums from both. I don't have the urge to discover most of their back catalogue that I do with other rappers. The same can be said with Outkast and most of the individual members of the Wu-Tang Clan.
I never bothered checking out Lil Wayne's stuff when he was getting popular either.
-
LL Cool J - I like a handful of songs with him but mostly its all just proving hes got sex appeal and can rap.
Canibus - Everyone gets on my case for this one but to me its all just random nonsense spitting and never has subject matter appealing enough unless hes dissing another rapper. Every album of his I tried, I got bored to death.

You ever listen to 2014 Forest Hill Drive? I never really saw anything special about the guy but was very impressed by that album.
-
Maybe i'm sleeping but I haven't peeped anything by J.Cole since Friday Night Lights. He comes off too confident and narcissistic now. I thought he was dope when he first popped up.
As for Wale, him signing to MMG was a terrible move for him artistically. I used to have most of his shit in rotation before that period.

Besides the obvious choices like Drake, Big Sean, Tyga, etc the one that comes to mind for me the most is Dj Quik. Legendary producer but I've never really liked listening to him rap.
-
i aint mention these popstars, like drake, nicki minaj etc...
oh, i forget bout the 1st roster of shady records.

yeah my brothers the same way with DJ Quik. I absolutely cannot understand it but I say "to each his own".
-
Jay Z for me......I havent listened to any of his albums......just the various singles on the radio.
-
A bunch of east coast rappers. I could tell they had talent and I could tell they made good music, but it just wasn't meant for me.
-
There are some I can't remember now but here are some who I could never get into.
Kokane
Knoc-turnal
Wu Tang Clan as a group-I liked gravel pit, the rapper method man's songs.
Drake
Flo-ryda at 1st it was never got into him but now he's considered a great rapper so he's overrated.
Lil' Boosie
Soulja Fag

Tyga
Most of these new rappers I never heard of 2day.
-
Slum Village (J. Dilla's production is obviously dope though)

Master P (No Limit in general)
Drake ( anything new really)

I thought that might have been an album title and not a group lol I meant TOB as in Temples Of Boom

naah.......surprised you never heard of psycho realm

yeah chances are if Cypress Hill isn't your thing, you're not going to like Psycho Realm too much...
'Temples Of Boom' is one of my all time faves. Muggs was on another level with the production. I can see why it's not for everyone though.

Nice thread..
...And I totally agree with you about Busta Rhymes. And that is saying a lot, because I wasn't even able to get into his Dre produced Aftermath album—and this is coming from a guy who considers Aftermath Presents a personal classic, and even bumped the shit out of the Firm album. Not only that, but I actually like Busta Rhymes as a person. I like listening to his interviews, and I respect as one of the purveyors of hip-hop culture at large. But from the moment this dude came out with "Woo-ha" I just wasn't feeling it. Like you said, too goofy.
Other rappers who are generally respected that I never could get into...
Jay-Z - (of course, I've made enough threads about him so I will leave it alone here)
Bay Area Rappers - their sound just comes off cheap to me. Their sound and their lyrics lack a sort of refinement and sophistication.
Tribe Called Quest - Like someone else said never could get into them. Even in my really conscious Muslim days I couldn't get into these guys. They were just too regular for me.
Common - This guys name always comes up amongst hip-hop purists and a lot of people I respect. I've tried, but never could get into this dude. "The Light" is one of my favorites and I also got into that song that lead to the beef with Westside Connection (the one where he personifies hip-hop as a female) but other than that never could get into him
Black Thought/Roots - I liked "The Seed 2.0" and I liked "Things Fall Apart" with Erykah Badu, but that was it. I remember when they first broke through with "What they Do"—it was a clever video but a boring ass song.
DMX - respect dude a lot and he's a real character... I think "Slippin" was about the only joint I ever really felt of his.
Slaughterhouse - All that talent and the only song of theirs I've liked is "Hammerdance".
